Tough New MoveOn Ad Demands McCain Fire Lobbyist Charlie Black
MoveOn, a major Obama supporter, goes up with this tough new ad attacking McCain's ties to lobbyist Charlie Black...
The ad, which is pretty vivid and arresting, paints Black's client list as a kind of global murderer's row of tinpot dictators and thugs.
The spot is running on national cable, which suggests that it's partly intended for media and political insiders. It's perhaps an effort to gain some free media, to keep reporters in the hunt on the McCain-lobbyists story, and to get pundits to stop reflexively granting McCain reformer credentials.

This is completely unfair to McCain.
If he gets rid of all the lobbyists in his campaign staff, he won't have campaign staff any more. How can he run a campaign without his staff?

Not to mention the dent to his "social" life.

Dang, I was too slow to get here and everybody already jumped all over that one.
;)
As if the media is going to reverse itself now, since that's who hung the Maverick and Straight Shooter signs around McWar's neck in the first place.

That phrasing demonstrates the sneaky dry humor Greg has.
Not to talk about you like you're not here, or anything, Greg...

very sneaky.
I get the feeling he laughs his ass off at us for misinterpreting him more often than not.

Yeah. Sometimes I think they both deliberately word things in a way that they know is going to produce frothy outrage...and then they sit back, grab some popcorn, and laught their asses off.
It's what I would do.

another good thing to come out of the Clinton era, as I assume the name, Talking Points Memo came out of that time as well.

Glad to see MoveOn has "moved on" from trying to discredit Fox News (they handle that nicely themselves, thank you) and on to more salient topics, like McCain's absurd hypocrisy on the issue of the influence of "special interests and lobbyists" in Washington.

McCain wants to lobby for them.

I think their web version at 42 seconds has a harder impact, but I think this is great. There is nothing worse than trusting some one, and then finding out that they are a liar and a hypocrite. St. McCain's halo is his biggest weak spot.

Greg,
When I log on, I get this message:
"There was an error: Unknown user"
Then hit the left arrow (back) and am logged in.
Black is a super lobbyist but there are over 47, 000 lobbyists in the billion dollar legal bribe industry of lobbyists.
Those who have not drank the kool aid know nothing will change unless lobbyists are banned.

I have enjoyed seeing the dial being turn up on McBush and king george. This election is going to ever so dirty and incredibly absurb. McBush will fuddle along until Novemeber and I'm going to enjoy a ever so sweet victory of the Dems in control.

For once - I think we can all agree that lobbyist are a serious problem that ALL democrats can unify themselves against.
I have to say - I've become a little exhausted with some of the venting that's been going on on these posts. I'm personally going to try to take a little bit more responsibility and have an honest, open discussion on issue - not just tit for tat nonsense.
Hoping I can get some of the other more impassioned posters on board with me - how about it?

I agree with you fogu. None of us want a reversal of Roe v. Wade, drilling in the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge, or a war with Iran. It's time we put aside our petty differences and come together.

I cannot agree. Lobbyists play a VERY important role in Washington...an all out ban would cripple information streams to our representatives' staff and we'd end up getting even shittier legislation than we already have.
1) Legislator's staffs do much of the work of writing bills
2) *Most* or Many Staffers are morons.
3) Since many groups (unions, businesses, counties - yes your county has a lobbyist here in washington, etc.) realize that a lot of the staffers working on their issues are morons, they need to make sure the morons have the information and education on their side of the issue.
This being a democrazy Staffers need to have the opportunity to hear from all sides so even the bad guys (portrayed very well in Thank You for Smoking)
A viable option is to ban bundled donations, or even go as far as banning PAC's as well - as these are the only methods they have to get money to the legislators at this point assuming that money=influence

Some people just don't get it. You know - the meaning of "no". That it's over. We never had much of a relationship - so stop clinging. But McLame doesn't get it. We had but a brief fling back in the old days. Before the Straight Talk Express turned into the Flip-Flop Depress. It's over Mac. Get it? Here, read my "Dear John" - maybe that will help. http://angryafrican.net/2008/05/20/dear-john/

Okay, Kool Aid guzzlers.... you got me. I have to admit that Obama's the likely nominee. And while I'd like to keep up the fight, issues like Roe v. Wade, the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge, and staying oput of a war with Iran are too important to me. I just donated $50 to the Obama campaign.

It's official, the primary is over.
Welcome back gotalife.

If Gotalife can start acting more rational - I think we all can.
Let's do our best to tone down the anger - and start thinking constructively. We all want to win in November. We all admire presidents like Clinton, Kennedy and Roosevelt. Again - far more in common than we'd like to admit.
What we should be going after is the GOP: foreign policy, economic policy, energy plan. These guys are total clowns - and we need to start telling people the truth.
Let's stand together for a change.

I've decided this kind of sectarian conflict within our base just isn't worth it.
We're going to have differences - we're human beings - but the great think about Democrats is that we're THINKING human beings.
So let's put our heads together and start working towards the same goal.

Yes, as it should be. Though I don't have much hope it will work. As someone else noted (might have been Josh) elsewhere on this site, any other campaign that had five senior officials forced to resign and a chief strategist as corrupt and compromised as Black would be in the midst of a 24/7 media uproar about being hopelessly in disarray.
It's time for the mainstream media to get its head out of McSame's ass and see him for what he really is today -- the last best hope of the corrupt special interest/private greed/ideologically extreme politics of the last seven-plus years.

Not fogu2, that's who. There's a space in front of the username (" fogu2"). Unity imposter strikes again. The software really shouldn't allow that.
