Right-Wing Group Pushes Funny Faux-Enviro Ad In Colorado Senate Race
Check out this funny ad from a group called Coloradans for Economic Growth, promoting Republican candidate Bob Schaffer in the state's top-tier Senate race. The ad attempts to sell the right-wing Schaffer to voters concerned about the environment:
It would appear that what business interests think environmentalist voters want to see is ... a bunch of flowery images in what otherwise looks like a Nasonex commercial.

Ugh. That was visually obnoxious.

Note the Prius at the end. If they threw in a couple of trust fund babies drinking lattes and wearing birkenstocks they'd have nailed every Obama voter!

I must be the target audience. I liked that ad.
Then again, I like ipod commercials and Target commercials too.
And I'll eat the craziest things Fast Food puts out if they can make it look good on TV....

Well, that was just... weird.
It looks like he's trying to appeal to the Boulder Birkenstock crowd, but that ain't going to fly. It would be about as likely as David Duke endorsing Obama.
I guess it's probably geared to soccer moms who recycle, trying to appeal to their soft and squishy side, like a nice biodegradable tissue for when the Nasonex doesn't work.

It is a little bland, but it's effective in the way animation is: it provides ideas and action. I don't know Schaffer's record, but this ad ties pretty much every available environmental cliche together. And cliches deliver recognizable messages to lots of people.

Visual candy: all calories and no substance. The fonts were weird, and the black-backed psychedelic swirls superimposed on the Prius left me feeling embarrassed for everyone involved.
Maybe that's the real angle: Sympathy. It's just incongruous enough to fit this freaky puzzle.

Haven't seen that racing orange as a Prius color option before this ad

Yes, this ad is definitely a confused poke into the environmentalist darkness with a very odd stick. I couldn't tell if it was being sarcastic, and needed to read the article to understand what was going on.
Ok, right wing pro-environment movement, here's a note: Priuses don't idle. It is eerily quiet when in a stationary position. The engine also sounds like a very old Volkswagen. Research, people!
