Senate Dems Way Ahead Of GOP On Fundraising

In yet another sign that the Dems are poised to expand their majority in the Senate, perhaps dramatically, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has built up a big cash advantage over their Republican counterparts, the latest filings show.

During the first quarter of this year, the DSCC took in $16.9 million and had $37.9 million cash-on-hand.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee, by comparison, took in just $11.7 million for the quarter and was left with $17.3 million on hand -- just slightly more than the Dems' take for the quarter alone.

The Democrats will be able to use that cash advantage extensively this cycle, thanks to multiple GOP vulnerabilities and barely any Dem-held seats where they'll have to play defense.

Late Update: The House committees show a similar situation, with the DCCC ending March with $44.3 million on hand, compared to the NRCC's mere $7.2 million.

The only good area for the GOP is in the Republican National Committee, which has $31.1 million on hand to the DNC's $5.3 million. The RNC's cash is expected to be spent largely on helping John McCain's cash-strapped campaign, while the Dems have focused more on organization and fundraising for the other party committees.

Things are looking excellent for a Democratic House and Senate. Unfortunately things are not looking so good for a Democratic White House. While Obama's supporters are talking lofty politics, McCain is preparing his gutter campaign, just like Carl Rove prepared Bush's gutter campaign against the intelligent, eloquent decorated Viet Nam war hero John Kerry.

Yes McCain is preparing his gutter campaign all the more reason why Hillary needs to admit defeat already.

i really don't understand the attitude among Hillary supporters that Obama is subject to these deficits that will sink him in the General that Hillary is somehow immune to. what do you think the $250 million Republican propaganda machine is gonna do if Hillary gets the nomination, pack up and go home? exactly what makes Hillary any kind of a better candidate than Obama in the general, i would love to know. Obama has been fending off attacks left right and centre; Hillary's case apparently is that she believes she can do anything, even out-Republican the Republicans. yeah, great game plan there, moral high ground is for chumps.

Louisville? otto? matthew? gotalife?

what I don't understand is why the Clinton campaign keeps arguing that Obama is vulnerable because Clinton beat him in certain big blue states.

Those big blue states are going to stay blue, after 8 years of Bush, so why is that relevant?

Yippee Chuck will provide us with more republicrat shills

Well, we have a food and gas crises going on but lets give them money anyway so they can do nothing as usual.

When I first saw this I just thought "Wow more money to use doing nothing and being quiet while the minority party still rules them."

Eric, I know you are only reporting on what the Democrats are raising as a party, but I wonder what the impact of grassroots activism is doing to further boost this advantage. If you factor in ActBlue and BlueMajority where individual Democrats can target candidates more closely aligned with their own political views I suspect the numbers will show the overwhelming and organizational superiority enjoyed by the Democrats and the left in general.

With McCain sucking up all the RNC's money, it might give us an even better shot at pickups in the House and Senate races.

This is lovely and a hint of thing to come - Trent Duffy (repub) just went on MSNBC saying Obama is buying an election and the economy is supposed to be in trouble, where is all this money coming from?
Not sure if he was insinuating the economy wasn't really in trouble or that Obama's donations were really coming from rich people. Morris Reid who was on with him called him on it but it was still pretty outrageous.

Welcome to the GE!

He also pulled out the 'Unfit to be CIC' card- thanks Hillary.
