Clinton Gets Indianapolis Star Endorsement

Indiana's largest newspaper, the Indianapolis Star, has endorsed Hillary Clinton in Tuesday's primary, saying that she "offers a clear-eyed view of the way things are," and "nuanced positions on how to address the war in Iraq, trade with China and economic expansion."

However, it's unclear if any newspaper endorsement has really had an effect in this cycle. For example, Barack Obama won practically all the major newspaper endorsements in California and Pennsylvania, but lost those primaries by substantial margins.

Where's my fork? This thing is done.

Eric, in his breathless enthu for Hillay, has posted this blog twice. Get a grip, man.

I believe it was the same paper that endorsed Bushie boy in 2004. And their endorsement seems to be very much back-handed. A double whammy.

The endorsement was balanced by a few negative statements about Hillary, too:

"Clinton regrettably has pandered more to voters, particularly on gas prices, than Obama."

"Clinton also was an integral part of her husband's political machine, which earned a reputation for flattening opponents. That factor understandably gives many voters pause about whether another Clinton should serve as president."

You'd think TPM would think to include that little gem in their summary. I'd say that is more of an unendorsement than an endorsement.

"The survey, conducted by Indianapolis-based TeleResearch Corp. and released exclusively to 6News, showed Clinton with a 10-point lead over Obama in Indiana -- 48 percent to 38 percent -- with 14 percent of respondents undecided. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percent."

Clinton wins Indiana by 10.

You mean 30?

Yeah Gottalife, isn't your usual blather to the effect of Hilary by 30, no you meant 20, no you meant 10?

"Clinton wins Indiana by 10."

..she could win by 50, and never come within a square mile of the nomination.. Thoughts?

user-pic

Shhh, math confuses gottalife, you don't want him to have a temper tantrum and start whining again, do you?

"Meanwhile, Barack Obama has picked up a new super-delegate this morning, 1980s DNC chair Paul Kirk of Massachusetts."

Eric, why is this an afterthoguht?

Spinning that as a positive for Clinton takes time. Just relax.

"Clinton: "If We Had the Republican Rules, I Would Already Be the Nominee"

Can we please get a thread about this nonsense?

How about this too: "Clinton: Congress "With Us Or Against Us" On Gas Tax"

The Queen of the Clintoids gets a corporation (which thankfully can not vote . . . yet) and the Leader of the Obamanation nabs a flesh and blood human (which has a vote that ACTUALLY does count . . . Unlike millions of citizens).

I can't wait for November when the voting machine companies appoint our rightful leader . . .

Sigh.

Love that Zogby poll..... Obama up by 16 in NC and tied in IN.

But go ahead and dismiss THOSE numbers, gotalife.

Your lobotomy scars are showing again.

The Indianapolis Star? Yeah ... That's quite a coup. [rolls eyes]. I'll grant that they are a little better than the Washington Times, but as was noted above, the endorsement contained a few slaps to the face as well. The Indianapolis Star editorial staff is only interested in getting Republicans elected. The paper was owned by Dan Quayle's dad after all.

Clear eyed view of the way things are? Like the $10 billion handout she wants to give to oil companies that she is now attacking Democrats in Congress for not supporting??

That "endorsement" is hilarious- has to be the most back-handed one I've ever seen.

yes she will win both NC AND IN BY 10

You'll see! Attacking Congressional Democrats on the moronic Clinton - McCain gas tax holiday is bound to net her more supers, since many of them are... Congressional Democrats. Oh, wait...

"The white-black divide continues to grow in North Carolina. Earlier today, I blogged about Mason-Dixon showing 62 percent of white voters backed Clinton, higher than the most previous SUSA poll showing 61% of white voters backing Clinton, and that being higher then the also previous IA poll showing Clinton with 54 percent of the white vote.

The new poll out by Research 2000, done the 29th-30th of April, shows an even wider divide:

White Black Overall

Obama 30 88 51
Clinton 66 5 44"

Obama lost the white votes.

I wonder why we are so devided... Hmmm, maybe shit like this contributes to it, no?

Hahahaha ohhhhh HOO HOO HOO hahahahahha hehehehehe STOP!

Clinton wins NC? HAHAHAHAh Dream on Clinton fan.

Clinton wins IN by 10? Hahahahah You need to pass whatever you're smoking, cuz' you got the good stuff!

Damn. I'm growing more bitter everyday.

Look out that next I'll be clinging to guns, a foreign god and the illusion that Clinton will be anything other than the second best current Senator of New York next year . . .

North Carolina has a big white majority.

user-pic

Overall, the population is 70% white 21% black - so Hurry! You said something true for a change. Those dynamics change considerably when you focus on just the Democratic Party of North Carolina. Obama doesn't have to win anything close to a majority of white NC Democratic voters to win the state.

Hilary looks longingly on the Republican party's nominating process. No doubt she does because, given her very economical attitude towards the truth, her willingness to pander, the Rove/Atwater like use of race baiting by her campaign, and her unabashed war mongering, she seems to be very much like a Republican. In fact, her real slogan should be: "The Clintons, Losing Democratic Majorities in Congress since 1994." Don't think the elected Super Delegates aren't thinking about how the Clintons wrecked the Democratic party in the 1990's, and comparing that to Obama's 50 State grass roots strategy, which would build up the Democratic party. For the Republicans, Clinton is a no lose proposition, she is the weaker candidate and, even if she wins, can be counted on to do something they can't do themselves, rebuild the Republican party.

Brilliant man

Just wait until Mickey Kantor-gate.

Kantor, by the way, is the epitome of a Clintonite -- a corporate lawyer and lobbyist who led the charge for NAFTA as Bill's USTR. Exactly the kind of elitist -- in the true meaning of the term -- who has no place in the next Democratic administration.

Never mind. Kantor-gate is a fraud. Fucking Internet.

What I said about him still stands, though.

This is about as ringing as that DMR "endorsement."

Just thought I'd state the obvious. The Indianapolis Star endorsement's reasoning is specious. First, of course, Obama does have a very clear idea of what is. Perhaps the Star staff hasn't read The Audacity of Hope where he clearly delineates exactly how things are in Washington and elsewhere. Second, only someone who understands how things are (Obama) and can envision both an alternate and how to achieve it is what is known as a leader. Clinton can just keep slugging away and slinging muddied fantasies at the American public, but she will never change anything.
