After West Virginia Loss, Obama Keeps Racking Up Super-Delegates
Obama's landslide loss in West Virginia yesterday did nothing to slow his momentum, if today's super-delegate action is any indication.
Obama picked up Congressman Pete Visclosky of Indiana, DNC members Lena Taylor of Wisconsin and Mike Morgan of Oklahoma, and Democrats Abroad chair Christine Schon Marques. Schon Marques' support counts as a half-vote.
Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, picked up DNC member Vicky Harwell of Tennessee.
And last night, College Democrats president Lauren Wolfe of Michigan and vice president Awais Khaleel of Wisconsin announced their endorsements after an online campaign in which they asked for the input of college students across the country in order to determine their votes. Not surprisingly, they went for Obama.
The score: Obama +5.5, Clinton +1. According to NBC News, Obama has 287.5 super-delegates to Clinton's 276.5.

OBAMA WANTS TO DOUBLE OUR CAPITAL GAINS TAXES
from 15% to 28 % !!
McCain will keep them where they are.
If Hillary isn't the nominee, VOTE McCain! He'll keep taxes low.
Obama will be RAISING EVERYTHING!!

Yes, 'hard working americans' will get taxed at up to 28%, meanwhile those easy-livin' wall street investment bankers who got us into this mortgage mess will only be taxed 15% on what they make? Sounds brilliant...

'Our' capital gains taxes? Speak for yourself. In order to have capital gains taxes, I would first have to have capital gains. In order to have capital gains, I would first have to have capital. Impoverished recent graduates like myself are not so lucky as to have capital gains to be taxed. I am more concerned about health care than capital gains taxes, but I am happy for you that you are living high enough on the hog that McCain might seem the better choice.

Hillary Clinton wants to RESTORE the capital gains tax also.
She also wants to RESTORE the income tax on Americans making more than 250k a year to 38%.
These taxes should have never been temporarily reduced as we were embarking on TWO WARS in the first place! The reductions should be allowed to expire AS SCHEDULED so that we can start to recover our economy!

Speaking as an Obama supporter in the top 10% income bracket, its about damn time that our government stops expecting no one to sacrifice for our country. The deficit is exploding, almost every dollar spent on the Iraq was is off the federal budget adding to that deficit, and the Repubs answer is to cut taxes for the rich? And pay for that by slashing government spending where it hurts middle class and lower income families more than any other? I have no problem with Obama’s plans. I’ll pay my share.

Indeed, the richest of the rich had tax rates of up to 94% during WWII (more like 74% after loopholes). No public outcry. They accepted it as their contribution to the war effort.
"I regret," announced Hollywood starlet Ann Sheridan, “that I have only one salary to give for my country.”
Unfortunately, all Bush has asked us to sacrifice is our future.

Michigan and Florida were disenfranchised by their local party leaders when they moved up their primaries--a fact Clinton recognized and agreed with until she didn't have the nomination wrapped up after Super Tuesday and decided she needed those votes.
But don't let the facts get in your way or anything.

That's it, Rush. Keep repeating it, so that will make it true. No need to consider the rights of the thousands of MI/FL voters who stayed home because they tried to play by the DNC rules.
BTW, the Republicans punished their early states by taking away half their delegates. Does that mean they disenfranchised voters too, and that GOP voters will punish McCain for it? Gee, this game IS fun to play...

How could he "steal the election" by 'not counting Florida and Michigan"? He is ahead even *WITH* Florida and Michigan. The delegates that will be assigned for Florida and Michigan (and there will be a resolution) will be divided up honestly and *FAIRLY*.
You know, you people need to learn how to do MATH, not just repeat and repeat, endlessly, the talking points you hear on the candidate's sound bite on teevee.

As a MI voter I have a VERY clear understanding of how I was disenfranchised.
The blamse lies squarely with Mark Brewer (head of the MI dem party), Senator Carl Levin, Debbie Dingell (DNC member and wife of Rep. John Dingell) and Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (MI Rep and mother to Kwame).
So please do not tell me who to hold responsible when you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Now if Obama would state that he would enforce the Sherman Anti-trust Acts, work to repeal both PATRIOT Acts and the Military Commisions Act, return to the practise of charging tariffs to control the balance of trade and gain funds for the general fund AND demand that all corporations who are providing goods and services for the government be headquartered in one of the 50 states, Obama would gain my heartfelt support.

Two late Super Endorsements squeezed in with the Edwards endorsment are :
Chicago, IL – Today, Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore Mike Morgan, who is a designated superdelegate for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, endorsed Barack Obama for president, citing Obama’s strong commitment to uniting our country for the change America needs after eight years of a divisive political climate and the help he will give to down ballot candidates this fall.
Morgan’s endorsement means that Obama has been endorsed by 288.5 superdelegates. Obama is 134.5 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.
AND
CHICAGO, IL – Today, Wisconsin Superdelegate State Senator Lena Taylor endorsed Barack Obama, citing his ability to unite Americans for change.
Taylor’s endorsement means that Obama has been endorsed by 289.5 superdelegates. Obama is 133.5 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.

Given the 32 trillion in unfunded liabilities President Bush and the Republican Congress have left the next generation (all while waging TWO WARS and cutting taxes which disproportionately benefited the wealthy); perhaps raising some taxes isn’t such a bad idea after all. Of course, if you’d rather borrow the money from China and the UAE, who then plow the interest on this debt into sovereign wealth funds (this is where your oil money goes too) which are used to purchase U.S. companies (now controlled by foreign government, giving them the ability to help call the shots in our economy), then go ahead!!! Just don’t go around screaming when you wake up one day to find this country has sold all it’s economic engines to the highest bidder all because you wanted 100% of your daddy’s money.
May 14, 2008 7:47 PM | Reply | Permalink
One our lost big economic engines is taxing the wealthy. Every period where we have taxed the top 5% over 50% has been very good to us.
