Report: "McCain Family Recipes" Cribbed From The Food Network

Now this is funny. The Huffington Post has discovered that at least three (and possibly four) "McCain Family Recipes" from the campaign's site, purportedly coming straight from Cindy McCain and intended to create a down-home image, appear to have actually been lifted from the Food Network's Web site.

The newest recipe on McCain's site: Crow.

She's been accused of stealing before. It'll be interesting to see if the media touches this. The media appears to have an unwritten rule that ives of Republicans are 'off-limits'.

user-pic

I'm pretty sure that Cindy's percocet cassarole is actually her recipe though.

user-pic

The intertubes are making elections so much more fun, aren't they?

Cindy McCain probably hasn't cooked a real meal in her life.

She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and Johnny Mac has been coasting along on her family fortune for the past two decades.

user-pic

Well, you have to understand what kind of family it is. "McCain Family Recipes" are the ones the serving staff make for them. They have a lot of fond memories of being served those meals!

user-pic

Now, that's funny. Man, she could have gotten any number of craptastic recipes from Cooks.com and no one would have been the wiser. Or, they could have hired staff that wasn't ineffective.

Yeah, I'm replying to myself...I can't stop laughing at this. McCain wants to say that Obama is out of touch, yet his wife steals recipes to pass off as "family" recipes and she steals this down to earth, non-elitist recipes:

Ahi Tuna with Napa Cabbage Slaw - I get around...I eats lots of food, as long as it's not orange or liver. I live in California. I've never heard of Napa Cabbage Slaw. I didn't even know there was a Napa Cabbage. I do know that you can't find a decide bowl of slaw west of Missouri, except for Texas, so Napa can keep their fancy slaw...probably sucks anyway. I'm not even going to touch the Ahi...at non-union Trader Joe's, two frozen ahi pieces costs $6 - $8. It's more expensive everywhere else.

Crab Scampi and Whole Wheat Spaghetti - Whole wheat spaghetti? Do you have any idea how much that stuff costs? I gotta get gas in my car. I can't afford to spend the extra change on whole wheat spagetti. It even calls for real crab meat. One of those tiny cans is like $6.

Passion Fruit Mousse - Mousse? That's very '88 of her, but passion fruit? What's wrong with regular fruit? And I don't know about you guys, but passion fruit is kind of pricey nowadays, as is the cream...that stuff is like $4 for a pint. That's more than gas.

What were these people thinking? And OMG, is this what we have to look forward too if they're given the keys to the WH? Cindy McCain posting recipes? Dude, get a blog.

This made me laugh out loud: "so Napa can keep their fancy slaw...probably sucks anyway."

Also, because there's not an entry for it yet in the blog, FUCK Joe Lieberman.

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/04/14/lieberman-its-a-good-question-to-ask-if-obama-is-a-marxist/

This is the last fucking straw, that tar-assed son of a bitch actually has the gall to parrot Bill Shithead Kristol's talking points about Obama.

FUCK LIEBERMAN

FUCK LIEBERMAN

FUCK HIM UP HIS ASS

Oh my. I hate to sound bitter, but is there a way to kick this guy out of office? Strip him of his committee assignments? Banish him to Mars?

I have November 6, 2012 marked on my calendar as the day I get to help give him the boot.

Seriously though, I'm pulling for a huge majority of downticket Dem pickups this year so we can just stop pretending he's anything close to being a Democrat.

Lieberman-bashing never loses its appeal, but that story from last night may have set a new (low) bar for that turd. As I recall, freshman Sen. Obama was one of the few Senate Dems to fundraise with Joe when he was facing the upstart in '06. So now Joe is willing to shove aside the loyalty shown by his mentee and start making soft accusations of Marxism and Socialism? He belongs on a Mt. Traitormore of "Democrats" with Hillary and Zell Miller, as far as I'm concerned.

Holy Crap. It's just cut and paste.

As McCain would say, what a trollop.

I'm not sure why anyone would be amazed at McCain or HRC stealing... that is what they do...

If this involved Obama or Clinton, is there any doubt that this story would be on the cable networks non-stop for the next few days? I can hear the talking heads now, pointing out how the controversy of Recipegate raises serious questions about the honesty and authenticity of a candidate.

Considering that this involves the McCain campaign, I'll be surprised if the cable news networks mention this story at all. Surely, if they do mention the story, they will quickly add that it's no big deal. Hell, they might even spin it to make it look as if the Food Network stole from Cindy McCain.

Right on the money! After all, what's a little plagiarism among friends?

Homecooking you can Xerox, I guess.

I actually wish that this story had broken a bit later on. It's no big deal, but it pushes against the "All American Family" image that McCain is trying to create in a funny sort of way that would hit home with a lot of people. Unfortunately, in the wake of the presses continuing obsession with the fallout of Bitter-gate, this will receive no play.

Is this really worthy of our attention, when McCain is supporting the devastation of a whole region of the world, the terrorization of families, and the killing of innocents?

user-pic

Well, it's not worthy of our attention, because we're smart politically-savvy people. But it is worth our trying to get the idiotic political media to pay attention to it, because they'll never cover any of those real things. You work with the tools you've got (pun intended.)

Big deal! There are 6 Barry-O "bitter/cling to" blogs linked on RCP Early Morning Update and there are only 6 posted/linked! http://realclearpolitics.com/

God Bless Socialist Senator Barry Obama, THE Empty Suit and Reverend Wright for VP.

The Huffington Post regrets angering its base after breaking the "bitter" flap. That's why they are working overtime to discover "damning" information about Mccain, and have posted a parade of anti-Clinton headlines ever since angry Obama supporters flooded their inbox with nasty comments about Mayhill Fowler, and Arianna Huffington, who immediately posted an anti-Hillary hit-piece in response.

Don't expect the Huffington Post to EVER say anything negative about Obama again. That's how much of a joke the Huffington Post has become.

Apparently "recipe-gate" is all they have found to counter Obama accusing small-town Americans of clinging to guns and religion when they face financial hardship.

user-pic

They continue to post Erica Jong. Well, maybe that's the anti-anti-Obama strategy. Her posts in support of Clinton ("the eager beaver") are so bad I'm starting to think she's a closet Obama supporter whose feminist cred will not let her openly oppose the first serious female contender. It's a theory, anyway.

Marginal good morning! How are you? O btw this is a bash Mccain thread just thought you might want to know!

jessran, good morning

It's a stupid thread. MSNBC hires known/documented big time plagiarists, Mike Barnacle and Doris Kearns Goodwin (Google it if in doubt) and TPM is talking about "three (and possibly four) "McCain Family Recipes"" being lifted. Big deal...

Obama's RCP stories are more interesting and of course aren't placing the ObamaPost, TPM, MSNBC/NBC, CNN hero in a great light.

Not that I have any interest in defending McCain, but it isn't exactly "out of touch" to use other people's recipes - pretty common behaviour.

That being said, this is hillarious, hope it gets plastered all over the news!

cindy can't help it
she was born with a silver foot in her mouth

she was born with a silver foot in her mouth

Appropriately for this thread, a line cribbed from the late Governor Ann Richards. ;-)

Well she stole her husband so why wouldn't she steal a recipe or three???

It's not serious but it sure is a good laugh in the midst of all the other drama. Particularly hilarious because, as fabooj pointed out, you really can't get a more 'elitist' family recipe that ahi tuna with cabbage slaw, finished off with passion fruit mousse.

I'm all for some fancy schmancy cookin' every once in awhile, but does anyone seriously have "family recipes" like this? I mean, my family's recipes are things like cheesecake, cookies, apple pie, lasagna, meatloaf. I thought the whole point of family recipes was that it's been passed down through the generations - how many of our great-grandmothers were making ahi tuna?

I use other people's recipes all the time, but I don't pass them off as my grandma's recipes. But even more, it just goes to show that people really don't understand the google yet. She could have at least changed around the order of the ingredients and paraphrased the instructions!!

I can't help but wonder what would happen to Hillary if she had cribbed recipes, or Michelle Obama. Screams of "elites out of touch" would be heard across the land.

But no mention of McCains 8 homes, or is it 10?

There are a lot of recipes in common use--many chocolate chip cookie recipes are fairly standard, for example--but good grief, ahi tuna with napa cabbage slaw as a cherished recipe for the regular ol' McCain family? I think the poor judgment shown by which recipes they lifted is even worse than lifting the recipes themselves! This would be such a great counterpoint to the "Obama/elitist" garbage that I hope it gets plastered all over the internets.

Kudos to Jeralyn over at TalkLeft for even posting this. Sadly, her post has only garnered 8 comments so far over there. Apparently, it ain't funny over at TL unless the funny is all about getting in a few chuckles at Obama's expense.

http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/4/15/7540/39574

The Clinton campaign has just announced that the Food Network stole the recipes in question from Senator Clinton. She also invented Boeuf Bourguignon, Oysters Rockefeller, Yorkshire Pudding, and hot chocolate.

Maybe McCain is right -- she is a trollop?

Seriously, I hope the MSM will stop giving the sleazy McCains a big pass and start "vetting" them as well.

More fun ideas:

McCain cheating on Carol McCain with Cindy

Here is the problem with Democratic campaigns. This should not be treated as a joke (which in reality it is), but as a convenient bludgeon. If it were a Democrat who did this, then every single republican talking head would be using this, every day. Listen now how often you hear the completely misleading story of Obama and arugala. They will never let that go until November. Just watch.

So Obama, or at the very least every surrogate for Obama needs to say once a day: "Talk about out of touch with ordinary Americans, here's what John McCain listed on his website as treasured family recipes-ahi tuna with napa cabbage, crab scampi and whole wheat spaghetti, and passion fruit mousse." Repeat every fickin' day.

Who cares if she stole or borrow it.
Make them OWN it.

What names do you think McCain is calling his plagarist wife this morning?

Napa cabbage is really good in stirfry, or eggrolls too. Apparently the "napa" (also "nappa") is a borrowed usage from Japanese, but I found no etymological data to support this.

Anyway, napa!

If McCain wins we will need to lock up the White House silver. Cindy McCain stole drugs from a charity, she stole her "family recipes" off the internet, and she stole her husband from a woman badly injured in an automobile accident. Clearly we cannot trust her with the nation's silver.
