Hillary's New Oregon Ad: "It's Going To Take A Fighter"

Hillary Clinton has a new ad in Oregon, a largely positive spot in which she re-introduces herself to a state that will vote May 20:

"It's going to take a fighter to meet these challenges," Clinton says, invoking her theme that she's the one who will get things done. "If you give me the chance, together we'll turn our country around."

Meanwhile, Clinton has picked up a new super-delegate, Jaime Gonzalez of Texas.

Too bad the only thing Clinton will ever fight for is to be elected.

Class Act all the way. GO HILLARY!

Maybe it's just my hearing... but did she say that it's going to take a liar to bleat at challengers?!

I could've sworn that's what she said...

"And to prove to you that I'm a fighter, I promise to borrow money from China to fix our roads and highways because I'm in desperate need of a politically expedient pander so I'm siding with John McCain instead of common sense, economic analysis, my party, and the interests of my nation."

Um, yeah. The Clinton era put us in such poverty.
It was the first time in American history that the middle class was starting to live a really good life.

user-pic

Based on the stunning success of her Gas Tax Holiday legislation, I fully expect she'll personally enact her whole legislative agenda once elected President.

user-pic

Does that agenda include her flag-burning amendment?

i must have truly misunderestimated her.

Subtext: "Even if it means dividing the Democratic party and losing the election in Novemeber."

May 20? Save your money, Hillary. It will all be over by then.

Say "G'night" Shrillary.

You're DONE!

user-pic

Why is she wasting money in Oregon?

she has no chance in hell in Oregon.

What are the Clintons doing?

I think she's trying to convince supers to either wait or pretend like she has money and a Democratic agenda.

user-pic

But why?

well, obama has a chance to knock her out in IN and NC... if he can't, then this race goes on and OR is important. SUSA has her down by 6 pts in their latest poll. that's hardly insurmountable. Obama has to win to end this thing. calling hillary names in the comment section of some blog that might be read by a couple hundred people isn't going to make her quit.

user-pic

No, but then, comments boards don't have much other function, yo?

That's one of their main attractions.

really? how embarrassing! i haven't been calling obama names at all. i can't believe that i've been doing it wrong all this time. damn...

Clinton supporters keep it civil here.

The Clintons must be very proud to have the undying support of Gotalife, the Racist Scumbag Aryan Nation Troll(ANT)

Here is what that pet sewer rat of the Grand Wizard wrote this afternoon.
=============================================

Among the many allegations in the chain email is one about Obama’s name: “By the way. His true name is Barak Hussein Muhammed Obama. Won’t that sound sweet to our enemies as they swear him in on the Koran!” That's blatantly not true, as far as we know. But the campaign still won't release his birth certificate which
perhaps is adding fuel to the rumor."

Uh oh.

He took his Seante oath on the Bible. His own family Bible. And he has led the Senate in the pledge of allegiance. Any other lies you'd like to trot out there?

user-pic

When do I call Hillary names?

Lord - everyone brings to it whatever - if you want to be a thread critic, I guess that's what you bring to it.

I find the meta-bitching really tiring.

It never changed a board yet.

user-pic

It is going to take an idiot---for anyone to give her the 2025th vote.

It's going to take...

... a better candidate.

Hey Eric:

Why doesn't TPM remove all references to stories about the doctored Kantor video. I really am appalled that this garbage is still floating on the surface of this site. It is defamatory, and I think the site has a responsibility to remove materials that are designed to injure another's reputation.

Sorry that this is off message; however, I am really outraged about the continued dissemination of a doctored video through the vehicle of this site.

If you guys had any integrity, you would be calling for the concerted fraud -- far worse than robo-calls that this site has rightfully highlighted.

That's a pretty slippery slope, isn't it? Imagine all the posts and comments that would have to be wiped from the site by that standard.

TPM staffers didn't post those. They (the posts) will die a natural death.

Get some integrity.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/05/official-transc.html

I don't care who posted the defamation, but a decent lawyer could make an argument that a website should not knowingly publish a libel.

This has nothing to do with my integrity. I didn't post a word about that story. And I'm not debating its inaccuracies.

I asked a very simple question. I'll rephrase it in case it helps: Does your indignation and call for action extend to every smear, lie, and defamation of character that's been published by readers on this site about Barack Obama? Because this happens daily. Have you made it a practice to admonish the site to take down those posts and comments?

The Obama trolls have no intellectual honesty to even admit it was doctored.

Sad but true.

Not to mention this wasn't mentioned once by the astute fact checkers at TPM. You'd think they'd want to at least clarify who the "Editor" was of the video, because, well, it looks like someone sympathetic to the Obama campaign was behind it. Why else doctor it? You can imagine the shitstorm that would ensue if it were Obama being setup. Oh well, at least we know who is behind the gas tax "attacks".

user-pic

LOL!!

Nice try.

There is nothing at all whatsoever that ties this to Obama.

The WP claims it was an Obama supporter who circulated the doctored video.

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/05/02/dirty_tricks_gone_viral.html?hpid=topnews

Hope they have a lawyer. He is suing for libel.

user-pic

It was posted by an Obama supporter? No shit.

There are millions of Obama supporters who have no connection to the campaign.

Tena
You honestly believe this wouldn't have been picked up by TPM if someone was trying to ratfuck Obamas's campaign? C'mon. Wouldn't YOU want to know?

So you'll agree that HRC is behind the muslim smear emails.

I screwed up. My post above was in reply to Mark Simmons.

Typical -- you can't win the argument (no rational person defends libel), so you change the subject. Transparent.

And the "Muslim" smears were equally contemptible, but Josh did not run them on the front page of TPM for a full day. But that distinction is, I am confident, is beyond your comprehension.

user-pic

You know what you should do? Put up your own diary about it.

Maybe if it's good enough Josh will pick it up.

Coming soon to a theater near you:

THE OBLITERATOR

STARRING: HILLARY STRANGELOVE CLINTON

That is what I am talking about.

A fighter not a whiner.

user-pic

Clinton has reams of policy papers and proposals she claims will be enacted when she gets elected President and fancies she'll be some sort of Legislator in Chief. Her crash-and-burn healthcare gambit in the early nineties proves she does not work well with others and it seems likely she would be rather horrible at convincing Congress to enact her legislative agenda.

Oregon is a vote by mail state so we should be getting our ballots soon.

I look forward to voting against Hillary in Oregon. I just hope it will be a done deal before I ever do.

user-pic

It took a fighter to vote for the $3 trillion war.

American history starts in 1992?

Great. Many in this crowd defend the dissemination of the Kantor libel. Even FOX corrects the record, but not Josh.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,354034,00.html
I would defend vigorously the expression of any and all sorts of opinions -- its the lifeblood of democracy -- but only at TPM would you find "people" who defend the dissemination of a doctored video designed to harm Kantor and tilt the election in Indiana. The First Amendment does not protect libel.

Oh stop saying it's actionable libel. To have a libel claim for something like being called a racist, Kantor would need to show special damages, which he doesn't have.

He needed to expend considerable resources to rebut the libel. One penny of special damages would suffice.

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/05/02/dirty_tricks_gone_viral.html?hpid=topnews

But Bette, he should not have to go to court; he should be able to rely upon award-winning sites like TPM to at least correct the record.

user-pic

Josh didn't post anything of record.

The Diary Posts are the responsibility of the diarist.

user-pic

And let me suggest again - put up a diary about it - see what happens.

Lay out your case to everyone.

It's going to take a fighter?

So now she not only dodged the sniper fire, she returned it?

user-pic

LOL!

You knew that. She dived in front of those people and saved them, too, remember?

Hey now Hillary is just being modest, the real reason why there wasn't any sniper fire is because a week before in private Hillary went there and single handedly took out all the snipers with her bare hands.

Hillary can do a wheelie... on a unicycle.

For a name like "Present" you are certainly living in the past.

It's gonna take a fighter, says The Monster.

4,000 wasn't enough.

Notice the big O and not a 0?

Gee, I wonder why.

This thing is over.

user-pic

Yes.

It is.

I feels it in my bones, in addition to having more or less heard it from Howard Dean last night.

Obama supporters - do you not believe that it will take a fighter, esp. in the general election? As a "Hillary Supporter" because I know she's crazy & a fighter (the ONLY kind of candidate that will be able to withstand the attacks during the general, and after).

Here's what would cause me to shift my support, gladly, to Obama:

1. Drop this "Uniter not a Divider" crap. It's handcuffing him, but more importantly *its over*. No one buys it anymore. It provides NO benefit with the general public.

2. LAUGH at Clinton. Make fun of her, using his intelligence, act as if she's no threat, that "I understand why she's fighting as she is, but you know...I mean, I almost feel bad for her."

3. When needed, turn into a freak and say at brutally as possible to the MSM, "you think thats a good question? [laughs]. Ok. Uh, lets see, blah blah blah. That good? Next?" Turn into a tough asshole.

Thats why I'm hoping Hillary ends up the nominee. Cause it WILL take a fighter. Does Obama have it in him? I've no idea. He hasn't shown it yet. I figure he DOES have it in him (he's a politician folks, he's probably trying to figure out the best way to "transition" into that type of campaign w/o upsetting all of the "Obama will change everything!" believers.) So hopefully we'll see it. If not, he's toast in the general.

Quick thought - we've watched the past 7 years as Bush has politicized *everything*. Non-partisan positions filled with repubs, etc. How will Obama restore "balance" w/o being called "a partisan thug" by the repubs? That is, he fires all the hacks Bush has inserted, and the Repubs/MSM are going to respond, "well, sure, thats understandable". I think not. Its reality.

Believe it or not, there was a time in presidential politics when people did mostly discuss issues, when Washington wasn't stuck in partisan gridlock and was actually able to respond to the problems of the American people. It used to be better, before Jim Wright was attacked, before Reagan... before Gingrinc.

Aren't we sick of the drama, the fighting, the playing victim that the Clintons bring?

Aren't we sick of reckless, knee-jerk cowboy diplomacy of the last eight years? Does Hillary need to say we'll "obliterate Iran?" Has the Democratic party just become a lapdog that only barks the corporate line when its leash is yanked on by the Republicans? Have we not the courage to separate ourselves from the corporate slime and to fight for the great Democratic values of peace, civil liberties, minority rights and economic opportunity?

user-pic

Ok, I'll mock you instead - every single incoming administration every single person in the outgoing resigns.

Every time.

And when the parties change - every one changes.

Anything else you want to make up as a problem that isn't real?

fookin tags.

Well frack it anyway it's time for BSG.

Have a great Friday night.

When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Hillary Clinton.

When Hillary Clinton gives you the finger, she's telling you how many seconds you have left to live.

Hillary is really really mad at George W Bush for letting her husband, President Bill Clinton, sign over that Indiana Manufacturing Plant to China, and ship it out there.

Hillary Tuzla Clinton says: "Shame on you George W. Bush for not stopping my husband, when he was the president, from endangering our national security by sending our national security plant to China."

Driving home I was listening to Sean Hannity on the radio. Normally I'd never listen to him. But he was talking about liberation theology and Obama's defense/rejection of Jeremiah Wright. It was stunning. I had to agree with everything he said. He talked about why it is impossible to believe the reasons Obama gave for condemning Wright. Then a black pastor dissected liberation theology, which is what Wright preaches. Hannity then took the stated mission of Obama's church, and substituted the word "white" for the word "black" wherever it appeared. With the word "white" the document became obviously racist. No white person could ever be elected President if they were a member of a church with such a stated mission. Yet using the word "black" instead of "white" Jeremiah Wright preached such things, and Obama aligned himself with it. The GOP has some very powerful stuff on Obama, and they will most definitely be using it.

And then I switched over to liberal Air America in the middle of the Randi Rhoades show. I used to love listening to her. Not any more. I can't stand her. Today a caller who was an Obama supporter tried to suggest that Obama supporters will vote for Hillary if she wins the nomination. Randi would have none of it. She insisted they would not. She even brought up the bogus issue about Hillary supposedly belittling Martin Luther King, which is of course false. She is so filled with hate for Hillary it is unbelievable. And then she proceeded to angrily denounce Wright, apparently not realizing that she was trashing the man Obama aligned himself with so closely. I guess Randi totally buys Obama's belated denunciation of Wright, and feels that Obama's slate is now as clean as if they were never associated. But of course it isn't. To think so is preposterous.

user-pic

OK, you mention Sean Hannity in a post and say that you agree with everything he says and your post has no credibility whatsoever. And you must have magical powers because Randi Rhodes was fired from Air America probably a month ago. Can't you even get the simplest things correct?

So tell us Otto, what does a Racist Scumbag, Aryan Nation Troll, such as yourself usually listen too. Is it your vast collection of Hitler's hate speeches!

Now we know what the "F" stands for.

All hail Otto:

King of the Trolls!

user-pic

Wright isn't into Liberation Theology. He's a Prophetic Christian. He was even asked about this during his famous presser last Monday. Not that this makes any difference . . . or does it?

The Clintons are experts at fighting - they fought everyone for 8 years in Washington. They thrive on it - the drama, the victimhood, the us vs them mentality. Unfortunately, most of what they got done were things that Republicans supported: NAFTA, Welfare reform, balanced budget, etc..

well, yes, the republicans had to support some of clinton's legislation since they took control of the House in 1994...

but i guess you are including AmeriCorps, the Family and Medical Leave Act, expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit, SCHIP, 1996 raise in the minimum wage as stuff that basically a republican president would have done. and since when is a balanced budget a bad thing?

i see your point. not much difference between GWB and WJC...

Received my ballot in the mail today, and no way will I vote for Hillary. I don't see her as "tough" or a "fighter" in the good sense of the word; I see her as someone who thrives on chaos and conflict, much of it her (and her husband's) own making. I've worked with people like that before, and it's a huge energy drain and terribly unproductive.

Thank goodness for Tivo.!

"Driving home I was listening to Sean Hannity on the radio. Normally I'd never listen to him."

This started the same as a penthouse forum letter. Better trolls please!!!

user-pic

LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!

At the risk of repeating myself - I'll repeat myself...

Hillary can fight all she wants - it don't mean $h1t.

As the days go by - and Supers commit - it gets harder and harder for Obama to lose the nom -- even if he only ties Clinton in the remaining 4 states that he is more likely to win by a substantial margin (NC, MT, OR and SD) -- and even if she kills him in the other 5 contests (including 70 - 30 splits in her favor for WV and KY) -- and even still if she gets about 60% of the remaining Super-Deez.

So yes -- it's all over but the crying -- but if you know 3rd grade math, you already knew that.

She can't win. The only reason to watch anymore is to see how she spins it when Obama hits the magic number.

My guess is that she'll claim that the Super Delegates who put Obama over have disenfranchised Florida and Michigan and use that as grounds for refusing to concede, at which point her backers flee from her like rats from a burning ship.

user-pic

Being a Republican is not equivalent to 'being a fighter'. It is like pretending to be a fighter, pandering to stupidity, wallowing in the septic tank of humanity and being a fucking asshole who spends the love all over corporations at the expense of flesh and blood humans.

McCain-Clinton '08

The Clintons also invented apple pie and flag pins.

I've lived in Portland all my life and if Hillary gets within six of Barack I will be absolutely shocked. Portland, at least, borders on hostile territory for her. I drive around the city during work and Barack yard signs must be up at least 10 to 1. She won't close here. I'll eat my hat if I'm wrong. Also, this is Monica country.

"Who is the elitist"

Hillary clinton" Rich people God Bless us"

[O’Reilly said,] “I'm not middle class, I'm a rich guy.” Clinton responded (in an awkward moment), “Rich people, God bless us. We deserve all the opportunities to make sure our country and our blessings continue until the next generation.”

Speaking as an Oregonian?

I never want to hear a politican refer to themselves as a 'fighter'. Ever again. It makes me want to do anything *but* vote for them.

re: they who mock me (er, or the one person)! I mock you back! I said "non-partisan" positions. See, there are a *lot* of positions each administration changes. But then are other positions they never change. Like if a President came into office and fired all IRS employees unless they republican. Or mail carriers. Bush admin is the 1st admin (that I know of) that politicized 1,000's of jobs that were previously "partisan free". Look it up, and wipe that egg off ya face! booooo-ya!

re: Tendrin. Er, if I understand correctly, you'd rather the Dem candidate stand there and absorb the blows, eh? Nice. At some point, realize that it'll never be what you hope. Only fighters can effect even 1% change against the disgusting, idiotic, 1-issue (fear), blah blah republicans.

Del7,

Please point to where in my post I actually said I just wanted them to 'absorb the blows'.

If you engaged your reading comprehension skills, you'd see that I only said I didn't want them to *refer* to themselves as 'fighters'. This is because it's a stupid, tired political meme that didn't work for Gore, didn't work for Kerry, and won't work for Hillary Clinton. Constantly proclaiming yourself a fighter does not convince people that you, you know, are a 'fighter'.

I've been told that it's a favorite of Shrum's and it's a well he always goes back to, so I'm not surprised to see Hillary using it.

None of this means that I don't expect politicans to do *political brawling*. Just that the use of the 'fighter' meme is tired and doesn't accomplish anything except eyes being rolled in a candidate's general direction so far as I'm concerned.

(also, it should be noted that I don't mean any offense to del7 -- just that I don't like words being shoved in my mouth. I never said what he seems to think I said. :))

Have you ever noticed how often she touches little kids in her commercials?

I mean, I guess it's better than Bill touching them... or Hillary's former pastor... but not much, really.

Scary.

The campaign dynamic has totally flipped.

At the beginning of the year, Obama had the positive message for change and the Hillary side scoffed at him as a snake oil salesman.

Now Hillary has become the "fighter for the people" and the Obama side are sulky whiners pushing hardly any message beyond "Hillary Sucks".

Tuesday will be very interesting.

Pathetic Clinton supporters, what will you do once your candidate finally is pushed to the side and OFFICIALLY loses? Whine like little bitches? Please tell me. And really, we don't need your vote in November. Stay home ok?

Now there's a great message for Obama! You've certainly come a long way from "change we can believe in".

Can't wait to see how "whine little bitches" plays in Indiana and North Carolina. It's uplifting!

Living in Oregon, I can say that this ad will do nothing for her in the districts that count. Nothing. Portland and Eugene --Obama country. I counted ONE Hillary sign in a wide swath of Eugene.
One f......sign.

Well, we can no longer say that Obama isn't a fighter. He recently fought with Jeremiah Wright. Of course, in doing so he was fighting with his own pastor, mentor, inspirer, and (former) campaign adviser. He was also fighting against ideas that were part of the cornerstone of the church to which he enthusiastically belonged for 20 years. And he was fighting against his own words just six weeks earlier when he said he could no more renounce Wright than he could his own racist, typical white person grandmother.

So tell us Otto, what does a Racist Scumbag, Aryan Nation Troll, such as yourself usually listen too. Is it your vast collection of Hitler's hate speeches!

This article needs a clarification: Oregon is vote-by-mail. I just got my ballot in the mail yesterday.
WE ARE VOTING NOW!
The votes will be counted on May 20th.
Ballots must be mailed no later than several days before May 20th or brought to a ballot receptacle or they will not count.

You know where supporting a gas tax holiday won't help you at all? The eco-centric Pacific Northwest. KEEP FIGHTING, HILLARY!

Hillary is running a good campaign here in OR -- unfortunately for her Barack's running an exceptional one. Ran into a nice young lady yesterday at the Hillsboro Farmer's Market handing out Hillary stickers. Good for her, except that I got my ballot the day before and I voted for Obama the day before and then the day AFTER that is the first evidence of Hillary. It's like they don't even know we vote by mail here. Hello! Obama office opened in downtown Portland a month ago, and then one opened in Beaverton near me several weeks ago. Hillary is a good candidate, I am sure she will go on to do many great things in life, but as far as winning Oregon or this election she is a day late and a dollar short.
