Mississippi GOPer Using Obama In New Attack Ad
Although the Republican effort to use Barack Obama's name as a cudgel in red districts didn't work for the Louisiana House race this past weekend, the GOP candidate in the upcoming Mississippi special election thinks it's an issue he can still win on.
Check out this new attack ad against Dem nominee Travis Childers:
"Travis Childers, taking Obama's endorsement is wrong," the announcer says. "Lying about it is worse."

Because this worked so well in Louisiana.

I'm not really sure about the wisdom of associating your opponent with the person who won your state's Democratic primary, but hey, it's their money.

I wonder why it's been the southern state republican parties that have tried this tactic?

Because they don't recognize that he's a 30th Century Man. They'll hold on to dog whistle, race-baiting politics until the bitter end. That's the nature of being conservative: When you're more fearful that change might make life worse than you are optimistic that change can make it better, why not keep it the same way and pay no mind to whether or not it is as good as it could be. It's a sad, sad way to go through life, but it has made a very few people very, very rich.

I don't think they are targetting this at Mississippi. I think this is the GOP trying to scare democrats nationally into nominating Hillary, the GOP's preferred opponent.
They made this ad to create a topic about "GOP running ad against Oba", and then either they or Hillary forwarded this news to TPM and otehr MSM.

An intriguing observation and, I think, probably right. Everything the Republicans have been doing, from Rush Limbaugh's urging dittoheads to vote for Hillary to the N.C. GOP ad attacking Obama, is designed to set up Hillary as their general election opponent. Because they know her unfavorables are sky-high, her credibility is near zero, and they know how to beat her. All of which is yet another reason why Dems in N.C. and Indiana should vote for Obama and end this mess once and for all.

Actually, the republicans didn't run an ad in LA that mentioned Rev. Wright. In MS they have. That could hurt the democrat moreso than in LA. Also, the republican candidate in the LA election was just awful. He should have lost by more than he did. I think the MS democratic candidate is in alot of trouble. He probably will lose because of Obama endorsing him. He would have won otherwise.

They might as well have made an ad that said "Travis Childers was endorsed by a negro." Because that's really what their problem with it is. Notice the white family at the end of the ad - no secret who they're trying to appeal to.

Hillary has nothing to do with this. It is an ugly fact of life that the GOP is going to use race as a cudgel against Obama just like they did against Harold Ford in Tennessee.

These tactics won't work this time, however the GOP won't realize it until after they have lost--so let them keep it up, this is good for the Democrats, voters can now make a clear decision of which way they want to go, with the politics of hate and divisions or the politics of change and democracy. The GOP should be trying to keep most of their members out of prison. But again that might be what they are attempting to do with their strong arm and desperate tactics.

This one is interesting, because not only are they trying to tie Obama and Childers together in a negative way, but they're attacking Childers' credibility in trying to distance himself from Obama.
I don't know how this will play out, but I'd have more sympathy for Childers if he hadn't attempted to put that distance from Obama in the first place. The Democratic party will learn sooner or later that they are stronger as a party when they support one another against attacks.
