Lieberman Suggests There Will Be Terrorist Attack In 2009
Uh oh. Looks like Joe Lieberman is experimenting with new and creative ways of amplifying the GOP message that if we elect Barack Obama president, we'll all die.
On CBS yesterday, Lieberman strongly suggested that we would be hit by a terror attack in 2009 -- and that this should make us pull the lever for McCain...
As a special bonus for all you Lieberman fans, also note that Lieberman cited Hillary's attack on Obama's commander in chief cred during the primaries.
Now, there' s nothing wrong with debating the question of who would make a better president in the event of a terrorist attack. The problem is that when Lieberman does this sort of stuff, it allows the big news orgs to report it the way CNN has here...

"Democrat predicts new terror attack," CNN claims, thereby helping Lieberman get away with the ruse of giving phony bipartisan legitimacy to a thoroughly partisan GOP attack.

As everyone knows, Holy Joe, backed by the blessings of the Republican machine, bested Mr. Lamont.
However, he is still a registered DEM in his now hometown of Stamford CT. He did reside in New Haven, and several DEM's went to the Registrar of Voters to try and get his party affiliation voided. No such luck. (see below, and seach for more) IMO, his support of the R's should be grounds for his expulsion.
I don't believe that same kind of action followed him to Stamford, but it does give Joe at least the technically correct thread to claim his Democratic status.

This is exactly the problem with Joe Lieberman. Shoddy journalism creates the image that some Democrat thinks McCain is much better than Obama.

Joe Liebermann is fully approved and unadultrated scum bag. Thanks Greg, for posting the CNN page shot. Fox, though unexcited, are forced to fall in line and carry the water for McCain. But CNN, and ABC are leading the list of MSM hacks who are pumped and excited to put McCain in the White House. Notice a twinkle in the eyes of Blitzer or Gibson when they talk McCain.
CNN, ABC working hard to keep their profits, working hard for four more years of McBush.

Though redundant, I have to add, Joe Liebermann is a traitor to his party, traitor to his constituents and because of unreasonable and blind sighted preference for Israel, he's a traitor to his own country.

I agree with you that Lieberman is a traitor on every level, as well as an unprincipled scumbag who seems to be trying to outdo Karl Rove in bottom-feeding fearmongering.
However, I do want to take issue with this notion of Lieberman being more loyal to Israel than the U.S. (an argument more than a few posters have made). Lieberman's "loyalties," such as they are, are with the Likud Party, not the State of Israel. To conflate the two is no different than what the Republicans have tried to do here -- to conflate loyalty to party with loyalty to country. In both cases -- Likud in Israel, GOP in USA -- I believe that their agendas are harming the interests, well-being and, yes, the security, of their respective countries.

I don't understand why they don't just write "Lieberman." Are people going to confuse him with Ralph Lieberman the Auto Parts King? Even if he is a douche, he's a Senator and a pretty well-known one, at that.

Well known for being a douche. That's Joe Lieberman, all right.
Of course, I prefer Kos's estimation of the senator from CT - "that asshole Joe Lieberman." He even got the DLC to applaud that one.

why is CNN still refering to lieberman as a democrat? and its not the first time they've done it either.
Joe Lieberman is an INDEPENDENT.
CNN covered the primary race in 06! They should KNOW the Lieberman is not a democrat and yet they make a conscious decision to identify him as such.
I think I need to write CNN a letter blasting them for their lazy, if not outright dishonest, "journalism".

On another aspect, I'm not among those who think Obama ran a near-perfect campaign in the primary. They didn't always took control or close the deal with the Hillary and when in lead opted to remain reactive.
And I notice and frankly I'm dissappointed at Obama camps early game plan in the GE campaign. They haven't been proactive at all. McBush is the one in control of the narrative, Energy policy, Security, etc.
While McCain thankfully finds ways to fall flat on his face, Obama campaign better take control of the narrative.

Joe seems to know a little too much about how terrorists think and what they're planning.
I'm not saying he's aligned with terrorists or has some sort of connection to al Qaeda, I'm just saying his knowledge of what terrorists want to do, when they want to do it, and who they want and don't want to see elected is just so deep it's as if he's on the terrorist conference calls or something.
Again, I'm not saying Joe's in league with terrorists; maybe his mind just works that way.

Question:
Was this the same Face the Nation where Clark questioned McCain's qualifications for President?
So, it's OK for McCain surrogates to declare Obama is not qualified to be CIC, but god forbid a Obama surrogate does the same?!?

pretty much. don't you know that you can't question John McCain's credentials or qualifications to be president? I mean, it may be perfectly true that the act of getting shot down doesn't qualify you to be president, but you can't say it because to say it implies that you're hate america and veterans and such.
Unless, of course, you're talking about John Kerry. Then they can just make shit up about you-it doesn't even matter if its true or not. Say he shot himself to get out of combat. Call him a coward and a liar.
But for gods sakes! Dont you dare raise the (true) point that just getting shot down doesn't qualify you to be president.

I was a little surprised by Bob Schieffer's reaction when Clark said McCain's military record doesn't qualify him to be president.
Schieffer: "It doesn't..?!?"
The statement seems pretty self-evident to me.
Schieffer is likable enough and occasionally does a good special commentary. Unfortunately, he is no longer quick enough to pick up pertinent details or hold someone such as Lieberman's pointy little hooves to the fire.

Schieffer is a boot-licking numbskull who threw the single most disgusting soft ball question to Bush in the last debate in '04 that anyone could have thought up. Because they are old friends.
IT was one of those moments - when Bush answered - when I knew there is no god, cause if there was, Bush would have been struck by lightning. The question was about the environment and Bush answered it in code to the Dominionists - he said: I believe I have been a good steward to the environment.
One of the biggest lies he ever told, and god knows he lies every time he opens his mouth.

June 30, 2008 1:46 PM | Reply | Permalink
Often, when we think of politicians, we see them as self-serving based what they say, support and vote for. But Lieberman is the more than the illustratiion of the self serving politician, he's the cartoon version.
I think Joe figures he has nothing to lose now. He realizes that his playing both ends against the middle for his own prestige is coming to an end. When Obama becomes president, Lieberman's seniority and chairmanships will be taken away from him. And not a minute too soon.

Let's not forget that if there were another attack and it could plausibly be attributed to Al Qaeda, the blame for it would need to be laid squarely at the doorstep of the White House, given the fact that this delusional jackass marionette has spent the past seven years ignoring the obvious mission at hand in favor of the moronic neocon hallucination of pursuing "democracy" in Iraq...and that the broadened Islamist terrorist capabilities both within Iraq (where they didn't previously exist) and in Afghanistan/Pakistan (where their eradication has been neglected) are entirely the fault of the fools/war criminals comprising this unelected, incapable pseudo-administration. The only thing more appalling than this demonstration of dishonesty and incompetence is the fact that public opinion is still so credulous that Republicans can have the gall (and lack of embarassment over their own incompetence) to put forward, shamelessly, the idea that only they can provide security against "terrorist" attacks...and many Americans buy it.
