The New Magic Number: 2,210 Delegates

That's what Hillary spokesperson Howard Wolfson just argued on a conference call with reporters.

Previously the Hillary campaign had argued that 2,209 was the magic number. But if you add in the surprise election of Dem Travis Childers in last night's Mississippi special election, the new threshold for winning a majority of the overall delegates -- Florida and Michigan included, of course -- is 2,210.

So Wolfson argued, at any rate. Audio of the conference call soon.

Late Update: Here's the audio from the call:

What do these people have against playing by rules to which they agreed?

Playing by the rules means they lose. Besides, what does it mean for a person like Hillary to break her word or signed pledge? Obviously, not much.

I'm an Obama supporter, but how is it going to look when Obama breaks his "pledge" to accept public financing for the general election?

I'm afraid Republicans will use this same argument against Obama.

avatar

That is not exactly what Obama said. He never pledged not to totally, he left some wiggle room.

But your point stands. That doesn't meen I want Obama to go with public financing, but he will have to be careful about how he bows out of public financing.

He should probably bring in the 527s and say any pledge, as well as most campaign finance laws, are useless in the face of 527s and he will only agree to take public financing if McCain gets all the GOP 527s to swear off attack politics. Of course, as the swift boaters told us this morning, that will never happen.

Obama's response will be that he IS publicly financed - directly from the public.

Exactly. McCain has already shown himself either unwilling or unable to stop the 527s, so there's no deal.

Come on.

No one has done more for pledged delegates than Barack Obama.

You're right.

Nailed it.

No one has done more to earn the pledged delegate lead than Barack Obama.

Love the sentiment, loathe the design. If this wasn't done with Idiotic's blessing/partnership it's a seriously crap thing to do.

If you guys *are* in league together on this, let me please hook you up with a good designer - we can't reduce EXCELLENT NEWS to this.

it's an illness. they just can't help themselves.

LOLOLOL
It's like goalpost tourrets(sp?)

Greg, please accept my thanks, again, for listening in on these conference calls.

It must require a fair amount of self-control to not scream back "Are you effing kidding?" each time a new goalpost gets planted by the Clinton campaign.

On the other hand... everyone might be better off if no one at all listened to those conference calls.

avatar

And now for his next trick, ladies and gentlemen, Greg Sargent will sing while Howard Wolfson drinks a glass of water!

LOL

avatar

Stop this madness.

avatar

Ok, I guess the new Clinton motto is, "Fuck the Goalposts! Declare Victory and Get Out!"

Fuck the goalposts indeed. They have decided to play a mixed game of bocce and shuffleboard instead of football. And they're using Monopoly rules.

Completely coincidentally, I won exactly 2,210 delegates in last night's astounding West Virginian primary victory.

NARAL Pro-Choice America Endorsed Barack Obama:

I am pleased to announce that today, NARAL Pro-Choice America's political action committee endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president.

I know that most of you are probably thinking, "Why did you decide to endorse Obama, and why are you doing it now?"

Sen. Obama has been a strong advocate for a woman's right to choose throughout his career in public service. Since joining the Senate in 2005, he has worked to unite Americans on both sides of this debate behind commonsense, common-ground ways to prevent unintended pregnancy. He supports legislation to provide our teens with comprehensive sex education, prevent pharmacies from denying women access to their legal birth-control prescriptions, and increase access for family-planning services.

[snip]

Further, I believe Sen. Obama is going to be the Democratic nominee. He leads in pledged delegates, superdelegates, the popular vote, and cash-on-hand. As a former elected official, I know that having the three "m's" of a campaign - money, message and manpower (or womanpower!) - are how we win elections. Sen. Obama will be our next president.

God, these people are insufferable. But, again, I don't think too many people are falling for their crap anymore - I really don't. Even the media is starting to call them out on their bullshit. Terry McAuliffe is just plain batshit crazy and Wolfson is like John Lovitz on SNL (Tommy Flanagan, the Pathological Liar), "yeah, that's the ticket". Pathetic!

We're sending agricultural specialists to Baghdad instead of Afghanistan? Oops!

ABCNews.com - "Obama Gaffes on Iraq and Afghanistan," by David Wright and Eloise Harper:

"Obama posited — incorrectly — that Arabic translators deployed in Iraq are needed in Afghanistan — forgetting, momentarily, that Afghans don't speak Arabic. … No sooner did Obama realize his mistake — and correct himself — but he immediately made another. 'We need agricultural specialists in Afghanistan, people who can help them develop other crops than heroin poppies, because the drug trade in Afghanistan is what is driving and financing these terrorist networks … ," he said. … 'But if we are sending them to Baghdad, they're not in Afghanistan,' Obama said. … In Iraq, oil fields not poppy fields are a major source of U.S. technical assistance."

Otto, boy, you're really reaching today, aren't you? ;)

Is that the same kind of "misstatement" as saying again and again that you dodged sniper fire in Bosnia, when you clearly didn't?

That's a rhetorical question, by the way.

Yeah, because the Euphrates river valley (which is where Baghdad is located) in Iraq doesn't produce all the agriculture in the country and most of the agriculture in the region.

Grab a clue.

Figures.

He is not even close to being ready for the Presidency of our country.

So why does her surrogates suggest that she should be his VP?

Totally GL - Just because everyone votes for him is does not make him the leader.

I think you'd 150%(!) that a democratic

Interestingly, Otto left this part out from the article:

Bill Burton, Obama campaign spokesperson, disputes this report, writing in to say, "This poorly researched and written piece is inaccurate in that it just completely ignores the need for Arabic translators in Afghanistan, and the need for agricultural specialists in Iraq. It is irresponsible to report such issues so matter-of-factly without checking out the actual facts. Please reference these very simple and easy to find websites to learn more about these issues: on the need for agricultural specialists in Iraq; and on the foreign fighters in Afghanistan.

Hillary's InTrade numbers dropped to 8.3% (from I think 9%) after her win in WV - pretty clear indicator as to just how convincing these idiots are, huh? They are fooling no one.

You're ignoring the fact that 8.3% is significantly higher than 9%.

Not to mention way higher than Senator Obama's 90.4%.

LOLOLOL! ;)

Her number is 8 now... which, I suppose, as a "billarism" (Clin-tone) = more than 91+%.

Imagine the educational system under hillary? All would qualify for mental illness, due to logic being so perverted.

8 sideways is infinity. C'mon Hillary!!!

You keep making my day (over & over & over again).

Thank you.

;-)

LOL. I will really miss you after BO nomination.

(OK, ready for your blowback)

It works like golf. Didn't anyone get the memo? Obama clearly is losing with his huge numbers.

Question: While we are disecting the latest round of Clinton stupidity is McCain having another of his Senior Moments? If he is, how would we know?

I can't wait for Hillary to get out of this race.

Just to play devil's advocate: perhaps it's best that we don't play the dementia card too early. Just like the Wright nontroversy has been played out, we don't want to play out McCain's dementia.

Well, needling him about his age problem might goad him into his rage problem. Could start an Angry Old Man loop....that could get us through the summer and we could start fresh on policy issues after the convention.

Anything along these lines has to be very incidental so that the viewing public feels like they're the ones making this connection and that it's not being shoved down their collective throats.

Something tells me that Wolf Blitzer and friends don't have much practice in the art of restraint. If they smell blood (and even if they don't), they'll be all over it for all it's worth and then some. The real question is who will be paying attention as this campaign drags itself into the fall.

CORRECTION: the new magic number is not 2,210, its 1,379,902. Half of which Hillary got last night in WV and the other half she will get in KY. OR doesnt count because it belongs to Canada.

Does that mean Washington and Idaho also belong to Canada?

If not that is one funky noncontiguous border with part of their country inside another one.

;-)

"Blame Canada!"

2,210? What happened to 2,025?

Game back on!

Clinton! WOOT!

2,210? What happened to 2,025?
Nothing.

Your GBCW lasted all of what - 2 hours? Jeevus, dude - Goiterlife lasted longer than that.

Crap. I missed this buffoon's GBCW speech?

Hillary Clinton will end up being another BUSH in the White House. He didn't follow the law or rules -- in fact he made his own up. NOW LOOK WHO'S MAKING HER OWN RULES IN THE CAMPAIGN.

In fact, somebody ought to research Hillary's previous comments about Bush not following the LAW or RULES or using the special rules pen. Feed them back at her.

With FL, MI and KY this is still a race.

If Clinton pulls an all-nighter in Oregon all bets are off.

avatar

And if Bill pulls an all nighter at Hooters, then everything will be back to normal.

Guess what?

It's O-V-E-R!

Shrillary LOST (emphasis on PAST tense).

I don't know, Clinton and a supposed lack of sleep led to Snipergate. If Clinton pulls an all-nighter, she's going to start telling stories about the time she saved Middle Earth.

LOL

If you are hanging your hopes on Oregon going for Clinton you are going to need this at around 8:01 PM PST on May 20th.

Wow that number is magic - it has the rare ability to be different anytime the magician Clinton calls for it to be.

OOOoooo AAahhhh

We should just make the number = infinity. Or at least +100 more than Obama has.

avatar

Hillary's Magic Number is now Three,

In Testicular Math!

[big grin]

This is "magic number" as in "magic thinking", right?

Interestingly, Otto left this part out:

Bill Burton, Obama campaign spokesperson, disputes this report, writing in to say, "This poorly researched and written piece is inaccurate in that it just completely ignores the need for Arabic translators in Afghanistan, and the need for agricultural specialists in Iraq. Sorry for the double post, this was meant in a reply to Otto.

I think this would be an appropriate time for a quote from "Blazing Saddles":

"Oh, blow it out your ass, Howard."

All these number games from the Crazy Clinton Campaigners is stupid just on one front: No matter how many times they change what the numbers will be the Clinton's are still behind. Don't they get that? No one can be this stupid.

avatar

Pull an all-nighter? What, is she going to win this election with a term paper?

Sorry, dude, there is nothing Hillary can do to win Oregon. She had a better chance in North Carolina, and we all know how that worked out...

Look at her schedule (and that of Bill and Chelsea) and Obama and you will know how realistic the Clinton's chances are at winning here in Oregon.

None.

avatar

tpm channeling Clinton-Wolfson ... in other words, tpm is doing just what I thought it would never do: become part of the msm echo chamber

Obama never pledged or signed anything about taking public funding. He said he was open to discuss it with McSame's camp. And at this point,. with McCain already violating public financing rules as we speak, that is a can of worms the GOP will rue should the open it back up.

WHy do you think we haven't heard a single whisper of it since McSame broke throw the spending cap over a month ago?

avatar

Does anyone care what she says the magic number is? No. The media has had enough of it, so it is over, they aren't playing her games anymore.

avatar

Hey let's go run Hilary for President of Columbia, maybe Bill can cover her campaign debts by recommending Free Trade Agreements to Nort Korea....When life long Politicians run for office they have no rules...they make them up as they go...winnning is all important. It's time for the Clinton's to disappear. What they are doing should scare the heck out of all Americans.

avatar

Oregon belongs to Canada? And possibly Washington as well?

Good news to my ears. It'd be the rationale to vote NDP I've been trying to find for years.

The "lead" in popular vote counts votes in MI and FL, but none in IA, ME, NV and WA (those caucus states don't report vote totals). So the logic is that we should count all the votes from the two states who had primaries that didn't count but no votes from four states who had caucuses that did count. Riiiight.

I have it on good authority that the Clinton campaign has retained a group of top mathematicians to come up with a new formula by which she wins. It will probably include cosines and logarithms and the square root of Chelsea Clinton's hat size.
