Tucker Carlson is having a hissyfit over the empty promises, "what presidents are never able to do." Tucker does not get that it will be the People doing the doing, as it were.
Tucker would be absent T.V. without the hissyfit. It's clear he's shoved his bow-tie so far up his ass he's spitting Ascots.

I emailed after-hours to point out that Tucker was full of shit about his "universal healthcare in the first year" straw-man. Obama has specifically said that he would get that done by the end of his first TERM.
Of course he wasn't slammed for spewing such fraudulent lies.

Obama did mention that he wants to get a bill going in the first 100 days--during the honeymoon period.

Getting a bill going is not even close to the bullshit Tucker was lying it into.

Yeah, I heard the bozo also. It's just a republican talking point and artificially twisting what obama is saying. What a putz. I think the corporate dem establishment, the clintons, and the republicans are shaking in their boots about what obama could accomplish. No more lobbyists. No more free lunches on tax payer dollars. No more privatization. No more politics as usual. Gee, is that so hard to accomplish if the people are pissed and you get a mandate? I don't think so. His bullsh*t about the founders and gridlock, is just bullsh*t. In the last 200 years we have manipulated and twisted the constitution and the inner-workings of government so bad it is nothing like what was originally intended by the founders. That argument as well is another bs republican talking point. Bottom line, pathetic.

I guess it depends on what the definition of is is, as in popular vote. According to clintonian math, no. According to msnbc, including montana and excluding michigan and the caucus states, yes. Unfortunately, since the woman would lie about being under sniper fire, I can assure you that regardless of what the actual "popular vote" was she would lie about it. As a result, it's a moot point because the clintons would lie about it anyway.

Have you learned nothing from this campaign? If we did that, she'd just invent another metric.
It is impossible to win a debate about whether 2+2=4 or 2+2=5. Once you acquiecse to having the debate, you've already lost; In that debate, teh proponents of 4 will always be constrained by the actual principals of mathematics, whereas the proponents of 5 will be free to endlessly invent new principals everytime you disprove the ones they used before.

Well, let me see if I understand this. Obama has made history tonight as the first african-american as the nominee of a major political party in the western world, not just the US. Unbelievable. Amazing. We will be talking to our grand-kids about this.
And, what's the heading on the front page: "Obama declares himself the nominee." That's fucked up. What's the heading above his speech: "Obama's primary night speech." That's fucked up as well. Why is there no respect from the clintons, the clintons' surrogates including TPM, Mcbush, anybody? Hello. This is an incredible and historical event and the response is no big deal and by the way he is claiming it himself, not every fucking news organization and the supers that have come out and endorsed him.
Damn, I can't wait until the clintons are gone. Pathetic.

You are correct. It is amazing. This man --- this African-American (in the absolute strictest sense) man --- has been so extremely gracious to this "old school" politician.
She has not returned in kind. She has basically made herself a caricature. Her supporters, many of them (Harriet Christian) are caricatures. Tonight, with her pigheadedness, she reinforced those caricatures.
And even the talking heads of corporate media are blown away. She was foolish. She was selfish. She's done. They're done (her and Bill).

Afterhours on MSNBC was talkign about Hillary for VP, yes/no?
Here is my quick reply giving the top-three reasons is should be no:
1) Iraq: She voted for it, and destroys the Obama argument that judgment trumps McCain's experience, because she had the same lapse of judgement that has killed thousands of our troops and enabled the biggest foreign policy disaster in our nation's history. She forces that issue off the table because McCain can simply point to her to negate his clean argument on this issue and thereby cedes national security by default because she is on the ticket.
2) She unifies the GOP: She would be the single biggest unifying force for the GOP base to embrace McCain.
3) GOP pre-loaded GOP talking points: The GOP can avoid talking on the issues if the CLinton name is on the ticket. All they have to say is "Hillarycare" and half the country tunes out and rejects the Democratic potion in Pavlovian response to the tainted brand name of Clinton.

Yep, no on a clintonian co-vp. It would be an unmitigated disaster. Especially after the way she has totally demeaned and smeared obama, among many other reasons. Can you see the republican attack ads. Oh, my God.

"Even Senator Obama's own vp nominee states that he is not ready to be commander in chief. Can we trust him to protect us from the islamo-fascists?" [Mushroom Cloud]. The End.

for example, see e.t. 08:00 on the following video clip:
http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/05302008/watch2.html
She also mocked Barack's position on negotiating with bad guys,
and out-dicked TheDick on Iranian obliteration.

Don't disagree. She is toxic on Iraq/National Security issues if she is on an Obama ticket because she works against his narrative which re-frames those issues because Obama was fully against the war from before it was authorized and launched.
i.e. it's the judgment stupid.

Fuck making nice after that speech of hers. But Obama is a better man than me and I suppose he will find a way to toss her a bone, keep her happy and out of his hair at the same time. That's why I want him to be the prez, he's way better at this than I would be. I would just call Clinton and tell her to go fuck herself if she still remembers how.

For those who are intersted, ARG was off in South Dakota by 16 (they predicted C by 26, it was C by 10) and off by 12 in Montana (they predicted O by 4 and it was O by 16).
This caps a truly awful run in which they predicted 25 races during the primaries and the margin between Obama and Clinton was off by an average of 10 points. That means they consistengtly predicted, by an average of 10 points, a better margin for Clinton than was realized. In 19 of the 25 races, they predicted a better margin for Clinton. In 9 races, they were off in favor of Clinton by more than 10 points (SD, MT, VA, OR, DE ,CT, IA, IL, SC). In only one race (NH) were they off by 10+ points for Obama, and that one every pollster got wrong that way.
This is truly awful polling and clearly with a bias. I mean, I could understand if early on they were polling slightly better for Clinton, realized it, and then corrected later. But their favoritism for Clinton was even worse at the end.
What keeps them in business? Clearly not competence.

Yes, I totally agree. It Was Her Turn. She was Entitled to be president by Divine Right of Succession to her Husband, the Greatest President in in the History of our so-called "republic." It is an affront to the democratic process that she was even forced to seriously engage in these silly farcical "election" thingees. And for her to lose? That's an assault on the Devine Order in what is, after all, a plutocratic monarchy. Oh my sense of outrage and carefully nursed grievance is too large to ever be assuauaged by something as trivial as what's best for the country and its all Obama's fault.

As an Obama fan, I was a volunteer 16 months ago in Springfield Illinois when he announced his candidacy. Seventeen thousand people came from around the nation, and stood in the extremely cold air of below 10 degrees, to be present at that historic moment.
I helped direct cars to free parking lots for five hours and had to keep moving farther and farther from the speech venue as the closer-in parking lots filled. I lost track of the cars with out-of-state license plates, but I will never forget the joy-filled faces of those inside all of those cars as they opened their car windows to hear specifics on where to park. They said they were there to witness history and had brought their children to witness history.
Well, yesterday was an absolutely terrible day in my long haul of following and supporting Barack Obama. I missed all the news and all the speeches because severe storms caused electricity outage in my entire county from mid-morning yesterday until early am today. No news about the day's endorsements, or the last two primary results.....sleeping in the basement, and missing the culmination [in real time] of what began 16 months ago.
But, hey, I can live with missing the day, and I am catching up through TPM this morning. Thanks, TPM!

So sorry, Donna! But, do catch the speech, truly inspiring. I've decided I'm taking my son down to see Obama when he's inaugurated. We were reviewing for his AP US History final last night and stopped to hear Obama's speech. We broke in the middle of reviewing the material on sectional conflict leading to the Civil War and then got to hear Obama's incredibly stirring words and we talked about a new Progressive movement and it was just really terrific. It's so fun to see my son so interested and really believing in our political system.

So, it's the next morning, and I'm still dazed and giddily, blissfully happy. I really didn't think I'd get in last night!
My daughter (15 yrs old, who was with me last night) said she supports him even more now that she's heard him in person.
I love his quietly powerful presence. All of us in the stands were going simply mad with applause and yelling (and crying, in my case), and he wasn't swamped with egomaniacal satisfaction, you know? It was part of the experience for him, but not the main part. The main part for him was the whole big historical moment and the message he wanted to share. I don't know, I don't think I'm describing it very well, but it was really clear that his intention is not personal gratification whatsoever, it is about his grandmother and it's about the people of the US and it's about hope for the future. Our love and applause and screams and everything was appreciated, but it wasn't the point of it all. Something about that seems significant.
Off to work, Day 1 of Life in a Much, Much Better World!!

I thought that, once again, Obama's speech was pitch-perfect, exactly right for the moment. The way he treated Hillary could not have been better, lavishing praise in the right way without being patronizing or phony. Yet another stroke of brilliance.

Cenk Uyger from The Young Turks had a great point about the three speeches last night.
McCain's speech was all about Obama
Clinton's speech was all about herself, and
Obama's speech was all about the country. Which message do you think will resonate more with voters?
June 4, 2008 9:35 AM | Reply | Permalink
mr. grenadine has often commented on how infrequently Obama uses the "I" statement. instead, he regularly uses "we". no wonder he makes people feel involved, and no wonder Clinton still does not comprehend the difference.

What's interesting is that is the way the speeches have been going for months now. The vast majority of obama's speeches are always about the country. He throws in some jabs every once in a while, but they are truly uplifting.
The other two suck as public speakers and don't get it. Clinton always praised herself, kind of weird when you think about it, and mcbush, he doesn't want to talk about the country because the country is in terrible shape.

What an awesome experience being there! The atmosphere was electric.... The speech was awesome. The crowd exploded when we finally received the words we were waiting for.... I am the Democratic nominee for President of the United States of America coming from Obama's mouth. Michelle looked beautiful and what a cute, loving couple. My boyfriend and I screamed ourselves hoarse and clapped until our hands hurt and clapped some more. Just a totally uplifting atmosphere. Everyone was excited to be a Democrat, to oppose the war, to have so many qualified nominees this year.
The crowd was very gratious to Hillary Clinton, the atmosphere was friendly, with quite a few former (and still) Clinton supporters (I believe) near us. I just had a feeling they were. They were very excited when Obama praised her, a bit more lukewarm for the rest of the speech. But cheered they did and "boo" they didn't. There were no shouts of "Denver". No sides ways glances. They knew last night was going to be history and they wanted to support the Democratic nominee. The attack lines against McCain, Bush, and the GOP went over very well. I left feeling very uplifted and knowing, that if MN is any example, the Democratic party is fired up and ready to go! And yes, there will be unity!
Yes, we can!

A very friendly crowd. I was amazed looking out at the crowd, young, old, black, white, brown, every shade in between, blue collar-working class, white class, kids, women and men, gay, straight, mothers, fathers, grandmothers, and grandfathers. I was very happy to be a part of such a diverse party as the Democrats are and very proud that Senator Obama could bring us together with so much excitement.
Back in February when I voted for Clinton, I thought these rallies were silly and kind of American Idol. Being there I experienced something totally different. The unity, the community, the atmosphere itself was so inclusive. I really felt like we were all family. Happy to have you be a part of that olwhitelady. Happy I met Tish, a very nice young woman, who sat next to us, too! Hi, Tish!!!

It is amazing that he so stoic even as he makes history and wins the Democratic nomination, with no sign of self-congratulation, no sign of arrogance, he is the ultimate gracious winner to say the least. He is serious about the challenges ahead, and barely even lets a smile out on one of the biggest days of his life. Contrast that with Hillary's masturbatory "Me Me Me" speech and McCain's "I'm going to smile like a toddler who finally learned how to use the potty every time I think I make a good point" speech. As they say on Sesame Street, one of these is not like the other, and I'll give you one guess at who stands out.
