New Ad Hits Colorado Senate Candidate Bob Schaffer On Forced Abortions

Attack ads are common in politics, but it's not everyday that a spot ties a conservative candidate in a key race to forced abortions -- in this case involving TPMmuckraker "star" Bob Schaffer and the Marianas sweatshops.

This new third-party ad in the open Colorado Senate race was created by pro-campaign finance reform group Campaign Money Watch, and is set to air in the socially conservative Colorado Springs media market over the next two weeks. Its emphasis on the forced abortions in the Marianas seems clearly designed to alienate Schaffer from the GOP's Christian conservative base:

"Schaffer was supposed to be investigating sweatshops, where women workers were forced to have abortions," the voiceover says. "But he says, 'I did not observe a forced abortion.'"

"Did he look the other way?"

All sorts of good news out of my state today. Udall being all smart, then his Republican opponent getting the truth all handed to him. It's a good day. :-)

I cast my delegate vote for Mark Udall at the Jeffco convention. I hope he steamrolls Schaffer.

Then we need to get Bruce Benson outta CU.

Man, oh man, I can't wait until this blog goes back to being Democratic and spends its time pointing out that conservatives have been grinding our country into the mud for 7 years.

Is it over yet?

Oopss....lol!

It is good news!

They dug in because of the Air Force Academy and base and it's been a disaster - politically, for y'all. And for everyone - they are turning the air force brass in to raging evangelicals. It's scary.

Colorado Springs is a terrible place. I'm up in Boulder and I'd feel significantly less comfortable here were it not for the big buffer that Denver blessedly provides between the two. Seriously, if there's another civil war in this country, the new Mason-Dixon will run just south of D-town.

"..he says, 'I did not observe a forced abortion."

WTF? Did he observe consensual ones?

Ouch! That going to leave a mark.

Down here in NM, Udall's cousin Tom has no primary opposition but the R's are battling it out. A Pearc ad claims Heather Wilson is too liberal because she voted for "socialist health care" (SCHIP) and missing votes on key issues. She's responded with ads accusing him of missing key votes as well and not being a "common sense" conservative. That seems to be the new "compassionate" conservative. We all know how that worked out.

But its good times right now and both of them are on Melanie Sloan's 22 Most Corrupt List. Udall is a well know commodity here in NM and even in the more conservative southern part of the state is well respected. With Bill Richardson behind him and a great fundraising advantage so far he looks pretty well positioned to take Domenici's old seat!

Lotsa Udalls in the West. Mo Udall was a congressman from AZ when I was a kid down there. His brother Stewart was JFK's Secy of the Interior.

I'd also point to Tom and Mark's Republican cousin, Sen. Gordon Smith of Oregon.

Folks, if you don't like Shaffer, you'd better not make Hillary the nominee.

Udall would tell you the same after a couple Fat Tires.

More proof that Westerners like Texans and Oregonians are not racist like folk east of the Big Muddy. Let's hear from Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and Arizona!
