Dem Chances Increase For Key Virginia House Seat

In a further good omen for House Democrats as they seek to expand their majority this Fall, CQ has upgraded its rating for the Dems on the northern Virginia House seat of retiring GOP Rep. Tom Davis, from "No Clear Favorite" to "Leans Democrat."

Primaries on Tuesday elected Democratic Gerry Connolly, chairman of the Fairfax county board, and Republican businessman Keith Fimian, to be their parties' respective nominees. Connolly is a strong fundraiser with high name recognition, and should be able to stay competitive against any potential self-financing by Fimian.

Northern Virginia's swing to the Democrats has been responsible for major Dem gains in recent years, most notably the election of Jim Webb to the Senate. The district went to George W. Bush by less than one point in 2004, and in a strong year for the Dems could plausibly be carried by Barack Obama, which would make it quite difficult for the GOP to hold on here.

We have to get this house seat and work our best to get Frank Wolf out in the 10th District! This year has got to be our best chance with a strong candidate in Judy Feder and the names on the top of the ticket in Obama and then Mark Warner for the open Senate seat!

For the first time in my life, I might get to actually see my Virginia go true-blue!

Well, Barack is doing well on all of the polls, including http://www.votenic.com. He still needs to choose a running mate that will help him get to the white house, and this polling site has a VP poll each week. It includes Hillary Clinton in the poll, so see if America thinks she should be Barack's running mate.

The district is now Democratic and the local and state Republican parties are in disarray. The only thing that kept Tom Davis in his seat two years ago was that he was a familiar incumbent with a long history of delivering the pork. Davis saw the writing on the wall; no way is it going to go any better for a no-name self-financer.

I'm not in Connolly area but I will contribute. I want Mark Warner in the Senate and will contribute and volunteer, if required. I wish for Webb to remain in the Senate. Virginia will have a blue governor and two blue senators. Then we can start work on the state legislature. I cannot wait!
