Lieberman: Obama's Alleged Endorsement By Hamas Shows "Difference" With McCain

It was only a matter of time, really. If you ever doubted that Joe Lieberman would be using what's left of his "Independent Democrat" credentials to legitimize the GOP's bogus "Hamas endorsed Obama" attack, here he is on CNN doing just that...

When Wolf Blitzer pointed out that Obama also labels Hamas a terrorist organization, making his position the same as McCain's, Lieberman said, "that's true," adding that Obama "clearly doesn't support any of the values and goals of Hamas."

Then, with depressing predictability, came the inevitable caveat:

But the fact that the spokesperson for Hamas would say they would welcome the election of Senator Obama really does raise the question, "Why?"

And it suggests the difference between these two candidates.

Lieberman is clearly emerging as a chief attack-dog for McCain on foreign policy, and here he is echoing McCain's talking points with unerring precision: While we all know that Obama doesn't in any way support Hamas or its goals, it's okay to use the group to tar the Illinois Senator anyway, merely because McCain and the Republicans want to.

One wonders whether Harry Reid will keep this sort of stuff in mind when considering committee chairmanships in 2009.

It is officialy time to take his Senate Chairmanship away from him. Ditch him.... we won;t need his vote after Novemeber anyway. let him run to the Repukelican party...and then run a Die-Hard Democrat against him in MASS and watch him go down!

Here's the deal, Dave. We have 4 years of this toad. 4 years where he can do whatever he wants. For the first 3, we Democrats must get what we can from him. He can vote to override a filibuster.

If we have 60 without Joe, cut the piece of crap loose. Otherwise, play him carefully.

No. It is time to stand for something. Dump Lie-whore-man now.

How would running a die-hard Dem in Massachusetts hurt Lieberman? He's from Connecticut.

There is more to New England than Massachusetts, y'know.

Dave meant "en masse", not "in Mass[achussetts]".

Can anyone find his e-mail address to complain?? Here are his USPS addresses and PHONE numbers... Enjoy!!

By this tortured logic, Osama Bin Laden and al Qaeda have endorsed the Republican Party in perpetuity.

OWNED! Thank you for saying that!
-- but just so I know, like where can I actually Bin Laden and al-Qaeda saying that?

That's awfully shady and low for Lieberman to draw those lines.

user-pic

Lieberman needs to immediately be REMOVED from any leadership roll in Congress. He is no longer a Democrat supporter.

I really wish Lamont had won the race in Connecticut. We wouldn't have Holy Joe to kick around this year.

Lieberman won the Hillary way, with the Republican vote.

user-pic

He most certainly did. Thanks to the Republicans fielding a truly laughable candidate, Joe got back to the Senate.

Two sources of Republican "help": the candidate, and the Republican voters.

And here I had the audacity to hope that Obama supporters would practice what Obama preaches. Unfortanately, AdAbsurdum, you behave like a follower of Gandhi or King that would practice non-violence violently.

It isn't always about Hillary.

Can't Hillary supporters could take the heat in the kitchen?

They have to stand the heat, because they got rid of the sink.

Greg:

You need to look into Aaron Klein, the source of that Hamas smear. He's written a book in which every terrorist he interviewed said they preferred Democrats to win. This guy is a wingnut, and shouldn't be used as a source.

I was wondering where this pile of BS had come from. I'm disgusted that it's been touted as fact.

This needs to be pushed to the forefront.

Check out my diary, which goes further into this issue, here:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/10/111217/606/412/513191

I just tried to post a long comment from my diary, but it didn't go through. WTF?

user-pic

Why?

How about Obama has indicated he would listen, and Hamas wants to be heard. There is no guarantee that Obama could advance the cause of peace by listening, but it is absolutely guaranteed that McCain will shoot first, second and always, and under no circumstances would he be open to brokering a real peace between Israel and its neighbors. We have suffered through 8 years of cowboy diplomacy. Anybody really interested in 4 more years of the same failed approach?

user-pic

Republican effort to put Obama on the defensive over one of the Republicans main weaknesses. Obama doesn't have to go on the defensive. It is time for a new approach. It is not like the same old, same old has worked.

I AGREE, THE SAME OLD APPROCH Will NEVER Work!!

PLUS JOHN McBUSHsAME Is a Poor Negotiator / speaker. Listen to him on Capitol Hill questioning General Petrayous and on the Campaign stump. Sounds like he is reading the Lunch Menue at a SENIOR RETIREMENT HOME!!

PUTTING John McBUSH in the white house, DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO IMPROVE OUR FOREIGN POLICY and IMAGE ABROAD! The World See John McSame as a 3 Bush Term WARMUNGER!!

i'm not sure it is a terrible question. But I think the answer is that the world will be a little less screwed up with obama over mccain. I don't find it surprising that various people would come to the same conclusion and think it a preferable outcome.

user-pic

For me, the number one concern is whether we will return to an era of accountability or stay with the "Heckuva job" mentality that we have now.

How about you ask why EVERYONE in the world wants Obama to win the election and Republicans to lose? It isn't just Hamas, it is EVERYONE. Does this mean the British or the Germans or the Japanese or Jamaicans are terrorists or have the same goals as terrorists? Hell no, they just all know that the Republicans have screwed up everything.

Lieberman better be stripped of his committee chairmanship the SECOND the new Democrats take office in January.

Although for some perspective this isn't that far from that crap Hillary has said about Obama. Having Hillary as a VP would make as much sense as having Lieberman as a VP.

And mexicans as myself my friend..

That's a good point. It's not just Hamas (though, I keep seeing stories that this all based on a falsified story), but other parts of the world that are interested in an Obama presidency.

I think the answer has to be using this type of attack as a pivot point. I can see a slew of ads call: Why. Basically outlining why Americans are drawn to his candidacy. Hell, I could see a YouTube produced affair as well.

Something to think about.

user-pic

The most recent version of this is based on an interview given to a local NYC radio station.

Sure, Klein started it, but this most recent flare-up isn't due to him.

That's true. I was reading BBC articles about that. When people all over the world had been polled Obama won! Japan is for him, Germany, France, the UK, EVERYONE! (save oil companies, I imagine)
www.obamaworldwide.com
www.theworldwantsobama.org
-A Canadian poll:
When asked which of the three candidates they liked most, respondents preferred Obama over McCain by an almost five-to-one margin - 39 per cent to eight per cent. Even among self-declared Conservatives, Obama had almost double McCain's support.

I don't know, I was looking for that BBC article but can't find it. ugh.

Oh well, Obama's still cooler!

Oh , here's the germans:
Obama vs. McCain --
Obama 74%

thanks for those stats! Gonna go check 'em out...

"Depressing predictability" is exactly right.

God, I'm sick to my very soul of this whole massive clusterfuck of politicians, syncophants, leeches and assorted hangers on, of both parties, who have so little left of any integrity they once had that they're just pathetic.

If the electorate does not smack the smirk off of their faces in a big way, and send the lot of them packing back home to run used car lots and funeral homes, I'm going to be very disappointed in us.

Change, hell. I want to fire the whole bunch and start all over again. I want an enema for the whole body politics and a purge.

How did Jon Stewart react when McCain talked about this on the Daily Show? Anyone watch it?

user-pic

McCain has been a guest on the Daily Show more than anybody. Jon Stewart is in the tank for John McCain.

If I recall correctly, he was polite, as he usually only calls out people for stuff done outside his studio.

John asked him in a serious manner if McCain thought that this was a legitimate line of attack. When McCain said that it was a fact, John asked him if he believed the spokesman from Hammas.

I thought this was a perfect question as it raised the issue of McCain's judgement in uncritically believing someone he himself says is untrustworthy, while bringing back to the fore Bush's pushing bogus intelligence and later saying that he was "fooled".

McCain would be vulnerable on this issue if Obama had the ability to pivot full into General election mode. It would be a nice way to turn the 'Hammas' issue into a 'credibility' issue.

And thinking about this point, if the Clinton campaign is serious about getting on the Obama ticket as VP, this is a point that they'd aggressively run with. They'd be 1) promoting party unity, 2) attacking and defining McCain for the fall, and 3) showing that they can work with and be a real asset to an Obama/Clinton ticket.

It's a home run. That is, if they're serious about all the Dream Ticket talk that they've been pushing.

I bet the idiots in Conn. are kicking themselves for picking this asshole.

I doubt it. Remember, he won on the basis of his appeal to Republicans - Connecticut Dems were smart enough to choose Lamont in the primary.

And what State of sages would you be from?

user-pic

Well, I'm an "asshole from CT", and the people who picked Lieberman were Republicans and Independents. I imagine the Republicans aren't all that unhappy with Lieberman right now.

The Democrats certainly are, and polling data suggests that Independents have soured on Joe (I like to check McSame's bearings) Lieberman.

YOU!!! YOU DID THIS TO US!!!

How could you have let Joementum befall us all...

user-pic

We're never ever going to live this one down.

Aaron Klein is a total wingnut, and for more information about him, please go to my diary on Dailykos here:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/10/111217/606/412/513191

You should repost that here.

We need to get the message out: Hamas does NOT endorse Obama!

user-pic

If it's a radio interview, there has to be a recording.

I'm not saying Klein is a believable source, but if there's a recording of Ahmed Yousef saying this, it doesn't make a lot of sense to claim he didn't actually say that.

Do you know what I mean?

How could you let someone who has so actively campaigned against your party's nominee retain his seniority in committee assignments?

But because they need him now, they're afraid to tell him to jump off a cliff. So, he's milking that for all its worth.

But let there be a significant majority come November and I think JL is going to find it's a cold, cold, cold day and that he has few friends left. I think his plan must be for a job in a McCain administration. And I don't think that's going to happen.

user-pic

One wonders if Harry Reid wants to keep his position as Senate Majority Leader by letting Lieberman continue to try to elect Republicans.

Hey Harry....You like your post? If you want to keep it you really need to start publicly kicking Lieberman's butt right now....not after the '08 elections.

well, it's a fair point. I personally think there is plenty of reason to engage Hamas, and Hamas clearly thinks Obama would be more willing to do so than Clinton or McCain. So the public has a choice - the candidate more "pro-engagement" or "anti-engagement." Lieberman's just presenting a cruder version of this choice.

And the way you people froth over Lieberman is hilarious.

Eh, I find the ignorance of Americans pretty hilarious. Eh, and I definitely enjoy chasing your girls half my age. Here charm and intelligence go a long way.

I find the ignorance of Americans pretty hilarious.

And I find the smug arrogance of non-Americans with regard to this sort of thing to be even funnier.

Tell me, where are you from, Yilla? I'm quite sure I could find examples of astonishing levels of ignorance on some topic or another among people in your home country, so why not just shut the fuck up with your oh-so-superior generalizations?

(Here's a five-dollar bet that Yilla doesn't tell me where he/she is from, BTW.)

oh, I am from the US (of KKK of A!).

grew up in backwoods South, which taught me just how fucking stupid rednecks are. Worked in NYC, which taught me how much NYers are not that much smarter. went to law skool and b-skool and learned just how really fucking dumb Ivy grads are, but especially AA Ivy grads.

eh, in almost any country in Europe an average 10th grader would put you morons to shame. Or in the case of AAs, a 6th grader.

Ahh, Milorad rears his ugly face yet again!

Chasing being the operative word

Lieberman kissed Rev. Hagee and compared him to Moses so he is not really a maven on the ME.

I think we ought to engage in discussions with whomever wants to talk to us. It's called diplomacy. You don't have to like the person you're talking to. States don't have friends, they have interests. Israel has to take the lead in its own approach but as long as Hagee and Lieberman are sucking up to one another, the view of the US as a constructive member of the panel is in question.

The Democrats aren't doing anything with their Senate majority anyway, and there's no sign that they will between now and November. The time to dump Lieberman is now.

Please, Senator Lieberman, please keep this up.

Sooner or later, someone is going to ask when Israel became the 51st state of the Union.

Obama needs to refute this now.

He needs to question the source (Klein), who also smeared Obama with the Weathermen / Ayers "association."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Klein

For the record: Obama has said he will NOT meet with Hamas, and considers it a terrorist group.

His position on Hamas in identical to McCain. Hopefully, people will see through this as a desperate attempt by old-man McCain to scare people into voting for 100 years of war.

is* identical

user-pic

I agree that the Hamas spokesman was speaking for himself and Obama has said he wouldn't meet with Hamas, but why panic over the issue?

It is very clear McCain is trying to make Obama look weak by putting him on the defensive. That is what you are doing when you focus on attacking the attacker. Obama should address this issue headon. He wins in a straight up policy debate.

I personally have no problem with somebody meeting with Hamas. It doesn't make sense not to.

Serious question: could turncoat Lieberman be on the short list for McCain's VP pick?

Is McCain looking at the Slimebucket as V.P. material? Thought I heard that somewhere?

As ugly as this is, it also strikes me as a positive sign for Obama. Here we are in May and the GOP has already gone issue-less. Usually, the smears come with a good dose of policy attacks as well. The two then reinforce one another. But this Hamas claim is so weak, I think very few will be swayed by it. Maybe they're just trying to rile up the base by depicting Obama as a terrorist, but the vast majority of Americans are this stupid. I would like to see Obama hitting McCain over the actual link his people have to the junta in Burma.

joezoe tortureman, the future chairman of the senate select committee on shitheels, shithouses, and shitholes

joezoe is really gonna love his new committee assignment

I'm just extremely annoyed that McCain/Lieberman haven't been taken to task for this "oh, I don't believe this for a minute but the voters want me to bring it up" BS.

oh, and regarding AAs. Just anecdotal evidence, but when I lived in NYC, I was assaulted or mugged eight times. Each time by AAs. Two friends of mine were raped during that time. Yep. In law skool and b-skool, I was appalled at the shabby quality of journal articles generally, but those produced by AA profs were really the bottom of the barrel. And in both law and b-skool, AAs generally showed a nauseating combination of outright ignorance and smugness.

And while few people of any ethnicity come even close to being my intellectual equal, I seriously have never met one AA I considered even smart enough with whom to even try to have a semi-intelligent conversation.

Sorry, but AAs have not shown themselves to be especially good citizens, scholars, or colleagues. And every corp lawyer I know dreads working with AA associates because they a) know they can't be fired and b) their work quality is shit.

nice try, but I know I get under people's skin, however they may wish to deny it. I even made one of my dumb bunny law profs cry in class, a truly proud moment. I also deeply embarrassed a dean by telling a joke about him and basketball (and "rim jobs") in his range of hearing.

I'm good at a lot of things, but getting dumb bunnies riled up is a specialty : )

Looks to me like TrollCritic got under your skin.

Thanks for openly admitting that you're an issueless troll. Saves me time wondering if you really believe the stuff you say or not.

no, what's his name is very, very mildly amusing, and I responded to his comments.

Please, don't feed the trolls.

My, my, quite full of ourselves, aren't we? I wonder what exactly you have done to earn that smug, self-satisfied attitude. You definitely didn't do anything to help out race relations, so...

This kind of thing just makes the party stronger! The republicans would have done this in the fall anyway, so it's O.K. for a democrat to do it now!

user-pic

Greg wrote: "One wonders whether Harry Reid will keep this sort of stuff in mind when considering committee chairmanships in 2009." One hopes that Harry Reid no longer will hold that position in 2009 because the Democrats have the sense to replace him with someone who has some gumption.

This guy should be immediately expelled, to the fullest extent that is allowed by any rules that might exist for this sort of thing, from any position of power or influence in the Democratic Party. Who are the nutjobs that keep re-electing him? This guy is clearly not a Democrat anymore. And as a Jew, I hope he is fully prepared to fry in Hagee and Parsley's hell.

But the fact that [Hagee, Parsley and Pat Robertson] would say they would welcome the election of Senator [McCain] really does raise the question, "Why?"

Not to mention the fact that McCain welcomes their support.

But Joe has no problem that his guy is backed by the believers in the rapture, the crazies who believe that Joe and his fellow Jews are going straight to hell.

Joe, calling you a schmuck, a puts, a schmekl and a schvants does not do justice to what you really are.

F-ing snake. I don't have the words.

I'm not a Hillary supporter, but, why does it says "Clingon" in the polls area?

#WV-Pres (D) Clingon 60%, Obama 24%
May 11 Suffolk

That's really hillarious!

LOl-ed at that! Sorry Clinton supporters, I love ya, but that is funny! 'Course I'm a trekkie from way back....

Harry Reid is failing his party by not stripping Lieberman's Chairmanship for these recent comments. Everyone is afraid of Lieberman becoming a Republican, but take a look. HE IS A REPUBLICAN!! Hell, you don't see Specter making these kind of attacks.

Joe's already a more than reliable GOP vote on anything involving Iraq (or torture, or civil liberties, or attacking Iran, or any number of untenable Bush positions), and his vote happens to be currently offset by Chuck Hagle on many of these issues. After November, the Democrats will have a larger working majority, so this "razor thin majority" excuse won't fly. It's not like Lieberman can pull too far to the right as the voters in Connecticut will boot him out the first chance they get. I know there's a lot of buyer's remorse over there as it is.

Lieberman is currently actively engaged in sabotaging the Democratic party. He's punking Reid on a daily basis. To wait until 2009 to discipline him is to invite scorn and accusations from the Right about how Democrats are too weak to take action throughout the general election cycle.

He's with us on everything but the war, and the Obama loves Hamas stuff.

If there is a strong majority of democrats in the senate on 1/20/09, Lieberman should be totally defanged.

You have to ask, how in the Hell did he become the vice presidential candidate? I didn't like him then . . . always reminded me of that line in My Fair Lady where one of the characters is said to "oil his way across the floor". That's my picture of Joe Lieberman, snide, slippery and dangerous . . . snake-like. He gives rattlesnakes a bad name.

So?

how dumb can people be! must one take Hamas at its word- perhaps this is a PSY OPS ploy, and they really want McCain to win, so they say they back Obama (with a wink!) knowing that this will push naive voters to pick McCain.
with McCain as Prez, they will be able to recruit more fanatics.

i think the same tactic was used in the 2004 election when it was claimed that the terrorists wanted Kerry to win.

why take people at their word? look at their motives behind them.

i have not seen any pundit take up this dimension- that Al-Qaeda is using psychological warfare to further their aims. or perhaps the rednecks and the pundits are just too stupid to realize the possibility that our enemies are so clever.

what a whacko world. glad i left USA yrs ago and moved to Europe. here there is no talk of Jesus during election time....

There is a perception, articulated by Obama himself, that even despots will be invited to the table for discussions.

When it comes to the Middle East and Israel there is an uncrossable line for many Americans. Negotiating with sworn enemies of Israel is unacceptable. The is a reasonable perception that Obama will pander to those constituencies but once in office would find excuses to negotiate with those sworn enemies of Israel.

Supporters of Israel reasonable believe Obama has an unspoken agenda. It does not matter how many times he says he supports Israel. They will not vote for him.

Supporters of Israel reasonable believe Obama has an unspoken agenda. It does not matter how many times he says he supports Israel. They will not vote for him.

Right-wing smear much?

Don't put words into the mouths of every Jewish voter in this country. He has many Jewish supporters and it's just stupid to suggest otherwise.

I'm a Jewish Obama supporter. I am one because I don't think Israel is the only issue facing Jews in America. We are part of a country and we are suffering from a war of choice that never should have been launched, neglect of health care for children, a crumbling economy, a peed-on Constitution that guarantees our rights to be Jewish in America and other issues. We are a wounded country and we need to take care of ourselves. Obama can do it. McCain won't. Yes, Israel's important to me and yes, I want Israel to thrive. Yes, we owe Israel protection but it is part of a total package. We have alienated our friends. Hagee/Lieberman/McCain are poison for Israel. It's as if Neturei Karta had taken over the Knesset.

I don't get it, everyone knows terrorists vote Republican, they are much better at recruiting new terrorists than silly, peace-loving Democrats!

Last time I checked, Carter helped broker Camp David, and Clinton helped broker Oslo... both times with known archenemy of Israel Yasser Arafat. I also note that the US allies itself with Saudi Arabia who wants Israel to remove its borders to pre-1967 levels... hey, so does Egypt, Lybia, the UAE, and Jordan... Are these all archenemies of Israel?

History is replete with diplomacy and negotiations that involve sworn enemies of Our Way of Life. Clausewitz said that "war is diplomacy by other means." Well, when you don't even use diplomacy, what that does that make war other than naked barbaric aggression? You decide.

I have been researching, and it hit me, this is the best way to look at Joe:

He is one of *them*. The people he'd most like to see when he starts his day would be Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, John Bolton, Douglas Feith. Since he can't have most of them any more, he'll see what kinds of folks McCain can introduce him to.

Cavity endorses sugar as well...Should we stop cosumming sugary treats?

user-pic

Try this....

Jerry Falwell endorsed McCain. By Falwell's own standard, the 9/11 al Qaeda attacks were divine retribution against the US for advancing a secular society:

I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way -- all of them who have tried to secularize America -- I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen.' " http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A28620-2001Sep14

Therefore, Falwell's endorsement follows up in support of al Qaeda's anti-secular agenda. Osama bin Laden and Jerry Falwell, and by virtue of Falwell's endorsement John McCain, each share the same values and make the same demands of American society in particular and human civilization in general.

Lieberman is a pathetic sycophant and is going to be McCain's "intelligence" water boy throughout the campaign. Just look how the fool gazes adoringly upon his hero, prompting him helpfully when the old dude fumbles his facts. It's enough to make one sick. Have you noticed how he's constantly hovering around McCain? Is he lusting after another chance at VP, or is he just lusting? Looks like he's sweet on John to me. The time has come to deny him all status derived from his parasitic presence in the Democratic caucus. As I understand it, he's already been stripped of his super-delegate status. Why continue to humor him in the Senate? Let creepy Lieb be the Republicans' headache for a change. Force them to bump some their own colleagues to find non-senior places for him on committees. If they discovery they don't really want to be bothered with him after all, let him cool his sorry ass in the political wilderness where he belongs. See how he likes being an independent nobody affiliated with a runt Republican minority come January. Revenge, you say? Hell yeah. Make the damn fool feel it.

user-pic

Well, he has checked McSame's bearings, so perhaps there is some lust there.

That said, Reid better make clear that he's going to strip ol' Joe of any leadership role, or Reid may find himself without any leadership role.

Man, Lieberman is fucked when Obama becomes President.

Serious answer. No, not veep. I think he wants Sec. of State or Defense. Liarman must know he'll never be elected again in Connecticut, will be too old for Pres. in 2012, so is looking for big finale to career.

user-pic

Anybody who has paid attention to the Republican party's behavior knows, as depressing as it is, that by November they will be openly accusing him of being an Al-Qaida sleeper agent, a Muslim, various assorted racist crap, etc etc.

McCain won't, the anchors on Fox News won't, Newt Gingrich won't... but, so what?

They just have too many people who have no morals in positions to spread this stuff, and have too little options otherwise.

That said...

I'm all for them pulling this crap. I honestly believe it's not gonna work for them this time... maybe it will in the south and in states that are lost causes, anyway.

But let's ask ourselves how many people are going to go the other way, and write this kind of stuff off as the garbage it is? How many people are paying attention and thinking with their heads now, who weren't 4, 5, 8 years ago?

Joementum's doing what he's been asked to do, which is shore up the Rethugs' Likud faction and peel a few wavering and sympathetic Dem voters off as well. He's doing a splendid job.

Joe Lieberman is a snake.

Maybe that Hamas leader likes Obama because he doesn't think Obama will randomly blow his country off the map, or allow Israel to do so at a whim.

Gee, that's a pretty good reason to like someone.

However messed up and misguided Hamas is, we can't allow ourselves as Americans to allow the opinions of one man to sway our electoral process one way or another. They are not us. What they say is out of Sen. Obama's control, and should NOT be used against him.

user-pic

Lieberman is unhinged. He must have been traumatized as a child or something because 9/11 seems to have triggered some kind of PTSD reaction in the guy. He's become a total paranoid.

The terrorist endorsement is the Nigerian email scam of election season. You know, con artists have long targeted the elderly because their fading faculties makes them easier marks. Does McCain really think that Hamas was trying to HELP Obama? Is he too brain addled to realize that the Hamas leadership knows exactly what the Rep smear mongers will do with their endorsement?

Here's a newsflash for those that have not been paying attention for the last 8 years. Hamas' has gained in power during the Bush years and McCain wants to continue the Bush policies. Obama will use diplomacy aggressively to empower the peacemakers. That's Hamas' worst nightmare because they are warmakers and they thrive on the occupation.

Great comment.

Maybe Hamas "supports" Obama because Hamas wants a peaceful approach as well. There is no course other than war with McStain and company.

Take Pelosi off the table in 2008.
Drown out Feinstein in 2012.

This is nauseating.
Loserman knows exactly what he's doing.
Trying to scare the little old lady Jewish voters in Florida to not vote for Obama.

It's time for Liebermann to come out.
His creepy criticisms of Obama in the guise of being, as he states, an "Independent Democrat" is such a sham that it is indeed time for him to declare himself a closet Republican, and quit being a two-faced coward.

Lieberman is a disgrace to the Senate, to the Democrats and to my tribe, Judaism. He has let his ego take the place of the traditional Jewish commitment to truth and justice and to healing the world. He seeks to roil the world, not to heal it. It is time for the Democrats to take his toys away and to stop regarding him as important. He is only important to himself.

Stormin' Joe! Defending American from the rear ranks for 30 years!

Are your kids in the military Joe? When the Middle East explodes into World War III, will your family be there on the front lines, or will it be a bunch of gentile farm kids from Oklahoma?

oy vey. what a schmuck. as a jewish american democrat, it really pisses me off that this man is the most "authoritative", or at least most prominent voice for jewish american politicians these days. paging russ feingold: can you please send out a press release or something? and please call joe lieberman a terrorist. just for shits and giggles. see how he likes it.

I agree, it's time to cut him loose now. If he wants to abandon his principles and start voting as a Republican, fine. But the party just can't handle a traitor of his ilk anymore.

Obama campaigned for Joe back in 2006, and this is how Lieberman repays him? What a dirtbag. A total, low life dirtbag.

I'd take away Lieberman's chairmanships immediately, and I'd also think about taking him off key committees entirely. Let Republicans put him on committees if they want.

"When Wolf Blitzer pointed out that Obama also labels Hamas a terrorist organization, making his position the same as McCain's.."

Honestly, it's laughable what passes for political discourse in this country. There ARE differences between Obama and McCain as far as international policy and the Middle East. That's what all the Obamabots are always telling us anyway. According to them, Obama is the great peacemaker and diplomat, and McCain is the war-monger, right?

So for Blitzer to describe Obama and McCain as being identical, policy-wise, from Hamas' perspective, is ignorant. Hamas is thousands of miles away, and yet THEY somehow managed to be able to tell Obama and McCain apart, even if Blitzer is helpless in that regard.

Joe Lieberman's continued backbiting is a perfect example of blowback for the Democratic Party. He's like the mujihadeen in Afghanistan in the mid-80s - once our friend and ally, but subsequently left unchecked and unaccounted for. Now he's the metaphorical terrorist organization that can't ever be extirpated.

I have three wishes re Joe Liberman. My first choice is to send him to Guantanamo. My second choice is to send him to Israel. My third is to kick him out of the democratic caucus.

This seems like a great time to re-hash Smoking Joe's movie theater antics:

Lieberman likes expressions of American power. A few years ago, I was in a movie theatre in Washington when I noticed Lieberman and his wife, Hadassah, a few seats down. The film was "Behind Enemy Lines," in which Owen Wilson plays a U.S. pilot shot down in Bosnia. Whenever the American military scored an onscreen hit, Lieberman pumped his fist and said, "Yeah!" and "All right!"

Someone should give this asshole a ride to Afghanistan.

Obama will not win Florida.
New York will be in play.
California will be in play.

That is what an Obama candidacy will mean.

Hey fogu, play with this....

Looks like McSame will be using the same fear tactics Rove used in 2004.

I am so tired of the vacuous guilt by association bullshit.

Obama ought to get ready to counter the AIPAC slime machine get going.

They genuinely are pissed that $hllary somehow lost.

And rightly so.

Have you noticed how Wholly Joe even looks like a ventriloquist's dummy when he moves his mouth?

Let me be clear I fully support the Israel's right to defend itself.

But if Lieberman had to choose between the existence of Israel and the U.S. he would choose Israel hands down. His-now out of the closet- single motto is to defend Israel at all costs. He doesn't give a fuck about the United States.

Puzzling connection there?

And if Obamites has to choose between Clinton and the destruction of Israel they would choose the latter.

See, I can channel your idiotic logic.

It will be close call I'll admit...lol. But I would like to see the single most stable democracy and an U.S. ally to remain strong in the Middle East.

Mercy sakes alive, the poor man has Howdy Doody mouth and Mortimer Sneerd eyes,,,,, to match the cranial cavity filled with sawdust.

Lieberman. Sooo sick of this asshole. Here's hoping we get enough Democratic senators in the fall, so we can strip this douchebag of his seniority.

You're not Jewish are you.

i like kosher pickles! how's that for a none answer....

I think letting Hamas dictate who or who shouldn't be elected is negotiating with terrorists.

Dave, Lieberman is from Conneticut not Mass.

Joe Lieberman is beginning to come off as McCain's little bitch. I think he is becoming an embarrassment to the Jewish community.

You're not Jewish are you.

you're a fuckin' prick, aren't you?

You're not very bright, are you?

It's time for all Ned Lamont supporters in CT to begin dogging Lieberman for his behavior. This summer, Sore-loserman Jo-mentum will be making the picnic circuit in CT reminding the voters of CT why is was elected. I'd urge all dissatisfied CT voters to feed Joe lots of pork-filled hot dogs and help him remember how to spell Barack Obama. Lieberman is the most pathetic charqcter to have emerged on the political stage of recent history. WHY HARRY REID CONTINUES TO ALLOW THIS CRETIN ANY COMMITTEE LEADERSHIP IS MORE A STATEMENT OF REID'S LACK OF TESTICULAR FORTITUDE.

For the first time in my life I feel as though I, you, we can change our community, our country, our world!!!

OBAMA!!! OBAMA!!! WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghSJsEVf0pU&NR=1

Hope is the excuse for consistent failure to succeed.

You're such a moron.

OH NO! THE DESTRUCTION OF iSRAEL! DOGS AND CATS LIVING TOGETHER! MASS HYSTERIA!

I have an idea. Lets send everyone in the world who doesn't 100% back israel to "re-education" camps (snark). I think that is God came down and lobbied for a fair solution to "The Middle East Problem", these AIPAC pieces of shit and people that think like them would accuse him of being an anti-semite. Geez, you would think a holocaust and years of terrorism would get these people to be a bit more level-headed.

In other words, if you are an American, maybe you should be more concerned with what is in AMERICA'S national interest before you care about other countries' national interests.

By the way, how can someone be the most "liberal" senator and at the same time want to help "destroy" israel? You people are so afraid you don't even make sense anymore.

You're not Jewish are you.

you really have nothing substantive to offer, do you?

Sen. Lieberman may be from Conn, but he is clearly the Senator from Isreal. Read "The Isreal Lobby" by Mearsheimer and Walt.

if lieberass was any other religion or nationality, people would be trying to haul him to the crazy house

So now we're into the Jewish conspiracy.

Are the Elders of Zion next in your comments?

I read the original paper, btw. stuff like that doesn't get through to the brainwashed though

It seems the Obamic anti-semitism is out in the open.

This bodes well for McCain....and Clinton.

um, just because we do not like lieberman does not mean we are anti-semitic.

thanks for putting words into our avatar's mouths!

please, do not tell me lieberman is one of the few national politicians you like. i have a low opinion of your politics as is. that may crush it...

I guess truth sometimes also has an anti-semitic bias, huh?
Question, if you had to choose between America being bankrupt or israel, who would you Choose?

user-pic

Fuck you and your bullshit choice.

(hint, if you are an AMERICAN senator, the correct answer is AMERICA.)

HILLARY Clinton is a part of that Republican smear, in that 3 on one pile on Pennsylvania debate, she try to link Farrakhan and Hamas to Obama. Given the FACT THAT Obama previously in the Ohio debate already strongly Denounce and Reject Farrakhan. Despite this, she resurrect the subject with no NO FACTS or EVIDENCE whatsoever, just to “SMEAR” Obama period!!

Actions speak louder than words.

Obama, for decades, was a member of a group that supported Farrakhan and spoke of hatred toward America and many of its people. Obama has received the support of Hamas and The New Black Panthers. There is good reason to suspect that as a product of his upbringing and associations he has questionable intent toward Israel.

The increasingly anti-semitic tone of the Obamites in this thread gives credibility to those suspicions.

It does not matter that Obama says the words that pander, his past and his past actions are the guide to his mindset.

I'll huff and I'll puff....

And you'll get cancer.

user-pic

Get a grip, fogu2. Sorry to disappoint you, but Obama has a fine history with Jews in Illinois (he plays in Peoria).

http://jews4obama2008.wordpress.com/

Deal with it.

Is this a symptom of yet one more challenge that Obama faces in the GE?. To review,

1. All the flag/pin stuff, and his wife's wretchedly inopportune crack about first time to be proud to be an American. Don't expect this to go away -- it raises eyebrows.

2. Wright and the Weatherman guy.

3. Relatively light experience in Washington.

4. Ran his mouth about country folk (this is no doubt fading somewhat). AND NOW,

5. Is he really being set up by Joe and friends as the anti-Jewish, pro-terrorist candidate? Is Joe freelancing, or is this the beginning of the Big Smear? AND ALSO,

6. Apparently, it is getting going among the real religio freakjobs that it is okay for him to win, as it will be just punishment for a sinful nation. Don't know how popular this insanity is.

Together, it's a heavy load, in any case. It's going to take a lot of skill. And he has got to keep his chin up, and not let it get to him.

Well seeing as you did not answer the question, it's clear that due to your overiding alegance to a foreign power, you hate America.
Farrakhan and the NEW Black Panthers? I have a call for your dumb ass. It's from the early 70's. They want their cowardice/racism back.

I think it's great that Lieberman realizes that there is a difference between Obama and McCain. Kudos to him. I just find it surprising, given the considerable resources available to a US senator, that he relies on Hamas for his information.

Has anyone pointed out to Lieberman that the Hamas guy also "endorsed" John F. Kennedy? The exact quote from Ahmed Yousef is: "I do believe he [Obama] is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle..."

Somebody should ask Joe whether the foreign policy of one of the most admired presidents from the Democratic party somehow favored the evil schemes of "Islamofascists." That is exactly what the logical implications are of he and McCain trying to use this statement to smear Obama with a Hamas association. Not that Lieberman and McCain are very good at logical thought.

Hey shit-bag, your "pork-filled" hot dog comment was uncalled for. I don't care how you feel about Lieberman's politics, but if you are going to get anti-semitic on us, watch out.

Sorry, that was for "Angry-american" above @ 1:08pm

What a dispicable, insidious man. A Senator no less. I always expect to see a forked tongue snap out from his mouth like a snake or lizzard when he talks. And what a condescending and patronizing a$$hole. An absolute know it all. He must have had his ass kicked everyday for his lunch money. And he is making up for it now. He wants to take his ball and go home because the Ct. Democrats weren't nice to him. I would rather the Democrats expell him from his chairmanship, let him caucus with the Republicans and turn obstructionists as the Republicans are now. It would be for less than 7mos. And if they are able to win stronger majoritys, make him as insignificant as possible. There are Democrats who still think he is important.

Question Wolf forgot to ask...

Sen. Lieberman,

If a serial murderer endorse John McCain, does it raise the question, why?

If the Ku Klux Klan endorses Senator McCain does it raise the question, "why?"

If the guys who created the sub-prime mortgage collapse endorse John McCain, does it raise the question, "why?"

If the CEO who escapes his company with a golden parachute, and shelters his income in the Cayman Islands while all his employees lose their jobs and pensions endorses John McCain, does it raise the question, "why?"

If someone who wants to sell gigarettes to children endorses John McCain does it raise the question, "why?"

We could go on and on and on.....

The only way to combat this kind of inflammatory illogic is to mock them into submission, preferably to their face.

Biff Diggerence,

Joementum does not speak for Isreal or any Jewish person other than hisself.

2000 was a bad year. Loosing the White House broke both Senator Wackadoo and Joementum . . . or perhaps its was hugs & kisses from Bush43

This makes the perfect attack point "John McCain takes terrorists at their word."

Why the heck aren't they saying that to put him on the defensive.

Sorry you seem to be a really unhappy and bitter person. Your soul appears to be in turmoil. Pray earnestly and you can find your true place in life and you will find that happiness and inner peace will surely follow.

I realized there is a new version of the worst case scenario. Demsocrats make huge gains in the House and Senate in November. In the Senate, they have a filibuster-proof majority...that depends on Joe Lieberman.

During the 2004 elections, the Iranians gave their unsolicited endorsement to George Bush "http://www.news24.com/News24/World/US_Elections/0,,2-10-1665_1607809,00.html".
Was George Bush made to carry the burden of that unsolicited endorsement? Rightly no. So, the case here should not be different. You have no control over who endorses you. Sometimes it could be pure mischief making.

Blame Bill Clinton.

Remember, Gore picked Lieberman because Joe was one of the few senators who condemned Bill Clinton. Gore was trying to inoculate himself from Bill Clinton’s lies and actions. This is why we have to deal with Joe.

It is Bill’s lies

Every time they mention the Hamas "endorsement" Obama should say:

OBLaden endorsed Bush and McCain's war in Iraq because he knew it would take our focus out of Afghanistan. He endorsed their war because he knew it would result, apparently, in him running around from cave to cave while we squander blood and treasure in Iraq.

How about Al-Qaeda in Iraq endorses John McCain because he will provide recruitment and targets for the next 100 years.

How is it that neocons like Lieberman for years have been telling us that we can't believe anything that a radical Islamic group says in English and, suddenly, when somebody from Hamas turs up saying that serves the partisan needs of the GOP, you can take it to the bank?

At least we now know what the Israeli lobby will approach this election cycle.

Joe Lieberman was the Democratic vice presidential candidate back in 2000. I kinda liked him, except for the time during the debate with Cheney that he kissed Dick's ring. What the hell has happened to him? Yep he faced a tough challenge in 2006 but the way he has abandoned the Democratic party makes me wonder where he lost his way. Maybe we just didn't see what he was like back in the day.

So some right wing wingnut claims that some guy in Hamas thinks Obama is a smart guy and not a one dimensional prick. What about Al Qaeda supporting Bush?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,114489,00.html

And this is straight from the right wing media. Why don't we talk about that. And the reasons for supporting him are much worse than the reasons quoted to that Hamas guy for liking Obama.

"The statement tells American voters that Abu Hafs al-Masri supports the re-election campaign of President Bush: "We are very keen that Bush does not lose the upcoming elections. The statement said Abu Hafs al-Masri needs what it called Bush's "idiocy and religious fanaticism" because they would "wake up" the Islamic world."

Let's find some more proof of Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations that actually do support the Republicans to offset these smears with actual proof.
