Pro-Hillary 527's Spending On Anti-Obama Indiana Ad Now Tops $1 Million

The American Leadership Project -- the 527 put together by big Hillary-backing unions and major donors -- sank another $200,000 today into the ad they're running in Indiana attacking Obama on the economy, ALP spokesperson Jason Kinney just confirmed to me.

That brings the total spent on the ad to $1.1 million, Kinney says.

The initial buy on the ad was $700,000. The group dumped another $220,000 into the buy yesterday, and added the $200,000 more today.

Kinney says today's spending was designed to beef up the ad's rotation in the Indianapolis market.

The massive total expenditure -- by far the group's biggest buy yet -- underscores yet again the extent to which Hillary allies view Indiana as an absolute must-win.

Money could have gone to a lot better use than this tripe.

Kudos to Clinton!
His lying, hypocritical ass is in a Sling!

Hey Present, you ass--get rid of the quotes in your username so we can call you an ass, OK?

Money well spent in my opinion and great timing now that Obama is down (and maybe with a push, also out). It is good to see folks pushing some ads on Clinton's behalf. Doing this separate from Clinton gives them more flexibility on what they address and gives her some distance, if needed.

Maybe the ad isn't cutting edge enough, though, as it is not stirring up the media and getting free media play. Where's a link?

The reason they are doing it this way is not for flexibility, it is so they can skirt campaign finance laws.

But so what? It is not like the GOP won't be doing this in the fall, the GOC might as well do it as well.

"Money well spent in my opinion and great timing now that Obama is down (and maybe with a push, also out)."

All the money in the world won't push Obama from his insurmountable lead. Thoughts?

Obama has leads but they are not insurmountable. If he loses both NC and IN, the momentum will help Clinton increase her margins in the remaining states. Next, she needs to get the FL delegates seated in full based on the vote, plus in MI, her share, plus 50/50 of the remainder, else make them at-large deleages. This then gives her excellent chance at delegate lead and she's really tied or leading in votes now and surely will if Obama loses IN and NC. But really, I think it is all very close.

Still, it is going to be the superdelegates that decide the nomination and I don't put much weight in who they say they vote for now as nothing stops them from changing their mind. The original intent was to give a last minute check on the selection to ensure that the party gets the most electable candidate. Clinton gains an excellent argument in this if she shows a winning streak through the remaining states (especially if Obama can't shake his character problems, such as Wright).

What do you see as the impact if Clinton comes close (say within 5%) or even wins NC?

Matthew

The impact of Clinton coming close (or pulling out a win, even) is that she'll be able to raise money and the media will have something to talk about. That's about it.

More lies from the Obamanoids. His lead is far from insurmountable. The superdelegates will put her on top and save us from defeat in the fall.

You do understand that pushing Obama out pushes out the black vote and all of the young voters Obama has brought to the party, right? If Obama is pushed out, president McCain will be hounding your sorry ass for the next four years. And you'll deserve it.

avatar

Completely ridiculous end-around campaign finance laws. She has no shame.

avatar

And we can all thank McCain.

Well, and Feingold. That was rather short-sighted, in hindsight.

Greg- good word choice. Like a sinking ship. Maybe you're not a shill after all...

A fool and his money...

avatar

LOL! Keep dreaming Weaver

avatar

Another must win for Hillary, even though she's been winning since March.

avatar

Winning the final innings doesn't wipe out the runs your opponent scored in earlier innings.

You didn't get the Hillary campaign memo? It clearly points out that delegates earned before Ohio are worth 1/2, and every delegate since is worth double. Come on, keep up.

avatar

And black votes are only worth 2/3 of white votes?

I'm kidding, but it really wouldn't surprise me at this point.

avatar

Three-fifths

I thought it was all over on Feb 5.

True, since that Mississippi primary on March 11, she's on a winning streak of

one.

avatar

Don't forget; she won Texas.

Only she didn't.

avatar

Do we know the people involved? They should have had to file already.

avatar

It's Obama versus the corporate cronies!

It's Obama versus the corporate cronies!

a/k/a - the DLC.

avatar

The DLC - The same as the GOP but we pretend to be pro life.

yeah, when we're talking to a pro-life group we pretend.

when we aren't - choice becomes evil.

It's all about the children, you see. Any time a politician starts shedding crocodile tears over "the children" you need to know that your pocket is about to be picked.

avatar

I mistyped. Sometimes things don't come out the way they were meant to.

If Hillary is on such a tidal wave of momentum, why is more money being spent?

avatar

Exactly. Why can't she put him away? She was coronated in 2007.

If it just weren't for those pesky kids...

She doesn't have to "put him away".
He is doing a great job with that, himself.

Excellent.

Crush him in Indiana.

Then in North Carolina.

Right. The pledged delegate difference won't budge, though. That one nasty little reality that just won't go away.

Hey, but if by chance Clinton steals the nomination from Obama? That will be the campaign slogan for the Republicans: The only reason that Hillary was able to run for President is because her campaign stole the nomination. Hillary: a liar and a cheater.

And those high negatives your candidate has are going to skyrocket. Best candidate, my ass.

Never mind that you can kiss the most solid part of our base, African Americans, goodbye. We've been treating them like shit for years, and expecting them to show up and vote anyway. This would be the icing on the cake. Still, no one wants to talk about that. At least the super-delegates seem to realize it, though.

Consider the vote fraud scandal and John Podesta, among other Clintonites, being involved steal is the correct goddamn word.

The Clinton campaign has been involved in dirty vote suppression tricks all over the place.

I think this story will explode and get bigger because someone was fucking around down here before our conventions with robo calls and emails with false information.

I hope this opens up and we get to finally see the totality of what that scum who run that campaign have been up to, with the help, I have no doubt, of Mary Matalin and her connections to Karl Rove.

avatar

exactly. can't wait to see hillary kick the empty suit's ass.

avatar

I can't wait until she's pissed off the rest of the Middle East. She's already got Iran angry at her.

avatar

Not happening, no matter what her plutocrats do.

avatar

I thought the Clintonite party line after PA was "see, spending a lot on ads doesn't work". I guess it's the same kind of logic as states that count and states that don't.

No, you miss the point, you've got to have a winning candidate and message in order for the spending to work. Obama didn't in PA and it showed. Clinton has everything going in her favor for IN.

Matthew

avatar

So what you are saying is that Hillary is just like George W Bush?

That sounds about right.

What logic?

The Campaign for the Restoration is anti-logic - it's one long unbirthday party for HillAlice.

I've said this before, but it always bears saying -

gotalife, I'm ever so glad you see things exactly opposite of how I do.

That's how I know I'm right.

avatar

how about you take your english degree and shove it.

why don't you come and try that face to face instead of hiding behind the internet like the whining little cowardly bitch you are?

avatar

How 'bout you go home and beat your wife, who also happens to be your sister you toothless 'tard.

She has a bs degree.

Yeah and half the Dems know I am right.

We want win this time.

You think it is about you, the me generation but is about billions in the world.

Too big for a rookie to deal with.

avatar

Who are you calling a rookie you half wit?

If you really want a win don't go with Hillary, having her name on the ticket will drive up GOP turnout like nothing else.

Or course, what you probably mean is that you want a win for McSame.

avatar

Motherfucker, the Baby Boomers are the most wasteful and worthless generation to hold the reins of power in America in a very long time. Most of them have done nothing worthwhile, and most of their 'good' causes were started and led by someone older than them.

Don't you dare try to pin our current shitstorm on my generation. We're the ones who will have to clean up after the current worthless shitbags in Washington.

We are going to run over you whiners of the me generation.

Obama lost the whites with Wright and they are not coming back.

He has done nothing in the Senate and will not even hold hearings for his committee on a freaking war in Afghanistan.

He should not be in the Senate.

avatar

He has done a lot more in the Senate than Hillary has, and he hasn't been there nearly as long.

avatar

If your generation can't be assed to fix Social Security, I'm going to vote to slash your benefits when you've retired and we're the ones in charge.

avatar

negative ads are so last century

Hillary's negativity is such a total turn-off to me. As the NYT said, she's taking the low road to victory. It's bad for the Democrats. Once the spotlight fades from Obama and goes back on her, her "baggage" will seem far more significant.

She's taking the low road, but there will be no victory.

I really hope this group goes down in flames after the FEC gets back on it's feet.

I am surprised how many Clinton ssupportes think this is a fair strategy. But I assume they think SwiftBoat Veterans for Truth was fair, too.

Say what? What's fair about Vote Caging or any thing else they have done? That's stupid, considering it's being investigated because it's illegal.

Plus - that's just Karlsburg, BushLand.

avatar
No, you miss the point, you've got to have a winning candidate
Is that what you call a primary candidate whose streak of states won in a row currently stands at the awesome figure of... one? I love Clinton logic.
avatar

Why do conservative front groups always use "American" in their title?

"Leadership" is common, too.

I think the old rule probably applies: if you have to broadcast your patriotism and leadership, you're probably not strong on either point.

My All Time Favorite wack rightwingnuts group name:

The American Eagle Forum.

it just doesn't get any better, IMO.

Don't forget about "Project for a New American Century"! They should have just called it the "Cheney Cabal for American World Domination"

It was NeoCon Central over there:
Elliott Abrams - Gary Bauer - William J. Bennett - Jeb Bush - Dick Cheney - Eliot A. Cohen - Midge Decter - Paula Dobriansky - Steve Forbes - Aaron Friedberg - Francis Fukuyama - Frank Gaffney - Fred C. Ikle - Donald Kagan - Zalmay Khalilzad - I. Lewis Libby - Norman Podhoretz - Dan Quayle - Peter W. Rodman - Stephen P. Rosen - Henry S. Rowen - Donald Rumsfeld - Vin Weber - George Weigel - Paul Wolfowitz

(f-ing morons)

An Iranian dissident blogger wrote this yesterday:

Many Iranians are obsessed with Barack Obama. If he goes to Iran, I'm sure he could fill Tehran's Azadi Stadium, which has a capacity of 100,000. To a large extent this is because of the nature of Obama's message about change and hope. Iranian people truly want to change their situation, get rid of decades of marginalization and restore their reputation in the world. They feel connected to his message of change. They are tired of living under the threat of economic sanctions and military attacks. Obama's remark about initiating a dialogue with Iran translated for many Iranians into hopes of normalizing the relationship between the countries and Iran rejoining the international community.

Hillary Clinton said this last week:

"I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran," Sen. Clinton said. "In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."

avatar

Between McCain and Clinton, I truly think Clinton is more likely to start a war with Iran, because she'll cave in to pressure for political reasons. McCain, I'm pretty sure, wouldn't include domestic politics in his calculations the way she would.

Right now, there are crisis meetings being held within the Democratic Party leadership, as the Party tries to figure out a way to drive the zombie candidate, She-Who-Will-Not-Die out of the race. This is not good. Here's where a little leadership would have helped.

Come on.

No one has done more for 527s than Barack Obama.
