Rasmussen: Dem Tom Udall Beats Both Republicans For Open Senate Seat

A new Rasmussen poll of New Mexico, where GOP Senator Pete Domenici is retiring, shows Rep. Tom Udall (D) with significant leads over both potential Republican nominees, Reps. Steve Pearce and Heather Wilson:

Udall (D) 54%, Pearce (R) 40%
Udall (D) 56%, Wilson (R) 36%

Among independent voters, Udall leads Pearce by 12 points, and beats Wilson by 19 points — perhaps owing to Wilson's involvement in the U.S. Attorney scandal damaging her credibility.

WOOOO!!!

(hey, TPM's comments are working smooth as hell, muchas gracias finally!)

Owing more to the fact that Heather Wilson has been an ineffective Rep for NM, a sock puppet for the Bush Administration, and (in one moment that burned a hole in my pysche) had the nerve to fake cry about Janet Jackson's boob-flash incident, saying "innocent little children were watching that!"

In her past runs for the House, Wilson hadn't faced in super strong challengers (even Patsy Madrid, who could have taken her out, had an awkward verbal gaffe near the end of the campaign that Wilson ran and re-ran in negative commercials. Lucky break for Wilson. For Madrid, not so much.)

Off-topic for the post, but related to the comment;
Did you know that Patricia Madrid is one of the chairs of the platform committee?

Yeah it's awesome. I hardly know what to do since comments post so fast now.

Why aren't Domenici and Wilson not serving prision sentences?

Failure of Congress to hold Rove, Meiers and Bolton in contempt for failing to testify about the Attorney Scandal?

I thought Pearce had decided to keep his Congressional seat.

Udall should be able to beat Wilson handily. Pearce might make it a little more competitive because he'd draw his strength from the under-represented southern part of the state, but most of the people live from Albuquerque north and there's a reason that people pursuaded Udall to run, once Richardson said that he wasn't going to do it.

Interesting Rasmussen GE numbers released today for NM, Ohio, Montana, Alaska.

NM. Obama up 3pts over McCain, Hillary down 3pts.

Ohio. McCain up 7 over Obama , up 5 over Hillary.

Alaska and Montana, McCain up 5pts over Obama in both states.
McCain up 25pts vs Hillary in Alaska, up 18 pts in Montana.

Pearce is one of the most openly far right members in Congress. He was also shown onstage smiling and approving of the Tiger Woods as Obama remarks at a recent McCain gathering.
