There is no guarantee that Obama could advance the cause of peace by listening, but it is absolutely guaranteed that McCain will shoot first, second and always, and under no circumstances would he be open to brokering a real peace between Israel and its neighbors. We have suffered through 8 years of cowboy diplomacy. Anybody really interested in 4 more years of the same failed approach?

For me, the number one concern is whether we will return to an era of accountability or stay with the "Heckuva job" mentality that we have now.

The Democrats aren't doing anything with their Senate majority anyway, and there's no sign that they will between now and November. The time to dump Lieberman is now.

As ugly as this is, it also strikes me as a positive sign for Obama. Here we are in May and the GOP has already gone issue-less. Usually, the smears come with a good dose of policy attacks as well. The two then reinforce one another. But this Hamas claim is so weak, I think very few will be swayed by it. Maybe they're just trying to rile up the base by depicting Obama as a terrorist, but the vast majority of Americans are this stupid. I would like to see Obama hitting McCain over the actual link his people have to the junta in Burma.

This kind of thing just makes the party stronger! The republicans would have done this in the fall anyway, so it's O.K. for a democrat to do it now!

This guy should be immediately expelled, to the fullest extent that is allowed by any rules that might exist for this sort of thing, from any position of power or influence in the Democratic Party. Harry Reid is failing his party by not stripping Lieberman's Chairmanship for these recent comments. Everyone is afraid of Lieberman becoming a Republican, but take a look. HE IS A REPUBLICAN!! Hell, you don't see Specter making these kind of attacks.

Joe's already a more than reliable GOP vote on anything involving Iraq (or torture, or civil liberties, or attacking Iran, or any number of untenable Bush positions), and his vote happens to be currently offset by Chuck Hagle on many of these issues. After November, the Democrats will have a larger working majority, so this "razor thin majority" excuse won't fly. It's not like Lieberman can pull too far to the right as the voters in Connecticut will boot him out the first chance they get. I know there's a lot of buyer's remorse over there as it is.

Lieberman is currently actively engaged in sabotaging the Democratic party. He's punking Reid on a daily basis. To wait until 2009 to discipline him is to invite scorn and accusations from the Right about how Democrats are too weak to take action throughout the general election cycle.

If there is a strong majority of democrats in the senate on 1/20/09, Lieberman should be totally defanged.

You have to ask, how in the Hell did he become the vice presidential candidate? I didn't like him then . . . always reminded me of that line in My Fair Lady where one of the characters is said to "oil his way across the floor". There is a perception, articulated by Obama himself, that even despots will be invited to the table for discussions.

When it comes to the Middle East and Israel there is an uncrossable line for many Americans. Negotiating with sworn enemies of Israel is unacceptable. The is a reasonable perception that Obama will pander to those constituencies but once in office would find excuses to negotiate with those sworn enemies of Israel.

Supporters of Israel reasonable believe Obama has an unspoken agenda. It does not matter how many times he says he supports Israel. They will not vote for him.

Has anyone pointed out to Lieberman that the Hamas guy also "endorsed" John F. Kennedy? The exact quote from Ahmed Yousef is: "I do believe he [Obama] is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle..."

Somebody should ask Joe whether the foreign policy of one of the most admired presidents from the Democratic party somehow favored the evil schemes of "Islamofascists." That is exactly what the logical implications are of he and McCain trying to use this statement to smear Obama with a Hamas association. Joe Lieberman was the Democratic vice presidential candidate back in 2000. I kinda liked him, except for the time during the debate with Cheney that he kissed Dick's ring. What the hell has happened to him? Yep he faced a tough challenge in 2006 but the way he has abandoned the Democratic party makes me wonder where he lost his way. Maybe we just didn't see what he was like back in the day.
