Obama Rollout Of Super-Dels Begins
The rollout begins.
The Obama camp is announcing some more super-delegate endorsements today, a first step in a process that they hope will end the nomination fight in a relatively short time.
The new super-dels are: DNC member Inola Henry of California, North Carolina party chair Jerry Meek, and North Carolina DNC member Jeanette Council, who'd first announced her support yesterday to a local newspaper.
This will bring Hillary's lead among super-delegates to less than 15.

Yep, here we go. Come on, folks, lets get on board and help Senator Clinton ease out gracefully...
May 7, 2008 2:49 PM | Reply | Permalink
I agree. Let's be gracious here. Gloating over Hillary's impending concession doesn't help heal the party, and let's be honest, our nominee really could use the help of her and her supporters to win in November.

I second that Carol. But you know what, I was thinking, Hillary proved herself to be pretty useful to Obama. Listen, I know that her argument about "toughening Obama up" is utter horseshit, she tried shamelessly smear a fellow democrat for her own benefit. But the one positive aspect coming out of Hillary's campaign is that the Wright and Ayers non-stories are already out there.

Tell you what? First sign I get from her that she's looking to ease out gracefully, graciously, then I'll be more inclined to making her exit one she can make with the grace she's so far refused to exhibit.

I don't know what we're doing :(
Is there somewhere that there would be a running tally of which superdels have declared today and for who? I'm seeing some mentioned in this article, some in the other article, another in an article in another site that I'm not sure overlaps... it's all a bit confusing.

I was elated this morning and now Clinton is pissing me off all over again.
I could say something very crude here, and I'm sorely tempted. Let's just hope he's not lonely in PR. I'm sure he's just gone ahead to set things up for Hillary.

Just as people have been predicting, they're going to roll them out a few at a time so as not to look like they're piling on. I continue to be very, very impressed by how astutely this campaign is run. They never do anything that's not carefully thought out.
May 7, 2008 3:02 PM | Reply | Permalink
I know, I thought the whole 50 block of yesterday was gonna be so badass but they were so much smarter to roll them out one or two at a time, always steady against the bad press and against Clinton SD's. They are realllly good at this.
May 7, 2008 3:12 PM | Reply | Permalink
If he just dropped a block of 50-75 superdels at once though, he wouldn't have to deal with half the shit that's going to be slung over the next 4 weeks. Do you really think she's going to let up? She might, but I wouldn't put it past her to keep digging.
May 7, 2008 3:19 PM | Reply | Permalink
Yeah, a steady stream keeps the favorable press rolling in and it'll off-set the losses in WV and KY.
May 7, 2008 3:22 PM | Reply | Permalink
No, I don't think she will and that's why it's better to let them combat her a little at a time, as he has been doing all along. Dropping, say, fifty right now won't win him the nomination, so why waste it?

They want to avoid making it look like they're letting the superdelegates decide it before the voters do. Now they can release them at a slightly faster pace.
May 7, 2008 5:13 PM | Reply | Permalink
If true, your suggested method is much better than what I envision.
I keep having nightmares that it'll come down to a "Survivor" style ending:
The host will come forward in a shroud of darkness and while unfolding a large piece of paper quietly say "Obama" or "Hillary". This will go on 200+ times while consuming 4 hours of TV time (1.5 hours of which will be commercials).

Is my math any good?
Ok, let's go with the 2,209 delegate threshold:
1. Obama has 1,844.5 delegates.
2. 2,209 - 1,844.5 = 364.5 left to pick up.
3. FL sits based on vote. 211*.33%(BO vote tally) = 69.63 or 69.
4. 364.5 - 69 = 295.5.
5. MI splits 50/50 - 171/2 = 85.5 or 85.
6. 295.5 - 85 = 210.5.
7. 217 pledged delegates left. 100 to BO, 117 to HRC.
8. 210.5 - 100 = 110.5.
9. 270 supers left. Split 50/50 = 135.
10. 110.5 - 135 = -24.5 or BO has a surplus of 24.5!
HILLARY HAS NO CHANCE EVEN WITH HER FUZZY MATH!
