Former Edwards-Backer David Bonior Endorsing Obama
Barack Obama is continuing to pick up support from former Edwards backers, an indication of both his overall momentum and a strategy to dispel the idea that he can't appeal to the white working class.
The latest endorsement is coming from former House Dem Whip David Bonior, who served as Edwards' campaign manager and was a longtime antagonist of the Clintons on trade issues. Bonior has a lot of pull with unions, so don't be surprised if a few more of them come out for Obama in the remaining contests and in lobbying uncommitted super-delegates.

Is he a superdelegate?

Technically, at this point, there are no super delegates from Michigan or Florida. If he is sitting in the house, he would most likely be a super delegate if MI/FL super delegates are eventually seated.

Actually just found the list of proposed MI Supers and Bonior is not on it, so the answer is no, he's not.

Has the United Mine Workers endorsed either candidate yet? I believe they endorsed Edwards when he was still in the race. This would be a big one in WV and KY.

Yes, they did endorse Edwards back in Sept. I just checked their web site and they have their endorsements up for KY and WV, but they don't have a presenditial endorsement

On certain levels this helps a lot and my hat's off to Bonior for doing the right thing.
On the other hand, you know damn well that some of Hillary's people have already started calling leaders of the Jewish community to trumpet this endorsement as evidence that Obama will somehow not be a reliable supporter of Israel, given Bonior's past positions on Middle Eastern policy. To me, this is just as sleazy and dishonest as McCain claiming that Hamas endorsed Obama. Which is probably all the more reason they would try it in their last desperate throes.

I'm a bit bummed that Edwards and Gore are both holding off their endorsements of Obama. They must be under a lot of pressure right now - from both sides.

As a fellow Edwards supporter who acknowledges Obama's is the de facto Democratic nominee . . . All I can say is:
"Welcome to the club."

Bonior has always been one of my favorite pols, and I hope this isn't the last we hear of him vis a vis Obama.

Bonior did a lot of good in the Congress. I hope he gets back into electoral politics.
Re Edwards and Gore, pols don't want to damage their relationships with each other and with funders if they don't have to -- what everyone is hoping is that she bows out gracefully, so that moving to BHO does not look like disloyalty. (The Clinton camp went after Richardson in such bitter, personal terms mainly as a warning to others not to cross them.)
So what's happening now are phone calls to arrange the dignified exit. But if it appears (and I really suspected this for the first time only this morning) that she's gone nuts and is ready to take the party down with her, the honchos may step in a little more publicly.
