Dem Who Said Obama "May Be Terrorist-Connected": Fox News Made Me Do It!
This is both sad and funny. A Tennessee Democrat is now apologizing for saying last week that Barack Obama might be "terrorist-connected" -- and he's blaming Fox News for putting the idea in his head!
"My statement that Senator Obama 'may be terrorist-connected' was incorrect and I apologize for making it," said Fred Hobbs, a member of the state party's executive committee, in a letter obtained by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
In perhaps the mother of all understatements, Hobbs added that his comments were caused by "what I had seen reported on Fox News, but I should have taken some time to check the accuracy of what I saw on television before speaking publicly."

Interesting. My TV told me that Fred Hobbs is a fucking moron.

How do complete idiots without any critical thinking skills get elected into public office? What exactly does that say about the people voting them in?
June 19, 2008 10:12 AM | Reply | Permalink
Sometimes they get in with a little help from SCOTUS or rigged voting machines in Ohio.
As for the electorate, I think H.L. Mencken summed it up best.
"Democracy is the theory that the common man knows what he wants and deserves to get it good and hard."

Fred Hobbs, a member of the state party's executive committee...
He's a party official, not elected to public office. He was probably elected in a state party committee meeting, not open to the general public or most registered Democrats. So most of the time he has very little power or influence - state parties tend to have limited relevancy. Even so, the man should resign from the executive committee. If he won't, the Tennessee party should remove him.
Sure, people make mistakes, but you really can't be this careless on national television. It's time for Fred to take one for the team.

But now I'm so confused. Lanny Davis said that Faux News is fair and balanced. Maybe Lanny and Faux are full of sh*t. Gosh...

Having finally watched this video clip, it isn't the idiocy of the Fox News squirrels that gets me, it's the thing they didn't mention. I don't think that touching "personal moment" of fists meetings was nearly as intimate as the pat on the bottom that followed it. Now, when guys do this to each other at sporting events, we all know it's some sort of weird guy thing-maybe like Bush's "chest bump": Me Tarzan, me overflowing with testosterone. But when Obama pats his wife's bottom in such a public forum, now that's sharing an intimate moment. I don't even think we need a "body language expert" for that one.
Probably Fox just didn't think they could get anyone to foam at the mouth over that one - but wait! Maybe they're not really married! Maybe the license is a fake!! OMG!!!

At some point, you are going to have to deal with facts before opining. You were unaware of where ED Hill "made the terrorist fist jab" comment. That was pretty common knowledge. Fox News also labeled Michelle Obama "Barack's Baby Mama". This was just weeks after a Fox News analyst joked about assassinating Osama and Obama. Fox is disgusting. Please try to stay current.
Regarding Sen Byrd, it is true that he was a former Klan recriuter (Kleagle). In the 1960's, following the death of a grandson, he came to realize that Blacks loved their children as much as he loved his. An autoobiography written in 1968 gives the details.
Senator Byrd has an 85% rating on Civil Rights issues from the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Byrd voted for additional funding for the MLK Memorial planned for DC. He has transformed.
Lastly, referencing you statement that
Democrats cannot be racist. This seems to be a lamenntation that the GOP is tagged as being racially insensitive. This label is due to actions of the GOP and Conservatives themselves:
_Barry Goldwater and his States Rights positions (read segregation is OK)
_Reagan began his Presidential campaign in Phildelphia MIss (cite of the deaths of three Civil Rights workers)
_Lee Atwater's Southern Strategy
_Rush Limbaugh's "Barack the Magic Negro"
_O'Reilly's surprise that Blacks could eat civilly at a Black-owned NYC restaurant.
If the GOP and Conservatives wat to know why they are considered in such low regard, they should look in the mirror.
Two classic scenes in this year's GOP Presidential contest were:
_Romney at an MLK celebration goes over to a Black family and asks "Who let the Dogs out, Woof, Woof". Followed using the word "bling" to describe the costume a little African-American girl dressed up as a quuen for the MLK parade was wearing.
_Sen McCain giving his MLK Day speech in the rain with the umbrella being held over his head by an old Black guy.
You people are just flat out comical on issues of race.
Just yesterday we had Sean Hannity's radio partner in crime, Lars Larson, on MSNBC talking about how Michelle Obama should be thankful for the degrees she had been "given". All this as part of the GOP mudsling attacks on the Obamas.
Well SFC, you should hope that the sights are not turned on the adulterer husband who left his injured first wife to marry a drug-addicted, charity fund lifting trophy blonde multimillionaire who will not disclose details of her finances to the American public.
The GOP is no longer the home of Lincoln Republicans. Those people are now Democratic Party members. The Dixiecrats fled to the GOP.

You forgot the part about the Republican Senator that was on TV a couple of years ago throwing the "N-word" around like it was his job...wait...that was Robert Byrd again, my bad, forget it, he's got an 85% rating.
June 19, 2008 3:39 PM | Reply | Permalink
SFC,
the reference Byrd used was "white nigger";
"Byrd made reference to whites who are still opposed to equal civil rights by saying, "There are white niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time; I'm going to use that word." He later issued a statement apologizing for his remark."
And yes, you're correct, he has an 85% approval from the NAACP on civil rights. How does that compare to any Republican in Congress or the Bush administration?

Thanks for the comment
It is getting tiresome to have to reply to people who either are unaware of the events or take comments out of context. SFCWallace only wants factoids, not facts.
There is a conscious decision to avoid lokking at decisions Conservatives have made in their interaction with the African-American community. In return, the African-American community gives the GOP as much consideration and understanding as the Black community receives, none.
Charles Barkley went from Alanbama GOP political prospect to Obama supporter because of the WG Bush administration. The very staid African-American community in Marta's Vineyard has turned from the GOP.
Even the gullible 20% of the African-American community in Ohio who supported GW Bush in 2004 realize that they were used by the GOP. The "Outreach Program" to the community ended right after the election.
The GOP talks in civil tones to White blue collar workers, military members, churchgoers. When they talk to African-Americans, the venom starts pouring out. It's just the GOP's nature.
Keep posting SFCWallace, you only prove my point.

Wait till SFC wakes from his stupor and discovers he lost the House, the Senate and soon the White House, not to mention that 6 years of rule by his gang; Bush, Cheney, DeLay, Lott, etc. has destroyed the Republican party for at least a generation.
Karl Rove may yet get his "permanent majority", trouble is, it will be a Democratic permanent majority.
