GOP Senator Questions Obama's Bipartisanship -- But He Repeatedly Worked With Obama!
This is a fun one. On the McCain conference call this morning, GOP Senator Sam Brownback questioned Obama's bipartisan credentials -- even though Brownback himself has repeatedly worked with the Illinois Senator.
"I think that the biggest thing really I've seen from Barack Obama is that willingness, an aggressiveness, to talk bipartisan and yet to vote and be hard left," Brownback said.
But as the Obama campaign was quick to point out, Obama has done far more than "talk bipartisan" when it comes to Brownback himself.
Brownback himself sent out a press release in May 2007, touting their co-sponsorship of the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act," which would increase economic pressure on Iran.
Obama was an official co-sponsor of Brownback's Darfur Peace and
Accountability Act in 2006.
Brownback and Obama collaborated to introduce legislation establishing a clear U.S. policy towards the Congo in 2005.
We found these with Google in about three seconds, and there are more.
Not that facts matter, of course.

Just when you think the McCain camp can't get any more incompetent...

Before they look at Barack Obama's record control, the McCain camp ought to look at their candidate's. John McCain voted against closing the gun show loophole before he cut an ad supporting it.

Of course they don't:
1. It's an election year.
2. Brownback is a Republican.
3. Obama is a Democrat.
That's what matters.

Will the MSM pick up on this absurdity?
Don't count on it!
Nice catch, Greg.

What actually ever becomes of these conference calls?
I've only ever heard them talked about on TPM.

Sam Brownback. LOL!! Never the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Too bad Brownback won't EVER be called on this by the MSM. Democrats need to be on top of them a lot more than they have been.

you have Arnold Schwarzenegger say this:
“Politicians have been throwing around all kinds of ideas in response to the skyrocketing energy prices, from the rethinking of nuclear power to pushing biofuels and more renewables and ending the ban on offshore drilling, it goes on and on the list. But, anyone who tells you this will lower our gas prices anytime soon is blowing smoke.”

I laughed at this because it made me think of the end of the movie "Commando" where he impales a guy with a steam pipe.

"Let off some steam Bennett!"
With cold, dry wit like that he could be an action hero.

At least The Governator is telling the truth. And Obama would be wise to back him up on this issue.
If Aahnold was McCain's veep, he might tip Ohio and have a chance at turning CA red. And therefore the GE, since I don't see any routes to 270 for Obama without either Ohio or the Golden State.

Moot point, though. You can't be VP unless you were born in the US.
June 26, 2008 4:58 PM | Reply | Permalink
Exactly. He'd have been an easy VP pick for McCain otherwise.
In any case, Arnold's statement isn't a gaffe from the McCain campaign so much as just Arnold being Arnold - for a Republican, Schwarzenegger's been way ahead of the pack on alternative energy sources.

Hilarious!
The Repubs don't know how to paint Obama.
He's Muslim; no he's a black liberation theology Christian.
He's an arrogant elitist; no he's naive.
He's too black; no, he's too white.

Logical consistency is not the goal. The idea is to throw up enough smoke that people will think there must be something there. Inconsistencies can be easily explained away by simply choosing one accusation, whichever one fits a particular person's stereotypes the best, and dismissing the rest.

Aren't there any reporters on these conference calls???
Seriously, it's fairly well known that Obama and Brownback worked together a number of times in the Senate. Obama himself has mentioned it before. Do reporters on these calls actually ask questions or what? Why do I seem to know more about the context than they do?
June 26, 2008 4:12 PM | Reply | Permalink
They certainly don't challenge any of these guys on the calls. I listen to them all of the time on XM radio (POTUS 08) and it's laughable how lame the 'reporters' are.

So getting one bill passed that "Sets forth specified U.S. political, social, civil, and economic policy objectives (policy objectives) with respect to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)" (that happened to pass by unanimous consent...which means Barbara Boxer and Saxby Chambliss both agreed too)is your shining example of Obama's bipartisanship?
June 26, 2008 4:22 PM | Reply | Permalink
That and the two other examples you ignored.
June 26, 2008 4:31 PM | Reply | Permalink
And, actually, they're only examples of Obama's bipartisanship with Brownback specifically.
June 26, 2008 4:36 PM | Reply | Permalink
The two others were ignored because the Senate ignored them, one died do to lack of interest and the other hasn't even hit the floor yet...not examples of work you hang on the fridge.

Hi, I've seen you post here a few times and I can't help but notice you seem to be having a hard time trolling effectively. Have you thought about changing your avatar to an unflattering photo of Obama? You may also want to start calling yourself a 'PUMA.' Acknowledging that you're actually a Republican is so 2004.
Mostly, I think your problem is that you actually try to address points. I've noticed your general tactic is to just observe a fact and then just randomly act incredulous about it. That's not how you do it. It sets you up for a quick and easy refutation. Do you know what a red herring is? You should really look into that.
I hope that helps!

Sam Brownback is a poster child for fight against ROE v. Wade. This creep opposes abortion even in the case of rape or incest.
Is it made any better by killing an innocent child? Does it solve the problem for the woman that’s been raped?” Brownback said, according to an AP report when he was running for President.
I wouldn't mind him coming to the forefront, he is truly offensive to woman across this country and he reminds little else than his fight against woman's right to choose.

Republicans have already demonstrated that they are unworthy to govern. Given the parade of gaffes from the McCain camp, they may also be demonstrating that they are unworthy to campaign, as well.
June 26, 2008 5:01 PM | Reply | Permalink
Has anyone noticed that once again McCain has launched a meme, flogged it with surrogates, and the Obama campaign is in the process of defending against it? As ridiculous as it is, remember this is about those voters who aren't that active and just get their news bites and make a vote.

In today's insane political world, one need only say something - say it out loud on TV - for it to become, in some sense (enough to get your campaign through another day), true. It's sickening really. The pols have learned that once you say it - the media world has moved on and will never have the time or energy or resources to go around correcting every piece of bu**shit these talking heads spew.

Could not have said it better myself . . . he's an extreme radical with severe tunnel vision. His primary goal to be president was to overturn Wade vs Roe! Hate to admit it he's one of my senators.

Wow I guess Cornyn's "Big John" ad isn't helping him much. I cracked up when I saw that embarrassing ad on The Daily Show. Cornyn should lose just for running that stereotype Texas crap. Noriega is hanging in there even though he really needs more campaign funds to compete with Cornyn's big fundraising. Any of you have some spare change, donate at ricknoriega.com because we would love to win that seat here in Texas.
