Obama Gets First Super-Dels This Morning

As he inches his way closer and closer to the nomination, Barack Obama starts off the morning with the first super-delegates announced today.

Obama was endorsed by three supers from Hawaii: State party chair Brian Schatz, vice chair Kari Luna, and newly selected add-on delegate James Burns, a retired judge.

The latest total delegate numbers, according to DemConWatch: Obama 1,976, Clinton 1,779. Obama only needs 50 more delegates to clinch the nomination, not counting Michigan and Florida.

Inches?

Leaps, springs, gambols toward the finish line, I would say. Let's hope the Superdels all suddenly grow a pair and put a stop to this instead of hiding under the couch like they've been doing. After this weekend you'd think they would.

You've misunderstood me. I'm not complaining. I'm merely expressing surprise. According to the (apparently outdated) script I was sent, Obama should be sashaying closer to the nomination at this point. Inching isn't until next week. Nevermind gamboling, which I don't see mentioned in the stage directions anywhere until well after we've been seated at the Pepsi Center. Someone needs to get back to me about this. What a mess.

Eric's on a roll today....

he still thinks Hillary can win!

49. He needs 17% of the remaining delegates. Senator Clinton needs just under 86%.

Time for my favorite line from this election cycle, compliments of Vince F:

THIS IS GREAT NEWS FOR HILLARY CLINTON!!

I don't understand why this post needs the "Michigan & Florida" qualification. Michigan and Florida don't count until the DNC says they do. So there's no reason to even mention them.

Let's see them continue to inch their way out from under their couches as the work week continues and they can get a lot more attention than on a holiday weekend. It would be great news for Hillary to know that the election was sewn up before the MI FL meeting on the 31st.

So, what is her argument to the superdelgates now? She's already thoroughly banged the drum on the electoral college, the popular vote, the big states and the hard-working whites and it hasn't had any effect on the tide of delegates heading toward Obama. What has she got left?

This may be why the press jumped on the RFK crack this time around - it has finally sunk in that the only reason that she is still hanging around is just in case something 'unfortunate' happens her opponent (Not that they want anything really BAD to happen, mind you. Goodness no).

Theoretically, all 796 superdelegates can change their minds before they vote in Denver.

It is just a matter of Hillary turning on her charm and convincing them to do so.

But when it comes to charm----her name is not Monica or Gennifer.

Theoretically, Clinton can be a charmer; but that is just a theory not really seen in the real world.

She is not going to give up. When he crosses the delegate threshold, it won't matter. Even if giving her Florida and Michigan still gave him the most delegates, she won't give up. She'll ride this to the convention and go down in the long run as one of the most despised political candidates in history for making it harder for the Dems to win.

I hope New York gives her the boot when she comes back up for election again.
