Former Hillary Campaign Manager Considering Working For Obama
Patti Solis Doyle, one of the closest of Hillary confidantes, is informally discussing the possibility of working for Obama in the general election. Already.
That the woman who actually coined the expression "Hillaryland" would be discussing this at this juncture -- when the official position of the Hillary campaign is that this thing is far from over -- is pretty striking.
Indeed, here's what Hillary spokesperson Howard Wolfson had to say when asked about this:
"I intend to be working in the general election for Sen. Clinton," said Wolfson. "I find any other speculation offensive."
Ouch.

Isn't she also considering writing a book about the campaign?
And isn't Woolfson considering that as well, even though he has vehemently denied it?
Face it, you 17 million Hillary voters. Even the campaign think it's over. And, it is. OVER.

One of these days there all going to be in some meeting and Mark Penn will excuse himself to go to the bathroom. Then out the window they'll see him run to his car and peel away.

lol. I would love to see the picture of Penn scooting to his car.

I just got busted wasting time at work on the Intertubes. Couldn't help laughing at the thought of the Pennster speeding off in his car, after cutting his firm a $million check for "consulting fees". Gotta cash that baby while there's still money in the account!

Wasn't Patti Solis Doyle blamed by some other Clintonies for seriously mismanaging the Hillary campaign?

And Obama would want one of the factors and one of the key people on team Clinton who has been widely regarded as in over her head and a factor that drove the Clinton into the ditch on his team why exactly?

Oilbama is much ado about nothing.

She was Hillary's campaign manager but was booted. That should raise huge red flags, given the degree to which Hillary puts loyalty ahead of competence when it comes to her advisors.

I don't know much about her, other than she was regularly trashed for mismanaging Hillary's campaign -- especially on the money side -- and was considered by some to be a prima donna.
She also may have other motivations for doing this considering that she was unceremoniously booted out of Hillaryland.
That said, I don't have a problem with her working for the Obama campaign per se, so long as she is placed in a position that makes use of her talents, whatever they happen to be, and minimizes her weaknesses.
The concept that is really ludicrous and outrageous is the idea even being mentioned of the hack Wolfson working for Obama. Plouffe and Axelrod ought to make sure they stay 500 miles away from him and from the other pathological liars and scum of the earth purveyors of Karl Rove-style cynical and destructive politics: Penn, McAuliffe, Davis, etc.
But as for other Clinton staffers, I don't see an inherent problem as long as the fit is right.

I suspect that Patti Solis Doyle is a better person than all those she was surrounded with. If you did not fit in with that cluster of snakes, I think that is a point in your favor.
Keep in mind, most of the dirty campaigning from the Clinton camp came after Ms.Doyle was no longer with them. She may have been the one person with class that was actually repressing the worse impulses of the other key players.

why, after the disastrous exercise in mismanagement and poor planning that was the clinton campaign, would barack obama even consider hiring one of those incompetent hacks?

Let's not forget that back in January and early February Hillary was courting the hispanic votes and trying to divide the minorities. She used Solis Doyle's latin American heritage as a symbol that she has all the hispanic support. But after the original Super Tuesday when Hillary got all the votes she needed from hispanic voters in California and New Mexico she dumped Patti and sent out a memo to the MSM of her campaign manager firing for the reason that she did not close the deal against Obama.
Hillary's actions then ticked off a lot of Hispanic supporters see this interesting story from the NY Post following that firing

Perhaps she can help Obama with outreach to Hispanic voters and Clinton supporters.
Obama's management has been so on-target, I have confidence that he, Axe, Plouffe et al can make use of her talents.
May 19, 2008 4:06 PM | Reply | Permalink
You have a good point. She didn't do well for Clinton, but oftentimes I've seen good, talented people fail because they were simply in the wrong job. Given Obama's campaign has been managed so effectively thus far, I can hope (at least) that they know what they're doing.

I'm sure she has talents but I wouldn't assume that just because somebody is Hispanic they can do "Hispanic outreach." That will have to come straight from BHO, working with serious people.
May 19, 2008 4:59 PM | Reply | Permalink
Perhaps this is a move that could help with Hispanic outreach. Certainly, that's one of Obama's weaker areas, and presumably PSD does have some campaign skills. It sounds like she was in over her head in the Clinton campaign, but that doesn't mean should could effectively serve in some other role.

I suppose this would be one way to unify. Let people on who know how to appeal to a specific voting group. I'm not sure that she was wholly responsible for crashing Clinton's campaign. However, it is scary to see her let onto the Obama campaign. Mark Penn - definitely NOT.

Nothing to get to excited about. David Axelrod knows Ms.Solis for a long time. Pay attention to the following excerpt from the article:
Solis Doyle, a Chicago native whose brother is an alderman there, has known Axelrod even longer than she’s known the Clintons. Both said they’d talked frequently through the course of the campaign. Solis Doyle said there had been “no real conversations” about a job, but didn’t deny the subject had been broached.

I know the Hillary supporters hate the Nixon comparison (though I think it's apt), so here is a salient quote from RMN:
Always remember that others may hate you but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them. And then you destroy yourself.I think Hillary is in the phase very close to destroying herself. She has preached hate during a large part of this campaign and that has blinded her to reality. For every day that she delays dropping out she loses that much more political capital.

Wow, that's a surpise.
I don't think PSD did all that good a job for Clinton, so I question her value. But it doesn't hurt to bring Clintonites on board and have a bigger tent. So I welcome it in that sense.
I doubt PSD would talk about this without HRC's okay. Or am I wrong on that? It seems inconceivable that this would be a "betrayal" of any sort. Maybe some sort of feeler/olive branch?
May 19, 2008 4:38 PM | Reply | Permalink
She probably just needs a job. Though I'm sure she could have found a position somewhere other than the opposing campaign. Is this bad taste or not? Did she violate some real or imagined loyalty oath? Who knows? It's just another tidbit of the day.

She was losing Hillary's campaign due to her laziness. Take that work ethic and bad karma over to Obama for some 'diversity' seeing as Obama's team is mostly white.
