Yet Another GOP Senator Hits Airwaves Early, Suggesting Worry About Re-Election
This new ad from Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) is worth a watch -- the fact that she's on the air five months before the election suggests that yet another red-state Senator is worried about her re-election.
Furthermore, the ad is a reminder that Republican candidates haven't given up on illegal immigration as a key issue for the party in the Fall elections:
Democrats are hopeful that their nominee here, state Sen. Kay Hagan, will be able to make this a real race. Despite Dole's high name recognition, multiple polls taken since the primary have shown the two candidates to be in a statistical dead heat.

Almost all of the sheriffs but one were white. If an ad like this played in South Texas, the Republican would be clobbered massively by the Hispanic vote.
Hey, that reminds me--what's the hispanic makeup in Dole's district?

NC Hispanic population was 6.7 % in 2006, compared to 4.7% in 2000 and just 1.1% in 1990. this makes NC one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the country.

Turning Senate seats Democratic is my most hopeful wish, if for no other reason, than to toss Lieberman off his committee.

Ahhhh, the sweet smell of desperation. I can feel 60 plus coming, without traitor joe. I also hope the dems put traitor joe out to pasture.

The first thing President Obama ought to do is give ol' Joe a cabinet post and get him out of the Senate so they can replace him with a real Democrat. DHS would be a good choice.

Actually, an excellent point. How about health and human services instead?

Ambassador to Iran would be interesting, but Antarctica is farther away.

I'd put him out to pasture. Period.

Seeing Turncoat Joe dissolve away in irrelevance will be second only to an Obama presidency. Better put an extra bottle of bubbly in the fridge!

I'm from NC and Dole has really not done anything noteworthy. She is a Bush supporter and her votes align with him. We need alot of support to unseat her. The Obama coat-tails will help her opponent alot and I expect a close race!

If only we can get Hagan to act like she cares.

Who is that woman? She seems vaguely familiar. Oh, it's Sen. Dole, aged six years since she was last seen in North Carolina.

Incidentally, why is dole the senator for North Carolina? Her hubby was from Kansas. Is it like the clinton from new york thing? I don't get it. Was NC given to her on a silver platter like NY was given to clinton? Just curious. It seems kind of odd.

Gordon Smith of Oregon came out with his first spot in late April. From Blue Oregon:

At the time, we were getting ready to vote for a Dem candidate, and both primary candidates were beating him by a couple of points, effectively tied with him. He's definitely in trouble.

Agreed.
Smith has already dropped over half a million attacking the Democratic nominee Jeff Merkley while he was in a well fought close primary fight with another strong progressive.
Smith is polling below 50% and within the margin of error with Merkley. Smith's only hope is to outspend the shit out of Merkley on an air-war to try to bamboozle voters into swallowing his fake "moderate" schtick he trots out each election cycle.

The hand-picked dragon-killer that the RNC has been bragging who would knock-off Senator John Kerry . . . could not collect enough signaturers to be on the ballot. I believe that the dude's name was Augustino . . .

Very vulnerable seat. One note, the shot of her walking next to a construction site has nothing to do with immigration or Sheriffs. It was taken on a campus construction site in Kannapolis, NC. I'm not sure why it was included in the video unless they were so hard-pressed to find shots of her actually in North Carolina. Kay Hagan has an excellent shot of unseating her in the tsunami of 2008.

Oh, the Senate campaign. Maybe we'll get to see our absentee senator during the election season. But the good people of NC did sent her...correction, kept her in Washington.

Funny you should ask its hard to tell she makes Joan Rivers look like she needs a touch up. She is as worthless a Senator we have ever had except for ( hate to go here ,but) John Edwards.

Is it legal for officers of the law to appear in political ads like this?
Or maybe it's just members of the armed forces?

She's off her rocker.
Has anyone gone through the NC court records to see how many crazy white guys with guns commit crimes compared to illegals?
What percentage of illegals are in NC, and does Dole know the state cannot override federal immigration laws?
That is a sedition crime for a state to do that.
I understand that the only thing Dole has is fear mongering and blaming others for most of the state being dolts.
The ad never mentions punishments for businesses that hire those illegals.
They must live in SC and travel to work every day.
Ok I understand now. Dizzy Lizzy the Viagra Queen.
