Fossella Friend: He's Planning To Run Again

There seems to be a serious obstacle in the way of GOP leaders who want to get rid of Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY), in the wake of his DUI arrest and admission of having a child outside of his marriage.

Namely, the obstacle would be Fossella himself.

Former Rep. Guy Molinari, a political mentor of Fossella, told the New York Post that the Congressman was "puzzled" by all the talk of who else might run for the seat. "He's not just inclined to run," Molinari said. "He plans on running."

Fossella can take some heart in a new SurveyUSA poll showing that a majority of his constituents say he should run again. An actual campaign could change things, but for now the only driving force against him is the party elite, not the people he represents.

Have you ever spent any time in Staten Island? That poll doesn't surprise me.

HEY - I am from the Isle of Staten and am excited he's running for reelection. Hopefully we'll finally get a dem representative :)

Hey, I think he should run again too! Go Fossella! Stand up and fight for your right to deceive and dissemble! Spend that GOP money!

bring it, vino!

That poll must have been taken only on the South Shore of the island.

Personally, I would love to see Vito run again. If he does, he will be the easiest of the GOP candidates to take down. Other local GOP pols- our DA, Dan Donovan, State Senator Andy Lanza, or City Councilman Jim Oddo are light years better than anything Vito ever was or could be.

If Vito runs again, look for the Democrats to take back NY-13 for the first time in about 30 years.

Does anyone have an idea of how much delegates and pop votes HRC will get in total in WV and KY?

I have no clue what her popular vote tally would be, but I know OR, SD and MT totals, that Obama is expected win are likely to neutralize the WVA, KY & PR totals for her and shouldn't affect his overall popular vote count in the end.

A commenter over at Kos reports that the poll was taken the day of the family news coming out.

May be call me socially too liberal. I'd rather see him step down for drunk driving rather than having a affair and a child outside his marriage. I think it's own business how he wants to conduct his personal life.

I don't know the guy and I would on any day would like to see him replaced by a democrat. But the New York media are having a feasting, pictures of his mistress and daughter flashed on the front page of the post and stuff.

I agree. The affair means nothing (to me). The drunk driving is the big deal.

Oh, come now...we've had a dry drunk in office for 8 years, and he's done just a heckuva job...

Vito's denial matches Sen Clinton's.

It wouldn't be a big deal if the GOP platform wasn't built on hypocrisy.

Very high-minded to say the affair and non-marital child mean nothing. But this is about hypocrisy. Congressman Fossella is a family values conservative who voted to impeach Bill Clinton.

I hope he runs. The NY media will drag him through the mud until he is either defeated in November or even more humiliated than he is today (if that's possible).

Fossella is a Republican's Republican and not afraid to run a real Republican. Like Hillary Clinton, he is not afraid to destory his party to forward personal gain.

McCain-Clinton '08

I suspect what will bring him down will not be the affair in and of itself but (1) more information coming out about how his mistress travelled around with him on taxpayer dollars, and (2) that he lied to his mistress and told her he was separated. In addition to the general hypocrisy.
