GOP Loses Top Potential Recruit For Fossella's Seat

The Republicans are out of luck in the open House seat of Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY). Their favored candidate, Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donovan, has now opted against running. The GOP's attention will now turn to state Sen. Andrew Lanza and county clerk Stephen Fiala, both lesser candidates.

Had Donovan run, he would have been heavily favored to win the seat, which was the only New York City district to vote for President Bush in 2004.

His decision is part of a pattern the NRCC has had to deal with in candidate recruitment: If the downsides of defeat aren't bad enough, victory brings the "reward" of serving in what is expected to be a powerless minority. It's difficult, to say the least, to get up-and-coming local Republicans to sign on to something like that.

No Republicans!

YES! No Republicans!

jefo

Is that an announcement from BO camp ? Link ?

sadly no, just wishful thinking.

However I am certain that it won't be Hillary Clinton ;)

But if John McCain chooses Joe Lieberman who has been attacking Obama from behind Wallstreet Journal editorials, I feel that Senator Obama should respond by getting Sen. Chuck Hagel or Joe Biden as his VP

If McCain chooses Mitt Romney as VP, then Obama should select Jim Webb as his VP.

If McCain picks up Mike Huckabee, then Obama should get Kathleen Sebelius.

Chuck Hagel is a Republican. No republicans. If the president goes down, then the Republicans take over - please stop this!

You will drive me nuts with this. No Republican Veeps. NO!

No. Screw Joe Lieberman, he's doesn't actually draw independent votes. Mostly because all the independents in Conneticut who voted for him are now saying they'd vote against him. Kos commissioned a poll and found that Lamont would win by a substantial amount if the election were held now.

The great thing about stories about Fossella's secret life (and Spitzer's, and Paterson's, and McGreevey's) is that they spin out screamingly in tabloid town...no place this side of London has papers like the NY Daily News and the Post, every New Yorker's guiltiest pleasures, certainly mine. Part of living here is having no shame about dumpster diving for a discarded Post. In the matter of Mr. Fossella's relatives having been secretly aware of his other family, the Post offered, "CHEATO VITO KIN HELPED SIN." Is this a great town or what?

Any chance of a recall vote on the Junior Senator from the great state of Connecticut?

I mean, it's the Constitution State, right? Also known as the Nutmeg State? But they never call it the Backstabbing Twit State, do they?

HAHA! If the Republicans can hatch a plan to take down the Democratic Governor of California and replace him with a damned Republican then could the Democrats of Connecticut please find a way to dump the shameless asshole Joe ....... please!
