Republican Assault On Obama Continues With New Ad Tying Mississippi Dem To Obama, Pelosi, Kerry

Here's the new ad from the National Republican Congressional Committee for Mississippi special election, part of the new Republican media offensive against Barack Obama. The ad ties Democratic nominee Travis Childers, a social conservative, to such big-name liberals as John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, and Obama, too:

The latest FEC filings show an ad buy of over $260,000 -- meaning that the cash-strapped NRCC sees both a real need to spend money in this deep-red district, and also some real potential for using Barack Obama's name to poison down-ticket Dem chances.

Late Update: Here's the newest ad over in the contested Louisiana special election, tying Dem nominee Don Cazayoux to "the Obama-Pelosi team":

YAWN

Exactly. What chances that Hilary would be the start of such attack ads were she looking the likely nominee? It's just a dual-purpose political ad from a cash strapped republican party.

The RNC is attacking Obama because they want Clinton to pull this out.

Look at it from there perspective, Obama has not raised the infinite scandals, corruption and unseemly crap that the Clinton family did. The day after she gets the nod ads about everything from Pardongate to Experiencegate will flood the airwaves. She will be targeted for her little lies, like her attempt to join the Marines, to her big lies which are too numerous to mention.

With material like that winning is in the bag for McCain, but what's the worst case scenario from the Republican perspective if she wins? A crazy neocon will preside over the worst economic times in a century? Iran gets obliterated, the disaster is blamed on the Democrats. This isn't about the well-being of the country for any of them. It's about power.

That strategy worked so well for them during 2006 mid-terms.

Spend Republicans, spend.

They are just doing them a favor, being attached to Obama come November will only help them. If being connected to Obama hurts anyone they wouldn't have had a chance anyway.

And for the record, Hillary Rodham Clinton was in Final Days, The (2000) with Kevin Spacey who was in Beyond the Sea (2004) with John Goodman who was in Death Sentence (2007) with Kevin Bacon.

TPM needs to be talkling about Rev Wright-
After Barack Obama gave his big race speech in mid-March, I noted that the Illinois senator had thrown his own grandmother under the bus to defend his controversial pastor. Well, Wright proved over the last few days that he would not be outdone. He not only threw Obama under the bus, he chucked much of the liberal and mainstream media under there with him. If this keeps up, he's gonna need a bigger bus.
For six weeks, Obamabots have diligently argued that to so much as mention Wright is in effect racist. Obama and his defenders have repeatedly insisted that the bits from Wright's sermons that got wide circulation last month had been taken "out of context." His infamous sound bites were grounded in concrete theological or factual foundations, they claim. He was quoting other people. He's done good things. Nothing to see here, folks. And so God bless Wright because he's left all of these folks looking like morons.
Let's start with the news out of his speeches Wright, Obama's mentor and former pastor, is worse than we thought. He's a bigot.
On Sunday in Detroit, he explained to 10,000 people at the Fight for Freedom Fund dinner of the NAACP -- an organization adept at taking offense at far less racist comments from nonblacks -- that whites have an inherent "left-brain cognitive, object-oriented learning style. Logical and analytical," while blacks "learn not from an object but from a subject. They are right-brain, subject-oriented in their learning style. That means creative and intuitive. The two worlds have different ways of learning."
Blacks even have better rhythm, Wright explained.
Then, Monday morning at the National Press Club, Wright was asked does he stand by his "God damn America" statement?
Well, yeah. He explained that until American leaders apologize to Japan for the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as well as to black Americans for slavery and racism, we will remain a damnable nation. What about that bit about America's chickens coming home to roost on 9/11? Yep, we heard him right. "You cannot do terrorism on other people and expect it not to come back on you; those are biblical principles," he explained.
Asked whether he stood by his assertion that the U.S. government created HIV as part of a genocidal program to wipe out the black race, Wright mostly dodged but ultimately offered this nondenial denial: "I believe our government is capable of doing anything." He also offered a zesty defense of Louis Farrakhan -- "one of the most important voices in the 20th and 21st century" -- and dismissed criticism of Farrakhan as an anti-Semite. To cap it off, Wright threw Obama under the bus. First, the pastor explained, Obama himself had taken Wright out of context. Moreover, Obama neither denounced nor distanced himself from Wright. And, besides, anything that Obama says on such matters is just stuff "politicians say." They "do what they do based on electability, based on sound bites, based on polls." So much for Obama's new politics.

Yes, what we need here is further analysis and discussion of Obama's former pastor. I don't think the media has addressed this important issue nearly enough.

Rev. Wright's words and opinion are his own. Obama has said he believes Wright has a "distorted" view of America, and that he is offended by those remarks. Those still banging the Wright drum are sinking into McCarthy-esque tactics of guilt by association.

Have you no sense of decency left?

"Have you no sense of decency left?"

You apparently haven't read any other posts by "imbecile," or you'd know the answer to your question is that he had no sense of decency to lose in the first place.

Oh, my goodness. I am SO SICK of hearing this crap again and again!

I am not voting for Wright, nor do I care what he does or says. He doesn't even seem especially close or friendly to Obama after all.

I don't even remember the name of the pastor who married me. I'd be SO ANGRY if the whole world started trying to say I was clearly JUST like him in every way. Duh. It's always been a stupid, calculated, drastically manipulated attack on Obama and the only reason it worked is because we are a bitter country eager to point fingers and see the bad in people. It's disgusting.

Do you have any idea how ignorant and petty we look to other countries by discussing THIS instead of global warming, nuking Iran and our economic depression? It's embarrassing.

Embarrassing, yes. There was a question that a British newspaper (Daily Mirror) asked after the 2004 election. The headline read "How can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?" (http://www.slate.com/id/2109242/). And the Brits are our allies.

But let's stick to discussing Wright, Ayers, Rezko and bitter flag lapel pins that will have a profound impact on our lives.

"TPM needs to be talkling about Rev Wright-
After Barack Obama gave his big race speech in mid-March, I noted that the Illinois senator had thrown his own grandmother under the bus to defend his controversial pastor."

The only people who care about reverend Wright are utterly desperate and pathetic Hillary supporters, the media, and republicans who fear Obama like the gutless cowards that they are. Keep whining dembillc.

Talking about Pastor Hagee, who is far more bat-shit crazy than Bill Clinton's blow-job counselor, would be a far better us of TPM's resources. Please farg-off.

Seems like the Republican Party is starting to farm out its marketing to The Onion. This is so close to farce it's hard not to laugh. "That may be groovy in San Francisco..."

Too much, too much.

Now that the republicans are gearing up attacks on Barack Obama, wouldn't it be nice if Hillary stopped attacking him?

Hillary AND Obama going full-out against McCain would be nice to see. At least then there would be an advantage to having a drawn-out primary for a few more weeks.

That would be an excellent start to re-unifying the party.

Groovy? Laughing my arse off!

I thought Kerry said he would stop them.

"Hillary Rodham Clinton now leads John McCain by 9 points in a head-to-head presidential matchup, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll that bolsters her argument that she is more electable than Democratic rival Barack Obama. Obama and Republican McCain are running about even."

mcwar has mental problems, his positions are all over the place and will not release his medical records.

She wins the general easily.

user-pic

GotNOlife,

I suspect that you were so keenly aware of McCain's mental issues becuase they are so closely related to your own.

Please seek help.

BREAKING!!!! McCain has his own Bacon problem:

John McCain was in Wedding Crashers (2005) with Kathryn Joosten who was in Rails & Ties (2007) with Kevin Bacon!!

John McCain is CLOSER to Kevin Bacon than Hillary!!

John McCain is practically MARRIED to Kevin Bacon!!

John McCain must drop out now!

user-pic

Kyra Sedgewick is married to Kevin Bacon.

user-pic

So he is a bigamist.. practically.. as well?!?

;-)

After having lived in Oxford, MS, for seven years, I find this hilarious that the RNC has to spend money to protect this seat.

Seriously.

Things are looking bad for the Republicans these days.

Hey, anyone see the Wall Street Journal piece on Obama starting to edge into the lead in superdelegates?

Hmmm. Thought not.

Check it out: Obama, Wall Street Journal, superdelegate lead

I think Obama throwing his Grandmother under the bus only to get thrown under the bus by Rev Wright is really the definition of groovy.

"I think Obama throwing his Grandmother under the bus only to get thrown under the bus by Rev Wright is really the definition of groovy."

I think that inbred hand-wringing by someone supporting a losing candidate is even groovier.

user-pic

Oh man. Thanks for the laugh....

user-pic

The Clinton's tossing the Democratic Party under the bus leaves your analogy in the toilet.

user-pic

Don't overlook the bashing of Pelosi here either.

Just curious, how far back in time does the Mississippi GOP want us to go? To the 1950's? To pre-suffrage days, perhaps?

To quote the ad:

That dog won't hunt, even in Mississippi.

People want change. They don't want Republicans anymore.

and also some real potential for using Barack Obama's name to poison down-ticket Dem chances.

Dude. Seriously. I mean these people use any Dem to "poison" down ticket races. This is not new. The Dem nominee could be Santa Claus and they'd try to use him. (Santa Claus wants to give presents to EVERY girl and boy with YOUR tax dollars. Travis Childers refuses to condemn Santa Claus.)

Thank you for bringing much-needed logic to Eric's post.

user-pic

LOL!!

Great comment.

All this means is that they know he's the nominee. They are actually smarter than the entire staff of TPM, HuffPo, and practically ever other alternative media outfit in this.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"part of the new Republican media offensive against Barack Obama"

Brought to you by TPM Election Central.

Travis Childres wants to be a part of the Jesus Christ administration. Jesus Christ wants you to sell your possessions and give to the poor. Jesus Christ wants you to love your enemies. Jesus Christ associates with a known prostitute. Travis Childres and Jesus Christ--bad for Mississippi, bad for America.

user-pic

"Jesus Christ associates with a known prostitute."

Excellent... I am not worthy. :)

It didn't work in 2006, and won't work now.

user-pic

Thank you Walter. Put the gun down Walter. Put the gun...Walter, you idiot! What are you doing? You are gonna shoot Donny.

(couldn't resist - the gravatar is such fun.)

hee hee...a rare, perfect movie, that....

user-pic

ZOMG! GROOVY?!?!?!?!

That was the funniest damn thing I've seen all week. This ad is proof positive that the RNC is both insane and scared shitless. They will lose big this year, and Obama's fundraising will bleed them dry.

Groovy, man. Groovy.

I think Rev Wright was very eloquent when he said that Obama agrees with Wright in what he says but spins like a politician in an election.

Very informative, lets all give Wright credit for exposing Obama as a lying sack of shit.

user-pic

Too bad that's not what he said.

And once again, cue panty-pissing Dems who are scared to fucking death that somewhere, a Republican is saying mean things about them!

Wear the name LIBERAL like the badge of honor it should be, dammit! Stop apologizing for what you believe. And if you're not sure that you ascribe to liberal principles, fine, join the Republican Party already.

user-pic

A sign of things to come for Obama.

user-pic

Let's hope so. I think it is great that the RNC is helping attach down-ticket races to Obama, which will help elect more Dems down-ticket.

They spent $260,000 for THAT ad? Who'd they hire - the guys from South Park? Gotta admit though, the "groovy" bit really cracked me up!

The GOP/McCain have not so much as looked in Hillary's direction in weeks. Obviously they're trying to help her as much as they can.
That said, Obama has had a terrible month. If he manages to win Indiana I would be very pleasantly surprised. He's got to turn this thing around quick though.

user-pic

The Republican party has now been cornered into the South, and even there they are starting to crack up.

I think they are rightly freaking out that the comfy Southern Republican days are over. They are actually going to have to fight for every inch of territory now, and they are going to lose some ground that they have been holding far too easily.

Of course, some redoubts will remain under their control, probably for all time.

Another reference to Obama having the most liberal voting record in the Senate.

user-pic

So what?

You say that like it is a bad thing. Stop being afraid of being a liberal and Democrat.

user-pic

This is where the race gets really destructive, because while Obama is under attack from so many different opponents, Clinton runs unopposed except for Obama. Her campaign and the Democratic 527's that support her are actually helping the Republicans at this point. That's just totally wrong.

Hillary's in Indiana, talking about how her campaign is about "jobs, jobs, jobs, and jobs." I wonder if those are the same jobs she promised when she ran for Senator in New York. Because they didn't happen.

user-pic

Groovy wasn't groovy even when it was a current state of affairs. I guess the ad is targeting people 60 and over who think they know what a scary psychedelic world it might have been 50 years ago.
As far as Republican tactics in the south, though, it's nothing out of the ordinary, so it must work.
Isn't this the region that ran billboards of the gay affianced couple, one guy in a wedding dress, saying this was the world a Kerry win would deliver?

Rev. Right has bought property in Tinley Park, a suburb of Chicago. His plans are to build a ten thousand square foot house.

First he bought the property, and then his church bought it from him. He still plans on a 10,000 sqf. house there.

The community of Tinley Park is concerned about his apparent plan to put the house in the their posession so that he can claim tax-free status on the luxury mansion. Nice he could at least deliver himself from the ghetto.

Wright's 15 minutes of fame is up. He has trouble figuring this out though.
