Hillary Up On The Air In June 3rd State
Here's another sign that Hillary's staying in until the end -- and perhaps intends to end the race on a positive note.
Hillary is up on the air in South Dakota, which votes on June 3rd, the last day of the voting, with this stock ad that we've seen in other states...
It excoriates Bush on the economy and presents her as a fighter for the middle class, with no mention of Obama.

At the risk of sounding like the nerdy accountant I am, how is she going to PAY for this? Is she trying to get out of the red or not? Step one is to control your spending.

I'm curious how long you can keep a campaign in debt, honestly. Like if she made it to the general election, would she have to pay off her bills finally?

It is both admirable and sad for Hillary to keep going. Even her own staff (according to reports) thinks she is done. So how hard must it be to get up every morning at 4AM and play-act your way through another day of trying to rally your supporters? It's got to wear thin. And to keep unloading money, just going through the motions, it's really sort of depressing. But at the same time, I'll give her credit, because there's no way I could keep it up.

I really do hope that she ends her campaign on a positive note, but I doubt it with news about her ardent supporters, Ferraro, calling Obama a 'sexist' for brushing dirt off his shoulders, and Hillary citing a report by Karl freakin' Rove as a reason for her to stay in the race.
May 20, 2008 10:09 AM | Reply | Permalink
I don't believe for a minute that Hillary has any plans to end this thing positively. I mean, what has she done to give that indication? Sure, she joined in the pillorying of Bush's Knesset shot and has vowed to seek unity at the end of the nomination process, but what has she done to make us believe that she really wants unity?
Every day she continues her denial of the undeniable by refusing to follow agreed-upon rules, changing numbers, channeling Rove, etc., her supporters, who have adopted her sense of entitlement, grow more hateful. Read the vitriol her followers are spewing constantly on Taylor Marsh. Read Ferraro's comments from yesterday.
Surely she sees this and, if she truly had in mind the best interests of the party, she would put an end to what's, in essence, a charade. That she hasn't done so makes me believe she's taking this thing to the convention and will pull out any and all stops at that point in an attempt to steal this thing.
I really, really hope I'm wrong.

It is the Obamites that are in denial.
At convention time either:
-FL and MI will be seated as voted which would result in less than 100 delegate difference between her and Obama. With the needed number increased to 2,210.
-Lawsuits will fly to get them seated. It is a curious bit of language the DNC used in their description of the "penalty". It didn't say the delegation would not be seated, it said the candidates would be stripped of pledged delegates. But all the delegates are already chosen. I take that to mean that they will all be seated and can vote as they please, unpledged. Like I said, lawyers will have a field day with the ineptitude of the DNC elders.
Either way this is going to a full vote with heavy last minute lobbying. Obamites would have people believe that BO is far ahead in the delegate count. With FL and MI included it is almost tied and Clinton is ahead in the popular vote.

It's highly unlikely that FL and MI will be seated as voted, if by that you mean full delegations, without the 50% penalty, and zero pledged delegates for Obama from MI.
And even in that scenario, Obama's delegate lead would still be insurmountable, especially given that the 55 uncommitted delegates would be free to vote for him. The best you can do is delay the inevitable.

It's common knowledge that Shrillary will accept nothing less than 100% of the delegates from Michigan, including all of the "Uncommitted" going to her. Why? Obama's name was not on the ballot, her's was the only one and therefore she deserves all of the delegates.
Wolfson reiterated again last night on CNN that there are no options other than the above they will accept in regards to Michigan and if they don't get what they want, they'll take this all the way to the convention.
When it someone going to swat away this annoying little gnat named Hillary???
Stay in, fine. But when you give reasons like the above as to why you should stay in, that divides people in your own party!

Actually, that is false.
Conventions are allowed to send and seat uncommitted delegates. These delegates can remain uncommitted, or vote for a candidate, just as the other pledged delegates are allowed.
This has happened in the past. See: Iowa Caucus, 1976. Uncommitted beat Jimmy Carter.

She'll probably win more votes today, but end up with fewer delegates because certain precincts are likely to be favored more because of past voting patterns. Whatever. fogu2 did you find a bank that will cash that check written in crayon???
Do math much?
Let's count Florida and Michigan.
right now
Obama 1994
Clinton 1912
There are 189 pledged delegates left. Obama will most certainly get 90 of those.
1994 + 90 = 2084
There are 20 Edward's delegates left. Even being absurdly generous Clinton no way gets more than 5 of those after Edward's endorsement.
2084 + 15 = 2099
Of the Michigan delegates 55 were uncommitted but in the state convention Obama secured some 36 of them with the others going to Unions, some of which he will probably get.
2099 + 40 = 2139
That means Obama needs 70 of the remaining 247 supers.
Ooops, what was that? Another Super for the big O.
Ooops there goes another, oops there goes another super delegate.
He's got high hopes...
