Obama Raised Over $31 Million In April
Just as Hillary begins her victory speech in Kentucky, the Obama campaign's April fundraising numbers land in our inbox.
Obama raised $31 million last month for the primary, with an additional $600,000 for the general election. Other numbers:
New donors in April: 200,00094% of contributions were under $200
93% of contributions were $100 or less
77% of contributions were $50 or less
52% of contributions were $25 or less
Number of donors to the Obama campaign overall at the end of April: 1.475 million
Number of contributions given: 2,929,000 million
Average donation: $91
Cash on Hand: $37.3 million (plus an additional $9.2 million for the general election)
McCain raised $18 million in April, a little over half of Obama's haul. No hard numbers yet from Hillary.

THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS!! FOR HILLARY!!!

And he's still getting trounced.
Why can't he win?
May 20, 2008 9:04 PM | Reply | Permalink
He is winning. But being a Clinton supporter, I would certainly understand how all the standards of victory your candidate has proffered could confuse you.
I mean, when she claims it's about popular vote, vote in states that she said wouldn't count, projected electoral votes, votes in states that "matter", primary-only states, states with "hard-working" Americans, states that don't have too large an African-American population, states that Dems "need in the fall", "big states"...how could you be blamed for forgetting that it's all about the delegates?

Good luck trying to school "present" on anything here. This guy has been hiding behind his hacked-in "reply" button for a long time out of fear that we would expose his pitiful comments. He is the pure definition of a troll. In his sad little world, up is down. Actually he reminds me of the Roman philosopher Pliny, who refused to believe the evidence of even his own eyes.In short this guy is a yellow-livered coward who has nothing constructive to contribute to this site other than his skewed, dishonest comments.

I was actually just wondering earlier today why we never heard April's numbers. I'm going to guess Hillary's was somewhere close to McCain's, and after you factor in debt I bet she is still way in the red.

BILLARY LENDS ITSELF ANOTHER $20 MILLION!!!
May 20, 2008 8:29 PM | Reply | Permalink
Serious question. How do they know which monies go to which? GE vs. primary? Example: I have donated many times to Obama, where did they show that money?
May 20, 2008 8:31 PM | Reply | Permalink
I'm assuming they put it toward the primary until you hit your 2300, and then start piling it on the general side.

Yep.

Other than, "I'm dropping out and supporting Senator Clinton in the fall"?

Anyway, the reason I ask is Josh is on the front page losing it over the Kennedy news. So he just gets up there and blurts it all out, huh? Stuff nobody gives a shit about what HE thinks? Is it ya set up a site with some stupid slobs willing to think hard for free, and he blabs on and on, crying all over himself with nobody saying there's something important happening here, asshole. Get on the stick. Okay. Nice work.

When are we going to get the speech from Hillary when she insists that her supporters start being a bit more gracious toward the Obama voters?
Personally, I'm not holding my breath...
May 20, 2008 8:37 PM | Reply | Permalink
I think that is the likely descriptor for Clinton's haul even when the solid totals come out.

Outspent her drastically but she still wins. What a waste of money. Poor MSNBC is having a melt down like that kook on CNN.
Great speech by the fighter Clinton.

Given that he didn't spent a lot in KY and focused on OR and the general election instead, yes, I'd say it was very well spent.

Just a question, will Josh, Greg and other echo-masters in this chamber care to report that SUSA has Clinton winning over McCain in NC? And Obama losing? In NC... of all places. Who's the map changer?
May 20, 2008 8:46 PM | Reply | Permalink
Why? We already have SurveyUSA showing Obama cleaning McCains's clock in PA today.
May 20, 2008 8:49 PM | Reply | Permalink
What do you mean: why?
Oh, I forget, you pick the polls you like.
May 20, 2008 8:54 PM | Reply | Permalink
No, the question is why you think it holds some telling insight given that the PA polling destroys the long pushed (and false notion that Obama can't win PA and thus allows Obama the freedom to focus on states like NC and VA to work for them.
And aren't you doing precisely what you are trying to hassle TPM for?
May 20, 2008 9:00 PM | Reply | Permalink
And to TPM's credit, i don't think either was it's own thread - the breathless sense of polling seems to have passed at last.
Users, of course, are welcome to point either out.
But let's be serious, Lalo - you're not really asking why. You know why perfectly well.

As much as I like Hillary, I have to hand it to the guy. He runs a good campaign and the fundraising is unprecedented.
If Obama ends up the nominee, I'll stand with my fellow Democrats in working hard to help him get to the white house. I promise this.

Ah we need some good news today. Good fund raising totals for Obama, CNN is reporting he won the pledged delegate race. Woot!
On the bad side, Hillary is still spewing bs, Teddy Kennedy has a brain tumor (this saddens me waaay more than I ever thought it would and I think his relationship with Obama makes it even more so.), Obama is getting another shellacing in KY and Hamilton Jordan has now passed away.
I am hoping between the fund raising, a rousing Obama speech and a Hillary shellacing in Oregon and most importantly, winning the pledged delegates -I will be well cheered by the end of the night.
GoBama.
ps - the faux goatlife is also cheering me up. Way to go hacker - you rock.

I love these numbers - 94% of the donations are under %200.
May 20, 2008 10:27 PM | Reply | Permalink
So let's see...
$55 Million in February
$40 Million in March and
$30 Million for February
At this rate of decline he could roughly reach parity with Clinton this month. It would be interesting to see how well he did in a potential swing state if he couldn't outspend Clinton on advertising by a 2- or 3-to-1 ratio. Who's up next after KY and OR?
May 20, 2008 11:57 PM | Reply | Permalink
Oops, I meant $30 Million for April (in case it wasn't obvious). It's also interesting that McCain just had his best fundraising month of the campaign so far.
