Hillary Reportedly Will Hold No Public Events Tomorrow

On MSNBC, Tim Russert just reported that Hillary was scheduled to appear on the morning shows tomorrow.

But, says Russert, she canceled all her appearances.

...actually, MSNBC has confirmed that she will hold no public events at all:

That's a pretty big deal. Any appearance might force her to publicly defend staying in the race, obviously.

Certainly, sexist, offensive, atavistic, over-generalising statements about Hillary voters are a feature of the more enlightened Obama supporters.

I am ashamed to share candidate preferences with people like this, really.

Certainly one of the oddest adjective strings I've seen recently.

"Sexist, offensive, atavistic, over-generalizing..."

Sexist? Oh yeah, Hillary is really holding high that feminist banner. Her campaign hung a pair of metaphorical nuts around her waist about a month ago and she's been displaying them at every opportunity.

Offensive? Well, coming after sexist, it's like following blue with sky. Atavistic? Overkill for crude - hence another virtual repetition. (It means throwback, is what it means.)

"Over-generalizing"? So Hillary is a logical proposition, and we're grossly expanding her scope?

I think this just proves that Dan_the_man is Dan_the_dumbass, and I'm ashamed to share this thread with her.

Dan_the_man,
Though poorly worded, I think the person you're ripping into was just saying that the fat lady is singing, meaning "it's over"...not that some woman who shops at a low price store is crying after "her candidate's" misfortune. Give the guy a break. Or just stop assuming things.

Asshole.

This dedication goes out to Hillary...

Sing it Roy!

It's finally over!
Thank god, I couldn't take it anymore.

user-pic

She's not withdrawing, but those shows were booked under the assumption she was going to win Indiana by a decent margin.

She doesn't want to spend the morning defending her decision to stay in.

I don't know...if she's not withdrawing she needs to get out their and spin, spin, spin, like she's never spinned (span? spun?) before. This is an interesting development.

Maybe she's tired and doesn't want to get up that early.

Maybe she's "bushed."

All those extra hours she had to spend getting up earlier than her opponents to put on makeup.

That's been my least favorite "complaint" of the entire campaign - speaking as a feminist.

Not necessarily. Her surrogates need to get out there and spin, spin, spin.

I disagree, she has been all about defending herself, being the tough one. If there is an ounce of decency left in her she will be calling a press conference for the early afternoon and ending her little game.

user-pic

That ounce is long gone - just half a gram left.

I almost feel sorry for her on those grounds. Can you imagine having to face the cameras early tomorrow morning when you've spent all your available energy on SELF-deception?

The only people deceiving themselves are those who still think Obama can win the presidency.

...but, but Hillary is proud of her Limbaugh victory!

I mean, it's an endorsement, right?!

Is it too early to say I'm going to sleep well tonight?

i am so pumped, i cant sleep and its midnight

i heard she is meeting up with her super delegates as well.

Its over.....us elites can sleep easily tonight and drink our latte's in the morning without shame

Have a safe drive home in your Prius.

Make it a triple!

True, you bought the nomination, and your investment paid off. Though it's a shame you won't be able to buy the presidency. But of course, that was the plan, and the rich keep getting richer.

As the Great Philosopher said:
"It ain't over 'til it's over."

user-pic

Yogi Berra is a great philosopher?

Who'd thunk?

Sweet bleedin' Jesus, I don't believe it.

Where did you "hear" that other data point, Mus-Hussein-Grove? Source, please?

They said it on the TV. On MSNBC, I think Brokaw said it.

Fineman and Russert both mentioned but in what context is in question....With Indiana still out there this is looking worse for her every minute that drips by...

Wow. Could it really be ...

user-pic

Let's not get carried away--Hillary could still win Indiana by a few thousand.

Which would mean Operation Chaos was the difference. She still loses.

user-pic

No need to bring up Operation Chaos--even if it gives Clinton the win, it's hard to prove and we don't want to look like whiners.

The important thing is that the race is over and the talking heads are finally admitting it.

user-pic

Are you suggesting that there were not 20,000 "Chaos" voters in all of Indiana?

There's one at my work. She voted for Hillary because she thinks McCain will have an easier time in the general election against Hillary.

So your friend is retarded?

Operation Chaos comes into play when (undeclared) superdelegates look at the numbers, not now.

With 217 pledged delegates to go, it looks like Obama will finish tonight about 180 delegates away from the magic number. Let's assume he only wins half of those remaining pledged delegates: 217/2 = 108. 180-108 = 72.

OK, so then 72 is the magic number. And approximately 270 superdelegates are undeclared, meaning only 1 in 4 needs to swing to Obama. The transparent meddling of Republicans in our primaries is convincing evidence on its face.

(Thanks, DemConWatch.blogspot.com, for making the math so easy for all of us.)

Tomorrow morning, I'm going to dine on foie gras, load up my Prius with a couple bottles of Evian and take a drive.

I take slight umbrage at the dining on foie gras part . . . but a little tofu will do me fine (and I think that would probably keep my elitist credientials intact). :P

Don't forget the arugula!

Don't forget the strychnine-laced Kool Aid

user-pic

ugh, please don't eat that. force-fed goose is not nice

At least you're not getting shot out of a cannon in Woody Creek.

"Buy the ticket, take the ride."

user-pic

She isn't dropping out, not yet. I think it would be embarrassing for her to go on when they haven't declared Indiana yet. There are too many provisional ballots from their deranged ID law to declare a result tonight and you have up to 12 days or something to show up at the elections office with the necessary ID.

Dude -- like it's not embarrassing to have Tim Russert report that you've canceled your morning show appearances? Like it's not embarrassing to have Obama all over the morning shows with no counter-spin from you?

Uhn-uh. No way. Next thing that happens is a statement from the campaign denying rumors that she has decided to drop out.

Which means that it's a matter of days.

Also embarrassing to have already made an acceptance speech. Well, maybe it'll be embarrassing. Still waiting.

user-pic

Finally!

Whaaaaaaaaaaa...?

Or in Scooby talk.. roh roh.

Mrs. Clinton’s advisers acknowledged that the results of the primaries were far less than they had hoped, and said they were likely to face new pleas even from some of their own supporters for her to quit the race. They said they expected fund-raising to become even harder now; one adviser said the campaign was essentially broke, and several others refused to say whether Mrs. Clinton had lent the campaign money from her personal account to keep it afloat.

I think that 10 mil in one day was BS, unless part of it was a loan from Bill

wasn't there an article basically saying as much? that all that mattered about the 10mil was that it made a good story, and since it was unverifiable, it was amazing how great a job the Clinton camp did with selling that? Where did I read that?

user-pic

Whaaaaaaaaaaa...?

Sorry for the double post there... TPM posting hiccuped.

Understandable, tonight.

Can ya hear it guys the FAT LADY is gettin ready to sing!!!

BO closes in IN, and HRC doesn't want to have to answer any questions about her campaign. However, there is real consideration for her staying in through WVa, she will crush BO there and that would be embarrassing if she's not still in the race...

In my best world of amazing dreams, BO and HRC have discussions tomorrow. BO helps her with campaign debts and they arrange a graceful exit after WV. BO wins Oregon and they both let it go on a win. HRC throws support to BO. MI and FL get a deal to be seated. McSame goes down to a 45 state defeat in Nov. Ahh well, one can dream....

I want some of what you're drinking.

Please oh please oh please oh please....

user-pic

kinda sucks to have given a victory speech and then not win, or have the results so close it doesn't even feel like a win

with no congratulations to Obama for NC, kind of poetic justice here

te-he

I'd love to hear the ultimate concession speech tomorrow. let's get on with beating mccain

Yeah, I loved that, she 'commended' Obama and supporters, not even congratulated, where he stomped her. But he congratulated her outright even tho the results are in doubt in IN...

As I watch this, I see the media giving themselves cover. They finally got their fight, an old-fashioned primary brawl, Clash of the Titans stuff, with REAL results at the end.

It will not long feed the media's Ungoliantesque hunger...

The mayor of Hammond, Indiana, is now strongly insinuating that electoral fraud has occurred/is occurring in Lake County. CNN is stoking the fire. The mayor is a Clinton supporter.

I really hope they don't try the 'Electoral fraud' routine. Can't these people accept a loss and go away?

We're not as good at losing as the Obama people.

user-pic

You are correct, since Obama is winning.

Well, that 11-state losing streak should have given you plenty of practice.

user-pic

That's the same dude that complained about the Lake County schools bussing students to early voting.

Terry McAuliffe, head on over to Westvirginiatucky. That's a game changer.

lol just release the votes already arghhhhhhhh

user-pic

Could this mean my state of Oregon truly does become irrelevant again (and not the CLinton sort of way)...?

russert just called it over!

Now they have on the mayor of Evansville, Indiana. Can CNN bring on the mayor of Gary, maybe?

user-pic

Go home Hillary!!

THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!! FOR HILLARY!

That's "EXCELLENT NEWS!!" ... and where is idiotic, anyway?

He was here on earlier threads.

And, his caps lock works!

Pat on the head for goatlife. How foolish I was to doubt your optimism in another thread.

Stubborn optimist. Like a goat.

Tim Russert (with appropriate solemnity): "We now know who the Democratic nominee will be".

Well put, I say.

Leave it to an Obamite to sing the praises of that pig.

Barack Obama and all your Hoosiers and Tarheels, I raise my middlebrow beer to you (it might've been a bargain bin shiraz, but the allergies're acting up).

Oh my God!!! IT"S OVER!!

ITs Actually Over~!!!

I'm drunk with joy

I'm gasping...it really is FINALLY over...

Haha! Russert just called it: "We now know who the Democratic nominee is going to be."

MSNBC, time 12:10am.

I don't know about fraud. But I strongly suspect that the slow reporting from Lake Co. is a scheme to deny HRC the boost of a clear victory. They're keeping it late enough that everyone will have gone to bed with it "too close to call."

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

The monster is dead. Long (don't) live the monster!

Heartfelt thanks, NC and IN. On to McCain!

Also intrade betting has Clinton dropping like a rock.

She is done.

Nostrovia!

It's an announcement like this that makes Idiotic's absence deafening.

Prophetically, Hillaryis44.org just went down from CPU bandwidth excess.

Did the chickens go home to roost?
Where is gotalife?

Failing that...
Would somebody please do a parody?

DEWEY WINS!!!!

It is finished.

Consummatum est.

She is toast. (Bill is spreading butter and jam on her as we speak.)

user-pic

That's a visual I could have done without.

P.S. Ding dong, the witch is dead.

Ugh, I'm getting nauseous with all this dream ticket talk. Haven't we had enough of the Uber-Veep?

yeah no kidding the real dream ticket is Obama + whoever he thinks its best for VP (that isnt Clinton)

user-pic

As much as I despise Hillary, I actually think she'd make an okay VP, should Obama choose her.

VP job in elections is to be attack dog. She could do that.

Plus, a lot of people do passionately like her and as VP her negatives for repugs would not be as motivating.

She also cancelled all of her public events tomorrow. Either she is preparing for Victim Tour '08 or they are trying to figure out the graceful exit.

THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS!!! FOR HILLARY!!!

user-pic

Stick a fork in her

And on a high not!

Momentum baby!

user-pic

Whew! Done and done! Let's go get McCain!

".. I strongly suspect that the slow reporting from Lake Co. is a scheme to deny HRC the boost of a clear victory".

The fly in that ointment is that a "clear victory" for Clinton required her to win Indiana BIG. It's all about delegates, Bubba. A close shave of a win was tactical victory, but strategic defeat.

And on a high not!

Momentum baby!

note dammit, i can't even type i'm so excited

It's a high not -- for Hillary.

Bertrand,
The erudite political salon you were referring to is actually Hillaryis44.com, but your report of the malfunction continues to be correct.

I am so very happy. Sleep is overrated.

Paging James Carville,

If Hillary loses both North Carolina and Indiana; Mr. Carville would you call that a triple ball breaker?

user-pic

ROFLMAO

Classic.

No, but it's two states full of Judases.

Where are Otto, Gotalife, MathewWeaver etc?

LMAO!!!!!!!!!! Hilarious.

If they were real dems, they would be here with some analysis. The Rush/Troll movement failed big-time. The silence says it all.

Obama won by disenfranchising the voters of Florida and Michigan and spending five times as much money. Another victory for money over democracy. How's that for a cogent analysis?

Pretty shallow, actually. Nice glasses, though, monkey.

By shallow you mean obvious.

You approve of Hillary siding with the rule breakers? Disregarding rules (and laws) is more of a GWB thing, isn't it?

Besides, didn't Hillary have a difficult fight with "uncommitted" in Michigan?

Oh, and Obama didn't disenfranchise Florida and Michigan - the DNC has this pesky thing about following rules. If the DLC was still in charge, that wouldn't be a problem. If they were in charge, we wouldn't have to worry about those annoying primaries and just move to Hillary's coronation.

They're drowning their sorrows with shots of Crown Royal.

user-pic

they are at little green footballs or free republic strategizing for the general election

Thank god. Now I can go to bed.

To quote the famous yet fictional President Jed Bartlet:

"What's next?"

She cant do shows tomorrow. She has to take that pantsuit to the cleaners so she can campaign for Obama for president!

How does one have a ticker tape parade on the internet?

Oh My God...

The newsmax google ad that popped up above asks... "Is Obama Finished?"

I'd say he's just about finished digging her grave.

It's time to hand it to Obama.

It's now time to start talking about John McCains
100 year Iraq war

McCains temper.

McCains corruption in the Keating five scandle.

McCain calling his wife a slut and a cunt in puplic.

McCains good freind and bigot supporter Reverend Hagee.

Time for the real battle.

I think it's been established that the preacher stuff doesn't work.

Oh really? When did you establish that?

About the same time we established that you were the only rage-fueled troll who dared go on this thread.

I appreciate your avatar. In this situation.

I scanned the thread backwards - you, like, recapitulated the history of trolling in your twenty-odd posts.

Believe me when I say that we have heard every single thing you are saying before. But it's kind of cute hearing it all from you this time.

Hee-haw away, troll. You can't spoil anybody's good time today.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
hoo!

I'll second that.

Good work, we'll remember the part you played in this.

user-pic

I hope this is it. It's time to pull all the factions together and make plans to take on McCain. I have been an Obama supporter for some time, and I hope this sends a message that voters respond to decency and honesty in a campaign.

I'm as chuffed as anyone else here, but . . .

. . . to quote Fast Eddie Felson of Oakland, CA:

"The game's isn't over until Minnesota Fats says it's over."

Once she gets out officially, then I'll heave that sigh of relief.

Until then . . .

Woo-hoo? Come on, just a little one.

woohoo!

She's cancelled ALL her public appearances tomorrow!
It's really over.

user-pic

She's staying in tomorrow morning to sharpen her elbows for the "nuclear option".

A word of caution about the Indiana contest. Lake county is 71% white voters, and the vast majority of them are the blue collar voters that have gone strongly for Hillary. It depends on what part of Lake county is still out that will determine if Senator Obama can catch Hillary or not.

Of course. And the significance of winning IN by 5,000 votes would be what, exactly?

It's squat. This ain't the electoral college. It really doesn't matter who's up by 5,000 at the end of the night. The spin game is over, and delegate math is all that's left.

Ding, Ding....give the man a cigar. It's the MSM who get all worked up about who "won", but it doesn't mean a damn thing. Hillary "won" Nevada but wound up with one fewer delegate.

You seem to be celebrating the victory of money over democracy. But if the Democrats used the same primary rules as the Republicans in winner-take-all-states, Hillary would have won the nomination months ago. As it is, it seems like the Republicans will nominate their strongest candidate while Democrats will nominate the candidate who can't carry the big and important swing states. Funny how things balance out in the end.

The money is democracy.

Living in Michigan, I really wanted to vote for Obama. Since he and all the other major candidates, except for Clinton, played by the rules and kept their names off the ballot, I had to vote for "Uncommitted," along with 40%.

Not able to do much about that, I donated $25 every month. That's my vote. That's one of the reasons Obama has sealed the deal. And that's democracy, monkey.

Apparently Sen. Clinton has cancelled all of her public events tomorrow.

Make of that what you will.

Going to bed, friends, gonna watch the returns until I pass out.

Great night.

To all my fellow Obama supporters, congratulations! It's been a long time coming!

Should be a good day for the Obama campaign!

current CLinton spin:

And the message to the media and to the superdelegates is:

Everybody, let's take a deep breath. Let's look at the results. Let's think hard about the choices we face. Let's not rush Sen. Clinton.

user-pic

Holy shit.. at home finally and saw tweety just say something close to insightful. He was countering another commentator on MSNBC that the fateful mistake Clinton in this whole campaign back in 2002 when she voted for the war, and that gave someone like Obama the foundational opening to walk through.

That is why CLinton was always a "hold your nose if she gets the nod" candidate for me. Just as Kerry was (and lost) and I think deep down Democrats learned the lesson of 2004 and saw that we can square the circle with that kind of life-and-death judgement.

A rare, lucid moment. Keith's reading her "austere" letter was a hoot!

She cast the vote hoping to ensure the centrist/right side of the country she was "tough" enough for the White House.

Mistake #1 -- do not play with the lives of American soldiers when it comes to furthering your political gains.

She then was too calculating and decided to sit out 2004.

Mistake #2 -- have the guts to run against an unpopular president. I'm betting she could have won in 2004 against GWB. She was made to run against a Rovian candidate.

She then surrounded herself with people so insulated from the real world that they lost touch with what was really happening.

Mistake #3 -- never get lax about campaigning. Always run as if you were the underdog.

3 strikes -- you're out.

And the country is better for it. We do not want to give credence to "rule by dynasty" and we have come mighty close to it.

Monroe county just came in with more results making it under 20k spread now.

16,609 difference now.

Hip, hip, hooray!!!!!

user-pic

Is Hillary taking the morning off to consult with Baghdad Bob?

Russert declared it's over? It was over a long time ago but BigMouthMedia didn't like it so they spent the last two months cramming their phony electibility\patriotism freakshow into our face. Clinton didn't lose as much as the media did. Obama won. The media lost. Big Time.

That close up of Russert's face is a little horrifying.

Jon Stewart asked Chris Matthews if that was really Russert's head, or was it just a carrying case for a head.

Indeed. He can't moderate a debate worth a damn, but he can beat everyone to calling the nominee.

Added to which, Pat Buchanan looks like he could use a few shots of Red Bull

He'd suck a valve.

Maybe Russert will replace Clinton with the 'fat lady'.

I'm a Clinton supporter - with my heart and wallet.

But I respectfully cry uncle.

Congradulations to Barack -

our next president.

Thank you sir. You're more than welcome to join us in the battle against McCain.

Or thank you ma'am, if that's Nell rather than Neil. In any case, we're all in this together, now!

I'm a tired old goat, but I believe you're right.

our next president. Not yet he isn't. This will not be over until he beats McCain.

There's a lot of work ahead yet.

user-pic

No crying uncle... cry "it's time to kick McCain's ass sideways and upside down. Our nation cannot afford a Bush 3rd term and I don't want my kid growing up with a another 2 theocon/constitutional=toliet-paper justices on the SCOTUS.

But that is kinda the point, we all are basically on the same team.... so let's get fuckered up for a few days hoisting a few (even if only metaphorical over the intertubes)... then get to work taking our country back!

"Our nation cannot afford a Bush 3rd term"

You should have thought of that before buying the nomination for a candidate who can't carry the big swing states.

user-pic

I have thought of that, which is why I support the stronger candidate who has won more states, more delegates and more votes, and can effectively put getting out of the disaster that is Iraq on the table.

Is it just me, or is anybody else gonna kind of miss her?

Does anyone else feel sad for Hillary? She made such a great "Rocky". I'll miss the fight.

Um . . . .

NO. NO. NO. NO, and NO.

Wait, a sec, let me check how I'm feeling about this . . .

Okay. That would be NO.

The S.S. Hillary is going down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdE_jlyRndw

user-pic

Miss her?

The best thing about hitting yourself on the big toe with a 16oz. hammer is that it feels so damn good when you stop.

In late Jan / February, there was a moment when I was like, "Damn, this is a pretty good show."

But that feeling vanished in March and April. I don't want to say anything unnecessarily mean, to avoid alienating our new comrades in the fight against McSame. But the last couple of months haven't been good for the party.

Good luck carrying Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, and California. But you might have a shot at Montana and Mississippi.

The irony is that if the Democrats had the same, more rational rules as the Republicans, Hillary would have won months ago and we would have the strongest candidate in each party.

Yes & No
Bittersweet it is but she fought a hell of a fight. I will not miss her tearing at the party and Barack but she had a dogged determination that cannot be overlooked. She did in my opinion make Barack a better candidate.

Does anyone else feel sad for Hillary?

Certainly not. First, she made ugly divisions in the Democratic Party. Second, she furthered memes that the country needs to get away from: education isn't to be trusted, elistism, etc. Third, she is going back to one of the most elite clubs in the country -- and she can probably be a Senator for life.

That's more power than the entire readership of TPM will probably have. Combined.

There is nothing sympathetic about her.

Mike Huckabee scares me more as a politician ("we have to reword the Constitution to get it more in line with God's language") and yet he comes off more sympathetic.

I will, in time. Obliteration was really poor, ugly stuff. But she's learned how to campaign, and her and Bill will help on that score come the fall, if they want to.

user-pic

Could I be so lucky as to be able to say tomorrow: Bye, bye BILLARY!

user-pic

let's be decent. we can't go down a level now that the real race begins. we need all the support we can get, and it does no one any service to jeopardize what we've worked so hard for.

smile. be magnanimous. find points of agreement and let's work together.

we really can't do this on our own.

As Judy Garland once said to Elaine Strich at 8 a.m. after a long night:

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but Good Night."

user-pic

I've been saying for days that if she lost Indiana on Tuesday, she'd concede on Wednesday. Right now, all that's left is convincing the Big Dog that he's the LAST dog. I'm convinced Bill is the only thing standing between Obama and the nomination. The Clinton campaign is in full crisis mode. Tonight's the night. If she doesn't concede tomorrow, there's gonna be hell to pay. But I think she's writing her concession speech right now.

hear, hear! I second that as a former Hillary voter and currently a very big Obama fan!

in response to imani360. damn you TPM!

yeah. . .remember me? you insulted my intelligence, you questioned my judgement and you were just plain mean spirited.

now you need me so the Democrats don't tank in the GE.

you think we are just going to hold hands with you and sing Kumbaya?

idiots. THESE are the chickens coming home to roost.
now, go ahead and tell me you don't need the Clinton Supporters in your Democratic Party. . Tell us to go **** our selves. . yeah, that's what I thought!

Kumbaya, my love, Kumbaya . . .

Kumbaya, my love, Kumbaya . . .

Roe v Wade, my love, Roe v Wade . . .

These Obama elitists have their money and that's all they care about. With McCain as president they'll have even more of it, and that's what they really care about. Obama is just the means to that end.

Every vote counts -- why don't you do your part to keep McBush out of the White House?

Nice fight, Hillary... but now it's BAMA-TIME!!!

Bed-Stuy Resident for Barack Obama!!!!

See that you Obama supporters are just gloating and continuing to make nasty comments about Clinton. Many people feel that she was a better choice and would have made a great president. Intend to vote for Obama in November but without enthusiasm or the belief that he will actually win. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong. Obama will need all the support he can get and if you want to those who prefer Clinton into your corner tone down your nastiness.

I've been an Obama fan from the beginning, and I hope you don't take the actions of the few to represent the sentiments of the many. Your candidate has fought a terrific battle, but now that we have a nominee—presuming Obama is the nominee—he could really use your help.

There are far too may Kool-Aid drinkers in the Democratic Party. That they want to continue to insult Hillary and the people whose support they need only shows what arrogant elitist losers they really are. They can but the nomination by spending five times as much money, but they won't be able to buy the presidency. This is the same gang that nominated Dukakis, Mondale, and Kerry. Except that their pastors didn't hate America.

Cue the sad Sinatra! The moment we've been waiting for! This is better than when I saw the Red Sox beat the Yankees in Game Six of the 2004 ALCS from the front row at Yankee Stadium. Bye, Hillary!

You'd better say good by to the presidency while you're at it, losers.

CNN just called it for Hillary.

user-pic

maybe she can go out on some sort of high note now

No events tomorrow for Hillary?

It's All O-VER!

WHY IS HILLARY DISENFRANCHISING KENTUCKY, WEST VIRGINIA, OREGON, MONTANA, SOUTH DAKOTA, AND PUERTO VALLARTA LIKE THIS???!

Puerto Vallarta?

Hahahahahaha.

And Leonidas, king of the Spartans, shouts: “Fight with spirit,
Spartans; perhaps we will dine today among the ghosts!”

As a fervent Obamite, I respect Hillary's mettle. What she lacked in tact, she made up with brute force. Can anyone deny the historical dimensions of this contest?

user-pic

Turn out the lights, the party's over.

I would say it's over. You're right, it is very exciting. It's time to start practicing the phrases "President McCain" and "The Iran War."

user-pic

sour grapes don't become you

Neil B and laternighter, thank you for posting in this thread, and for posting in the manner that you did. HRC has been a formidable opponent and I'm not counting her out yet... and I hope and think that Obama supporters here will emulate the class and graciousness of their candidate. I have so much respect and admiration for HRC's supporters. This has been a very difficult campaign for all of us.

"I hope and think that Obama supporters here will emulate the class and graciousness of their candidate."

Bwaaahaaaahaaaahaaaahaaaahaaaaahaaaaaahaaaahaaaahaaahaaahaaahaaaahaaa!!!

Anyone who thinks that whore pig Russert speaks for the Democratic party is crazy. It ain't over till the lady sings. It's amazing to me why any Democrat would vote for the weaker candidate and campaigner, but then, I guess a lot of Democrats have gotten very comfortable losing elections. I truly hope that those who are celebrating today will still be celebrating on election day in November. Because if you're not, I'll be here to remind all you losers that "I told you so."

user-pic

Does your rant make an sense even to you?

You don't make an sense, loser.

So what are you planning on doing in November? You obviously have strong opinions.

user-pic

LOL all charm and light.

It's amazing to me why any Democrat would vote for the weaker candidate and campaigner

Coming from a Hillary supporter I can only assume that's a rhetorical question directed at yourself. But, playing along with your flawed assumptions, what does it say about your candidate that she's losing in every possible metric to a "weaker candidate and campaigner"? That argument only works if she, in fact, demonstrates that she's the opposite of both of the above, and ...

Oh, sorry about that, my phone's ringing: it's Reality and it wants to speak to you about your premises. Funny thing, Reality. Here's the wake-up call: if your "better campaigner" and "better candidate" keeps losing to an "unvetted rookie," then your argument collapses in on itself faster than Mark Penn after a donut binge.

Your race-baiting failed.
Your working-class pandering failed.
Your win-on-Super-Tuesday arrogance failed.

Time to reassess. You're welcome to join us as we pivot to take on McCain, but that's assuming you actually want to defeat him in November. If so, let's get to work.

Wake up and smell the coffee. Obama spent five times as much money and he still lost Indiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and Michigan - the most important swing states. He only won North Carolina because every black person voted for him because he was black. If the Democratic voters of Florida and Michigan had not been disenfranchised Hillary would be the nominee today. Or if the Democrats used the same, much saner primary rules as the Republicans in winner-take-all states Hillary would be the nominee. The only reason that Obama will be the nominee is because he's a black man with a lot of money. And if you think that's enough to make him the president, you're in for a rude awakening come November.

user-pic

He wasn't even on the ballot in Michigan. Your incoherent lunacy doesn't even come close to reality.

LATERNIGHTER: Good luck with that appeal to we 'elite', at least for tonight. After all, her hopes have been 'obliterated'. Don't be 'bitter', for beyond that 'threshold' lies... well, you surely get my drift. But, tell me, has Obama himself ever said anything about Clinton that has offended your sensibilities? If so, what was it?

As this thread winds down, good night to all of you who have shared this exhilarating, rewarding, historic night.
Fears allayed, hopes renewed.
Hillary may not sleep as contentedly as we will, but she will surely awake to what seems like a new day.
What she chooses to do will be important for her, but not necessarily for the march of historical events.
I'm old enough to recall an earlier but stillborn prediction: "Please get out out of the new road if you can't lend a hand, for the times they are a-changin'."
I said that.

Yea, you don't need working class Democrats. You don't need elderly voters. You don't need Hispanics or women. All you limousine liberals need is your money, huh?

Yep, all 1.5 million of us limousine liberals donating $25 at a time thwarted your multi-millionaire insider. I'm sure you lose sleep every night about the plight of the working class white and/or Latino.

Being generous and assuming that you do, you might want to take a closer look at the track record of your candidate. You've been played for a fool, but it happens to the best of us from time to time. It's time to let it go.

You're the one that's a fool if you think Obama can win in November. And you're elitist arrogance only makes that more certain.

"you're elitist arrogance" (and ""You'd might as well..." below) doesn't make an sense.

What are you, the replacement troll? Don't tell me, all the paid trolls are gone and you just located the Intertubes.

OK, I agree with everybody who says it's time to play nice with Hillary.

But it's also time for her to decide if she wants a political career under Pres. Obama or not. If she does, then she has to play a lot more than nice. She has to get out there and work - for him.

If not - well, all this crap about "We Hillary supporters will leave you high and dry", statistically speaking, is crap. It doesn't work like that.

Anyway, monkey, you fool, look around you. Events will make us glad we have somebody who's willing to think differently as our political leader. The shit-storm hasn't begun to break.

Thank you!

I have always felt it was disingenuous for Clinton supporters to want to be "courted" after this campaign. I think they are just looking for some attention.

Everyone I've talked to, regardless of whom they supported already knows exactly what they will do should their candidate not be the nominee. This includes "sitting it out" or even "voting for McCain" or even "writing in their candidates name".

The point is that they already knew.

And I suspect you already know what you will do too, regardless of your vote being courted.

Therefore, we don't need to. You already know what you will do in November. And that's cool.

LOL
as one disgruntled voter once said

"I am above all of this squabbling. . I Will just VOTE FOR NADER and vote my conscious.

hey! Look! Nader is running!

You'd might as well vote for Nader since he's going to lose too.

Such a bitter monkey.

Ignorance is bliss.

Nader is hardly voting one's conscience. Do you remember the year he was on the ballot but refused to campaign? I'm sure you can find a better 3rd party candidate -- hell, write one in!

Be back in November just to say I told you so.

On the bright side, after four years of McCain, Hillary should have no trouble beating him in 2012.

WHERE ARE MY CLINTONISTAS AT?

I had almost forgotten why I stopped reading TPM reader comments.

Oh yeah, that's why.

In a couple days they're going to stop playing the Hillary "full speed to the Whitehouse" sound byte and the overwhelming CW is that she stands no chance and/or simply is trying to destroy Obama. In other words, she'll be spoken of as a joke or destructive for the sake of destruction of the presumptive nominee.

If the rules had ben different, Obama would have used different strategies. As it was, his campaign was incredibly efficient, and obviously effective.

If FL and MI hadn't disenfranchised themselves by not playing by the established rules, then all candidates would have campaigned there and the primaries may have meant something. As it is, they are meaningless. However, don't be deluded into thinking that there won't be a compromise that allows their delegates to be seated.

You keep mentioning money, but you should consider the source of the money. Clinton raised a respectable amount, but the sources were overwhelmingly corporate bundlers and maxed out individuals. Obama's fundraising sources were mostly individuals donating small amounts, many for the first time.

More striking to me was the tone of the campaigns - Bill Clinton said it himself back when he was a candidate: "if one person is trying to scare you, and the other is trying to get you to think, which should you vote for?".

I do think that the lengthy primary has been good for two main reasons - almost every mudball that can be thrown at obama has been thrown (no doubt the Republican machine will dig up more, but no one can say he hasn't been well vetted). Also, the number people registering as Democrats is extremely encouraging for November.

Gaaah - TPM comment gremlin strikes again - the above was in repsonse to rstephen (the glasses-wearing monkey avatar) at 3:52am...

What exactly is 'FULL SPEED AHEAD' for HRC? Seems she could be ticketed for obstruction of traffic....

She's not quitting (unless this is where she plans to announce that she's done)

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/07/clinton.westvirginia/index.html

in reality. Though what she says is not so different from him, she's just saying what

she thinks people want to hear. Obama means business, I think, and that would leave her

out. Hilary has many supports on largemingle c o m, it is also a nice singles communitry

for celebrity bbw, big beautiful women, bhm and their admirers to interact each other!
