Wolfson: Ad Attacking Obama Over "Small Town" Comments Raises "Important Issues"

Howard Wolfson, on a conference call with reporters just now, offered the campaign's first defense of the Hillary campaign's new ad attacking Obama over the "small town" comments.

Asked if the ad signaled a new level of negativity in the campaign that could damage Dem hopes for the fall, Wolfson said:

"The issues raised in the ad are important issues. There's been a great deal of concern about his remarks in California. He has offered several different explanations for them, none of them quite satisfying."

Wolfson continued that the ad "mirrors the reactions of many Pennsylvanians," and added that those voters believe that Obama's comments "condescended to them."

Early polling, however, may suggest that it's not yet clear whether the comments are taking hold with the broader electorate in the state.

One other telling quote from Wolfson on the "small town" comments: "It's something that we intend to continue to discuss, because it's important."

The Clinton campaign stopped talking about actual "issues" along time ago because they know that they aren't winning that aurgument. The only thing left is "the politics of personal destruction"!

These aren't "issues", Wolfson; these are attacks and Clinton should be ashamed of how she is running the campaign at this point.

This is just purely destructive. Scorched earth. A murder-suicide. They threw the kitchen sink at Obama. Now they're ripping out the plumbing and throwing that at him as well.

I don't think Pennsylvanians are as stupid or as easily manipulated as Hillary and Wolfson clearly believe they are. And certainly the superdelegates understand what's going on.

Hillary is tearing the party apart and destroy both candidates' chances for a win in November.

This is just purely destructive.

Good.

Scorched earth.

End Times. Awesome. I'll bring the popcorn, you bring the lattes.

A murder-suicide.

It had to end somehow.

They threw the kitchen sink at Obama. Now they're ripping out the plumbing and throwing that at him as well.

It's about time. Hope it takes him out.

Hillary is tearing the party apart and destroy both candidates' chances for a win in November.

Sorry, only one candidate can win, not both.

Um, except that Hillary is not that candidate, not in the primary, and not in the general either.

Um, let's talk after the debate, hmmm?

He didn't name the issues? What are the issues that ad raises?

sorry, I forgot to click the box, so my post is below.

Quite clearly, the issue Wolfson is raising is that this is the brilliant clinton "November" Surprise but in April.

Kind of like spring cleaning in winter, but in reverse. I guess.

Anyways. the next brilliant endgame plan is that Hillary will climb to a window ledge and threaten to jump off if she doesn't get things to go her way.

People who are poor cling to religion because they are bitter is not a winning argument. Obama did not make it better when he also argued tht people who are poor cling to racism -- antipathy to people not like them -- because they are bitter.

To affront people with the accusation that their religious views are the result of their economic situation in life at the same time you are arguing that an attachment to racism springs from the same cause is offensive and reveals an astounding lack of empathy.

But people who are disaffected with the political process DO cling POLITICALLY to issues involving religion, guns, anti-immigrant philosophy, etc. That's a fact. It's why wedge issues work--if people think that the government isn't going to do jack-squat on the practical issues that affect their everyday lives, they're going to vote on the basis of closely-held moral convictions or on emotional issues.

HRC and her minions can try to twist Obama's words to make it seem like he's dissing religion or whatever in general, but we all know that this was a valid discussion about electoral habits. And all the Crown Royal shots and love-of-firearms fantasy fiction is not going to change that.

But people who are disaffected with the political process DO cling POLITICALLY to issues involving religion, guns, anti-immigrant philosophy, etc. That's a fact.

How do you know? It's not a fact, it's a freakin' theory Republicans invented (and Barack has now repackaged) to explain large shifts in voting behavior.

Another theory is that the Democrats took their base for granted long ago, and Republicans effectively courted those forsaken voters. The psychology of disaffected bitterness started long before jobs were "shipped overseas": the tide clearly turned in 1980, when Reagan was elected. And that was even before Reagan actually busted the unions and began wholesale deregulation.

Have you read "What's Wrong with Kansas"? It's written by a democrat. It's been accepted "theory" for years in the democratic party.

Hillary knows it too. She's the biggest fake in this race now.

It's ironic you would bring up What's the Matter with Kansas?, since Thomas Frank writes about "liberal elitism." Maybe you should e-mail Barack and tell him to read it. His understanding of the history of the rural and working class demographic is wanting by a decade give or take.

You're willfully ignoring how Obama has been expanding on the comments.

Keep it up, so he keeps it up. Obama has been making a lot of sense to a lot of small-town people (note that I am 95% small town, having grown up on a farm, having worked on the farm into my 20s, having eaten venison and knowing damn well that you do shots of Jack and not Crown Royal like some ELITIST!)

Who you callin' elitist, foo!!!

The Hill knows how to roll!!

If you don't understand Obama's point, let Wolfson demonstrate how you can use one of these wedge issues--say the "elitist" label--to distract the voters from the fact that you either aren't willing or capable of delivering on the economic issues that really matter.

Which will affect the lives of Pennsylvanians more: having an elitist president or having a president who supports new trade agreements with Colombia and China?

Obama purposely included in his list things that he considers good in themselves, bad in themselves, and neutral in themselves. It's the motive for adhering to them that is at issue, and what society can do to alleviate misfortunes that make people inappropriately dependent on them.

For example, I happen to be a practicing Catholic (though certainly an unworthy one). I am that, not out of bitterness, but out of conviction and membership in a worldwide community of faith. But I have no illusions that some people cling to that same religion for reasons of desperation and, yes, bitter experience of life. They are in no way less worthy of regard than those who, like me, are in those respects more fortunate.

This, I think, is a snapshot of the kind of thinking behind Obama's rather casual statement that has been so twisted and so much the focus of raw opportunism of the most hideous kind.

Clinton's campaign strategy is shameful. And in trying to destroy Obama, she's destroying herself as well....just, yes; but really lousy for Democrats who don't want Bush Redux in November.

At this point I am hoping Clinton obliterates Obama in PA so we can get this over with.

Actually, nothing will be over in that case. But if the reverse were true, the end for Clinton would be swift indeed.

user-pic

I ain't going to be courteous about this.

Fuck Wolfson, he's a lying piece of shit.

This rovian ad -- most likely composed at the bidding of Mark Penn -- should convince most superdelegates of the essential shappiness of Clintonism. I will vote for Clinton in the unlikely outcome that she gets the nomination, but it will be with full recognition that Senator Clinton is a pathetic, twisted caricature of the values of the Democraic party that has been my political home since birth. She eats her own.

user-pic

I'm so sick of this campaign. When will it be over?

Hillary has already done a shot. So we can check off "last call." next up is Hillary singing "New York, New York" and the house lights will be turned on and the bouncers will shove everyone out the door into the parking lot.

and then it shall be deemed to be "officially over."

Really? Is that what Howard Wolfson said? Hmmm. He's so darned insightful and objective. What else does he have to say? Let's make sure we take time out of our busy schedules to report on his every utterance. Thanks for the deep, investigative reporting!

Important issues if you are a Republican attacking a Democrat, any Democrat. How pathetic can you get?

user-pic

If small towns were so frickin' important to the Clintons, then why did they neglect all the frickin' small towns in all those states they said frickin' "didn't matter"?

No matter how this election turns out (and Clinton, if she's the nominee, is never going to get elected President), the Clinton brand is just plain crap.

user-pic

It's not a "new level" of negativity, it's just a new channel in their vast subterranean cesspool.

Maybe you should also discuss, Mr. Wolfson, the road kill mess HRC is doing to the Democratic Party, you jerk.

Bill Clinton was Governor and Hillary First Lady in that elitist state of Arkansas. I think one may find a few small towns in the state. They also hunt there and are religious but I doubt they cling to guns and religion due to bitterness per Barry-O.

Having actually grown up in that state, I assure you that there are many, many "wedge issue voters" who make their decisions solely on the basis of things like prayer in schools or gun rights or gay marriage.

There is a reason Bush sent out a flyer in Ark. during the 2004 campaign that showed a man proposing to another man with a circle-slash over a Bible, proclaiming: Democrats want to ban the Bible and promote gay marriage in Arkansas.

But God knows, we wouldn't want to engage in any political analysis that might help us understand why that crap works. Right?

So by voting for Obama, wedge issues will go away?

Obama put foot in mouth, and the ObamaPost created this mess for Obama. Who is the real Obama? I think he's unqualified to be POTUS, an empty suit. Hillary is qualified but also a phony and while I support her, she's run a horrible campaign. Obama is an everyday politician, no saint and not the manufactured image he wants voters to believe.

Well gee, that new avatar certainly enhances your reputation for rational, intelligent discourse.

if you want to cling around like hillary when the writing has been on the wall for months, you are welcome to cling away.

Unbelievable. MP, you defend the clintons only to bring them down to a choice between two seriously flawed candidates. These is argumentative, not reasoned.

Sincerely

Clinton can win the GE; Obama can not and will be hammered endlessly by the GOP. Any Clinton supporter who does not think she's seriously flawed is a liar. She is however far better qualified and could get things done. Kumbaya in Washington DC doesn't work, never has, never will; nor will an empty message of hope and change.

if she can win the GE, why is she losing Michigan?

I mean she has dispatched astroturfers to picket the DNC and everyting.

her entire campaign can be summed up in two words: faux outrage.

emphasis on the faux. french fauxes. many fauxes.

Bill and Hillary live in Chapppaqua, NY (actually closer to Mt. Kisco than the village). There aren't a lot of shacks there -- I know, I grew up there (HGHS class of '75). While it's not Scarsdale or Katonah, it ain't the wrong side of the tracks by any means. So doing shots of anything and talking about bagging a bunny isn't going to get Hillary away from the fact that she's RIGHT NOW dead center in the country club set of one of the most Republican areas of NY.

Does she even know the meaning of the word, "elitist"?

no they just did shady trading of cattle futures in Arkansas.

Obama: "Hope And Anger Go Hand And Hand"

Total bs.

Clinton gives hope without anger.

user-pic

Wow, that is one of the first Pro-Clinton things I've ever seen from you; there might be others but not many. Unfortunately it's simple "bs" as you say; but hey good for you trying to go positive for a moment.

I would really love to see some pro-Hillary comments from the Obama attackers on this site so I can better understand the hostile wing of her supporters.

Oh yeah!!! I love word games. Oooooh, I got one. How about this: Hillary gives hope without reality. My answer to your answer to their answer is nothing more than semantic spin. And so is yours. Talk about total bs.

1. Gotalife, do you feel that the anger bubbling around america is unreal? 2. Your comment fails to provide any explanatory power for how the public mood and politics connect. If you want to change minds here, then try and EXPLAIN what's going on. 3. Besides, in your estimation, is there ever a place for anger in the public realm?

Sincerely.

Clinton oozes lies without the hope.

user-pic
Clinton gives hope without anger.

You know what, folks? This is the comment of the day. It doesn't get any more Rovian than this right here - black is white, up is down and Hillary Clinton isn't angry and bitter.

user-pic

Seriously. The "I'm not bitter" stickers are just pure political comedy. You couldn't make this crap up if you tried.

But with our complacent media, she gets away with it.

user-pic

She's not angry - she's just furiously destroying the Democratic party for fun.

She's not bitter - she's just the perpetual victim: of a Right Wing Conspiracy, the media, Bill, men in general, and on and on and on -

when is she gonna start crying again?

Obama: "Hope And Anger Go Hand And Hand"

Total bs.

Clinton gives hope without anger.

gotalife, you owe me a new keyboard.

Gotalife also owes me a bottle of tylenol.

YAWN.

More pathetic bullshit from "Team" clinton.

user-pic

I think, for the first time in my 51 year old life, if Clinton gets the nomination I'm not going to vote. I just don't know how, otherwise, we will ever quit rewarding this bs.

I'm beginning to toy with the same idea. If I don't vote for Clinton and McCain wins, will I feel worse than if I vote for Clinton and McCain wins? Premise: Clinton vs. McCain = President McCain

user-pic

Well, please at least remember to vote for down-ticket Dems...If we can't get the WH, and we probably won't, if Hillary Sniper Fire is the candidate, we can at least work to increase the majorities in the House and Senate.

So please vote. I'm voting for her, if she's the nominee, but it will be a nausea-inducing experience. I can't do anything else: the Supreme Court is too important.

Hillary has no coat tails. That's one of the reasons I went for Obama.

user-pic

No, she doesn't (have coattails). Why else did so many redstate politicians endorse Obama?

I love your avatar, btw.

NEW OBAMA AD ATTACKS CLINTON ON LOBBYIST TIES!!!

Only in the Orwellian world of the Clintons could it be that working families are not bitter about having good jobs disappear south of the border thanks to the trade deals Bill negotiated. They're not bitter about having their standard of living decline thanks to economic policies dictated by Wall Street, not only over the past eight years, but the eight years previous under the Bill Clinton/Robert Rubin machine. They're not bitter about not having health insurance or being a hair's breadth away from joining the ranks of the uninsured. They're not bitter about not having guaranteed benefit pensions and seeing the meager savings of the lucky ones with 401(k)s dry up due to the crashing stock market. They're not bitter about the price of essentials, from food to gasoline, going through the roof. They're not bitter about the rash of foreclosures threatening their neighbors and perhaps themselves. They're not bitter about seeing millionaires getting five- and six-figure tax cuts larger than their entire family incomes. They're not bitter about being an illness or a divorce away from bankruptcy and then facing real destitution thanks to the bankruptcy bill Hillary voted for. They're not bitter about seeing their sons and daughters risk their lives for a failed policy in Iraq that Hillary voted for and for which no one else is being asked to sacrifice.

No, according to Billary, working families are insulted at the notion that they might actually be bitter about being screwed by America's political and economic elites! No, as long as no one insults their religion and their guns, working people and small town Americans are all too happy to get the shaft, and all too thrilled to vote for a candidate who made $109 million, who is hopelessly intertwined with corrupt corporate special interests, and who will say and do absolutely anything in the pursuit of personal gain.

Just who here is really being patronizing?

To be fair, Bill only signed onto what Bush negotiated in NAFTA.

Actually Bullwinkle is essentailly right.
While it's true that Bush-wimp negotiated NAFTA, it would have never passed if Clinton didn't get behind it with the full force of the Oval Office.

Yes, you are correct; I didn't word that properly. Still, Bill spent a lot of political capital lobbying Congress to approve NAFTA and the end result was that NAFTA was one of the main "achievements" of Clinton's first term while other professed administration priorities that might have actually helped working families went by the wayside.

Thank you! Yes. I would like to see Gotalife and their ilk would respond to this. I don't get how partisianship can be so blind to the indisputable consensus on the current state of the nation. ENOUGH.

I believe that the more Obama contrasts with the current field of candidates the better he will do. If he keeps it up and sticks to form, he will do just fine in the general election.

Sincerely

Seriously, gotalife, assuming you are not a complete troll, under what scenario, exactly, do you see HRC somehow picking up enough obama supporters to win in November if this gets taken/stolen/whatever in Denver. Can you not understand just how ruinous that would be, and the very natural schism that would form?

I mean, really, that's the part that I don't understand when I read your (and other HRC people's) jabs/missives/lunacy. It really, really, really, boggles the mind.

Seriously, gotalife, assuming you are not a complete troll, under what scenario, exactly, do you see HRC somehow picking up enough obama supporters to win in November if this gets taken/stolen/whatever in Denver.

McCain just laid out a set of economic proposals that will be very appealing to a lot of Americans. Some good stuff there from a purely pie-in-the-sky perspective. This is where the trouble really starts for the Democrats. While McCain makes a strong, positive case for his own candidacy, the Democrats make weak negative cases against each other and demonstrate the sort of divisive, down-in-the-dirt bickering that Americans are so sick of watching.

Clinton's supporters are beginning to really hate Obama for ruining Hillary's chances: "It's not his turn. He doesn't have enough experience. He's an elitist." Obama's supporters feel the same way about Hillary: "She can't possibly win. She's campaigning like a Republican. Why won't she just bow out gracefully for the good of the party?"

This is where the real damage is done. This is where bitterly divided Democrats draw the battle lines against their "opponent"--a member of their own party--while their true opponent starts to look better and better to swing voters. This is where the Democrats begin their long march toward defeat in November.

the issue raised by Wolfson is that Hillary has nothing left in the arsenal.

So TADA: this is the big end game.

now all of you: discuss.

speaking of cling. hillary clinging to this non-argument is not getting her anywhere. but as this is a democracy, she is free to beat a dead horse.

swiftboating by bitterness! the ultimate of groundgames!

da-da-da-dun!

I'm from a small town, now living in the city, and Obama's remarks are absolutely true. People are bitter, angry, etc. in small towns and here in the city as well. 8 years of Bush and a failing economy will do that. Not being able to afford food will do that. So will a lack of new jobs that are not "service" related. The problem with Obama's remarks are that the "truth hurts". The wording is harsh and thus, the controversy. He is also correct in that many small town voters vote on hot button, moral issues (which is there right) but not on pocket book issues. Thus they'll vote for the anti-abortion candidate when they really should be voting for the fiscally responsible candidate or the helping the middle class or poor candidate. I believe they do this because they believe the government doesn't do much for them, so "eh", i'm gonna vote on my morals instead of my politics. The only problem with Obama's quote is that it should have been explained more immediately or should've been worded better. END OF STORY. There is nothing elitist in the remarks, he did not say "foolishly turn to their guns and religion", etc. An observation is simply an observation- which is all this was. Obama's observation from travelling around the country and hearing peoples personal stories, outrage, and yes, bitterness. Obama's playing this well, keeping on message, and beating Hillary down on trade. Trade is going to decide Pennsylvania, I have a feeling. The best option may be to connect his further explanation of these remarks (not an apology, he's already done that for those that may have misunderstood the wording) and connect it to trade in a good stump speech. Then, right before the the primary bring up the hope he'll bring to those that are bitter. Hope achieved by, and through, change. Change we can believe in! Go Obama!

For Hillary, before I was against her. --joe

This whole faux outrage thing is depressing as hell.

I'm in central Pa., and no one around here is seriously upset about the "serious issues" that Howitzer Howie is talking about. He's delusional.

What I DO think is going on is that ginning up this crap simply gives some redneck elements the self-righteous cover they need to justify voting against the black guy, which they would do anyway.

Hillary is playing the race card again.

Just like McCain will (and is) doing.

All the other noise is just distraction from this essential truth.

Having said that, I'm glad to get this stuff out into the open now. I'm just so sad to see the Clinton campaign debase the process like this against another Democrat.

It's inevitable, I suppose, given the psychodrama and other factors driving her campaign relentlessly toward the cliff, but it's so sad to see us come to this.

Bring on the primary. Let's get this over with.

user-pic

I spoke to a friend of mine in Austin, Texas last night. He told me the reaction to Hillary's latest attacks is overwhelmingly negative. People are really sick of watching her desperation and nastiness as her campaign dies this ugly, ugly death. On the other hand, Obama is making hits with his Annie Oakley routine. If he doesn't get the nomination, he definitely has a future in stand-up comedy.

Here in Minnesota, the consensus is similar. A friend of mine told me yesterday that he thought this campaign was probably a violation of the Geneva Conventions against torture.

I agree.

Must be an important issue to the crazy Barry-O supporters:

Poster of Obama ‘Bitter’ Remark Receives Death Threats
Tuesday, April 15, 2008 10:23 AM

By: newsmax staff

The citizen journalist who first revealed Barack Obama’s “bitter” remarks about small-town Americans has received death threats from Obama supporters.

Mayhill Fowler of Oakland, Calif., has been covering the Democratic presidential campaign and submitting her stories to the “Off the Bus” section of the Huffington Post Web site.

An Obama supporter and contributor to his campaign, Fowler obtained an invitation to an April 6 fundraiser in San Francisco that was designated as “closed” to the mainstream media.

At the fundraiser, Obama told the gathering that Middle Americans have turned to God and guns and against immigrants because they are “bitter” about their economic lot.

“You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them,” he said.

“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment of anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

After her report on Obama’s comments appeared on the Huffington Post site, Obama became the target of elitism charges by his presidential rivals, and Fowler received about 200 e-mail messages that she said ranged from “creepy to threatening,” including several death threats, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Writers on the liberal Web site Daily Kos accused Fowler, 61, of feigning support for Obama to gain access to the San Francisco event.

“It’s like the liberal blogosphere has issued a fatwa against me,” Fowler told the Times.

the lady is probably calling herself!

check the routing of the calls, it is most likely calls that the campaign is making to herself and then crying wolfe.

another part of their brilliant "april surprise" buahahahaha!!!!!

Wolfson continued that the ad "mirrors the reactions of many Pennsylvanians," and added that those voters believe that Obama's comments "condescended to them."

The thing that makes my blood boil is that no one in the media believes this characterization of Obama as an elitist. His parents separated when he was 2. When he lived in Hawaii with his grandparents, Obama lived in a small, two-bedroom apartment. He and his wife just recently paid of their school loans and got out of debt.

The only excuse the media can give for making those claims is that they are "reporting" what the low information voters might think. I think they don't understand the meaning of "cause and effect".

Oh, and if Obama is an elitist, then Hillary is the winner of the Paris Hilton award 10 years in a row.

user-pic

Right! Instead of correcting the record they just keep reporting the Clinton spin and saying that many people beleive it. They don't get that people believe it because in this case the media ran with Clinton's spin has since been talking about Obama's bitter problems or his problems with small town voters.

It just kills me! I'm one of those crazy people who looks at my own house first when there is a problem and the media is just incapable of looking at themselves and seeing that they are part of the problem.

user-pic
Well, please at least remember to vote for down-ticket Dems...If we can't get the WH, and we probably won't, if Hillary Sniper Fire is the candidate, we can at least work to increase the majorities in the House and Senate.

To be perfectly honest with you, I'd rather have Congress. Congress has the final authority, if they will just use it. With a significant majority, Congress runs things - not the White House.

Yesterday Bush issued a laundry list of things "congress must do" to help with the economy. So he is ceding, finally, control of decider decisions.

Thank goodness.

We just need another Mitchell in there to manuever things.

user-pic
McCain just laid out a set of economic proposals that will be very appealing to a lot of Americans. Some good stuff there from a purely pie-in-the-sky perspective. This is where the trouble really starts for the Democrats.

AIYEEEEE!!!! The Republicans are coming! The Republians are coming!

We're DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED people!

Hillary=Static Cling.

Hillary is a real fighter, an attack dog so to speak. But every fighter needs a manager. Every attack dog needs a handler. Otherwise, she is a loose cannon or a rabid dog. Hillary needs to attack repugs not Dems. This is where she will be loved and appreciated by all.

I think every one can agree that it is easy to twist peoples words or even to use their own words, exactly as spoken, to twist their meaning. I'm sure we have all done it in an heated argument ("You said you didn't care!" "yes but what I meant was..." "You said it, I heard it you don't care, because your selfish-see you've just proved my point!' etc, etc.). But were adults right? At least we try to be on our good days.

Obama made his point sloppily, he was speaking off the top of his head (and no I don't think it therefore reveals his true thoughts but rather mistakenly lumps several thoughts together in a way that negatives (antipathy toward other not like us/them) and positives (like religion and traditions like guns/hunting) are linked together in the same sentence. Why did he say it in San Fran behind closed doors? Because a supporter asked how they should help on the ground in PA. Contrary to the Clinton Spin that Obama blamed voters who did not support him, Obama's point was that it was not a racist thing, not about white folk not wanting to vote for black folk but that people have real frustrations and that social issues are understandably important to them. So don't beat them over the head with 10 point plans, they have heard it all before and never seen the results. Find (genuine) common ground and understanding in social issues and share your personal stories of what this campaign means to you and most of all-show up for them, let them know they are being heard.
If you want to hear him make the point more fluently and you actually have an interest in trying to hear his point, then listen to him on Charlie Rose in 2004
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a88wMPAWc90

If you listen to that and disagree or are offended, that is within your right, certainly. I will even respect your position. If you feel it is unacceptable for the a potential POTUS to mispeak (even when behind closed doors), I will disagree, but, ok, thats how you feel. But if you willfully misinterpret or avoid evidence that strongly suggests what he said in that sentence was not how he meant it , then I don't respect it. Sorry it all brings me back to middle school and Hillary is the Queen Bee who manipulates others comments to gain power and allegiance - "I'm your friend so I want to tell you, Jenny said- and I was kind of taken aback when she said it- Jenny called you fat. You must feel terrible (and I'm going to keep making sure you feel terrible because that way you'll feel more indebted toward me for "protecting you"). If you have made up your mind and long ago decided you would not vote for Obama, and will not be swayed no matter, Ok. But if you are honestly struggling to try to make some sense of this candidate and what he was trying to say then listen to him say it here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a88wMPAWc90

I personally find it offensive when people interpret things for me and tell me I should feel offended. Thanks, but I can decide for myself and If I am offended, I can handle that myself too -I don't need a potential POTUS to stand up for me in that way and in fact, I would rather just him/her stand up for the truth.

Hillary is to the Democratic party as crap rivets were to the Titanic.

emphasis on the crap.

"The only excuse the media can give for making those claims is that they are "reporting" what the low information voters might think. I think they don't understand the meaning of 'cause and effect'".

Exactly, ken.

I think the media does not give small town people enough credit. They see through this crap as much as the next "orange juice" story. Frankly, the majority of small towners, from my experience, think "big media" is full of crap. (Small town folk, such as my self, have a very low B.S.-o-meter.) Stories and like this just prove them right. I don't think this story will have much effect, and could very well have the opposite effect if it gets drawn out much longer. We shall see.

Any one who analyzes those comments for thirty seconds can see what he was saying, and that he was not being elitist when he was saying it.

you do shots of Jack and not Crown Royal like some ELITIST!

Excellent point! Jon Stewart helpfully advised Hillary that once the velvet pouch which holds the Crown Royal bottle has served its pupose, it will be the perfect place to put her broken dreams.

user-pic
Hillary is playing the race card again.

Noticed that too, huh? Think about it - Carville once called Pennsylvania Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between. I wonder where she got the idea?

user-pic

It's one thing to raise concerns about what a candidates vulnerabilities will be in a general election against the Republican smear machine.

It's another thing entirely to write the #@%#@!!@ script and hand it to the Republicans!

Hillary is way out of line using the worst Rovian tactics of twist and distort. If no one in the Democratic leadership has the ability to stand up to her and tell her to stop, then frankly, the Democrats are a bunch of sniveling twits who deserve to lose in November.

Fortunately, I trust voters to be smarter than she gives them credit for.

And I'll bet a nice arugula salad that she'll try to use this in the debate, and she'll wind up getting booed like she did with the plagiarism charge.
