Tickets For Big Michigan And Florida Meeting Already Sold Out!

The Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting this Saturday -- where the fates of the Florida and Michigan delegations, not to mention the Democratic Primary, may be decided once and for all -- is certainly stirring an intense amount of public interest.

It turns out that hundreds of tickets for members of the general public to watch the proceedings live sold out within minutes.

Meanwhile, a key organizer of Hillary supporters who are planning to show up en masse to insist on a full seating of both delegations vows of the proceedings: "We're trying to flood it."

It's yet another surprising turn in a race full of surprises that a meeting of something called the "Rules and Bylaws Committee" has the potential to produce must-watch political theater -- with great consequence. But it likely will be just that.

You can watch all the Saturday drama live on, um, C-Span. We will be.

Clinton supporters are going to flood it, disrupt it, maybe even stage a Brooks Brothers riot? (Sorry. "Recount" is seared on my brain)

Working hard to divide things as much as possible.

Meanwhile, the Obama campaign wants his supporters to stay classy.

'Cause, you know, they know it's over

maybe even stage a Brooks Brothers riot? (Sorry. "Recount" is seared on my brain)

Quit kicking me!

user-pic

Stop eating those chad (no s) !!!

don't have to watch it on C-Span.
I will BE there, baby.

user-pic

The return of the quote marked "present".

"don't have to watch it on C-Span.
I will BE there, baby."

Hope they shake you down upon entering.

Pantsuit Riot.

reminds me of recount..when they protested and stopped the count in dade county.
unbeliiiievable

folks need to keep remembering the last SNL live

It's insane and their threat to produce another canned demonstration just like the Repugs is just true to form.

If she can't win legitimately, she's going to do everything she can to delegitimize Obama's win.

And damn the Clintons to hell. They have torn at the Democratic Party since they first appeared and now they want to nuke it.

Fuck them.

I second that, you're right! Fuck 'Em!

I just hope we're past the point where the MSM laps up this staged melodrama uncritically.

don't bet on it.

user-pic

Absolutely not.

Are you mad? They'll be all over it. It will be a swarm.

user-pic

I'd like some of what you're on.

My guess? It'll be all the talk of the Sunday morning blab fests.

MSM won't give up on this drama without a fight. All that advertising rev. How hungry they will be. THey's milk it for every photo frame and soundbite.

Next step - generate (or try) similar or worse antagonism with Republicans.

It's on a Saturday. They all have the weekend off.

No they do not.

Both CNN and MSNBC announced they will be there and provide LIVE coverage.

Blitzer, Matthews and Todd all will have ringside seats.

Nothing like live TV to broacast worlwide the Dems looking like BUFFOONS, FANATICS and CRAZIED politicos.

ugh...
just more DAMN Clinton DRAMA!!

vote for Obama no more drama

Chris Matthews could barely contain himself today about covering the committee meeting this Saturday. I think he said he's going to broadcast from Puerto Rico the next day as well?

NO DRAMA, VOTE OBAMA!

According to the below post, Obama campaign is urging supporters not to try to counter-protest the protest that HRC's folks are reportedly planning outside the hotel, but instead recommending that they go to a "counter-event" -- registering voters in Northern VA.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/27/143533/931/88/523677

That was sourced from a friend who knows a volunteer within the Obama campaign. It's not an official-say so from the Obama camp.

Well, it appears you are better informed that on this, but I read the DKos post to refer to "Chicago HQ's" instructions. There seems little doubt that these instructions will become official, since, as noted by many below, it's not in Obama's interest or the party's interest to create a tense scene.

If Obama's gonna bring a mob to the event, it will only be a mob of superdelegates poised to render moot any resolution the committee comes up with. Or is it a "bevy" of SDs; or a "pride," or a "pod"?

user-pic

Oo, one of my favorite discussions.

what is a multiple of superdelegates? A consortium of superdelegates?

A shining of superdelegates? A slosh of superdelegates?

A skirmish of SDs?

A synod of superdelegates?

user-pic

A skirl of superdelegates?

I certainly wouldn't call it a pride.

Someone has to decide. Although I will be accused of home cooking, I select pod. The reasons are obvious: like whales, SDs are mammalian; sociable and above average communicators; much weightier than others, and their future long-term survival in doubt.

user-pic

We could borrow the one from the multiple for crows:

A murder of superdelegates.

A Gaggleodels

A Grist of superdelegates

A Hive of superdelegates. And so on:

Swarm

Colony

Embarrassment

Shoal

Pandemonium

A Plague of superdelegates

A Hurdle of superdelegates.

A quarrel of superdelagates

A hesitancy of superdelegates...

user-pic

LOL

Touchรฉ

Seems a lot more presidential to me.

As usual, the Obama camp is a class act.

I've told them a hundred times: Put "Spinal Tap" first and "Rules and Bylaws Committee" last.

user-pic

Well "it is such a thin line between clever and stupid."

You'd think the Clintons would be they're so obnoxious.

What must it be like, to wake up every morning and wonder how you can screw the Democratic party?

Well, the typical day starts with repeating 10 times into the mirror, "It is not over. I'm a fighter. I'm not a quitter. Popular vote matters, etc. ..."

Then there's the daily conference-call to Karl Rove ...

user-pic

LOL!

Have to laugh to keep from crying.

I just watched the 2000 election being stolen, again, the other night.

It really kills me - she's going to produce another Brooks Bros riot just when the whole thing was on HBO.

Doh!

I'm guessing Bill and Hill already have a deal on the movie rights, so, even if they lose, they win!

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!

Ooops!

That was supposed to read - You'd think the Clintons would be tired of themselves, they're so obnoxious.

Meanwhile, a key organizer of Hillary supporters who are planning to show up en masse to insist on a full seating of both delegations vows of the proceedings: "We're trying to flood it."

Any chance Howard Dean will call in the Pinkertons to deal with this? Reckon we need to take care of this mess 1890s-style!

OK, that may be a bit extreme. After all, Clinton supporters are Democrats...as far as I know

user-pic

Yes, some people say the Clintons are Democrats.

Indeed! Only a strawman would believe the Clintons are Democrats. Haha...

No they're not they're Clingons!

user-pic

ROFL

That's a keeper.

Or, as Hillary would frame it:

"People come up to me all the time and say, 'Are the Clintons Democrats?'"

user-pic

LOL!

Well the DNC is stupid for selling tickets this way, they should of done it via raffle so this wouldn't happen.

Auction to help relieve the Clingons debt!

Hillary Supporter = someone with waaaaay too much time on their hands! And some serious repressed anger issues!

They will screw that up too.

Just count the votes now or they won't vote in the general.

Its a no brainer.

user-pic

...the preceding was brought to you by the bitter-ender contingent in the GOP caucus.

Its a no brainer.

Well, I certainly wouldn't argue with an expert on this subject.

user-pic

LOL!

(one of the joys of scrolling down the thread when it gets longer is seeing stuff like this that I missed before.)

user-pic

Sure, Uncommitteds in MI go to Obama. No problem.. What? you don't want those uncommitted votes to count?

user-pic

Hillary who?

I've pre-registered and I'll be attending that meeting.

user-pic

Whoo-hoo! Go Fluff!

Can you live blog from it, do you think?

The hotel has wireless access, I think, but I'll check in with the DNC to confirm.

Kewl! Our own link to the madness!

Fabulous!

give us the details when you can.

I'll be doing a liveblog from Dailykos.

user-pic

And that's excellent news....for everyone!

Can you wave when on camera? Will confirm a few notions for all of us....wave...and make sure to wear the kool aid flapel pin.

oops, I thought gotalife was the one going to the meeting. Fluffer- correction. What a bummer? Far less dramatic.

'tis the avatars. I think gotalife counts on the eye confusions.

user-pic

Maybe less dramatic, but a little more rational, wouldn't you say?

Who thinks Fluff should wear a big foam "We're #1 hand" at the meeting? Too overstated?

He will be the kook dressed up like superman.

Are you going too?

You know, to support your candidate, for whom you've harrangued us for months. Only fitting to be there at the end, supporting her.

Greg, Can you tell us how many tickets were up for sold and would you've any idea how many can be expected when the hall is at its capacity?

user-pic

According to the info I got from the Obama campaign, there are 100 seats for guests.

thnx!

user-pic

Sigh. It sucks to be a Clinton supporter among a bunch of Obama supporters having fun, doesn't it?

Poor widdle gotalife.

user-pic

I think a Genghis color changing shirt will help us pick him out in the crowd.

would it be too much to ask that you post a blog on TPM Cafe too?

I think I saw your posts in the DailyKos thread discussing live blogging it last night. Looking forward to seeing your impressions!

user-pic

Me, too! See you there!

Having just watched HBO's production of "Recount," I sense a similarity between the the Republicans' staged post-election demonstrations in 2000 in Florida and this pro-Clinton effort to stampede the committee.

user-pic

I know. It was hard enough to watch that production, and Saturday, we'll probably be subjected to more faux outrage that our crackerjack media will report breathlessly on, all through the night.

I wouldn't be surprised if this somehow gets broadcast live, on cable Saturday night (and not just on CSpan).

This primary season is like a never ending root canal.

user-pic

Well duh

I just said that, too.

And I was crying by the end of "Recount," just like I started crying right at the beginning of Fahrenheit 9-11.

It's hard as hell to watch and I can't believe she's doing this.

user-pic

that "well duh" was meant for Hillary, by the way.

I'm sure Howard Dean will be so impressed with this bull shit he'll just turn the whole election around!

bwhaaaa!

Don't forget the delegates!

They will see the righteous outrage and fall for Clinton! It's the only chance she has.

If there's anything I know from my dating past, it's that if I throw a fit, I win over the girl.

Really? I never let a guy get away with throwing fits. Ever. How does it work - the anatomy of it?

oh! D'uh! Never mind. You were being saracastic. Sorry.

user-pic

I'm not sure I want to know what the anatomy of a guy throwing a fit is.

LOL!

;)

user-pic

Trust me, you don't.

There's nothing more unattractive than watching a man throw a hissy fit.

Is that sexist? Yeah, it is. It's also true.

user-pic

Actually, my second husband - the "middle husband every woman deserves to have so can forget" regularly threw fits.

It is not pretty.

That's why I left him.

What I was asking, very ineptly, is how he won over the girl. But it was a d'uh moment and irrelevant because it was sarcasm.

I can't stand hissy fits. I had three brothers and none of them were allowed to throw hissy fits. I learned early to not tolerate it.

er, have. Not - had.

user-pic

I have nothing to add. Just wanted to throw the picture of Pete into the mix to confuse the non-cat fanciers out there....

LOL!

Say hi to Pete from Stash.

Being a man, I'm sorry I brought this up.

Instead of throwing fits, I'd just make a pathetic phone call that was followed by me walking around alone in the countryside with a bottle of beer, moping.

But the point is, Clinton supporters take heed: Desperation ain't pretty.

Count the votes as is?? So, I guess the whole "I agree to follow the DNC rules...oh wait, I won?? Hey, the votes should count!" bullshit tirade from the Shrillary pack is legitimate in your eyes?

I'm a Clinton, so that's reason enough to change the rules of the game in the fourth quarter with 20 seconds left of play - that's legitimate??

She's done for! Even when counting FL and MI in their entirety. But of course, no member of the Rules Committee is willing to commit political suicide, especially for HER, by going against the candidate with the pledged delegate lead, superdelegate lead, popular vote lead, especially in red state districts and the potential to increase Democratic voter turnout by nearly twice what it was in 2004.

All for Shrillary. Uhhhh, no...I don't see that happening.

Obama is the winner - simple as that!

OBAMA SUPPORTERS, DON'T counter protest, go register voters:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/27/143533/931/88/523677

user-pic

No worries.

I'm a very long way away. I don't have any interest in getting involved in that crap, either.

user-pic

I just read upthread that flufferwink and redstate are attending. Instead of the foam #1 sign, both need a big sign:

"While Hillary supporters protest
Obama's are registering voters!"

Impact yes?

user-pic

Certainly more than a big puffy hand indicating we're #1!

Seriously. That would be a greatsign to have outside the meeting.

While Shrillary is shilling for votes in primary states still, Obama and his campaign are spread out in ALL STATES registering voters!

What has she been doing? Dancing in Puerto Rico...

Tell me now who has the most potential for doing good for the Democratic party this year!

Don't forget drinking.

Not a chance. I am enjoying an adult beverage presently.

(Oh. You meant Hillary. Never mind!)

Clinton will win all the votes because the DNC did not penalize the other States that moved up their primaries.

Obama screwed up by taking his name off the ballot.

She gets all the votes.

user-pic

*buzzer sound*

Sorry, we'll send you a home version of the game, though! Thanks for playing!

http://www.newyorker.com/talk/comment/2008/06/02/080602taco_talk_hertzberg

Perhaps, gotalife is trying to insert his legendary sense of humor here.

Maybe, this is his infectious sense of fun.

;)

user-pic

Thanks for playing

Yes, we've got some loving parting gifts for you. So take them, and part, please.

Actuall he is right...He's using reverse polish notation.

user-pic

To which other states do you refer? The only moving up that was against the rules was scheduling prior to Super Tuesday. South Carolina was allowed for some southern attention, Nevada for western attention, and Iowa and New Hampshire, of course, have always been where they are (though they have earlier dates now to coordinate with a schedule that's been pushed forward overall).

Ever used the google?

Geez.

user-pic

Ever directly answered a question?

Geez.

Seth: You got him a single line. He just has a couple talking points that he beats up all day.

Hillary camp can't even employ a smart ass with a torch in broad day light.

user-pic

Oh, I know. I just decided a little while ago that I'd start confronting rather than allowing. If you frame his "points" in the context of an attempt to have a discussion about them, they cease to have whatever small meaning they may have had in the first place.

Gotalife always reminds me the Ms. Teen America contestant.

Why do you think more than 20% of Americans find it difficult to locate their country on a world map?

Here is her answer, read and judge yourself..parllels with gotalife are shockingly similar.

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation donโ€™t have maps and uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as. And I believe that they should, uh, our education over here! In the U.S. should help the U.S., or, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for our children.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww

user-pic

But we have to count ALL THE VOTES!!!!!
What about all those uncommitted voters who will be disenfranchised?????????

What? We don't know who they voted for? Well shit..it seems this game is screwed up. But we have to count ALL THE VOTES. Those people didn't haul their cookies all the way to vote without thinking they wouldn't count....oh wait.....

I was online before 10, waiting, waiting, waiting for the Registration page to go live. By the time I clicked through and filled out the info, the seats were already gone!

Definitely an organized effort to pack the house.

I'll watch on CSPAN and wait for Fluffer's live blog.

user-pic

Heh. Two organized efforts to pack the house, actually. We'll find out on Saturday who was more organized (or luckier, more likely.)

user-pic

You go, too, Redshift!

Look forward to your observations.

Surely, Hillary and Bill know that she can't win.

By continuing to play as if she can, they are taking down the Democratic party. This country (and the entire world) can't survive another four years of Republican incompetence and venality.

The fate of the nation is in the Clinton's hands.

The fate of the nation is in the Clinton's hands.

*VIOLENT shudder!*

Oh wait, look who I'm arguing with here...Gotalife! He (or she) who makes the braindead of the world look like Einstein.

Please, enlighten is more!

"I think we're moving toward half votes for everybody," DNC member Jon Ausman said of his appeal to be heard Saturday by the DNC's rules and bylaws committee. That would mean superdelegates would have the same vote as pledged delegates.

http://blogs.tampabay.com/buzz/2008/05/ausman-looks-li.html

If those with tickets are obnoxious and disruptive they'll simply clear the room. Of course then the protesters will link arms and start chanting. It's going to be a circus.

I expect them to at least shush the crowd a few times.

On its Web site, the Democratic National Committee has advised the public that โ€œin order to maintain the decorum of the meeting, banners, posters, signs, handouts, and noisemakers of any kind are strictly prohibited."

Anyone showing up like this is going to be a sporting match is going to be disappointed.

Oh man, I hope most or all of those tickets were taken up by Hillary supporters who, of course, have nothing else to do with their time. But to see them seething and sneering, then crying tears of malice over accusations of imagined, delusional sexism once the Rules Committee goes against what they want.

THAT is what I'm looking forward to seeing the most on Saturday.

Oy. I don't think I wanna see that. Too icky!

user-pic

Too Ickes?

Having supporters from either candidate to watch the meeting has disaster written all over it.

The MSM will be there in full force and Hillary will like nothing better than for her supporters to go nuts if things dont go her way so she could say to BO and the SD's, "My supporters are loyal and passionate. You cant get them without getting me." This would at the very least get BO to start rethinking Hillary as VP.

user-pic

Yes, because the quality you most want in a running mate is supporters who are loyal to her rather than to the party or the ticket.

No, the VP candidate who throws the biggest, most outrageous temper tantrum wins! At the count of 3, all the contenders may start holding their breath. 1, 2 . . .

user-pic

I'm not so sure. The more I cogitate on this, the more I think a circus has the potential to backfire on HRC big-time.

American's like their Law & Order TV shows and what they represent. They don't like the yellers in the back of the courtroom getting their way. At heart, we're a nation of laws and rules and I think most Americans Get It.

Every time this comes up, I can't help but play back Bill's "I'm for the little guy who plays by the rules" from his 1992 campaign. He was right then just as Obama is right now. Rules matter.

user-pic

What to you think an applicant for Presidential Food Taster would have to put on his resume?

user-pic

"Suicidal".

I think it would be a mistake to rally Obama supporters to counter the Clinton mob on the scene. It somehow makes the whole protest seem legitimate; the Clintons are masters of "us against them" politics.

The problem is the race is over.

The Clintons are desperately searching for an enemy after the fight. The media, sexists, some left-wing conspiracy, they'll take anything.

It's not us against them anymore. It's them trying to change the rules after the fact.

We shouldn't enable the Clintons narrative. It's over.

I would follow the Obama campaign's lead on this. They won't let an unfair decision come out of Saturday's meeting.

Exactly. Don't even legitimize these crazy fucks with a response. Ignore them and let them make fools out of themselves. Let them shout and disrupt the meeting - that should win them a lot of support.

user-pic

O I agree.

Playing her crappy game is a mistake.

Clinton out organized Obama and it is sold out.

She wins this issue.

Whine on whiners.

haha!

Maybe if these jackasses had shown the same enthusiasm toward caucuses that they do toward Bylaws-O-Rama, your candidate might've won.

If she did, it would be the first thing she out organized him at.

And it is still all for not. *tears*

user-pic

Your assertion that it's sold out because Clinton supporters got all the slots is as fact-free as all your other assertions.

The Clingons could'nt organize themselves out of a paper bag...If they succeed in packing the house they lose. The louder they scream the more the Supers will go the other way.

No.

What happened is that the Obama campaign is so organized they bought out all the tickets and are selling them back to HRC campaign to send them further in the red.

or they bought them all and will not distribute any of them.

There will not be an audience.

Franklyn,

Sorry, but the more obnoxious her supporters are on Saturday on camera, the more SD's will wonder why Clinton condones behavior like this. Loyal and passionate is one thing, but holding overnight vigils with candles and song like they were amassed around Lennon's grave is just plain creepy, particularly to the older generation.

Then when they get distruptive on camera, all of Hillary's remaining strands of hope for even a VP spot will be evaporated.

Hillary will be forgotten, especially if Obama decides to put Sebelius as his running mate. They'll have someone new to worship - a sane one this time!

+1

user-pic
This primary season is like a never ending root canal.

LOL!

That's the best analogy for this I've seen yet.

LMAO!

I always suspected you of having a realy huge sense of humor, gotalife. I suspected it when TrollCritic 3000 was on your ass and you kept up gamely.

Do check out Dan Schorr's commentary on this afternoon's 'Afternoon Edition' at the NPR site,,,, in a nutshell, Hillary, please smell the coffee.

i wont be surprised if Dean changes his mind and doesnt allow the media or the supporters in. This thing can get out of hand very quickly and if it does you can kiss the white house good bye.

user-pic

You know what really cracks me up?

It's when gotalife or his fellow Hillarybots pretend that it was a huge strategic blunder on Obama's part to take his name off the Michigan ballot.

Heh. They still haven't grasped the strategic brilliance of that move (why have your name on the ballot against another candidate with 100% name recognition in a state where you are not allowed to campaign if the vote isn't going to even count?) or they're being dishonest as usual. Aside from blocking Hillary from getting any believable spin from the Michigan vote, it also made it impossible to seat the delegates according to the vote - particularly since Hillary completely broke her pledge by having her campaign game the caucuses.

The model for this should be a court proceeding -- it's open to the public, and a very small number of well informed advocates for the respective parties should be allowed to make pitches to the deciding body. But if any observer disrupts, they're out on their ass; and any effort to affect the decisionmakers through intimidation of any kind is anathema.

Quite. Democratic, not chaotic.

user-pic

Hey cool!

It's great to have two people going - wow.

maybe gotalife can go wearing a blue dress so we can all see? snark

I don't think that's a snark. If it is, then it shouldn't be.

A Burkah would be more appropr...

"We're trying to flood it."

By pissing their pants.

How about 'mob' as in kangaroo? Works on so many levels, don't you think?

Seriously, these swine are going to "flood" the place with the intention of disrupting the meeting?

I'm going to start up a collection to buy the DC police some new tazers... good ones with lots of juice, like they use in the Big House.

Anyone remember Viet Nam? How about the self immolating Buddhist Monks? Hilly-Billy fans remind me of that. Burning themselves in protest seems so martyr like.

I'm gonna set up a stand hawking Metamucil and Depends diapers down there.

I'll be set for life.

You forgot the Viagra

what for, no one is going to be happy there.

"Massive fraudulent bluff" by the Clintons.

Obama already has some Michigan delegates:

"Now, everyone knows that there were 55 uncommitted delegates in Michigan. But what few seem to realize is that on April 19 in Michigan, the district conventions were held and Obama claimed 31 of the 36 uncommitted district-level delegates. He already has them."

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/5/23/8357/78578/512/520186

The Clinton surrogates at this meeting are going to attempt a street-corner con. Don't listen to the patter, watch the hands.

The Obama campaign once again out organized Hillary. They purchased all the tickets to the ByLawsO Drama and are selling them back to Hillary for Superdelegates.

Once Hillary spins off 100 Delegates for the audience tickets.

Obama becomes the nominee and the rulesandbylaw Drama O Rama rulings are meaningless.
