Obama Hits North Carolina Airwaves With Two More Ads

Ads, ads, and still more ads: Here are two new spots from Obama that just went up in North Carolina.

The first features Obama offering his respect for values like "hard work, community, keeping your word," and showcasing his promises to fight special interests on behalf of the sort of working people that Camp Hillary has been insisting he's culturally out of touch with...

The second tries to showcase his respect for the military by highlighting his work on behalf of veterans. "As commander-in-chief, my job is to keep you safe," Obama says. "Part of keeping you safe is maintaining the finest military in the world."

No mention of Hillary in either spot.

Good. The rank and file military love Obama and I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't spread to their families.

NC is full of military families.

user-pic

Ad infinitum.

thohillaryclinton? Quit shouting, and what's a millary?

well, those are nice ads, but i think this will help obama more:

http://www.thedemocraticstrategist.org/strategist/2008/04/dueling_endorsements_in_the_ta.php

Nice link, kensdad. I knew there was more to my hatred of Krzyzewski than merely the fact that he is a rat-faced leader of Satan's spawn.

user-pic

Gosh. Are you a Tar Heel fan by any chance?

Thanks kensdad for the link.

nope, i'm a UCLA Bruins fan... but, i'm just keepin' it real. i support Hillary, but there's no reason why i can't share a good link with you Obama supporters from time to time... it's easy to forget that we're all dems sometimes ;-)

user-pic

I'm not happy that Coach K is a Republican, but over the past few years anti-Duke sentiment has become unsportsmanlike and often borderline racist (i.e., the most hated players are exclusively the white ones). Not saying you have to like the Blue Devils, but please chill out.

user-pic

Jeez, with that kind of thin skin, I hope you're never with of a visiting team at Cameron.

thohillary clinton, just another troll. Why are these people allowed out of the mental ward is beyond me. Can some one page the doctor, we have one that flew over the cuckoo's nest wondering the blogs again.

I support Clinton, but there is no doubt in my mind that Obama will rebound in NC to a big lead. Everyone was just as scared when Wright story first broke. This, too, will pass, unless Wright refuses to go away until the primary.

Honest observation here.

If more Hillary supporters carried themselves like you and Kensdad have in this post, it would be so much easier to support Sen. Clinton and wish her well.

Like Kensdad said, it's sometimes really hard to tell that we're on the same side.

Ultimately I think they're going to need to run together, JFK/LBJ style (or vice versa), so we're all going to have to make friendly real quick and take on the real bad guy who is really getting a pass from the press.

Wright is not going away.

He is writing a book on change.

And then this guy pipes up and I'm right back to hating all things Hillary.

Sorry, I tried to be united...but gotalife is sucking the passion for the democratic party from my very veins.

cheer up, jaysin... most of us are actually pretty likable. no matter who you support today, hillary/obama will start looking good compared to mccain in the Fall, and if that's not enough, think of all those obnoxious republican talking heads (no, not lanny davis) who can really make our blood boil! i'm sure that listening to those a-holes bash Obama will get me into line pretty damn quick (as you suggested above)...

True.

There's no doubt that I'm voting for anyone without a (R) after their name, but sometimes the supporters on both sides are really disconcerting (myself included, unfortunately).

I'm sure I'll get in line. If you have any pull with fellow Hillary supporters, could you suggest to them to lay off on attacking those whose support she'll need to win in November?

I'll try to do the same on our side.

Either way, may one of us win in November.

Also, I frankly think Obama distanced himself totally from Wright today, and if I were him, I would consider it done. No more discussing, no more giving it credence, just move on. He cannot control Wright, but he can refuse to discuss over and over and over. IGNORE Wright.

LOVE your Obamaham Lincoln!

Positive motivation. No scare tactics. No bogeymen. Nice ads. Might even be effective, who knows.

"Sharpton blasts Obama:
'He's grandstanding in front of white people' :

Barack Obama made a call for nonviolence in the aftermath of the Sean Bell verdict - infuriating the Rev. Al Sharpton, who accused the presidential candidate of trying to "grandstand in front of white people," sources told The Post"

I guess they will pile on now.

Do we still want to discuss race?

Geez.

Do you want to discuss anything? It seems like all you want to do is toss out slogans and then see who takes the bait. I have yet to see you engage in a genuine conversation.

If you don't get that Sharpton is trying to help Obama, you are missing something in your brain.

As an BO supporter, I am sooo bumbed out right now!!!! The PA loss, even though it was expected, and Rev JW little press tour has taken the wind out of my sails a bit...The only bright spot is that i prefer this stuff to come out now as opposed to coming out in September or October...

:(

user-pic

Well, and the little presser Obama gave today where he forcefully threw his reverend under the bus has sparked quite a turn around in the MSM coverage of him. Suddenly they see him as strong and presidential....least Joe "Dead Intern" Scarborough has done 180.

I think this term "threw under bus" is a bit overused. Nowadays, anytime you change your opinion of someone you used to be more agreeable to, you threw them under a bus. Did Hillary throw Penn under a bus? Did Bush throw Rumsfeld or Gonzalez under a bus? Often, using that expression is simply to demonize someone, in this case, Obama. Wright does not work for Obama (obviously!). Obama stood by him until Wright made it impossible for him to do so any longer. Who threw who?

i want to throw the phrase "throw under the bus"... under the bus.

Never get toohigh or too low. Senator Obama doesn't, so why should we. Stay focused on the goal. We soldier on.

I'm pretty bummed too. I suppose that from a pragmatic point of view, dumping Wright was something he had to do. I think the only thing Wright did wrong was to speak frankly in front of "mixed" company. Obama didn't want to spend the rest of the campaign trying to parse it for those who don't hear that stuff on a regular basis.

What a shame.

In response to dndobson.

....(sigh) Long day. I mean franklyn....

i know this isn't a rev. wright thread, but if you wanna read a great summary of the whole thing that puts into into a brilliant perspective, then go here:

Amen.

Thanks, kensdad.

thanks for the link.

Based on Barack’s triple back flip today, if you are part of the “black community” or Barack’s white granny you got to be nervous. Please reconcile Barack’s statement today to the press with what he said in Philadelphia about Jeremiah Wright: "I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe". Yes he can and yes he did.
Politics of change?
I think we have always had politicians as sleazy as Obama. Politics as usual.

Racist Alert. Dembillc, the Aryan Nation Troll(ANT) has logged on from his compound's sewer system.

Hey Liam you little racist troll, go crawl back under your rock. I can smell your stink all the way from Iran. Leave your address and I will send you a bar of soap you can gargle with.

girls, girls, you're both pretty...

Next up: The MSM demands that Obama apologize for O.J. Simpson.

Off topic but does Bill Clinton every sleep? He seems to have about 4 times more events then either Obama or Hillary.

apparently, they were giving him 3 appearances per day and he told the campaign to give him 6 or even 8 if it is at all possible...

bill clinton is being overlooked and under-rated in this primary season. the media only covers him when he makes a mistake, but he's making an impact and helping hillary immensely.

i know that doesn't fit the media spin of "bill has lost his touch (i.e. he's a fuck-up now, haha)," but he's getting hillary 1000's of votes in every state, one-by-one (and so is chelsea)... unfortunately for obama he doesn't have anywhere near the same surrogate-power as hillary. just keepin' it real!

I know, he needs to slow down but he is just getting ready for general.

President Clinton took over the Clinton machine.

user-pic

"President" Clinton can't take over anything without violating the constitution, if Hillary is elected.

It might get interesting watching the government trying to decide how close that one can be cut.

Yes if your girl makes it, gotalife, I've decided that Tao just took us there and I'm sitting out on the portal, blazing em up, sending the smoke out into the incredibly beautiful New Mexico sky and forgetting all about the end of the longest existing democratic republic the world has seen yet.

so have at it.

Stop hitting me with your new avatar and telling me to "have at it" with that weed you are smoking.

Gatalife, you gotta love that Reverend Wright call it correctly the other day. He indicated that Barack is the kind of guy who will say politically what needs to be said regardless of what he believes. Well, Barack proved him right. Two months ago he had never heard Wright say anything objectionable in 20 years. Now, apparently, in the last eight weeks, aliens have taken over the body and mind of Wright and he is saying things he has never said before.

It was a bizarre meltdown today.

They are still analyzing that mess today.

Man it was ugly.

Obama, Michelle, and their buddy Rev Wright, really seem very bitter. I guess that happens when you live in Million dollar houses in the suburbs. I feel so sorry for the lot of them.

"Mrs. Clinton said the tax on the oil companies, which have been reporting record profits as oil prices soar, would cover all of the lost revenue from the federal tax on gasoline and diesel fuel. She also said no highway projects would suffer."

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/29/us/politics/29campaign.html?_r=2&hp=&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print&adxnnlx=1209488889-ezW0nzooAsTl6HD0yGcN8A&oref=slogin

Try reading something people. The gas tax is a small part of her plan.

Obama is wrong on this one.

Don't forget to buy Wright's new book,"Obama tossed me under the bus."

Yes, Obama is wrong because he only has um, experience with this in IL. Does Hillary? McCain?
IL did this a while back and it was stupid stupid stupid. We are still cleaning up the friggin pot holes and it didn't make one bit of difference in how much we were paying for gas. Even worse - the prices went up MORE once the tax went back into effect.
This is also why the WaPo gave both plans 2 pinocchios and almost every single financial publication says this is a dumb idea.

Besides, how come Hillary only came up with this after McCain. Talk about plagerism! I would have more respect for her if she at least stole a good idea.

user-pic

Wright is wrong.

Not only are gottalie and dembilic "different", they are also "deficient".

Deficient in reason, in logic, in honesty, and in decency.

No mam.

I post the truth and nothing but the truth.

The gas tax suspension makes no sense. The oil companies will charge what the market will bear; and they already know they can get at least $3.60. Thus, some portion of the tax reduction will flow out of our pockets and into their's. When the tax in reinstated after the election and everybody starts screaming at the instant 18.4-cents increase (24.3 for diesel), Big Oil will be blamed. But to paraphrase Dick Cheney, "So what?". In the meantime, watch the potholes multiply.

user-pic

How am I hitting you with the new gravatar, gotalife?

user-pic

I can't believe I'm saying this - but I'm trying to figure something out about the gravatar. I tried a new one tonight but Lis,b couldn't see it - all she saw was a big red X. So I changed it back.

So I'm wondering what you mean - did it change here?

Yes, it changed.

user-pic

I give up.

It doesn't matter. Time to go read the end of the First and Last book in the Tales of the Otori.

I'll miss them - those are damn good books.

pay no attention to goatlife, he isn't saying anything worth discussing.

As far as the ads go, I think they are great and well-done, and I am feeling a whole lot better about Obama keeping on a positive tack.

These ads are out of place. Obama has absolutely no credibility discussing "hard work, community, keeping your word," He's outed as a liar by his own pastor, friend, spiritual advisor, and mentor of over 20 years. Even today, he demonstrated an air of entitlement and arrogance by criticizing Wright for hogging the airwaves during the past several years as if they were his by right.

I am glad that Wright has exposed himself for his hate, racism, and plain offensive thinking. His ideas set integration back 50 years. That Obama has 20 years of very close association leaves no credibility in his continue claims he didn't know Wright.

Obama is full of lies, clearly doesn't keep his word, and really has no history to suggest he has any understanding of hard work. He is pathetic and these ads will not help cover this up at this late date.

Yes, there is no way Wright or Obama can ever atone for the original sin of being black, can they, Matthew.

Don't feed the slobbering reptile. Just move along.

Yes, if agitated, he may eat what he's holding there...

"Obama has absolutely no credibility discussing "hard work, community, keeping your word," He's outed as a liar by his own pastor, friend, spiritual advisor, and mentor of over 20 years."

You have to love how a person who supports a candidate addicted to lying would question anyones truthfulness, or question a person "keeping their word" when their candidate once said Michigan and Florida wouldn't count - as for "hard word", that's rich, since your candidate is running on her husbands record. That being said, you get beaten to death with the "he was in a hate filled church for 20 years" argument, especially after yesterday - when Tamran Hall, MSNBC anchor, claimed to have gone to that church in Chicago as well as known people who have gone to that church for decades - and co-sign Obama's sentiments that they too never heard anything but inclusive sermons while at Trinity.

"That Obama has 20 years of very close association leaves no credibility in his continue claims he didn't know Wright."

..just like Hillary's associations with Norman Hsu, Peter Paul, Harry Lee. Yes, you are a clown.

"hard work"

Reading this thread, I see more sane folks than the crazies.

I can only hope that that's true nationwide.

Run a clean race and may the better person win. Don't run a clean race and all we get is crazies.

To offer the Democrats the foreign policy plank that ends in the obliteration of Iran by nuke disqualifies Sen Clinton for the presidency. That she made the threats herself with such blathering ease disqualifies her for the Senate.

Sen Clinton is not electable, not with her negatives and 37% approval ratings as a *candidate*. It's the damned lying. I supported her once, but never again under any circumstance.

That we're busy rifling through church bulletins while this illegal threat goes unanswered indicates this election will not be about change.

Obama is not the issue.

Pax,
M.

Great ads.

user-pic

So Obama now is "appalled." Appalled that his "spiritual mentor" is a complete fruitcake racist who spouts crazy ignorant shit. And somehow Obama just never noticed any of this over two decades. I recall more than a few of you wer eagerly praising the good Rev, a few even blathering about they wished Obama would pick Wright as VP, because the Rev was such a straight-talking, talking-truth-to-power kinda guy. Well, I see that's come to a screeching halt.

Obama - just another dumb bunny, with a tony pedigree. A black Dem version of W.

Greg, you've got a mistake in the transcript: It's "As CIC, my job 'will be' to keep you safe." Not "is", which sounds like he's being presumptuous, or else prescient.

A "millary" is a way of describing HRC's hawkish outlook, ie "obliterate" the middle east.

user-pic

well, Clinton should have been more precise and said obliterate the Iranian military, if she's going to play tough.

Eh, politicians are all very limited people. Why do you fools take them seriously at all? Especially Obama, a quintessential empty suit.

"Especially Obama, a quintessential empty suit."

You have to love how people clumsily claim that the president of his Harvard Law review, civil rights lawyer, and professor of constitutional law and international politics - is an "empty suit". It doesn't get any more intellectually lazy folks.

JennOfArk,

You are rediculous and offensive to suggest 'sin of being Black'. Obama, Wright, and continuing supporters are challenged with being hate-filled and racist, even if only by condoning and facilitating racism and hate. Look at many of the responses here on TPM, folks not only defend or excuse hate and racism, but often pile on with their own, with derogatory insults, and simply confirm what I and many, many others are pointing out about Obama.

I realize that I am likely quite a bit older than you and others here, but it really saddens me to see how little progress we've made in removing racism and hate from public discourse. Further, it is equally troubling to see the lack of respect shared and expressed by Obama supporters in general. If this is the state of liberalism today, it is morally bankrupt. Definitely there is nothing 'progressive' about this beyond being a new label for being ignorant, boorish, and out-of-step with the rest of America.

Matthew
http://www.TheIndependentView.com

"Obama, Wright, and continuing supporters are challenged with being hate-filled and racist, even if only by condoning and facilitating racism and hate."

I want to know, in what way, is Obama racist? Please cite me a specific instance instead of clumsily pulling accusations out of your ass..

user-pic

"Rediculous" as you may find my response, I'm not the one who said:

These ads are out of place. Obama has absolutely no credibility discussing "hard work, community, keeping your word," He's outed as a liar by his own pastor, friend, spiritual advisor, and mentor of over 20 years. Even today, he demonstrated an air of entitlement and arrogance by criticizing Wright for hogging the airwaves during the past several years as if they were his by right.

You're the one who accused Obama of being shiftless, lazy, and uppity. Gee, I've never heard anyone say such things about a black person. Oh...wait...yes I have. I've been hearing racists describe blacks that way for years. Now I'm seeing you do it, only very cleverly using different words to express the exact same idea. As for Wright, I don't agree with everything he's said and I don't think his clowning antics in public do anyone any good, but I have to say that in the main, I think he's right. This is an imperialistic and racist nation. He is, as a pastor, bound to speak not in a way that satisfies you or anyone else, but in a way that expresses what he sees as falling short of god's plan and Christ's teachings. I can't fault him for that. But since Wright isn't running for president, I don't have to be too concerned with him anyway. Because I'm not a racist who thinks I can divine the thoughts and motives of all black men simply because they are expressed by one black man.

You could cut to the chase and significantly shorten the tripe you post here by simply saying: "Obama's black...OOOGA BOOOGA!!!" Because that's really the underlying idea in your every post.

eh, for AAs, getting on Harvard Law Review is not based on grades, as it is for everyone else. So no, I am not impressed. And "Professor" Obama has no published scholarship at all to boast of. So, yes, he's an empty suit, and you're another dumb bunny : )

So, tell us about your time at the Harvard Law Review.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

He's an empty suit to you, but then again licking glass and masturbating to Mein Kampf might be intellectually challenging endeavors to you - based on your nonsensical response that makes you come across like a geriatric pair of boobs. Typical Obama detractor, always a product of inbreeding who wants to pass judgment - usually incorrectly. :)

I'm still waiting to hear your IQ. People who post comments like yours almost always end up throwing their IQ in everyone's face. I'm waiting.

From what I have been able to get from numerous articles, the affirmative action preference on the HLR may have come into affect after Obama's time. I was at law school at UVa in the same general time period and those issues were a hot topic at the time, and I know that faculty diversity was a hot topic at Harvard Law during the time Obama was there.

In any event, however, Obama graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE at Harvard, so he undoubtedly had the grades to qualify.

Furthermore, I think it's silly to minimize the fact that he was elected by the editorship of the HLR to become its president.

Everything I've read about the impression that Obama made on his classmates at Harvard Law fits with the approach and attitude that Obama says he wants to bring to the White House.

user-pic

Sorry, the above was meant to be a response to Ludmilla.

Perhaps I'm easily amused, but if you watch the above ad and then the other Obama ad further down the page at TPM Election Central, they have the same extras in the same clothes going through exactly the same motions in the background.
