Networks Call Montana For Obama, South Dakota For Hillary

Hillary won South Dakota, and Obama won Montana, the networks project.

Hillary won her state by 56%-44% with 61% reporting. Montana's returns are just starting to come in.

Not that it matters; Obama has clinched the delegate count he needs to win the Democratic nomination, in case you missed it.

I dont think i am going to work tomorrow.

Hangover day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm calling in. I got a whole bottle of champagne left.

And I'm gonna punish it!

THIS

IS

EXCELLENT

EXCELLENT

NEWS!!

FOR!!!

HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!

JOHNNY MCSAME!!!!

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh god is this GREAT or what?????????

I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY!!!!!!!!

YES

WE

CAN!!!!!!!!!!

Chris Matthews must be crapping his pants

You know, my eyes are actually just a touch watery from that speech. I think it's allergies. Yeah. Allergies.

NEWS

BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Chris Matthews sounds as if he was crying

Amazing speech. What a contrast from the HRC and McCain. And what a moment for our country.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are still killing Hillary on CNN for her speech, lol

Just donated my $2300 for the general.

McCain is toast.

I think its safe to say that the McCain speech tonight backfire

user-pic

Wow, he is amazing. Unbelievable.

Perception is reality.

If she messes with the perception of his legitimacy as a nominee ...

*sigh*

She's already doing that with her popular vote crap, as well as knocking Obama's commitment to healthcare reform. OK, her speech didn't have to be a concession speech, but at the VERY LEAST she could have avoided knocking Obama again.

I don't think the party is going to tolerate much more of her drama or threats. She's overplayed her hand. What the hell's wrong with her? She is certainly revealing a tin ear...

I have a feeling she's going to be spanked...hard...if she doesn't straighten up and begin working to repair the rifts she has worked to deepen between the various blocs of Democratic voters during her campaign. I think the party leadership is chomping at the bit and ready to turn full attention to campaigning for the general election. I don't think they're going to indulge her much longer.

She's trying to suck all the oxygen out of the room. Fortunately, Obama is an exciting and charismatic politician, so she wasn't able to dampen Obama's big night.

I think she still doesn't understand what a formidable competitor he is. Amazing.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a juxtaposition tonight!

Just incredible!

Narcissism vs. humility.

Humility wins in a KNOCKOUT!

17,000 inside, another 15,000 outside, at the Excel Center in St. Paul tonight. And McCain drew what, 200?

His were bussed in from waaaay out of town. They thought they were going to the state fair. Poor things.

Hey!

Where's the Cotton Candy?

Reggie "Teabag" Love sighting.

This is real class "... I am a better candidate for having had the honor to compete with Hillary Rodham Clinton."
If Hillary had one third the class Obama has she may be even considered to the VP slot.

....wow I was mesmerised for the duration of Obama's speech. Nice reaction by the crowd too with their hearty round of applause for Clinton. Beyond classy it even had me clapping at my keyboard. I am proud to support the Democratic Party tonight........

I am so very proud of America for getting us here.

Me, too.

The People are taking back their govt. on the broken backs of both political parties.

Now come the days of Boss Obama!

The important thing to remember is GOVERNment.

It's not CANDIDATEment.

It's not a "permanent campaign."

Obama will govern. That's what America sorely misses.

This is a day that I will never forget. And am I'm GLAD that Hillary gave the speech she gave. It made his speech all the more powerful.

If it's not clear, I'm enjoying a celebratory drink (or two)!

"The hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him too."

Barack Obama, 2004

Good god I'm actually crying! This is such a wonderful night for our country. FINALLY!

.....was he using a teleprompter tonight? Even so his head movement was enough to make me actually wonder if the whole thing was done extemporaneously.

Yeah, there was a teleprompter. He's just better than McCain at reading it.

lol. yeah, that's all it was.

I am so proud of our country right now!

I think Hillary wants a do over

I think she'd lose even worse on a second go round, judging by most polls lately.

That was such a study in contrasts between Obama and McCain. "that's not change you can believe in." Hackneyed. Dull. Repetitive. Tired. Easy.

We're going to win. Halfway there.

I don't even have much to say! It's it okay that I just post nothing, since I can only yell in my apartment so much.

YEAH!

I'm throwing down caps tonight!!

user-pic

Congratulation everyone!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

As of 10:45 pm EST, Obama and McCain were tied for the likelihood of winning their respective party's nomination at 94.7 on intrade. Thought that was neat.

user-pic

I posted this down-thread, but I'll post it again as a balm to Obama supporters who are upset with Hillary's speech (which includes me!!):

OK, after reading Al Giordano's blog about Hillary's speech I feel better - here's the link:

http://ruralvotes.com/thefield/?p=1312

By the way, he says that 26.5 more superdelegates just endorsed him in the last 5 minutes - so take that, Hillary - I guess people are truly letting you know what you should do LOL!!

Singing Lady of Size....table for One....

Thanks for the link.

!!

...OOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Yes! Congratulations to Obama, to us, and to America!

Yea!!!!
South Dakota my old stompin' grounds! What a deal what a deal!

Class. Grace. Humility. Presidential.

Congratulations, Mr. President-elect.

Yes, congratulations everyone! And congratulations to the Democrats (and many independents) for having the "courage to change" and make this historic election in so many ways.

Wow. When will this sink in? Maybe January 20th 2009.

Hey Greg!

WHERE WAS OBAMA'S THREAD?!!

Amazing.

OK, I'll give Greg a possible out on this and speculate he was en route from the Hillary gig he was at. Maybe? Maybe not? {shrugs}

As I said in another thread, Obama released a transcript and that got a thread earlier. Hillary's speech for 3 threads because she pre-released no transcript and Greg was giving us the play-by-play.

OK. OK. I hear ya both.

EXCELLENT NEWS FOR GREG!

;-)

Oh well. I guess it will be Obama's thread for the NEXT FOUR YEARS!!!

The great thing about Obama is he always recognizes the historic nature of the moment and never fails to make sure we feel it.

Jeffery Tubin, a pundit on CNN, just called Hillary a "derange narcissist" on live TV.

Well, after all of these months, you just run out of diplomatic ways to call this crap. It is what it is.

Hey guys, in more good news...I shit you not, MITT ROMNEY WON MONTANA.

AMAZING.

Romney...sounds familiar.

Didn't he used to be on LA Law?

user-pic

Ummm ... That was Feb. 5th. Montana was much earlier for the R's. :-)

user-pic

Actually ... YOU'RE RIGHT! They had a caucus tonight - their primary was in Feb.

user-pic

Actually - I need to stop drinking ... I was right the first time. :-)

He won back in February.

How small did both Hillary and McCain look in comparison to Obama tonight? Getting to see all three speeches more or less back to back was striking.

Gramps is so screwed.

Jeffery Toobin on CNN, just used the phrase "deranged narcissism" to define the Clintons.

And they're JUST figuring this out?

They're just now finding the stones to defy the Clintons openly.

user-pic

Did they cut over to Bill Clinton to show his head exploding?

The Clintons will say they're victims of the new "vast left-wing conspiracy."

Nauseating.

The people were willin'
Now the champagne is chillin'
And hist'ry's about to be made.
In a matter of time
We'll have made that long climb
From the nightmare of Palm Beach and Dade.

An exciting young man
Came to say, "Yes, we can!"
And the people responded en masse.
And tonight's celebration
Will assure this great nation
That the woes of Bush-Cheney shall pass.

So call all your friends
Call your long and lost kin
And, for sure, call your Daddy and Mama!
Tell 'em all, far and wide,
and, friend, say it with pride,
"The time is RIGHT NOW for Obama!"

Well, Lawdy, Aubie. Is it the Champagne that's turning you into a poet? That's just awesome!

Well, I've always dabbled in poetry.

This was a rush job to celebrate the night, but I thought it worked well.

:)

Blog them, my friend. We don't want to lose these gems in a thread.

I wont be surprised if Hillary's folks take to the air tomorrow to back track her speech some what. The pundits on all 3 networks are tearing her up about her speech. It didnt go over well.

Of COURSE they're shocked, shocked! They've been in the bag for MONTHS. Please. She's a shining star, still knocking socks off, whether they'll admit it or not. She can do whatever the hell she wants. Obama's supporters (YOU) have done far, far more to sabotage this campaign than she or Bill or Chelsea could ever imagine doing.

You're absolutely right: By casting our votes for Obama. That's democracy.

Carl Bernstein said on CNN, that Hillary was planning on being evn more combative tonight, but the low turn out in PR, prevented her from claiming that she had a lead of hundreds of thousands in the popular vote.

She truly is deranged.

Nope, she never back tracks on anything she says - not no way, not no how. She will defend and rationalize, 'til her face turns as blue as her pantsuit.

Sen. Tester just endorsed Obama on MSNBC.

He gave a hat tip to Schweitzer when asked by Matthews if there are any good Western politicians for veep, too.

I love Tester! He looks like my dad!

I think I know your dad!

Well, he passed in 1997. It may have been 1998. Or even 1999. Not sure. One of those three years.

So you knew him better than I did.

user-pic

Me too - he's a really good guy. He's an organic farmer, so I love him right out of the gate. And he seems like a real straight shooter (notice the damning with faint praise of Hillary that he did tonite - "well, some people love her and some people don't" - that was an awesome statement!! ;)

Yeah, he was very frank about it. I used to be puzzled how Montana ended up with two Democratic senators and a Democratic governor but what I've learned about Tester and Schweitzer, I understand. They're very interesting, worldly people.

That pretty much sums up how she is regarded throughout the Mountain West. There are some who love her and many, many more who don't. No gray area.

TROLL ALERT!

Oh, it's just me.

A self-announcing troll.

Must be a new model.

Well, SOME of you take a while to understand you're getting your EARS boxed. Perhaps you're among them?

Amazing night, a huge step in the right direction for this country. It feels GOOOOOOOOOOOD. ALL CAPS GOOD!

THIS IS OUR TIME. OUR MOMENT.

Beautiful.

user-pic

John King, high as a kite with his magic wall map.

I thought John King and Dana Bash were on their honeymoon.

That's not John King, but I can't recall the Dude's name (Bubbly, ya know).

(Damn! I watch toooooo much CNN.)

user-pic

No, it was John King

(Damn! I don't watch enough CNN?!?!?!)

He and Dana have been on their honeymoon, but maybe they got back.

Maybe that's why John was high as a kite!

I envision unspeakable things with that magic device. I want 3. No, four.

user-pic

Get an iPhone. (grin)

Waitin' for 3G.

user-pic

Me too - he's a really good guy. He's an organic farmer, so I love him right out of the gate. And he seems like a real straight shooter (notice the damning with faint praise of Hillary that he did tonite - "well, some people love her and some people don't" - that was an awesome statement!! ;)

user-pic

Ugh - this was meant for Marioth upthread. Stupid comments problems!!

(blush!)

I somehow knew you meant me, don't ask me why...

Did I just hear David Gergen right? Lanny Davis has started a HRC for VP petition?!?

Fuck me and feed me fishsticks!

Fuck me and feed me fishsticks!

Spit up on m'self I did...never heard THAT one before...

Lannie Davis is a complete wanker. What we have here is a chicken with it's damn fool head cut off running amok.

Not responsible for cleaning bills, Dude!

But glad you enjoyed the expression.

My ex-wife was not a good cook! ;)

The explanation is even better than the quip!

I am so stealing that line!

TPM Election has failed, just as Hillary failed. To neglect to put up a Barack Obama Speech thread and yet you put up 3 for Hillary.

Sargent, you are a disappointment to bloggers.

Happens every night about this time. After his warm milk, TMP totters off to bed...

Jamaal Simmons (again, I watch too much CNN) says the Obama people are pissed and VP is not likely.

Good, they should be pissed.

Exactly. Push-back required by Obama camp to counter the HRC camp's attempts to perceptually increase her leverage onto the ticket.

It was completely poor form.

Yup, her speech backfired royally. She had a 2% chance of getting that VP spot and with that speech her 2% chance just went down the toilet.

She barely inspires a trip to the loo.

Sargent couldn't help it, he was in the bunker with the Clintoids. I read that her rally was in a small cinderblock gym two stories below ground with no cell or wifi coverage and no tv screens. They didn't want the crowd to know when Obama went over 2118!

Folks, the overarching message that I'm hearing from the talking heads tonight is that this is the end of The Clinton Era.

And that it wasn't pretty.

She embarassed herself. Particularly in comparison to Obama.

Three ... hun ... dred ... six ... ty ... five ... de .. grees!

Burnin' down the house!

user-pic

O goody - her obsessive and clingy bitterness clinched the no Veep deal.

Hooray!

It's been a great day and thanks for sharing it - everyone. And thanks to Greg for an excellent day of posting.

Night.

Yes we did! Barack Hussein Obama is next president of the United States.

:)

Night Tena! Best to Mr. Tena!

I dont know what she did to those pundits on CNN, but they are just hammering her. MSNBC is being more polite, but the fact is, you cant force the nominee to pick you as his VP period.

If Hillary can't bully, force, and bludgeon her way through, then she doesn't know any other way.

She still can make some big money with her new T Shirt!

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/3484/hctshirtskw8.jpg

People don't like it when someone outstays there welcome. Like it or not, it's why Gore was always screwed, post-Florida. He appeared to be the loser, and that was enough.

Hillary doesn't just appear, she is. Every day she hangs on and kicks up dust is a bad one. She's gonna find that people will weary of that really quick now.

user-pic

It seems HRC bought into the sell from the MSM pundits at the gate when they slathered her with shoe in syrup. How fickle her court is.

" They said that this day would NEVER Come...."

How those words in Obama's first victory speech in Iowa ring now and how they convinced me back then that a new era in American politics had come...

AMEN

That day has come!

Once again Clinton outperforms and Obama underperforms.

Obama bought the nomination and had Clinton lynched by the Rules Committee.

Obama is pathetic, weak and arrogant.

A vote for Obama is a vote for bought-and-paid-for mediocrity.

I urge all Clinton supporters to continue their support and agree to sit out the election should Obama actually be the nominee.

Democratic Conscientious Objectors unite!

Hillary Supporters: Beware of Republican trolls trying to divide the Democratic Party. The Repubs have been flooding comment boards with fake comments to make it seem as if there's a huge rift in the Democratic Party. Truth is, only 1 or 2 percent of Democrats are of the disgruntled lot that were at the RBC meeting. The Democrats need you to fight this kind of politics as usual. Together we will take the gov't back from the Republicans

Fogu2

Looks like a fake.

Creating FOG

Ah, well....
