Note To Readers: Tell Us What You're Seeing...

A quick note to readers: With the general election beginning, we're hoping that you guys will help us with our coverage by tipping us off to what's going on in the presidential race -- and in the Congressional races -- in your states.

We want to know what you are seeing on the ground from the state operations of both presidential campaigns -- Republican and Democratic. Mailers, ads, surrogate action, weird or revealing coverage in the local papers or on the local TV channels, materials being spread by independent groups -- we want to hear about it all.

If you see anything you think is interesting, shoot us an email at talk@talkingpointsmemo.com.

You can help us make the site more useful, more informative, more fun -- in short, better. And thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for all the great work Greg.

Hey, if you want a laugh you have to check out McCain's latest comment.

"We should be able to deliver bottled hot water to dehydrated babies."

One of the commenters said the following: why go to all that trouble? just use freeze dried babies, and rehydrate when there is rain! geez...stupid republicans

This election is going to be sooooo much fun!

Warning for those who don't like it: Meta follows on that.

You know, I have always been puzzled why you guys like working that way. So much for the interactive potential of the net, a group of minds working on something, just throw that aside. You take it private, you totally miss the surprising connections that someone out there could make from a comment that you might think has nothing to do with the story. Think about getting more public, don't keep all the info. bottled up. Email is designed for privacy, not for group projects. Not to mention with people responding to threads on topic you have all the info. in one area, can concentrate on what info. comes in on one topic, lo0oking for connections, not bouncing from topic to topic in email tips.

(BTW, this also happens to be why I don't think too highly of your management's choice of software. If you wanted to assist collaborative work on something, you would have the ability to follow a story over time, with people contributing over time and everyone involved able to get notice when a thread is added to, rather than the churn of "breaking" and everything scrolling away to oblivion within hours.)

Thanks to you guys for your interest. Good move on your part. I'll keep you posted on Minnesota!

I'm seeing way too many stories about Hillary Clinton, the failed presidential candidate. I'm not seeing any stories about the historic nature of Obama's nomination.

I'll keep y'all posted from Alabamastad!

Here in Illinois, there are rumors that a native son will make a strong bid for the Presidency. He may even carry the state.

I'll do it, but only if you guys give me a cool code name like Deep Throat or Turdblossom.

Ok, maybe not Turdblossom, but you know what I mean...

Greg,

Sure I'll keep an eye on other races.

I haven't played much attention or displayed much interest in politics before. Obama is the reason for my heightened engagement in politics. I'm so deep into now, I'm beginning to pay attention to few other races.

A word on Lautenberg- Rob Andrews race. Lautenberg has one leg in his grave, and he is a political coward and Rob Andrews has no political philosphy to speak off- NJ primary race was shamefully old school. Most NJ politics is scum anyways. As a New Yorker, by the way, I wish Bloomberg could run again. He is refreshingly no-nonsense get it done guy.

I see tpm still posting polls Obama vs. Clinton.

Stop it!

Second.

Rasmussen and Gallup have both stopped polling the Democratic race, so there will be no new numbers anyway.

I dunno if I'll see much, being in small-town VT, but I'll definitely let you know. Maybe when I get back to school in NY in September I'll be able to do some real observing.

Greg, I live in John Boehner's district, and I occasionally receive mailings from his campaign. If I wanted to send scans of the documents, is there a file attachment size limit I should be aware of? I would be glad to pass on anything ol' Crocodile Tears sends me.

dito that

I'll do the same from NC..We have a Senate and Gov race here that will be heating here soon enough!

Here in Oregon, Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, Jeff Merkley (who Senaotr Ron Wyden endorsed this past Sunday) has a new online/blog director, longtime Kossack Sarah Lane.

Smith is doing everything he can to recast himself as anything but a Republican, (hiding any reference to such on his website, putting "Democrats for Smith" front and center, pushing how he is an independent, green friendly, etc. etc.

He is rejecting the GOP brand as much as he can without leaving the party officially in order to have a chance at re-election. He is under 50% approval, and is in a statistical tie with Speaker Jeff Merkley (and that was before he even won the nomination), who is a rock-solid progressive how lead the charge to re-take the statehouse in 2006 (which he accomplished) and lead the most productive session in the past 3 decades.

New Hampshire is in the "swing state" column (we're the only red state in all of New England -sigh), so we'll be working hard here to get Obama to take the state. We also have Jean Shaheen running for senate. Wll pay attention for you.

Here in Austin, Texas there is a pub crawl

http://origin.ih.constantcontact.com/fs058/1101264325393/img/11.jpg?a=1102124236324

The Obama Camp will be parked at Club DeVille. The Clinton folks will be at Bull McCabes.

There's ridiculous drink specials and at the end of the night everyone will fight and then, make out. ...We're Democrats!

Great call on that PubCrawl in Austin, I was just going to post that. On another note Rick Noriega is running against Sen John Cornyn who had this to say about his opponent via the Houston Chronicle, "On another election front, Republican Sen. John Cornyn criticized his Democratic challenger, state Rep. Rick Noriega, for supporting a climate change bill sponsored by U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif. In a news release, Cornyn called the bill radical legislation that would cost $6.7 trillion."
The absolutely funny thing is that this came out while his democratic opponent is in Afghanistan serving our nation in the Armed Forces. Rick is a good guy, who has seen the foreign diplomatic trouble we face first hand, it is time that Texans decide for themsleves who ultamately lives up to their rhetoric and words. John Cornyn like John McCain has been a big supporter of most of the failed policies of GWB making.

I am no fan of any Texas Senator.

I remember when W was first floated as a potential gov, and I thought, damn it, Texas will elect him. Now that they are floating Hutchison, and I'm afraid we'll elect her gov too.

I agree completely. My mother has been and educator for over 30 years and every time we talk about the stae of our education system she emphasizes many of tht troubling apsects of NLCB. She is an independent and gave GWB the benefit of the doubt when he was GOV but shortly lost her patience with the emphasis on standardized testing and expanding the influence and power of the administrators at the price of paying more for more qualified teachers and a curriculum which is dynamic and representative of our diverse ethnic population. Thank goodness the TX BOE did not use the alterantive document sponsored by Donna Garner which would have made our education system more of a right-wing mouthpeice then it already is. I surely hope we se Hutchinson for what she is, even a Republican or an Independent would be hard pressed to find that much in her background which supports her having good judgement in leadership. But maybe that could be a good thing?

I'd hardly call it a "tip", but here in N. Idaho there's a good chance that Obama could pick up a bunch of Ron Paul supporters .... and then still lose the state in a landslide :)

Rep. Bill Sali is the most "likely" pick-off - his unfavorables are through the roof (32% favorable) and he only won his seat by 5%. The dems up here couldn't "get out the vote" if the vote was in a barn on fire with the doors open ... so don't hold your breath ... but there is a *hope*. Dems do have the cash advantage.

I'll keep you posted on the race for Vito Fossella's seat in the Isle of Staten. I presume you know all about Powers Jr.'s penchant for flinging boogers on the Staten Island Ferry. I kid you not - he does it every morning. And his unique mullet - business in the front, matted in th back. I will deliver footage in action from my cell phone. This I pledge to you.
