Obama Campaign Confirms Joint Fundraising Committee With The DNC
Obama spokesperson Bill Burton just confirmed to me that the campaign has set up a joint fundraising committee with the Democratic National Committee, a development that was first reported today by Mark Halperin.
The move is unusual in the sense that it's typically the sort of thing that's done once there is a nominee.
That the DNC has done this with Obama before the contest is settled reflects two realities: First, that Obama is the likely the nominee; and second, that McCain is forging ahead with the building of a campaign apparatus while the two Dems continue to pour resources into an intra-Dem contest with no immediate end in sight.
"This is an effort to be a team player and make sure we have the resources we need," Burton says.
The joint committee can raise cash in far larger chunks than candidates -- they can take in $28,500 from individuals, more than 10 times the $2,300 contribution limit for candidates.
Similar discussions are ongoing between Hillary and the DNC, but no deal has been struck yet, Halperin reports.

"Well, we know Hillary can still thump Precious being outspent 3:1."
Turning that argument back at you, even though she is the wife of a successful two term president who had the entire Pennsylvania political machine behind her, with 30+ years of public service - she only won by 9 points and received a measly 10 delegates facing a guy who only entered the publics consciousness 4 years ago? That guy shouldn't be winning, but he is..

The "outspent" argument is really lame, OK? The reason he's able to outspend her is also the reason he's winning. He used his money to carve Hillary's 25-point lead down to 9. That's hardly a stunning win on Hillary's part.
How do you suppose her lame "I was outspent" argument would play in the general election? I'm sure Democrats would be very understanding.
If Hillary can't stand the heat, she should get out of the kitchen. But no matter what, she should QUIT WHINING.

In 1992, Bill Clinton was the odds on favorite going in to Super Tuesday and he swept nearly every state. The campaign was effectively over the day after.

one image that keeps popping up in my mind is that this summer and fall, in communities all over america, is the contrast between a mccain rally and an obama rally. the sheer difference in excitement and energy between mccain's campaign and obama's could well be the overall narrative we see this fall, (that, and a whole lot of republican boogie-man shit storms that mean little).
imagine what the contrast would be between hillary and mccain? about the same level of passion, imo.

everyone shitting on obama, remember something: how long have democrats wanted a ethical, inspirational, game-changing politician to run a top notch campaign for the presidency, and bring congress along for the win? a long time. "This is outrageous and supremely un-Democratic. If Howard Dean canโt raise money on his own for the DNC, so be it. Democrats have spoken about his poor leadership and lack of charisma. He may be desperate for cash, but he will just have to wait until the nomination is decided. The Clinton campaign should file an immediate complaint about this proposal."
Makes sense, actually. Anything they can do to hobble the Democratic Party would seem to fit right in with their strategy.

Brand new to national politics, Kanne?
I grew up in New Jersey with early June primaries.
My kids are growing up in Kentucky with late May primaries.
We get to vote. Our votes determine our delegates, and our delegates speak our thoughts at the convention.
But we rarely get to pretend that our first-choice candidates can win the nomination. That's because candidates usually leave the race once the numbers show them unable to win.
Senator Clinton chooses to stay in, but everyone who does the math knows she can't win the nomination. She will not get 292 of the last 409 pledged delegates. She will not get 200 of the last remaining 291 super-delegates. She will not be the nominee.
If you prefer dreaming about the one who's lost to working for the one who can win, that's your privilege.
Your fantasy, though, is bad for the country and the party. In less than two months, Senator Clinton will be asking you to cut it out. I hope you will consider the reasoned, patriotic, responsible reasons she offers you.

The $28,500 total is incorrect. $28,500 is the contribution limit for individuals to national party committees. With joint fundraising committees, the maximum amount that may be contributed is the total amount that may be contributed to all participants without exceeding any limits. In this case, that'd make it $28,500 DNC + $2,300 Obama.
Here, I'm assuming the joint fundraising committee would only be raising for Obama's general election, since the national parties (generally) remain neutral in primaries.
http://www.fec.gov/info/PartyGuide/AppendixB.htm
April 25, 2008 4:45 PM | Reply | Permalink
To prevent confusion, $30,800 is the actual amount that can be contributed to a joint fundraising committee consisting of only the DNC and Obama.

Yet another example of Obama building up the Party and a movement, while Hillary attacks it. He raises money for the DNC, she has her big money supporters extort the DNC to get Party leaders to support Hillary. It shows the differences between the two candidates clearly, on one hand you have Yes WE Can, and on the other you have "Screw 'Em":

And it's not the only example. The Obama campaign has also announced their 50-state voter registration drive. In other words, while Hillary is working her pantsuited tail off to defeat the Democratic candidate, the Democratic candidate is working his tail off to defeat the Republicans by registering voters and raising funds for the Party.

TIME TO FACE FACTS !!!! The media has diagnosed every demo there is....the old...the young...the rich....the poor...the educated....the uneducated....the bowlers, gun toters and beer drinkers.....And somehow ALWAYS finds a way to give the advantage to Clinton. But just today, the media is finally starting to raise the most incredible point in the whole race. HILLARY HAS LOST THE SUPPORT OF AN ENTIRE RACE OF PEOPLE !!!!!!!! Do you know how incredibly sad this fact is ? Hillary Clinton (who's husband was so loved as to have been called The First Black President) has alienated the black people of America to such a degree that there is no way blacks will support her EVER. This has nothing to do with Obama !!!! Keep in mind folks....Hillary started this campaign with close to 82% of the black support. But as blacks learned more about her (Goldwater Girl....Against Civil Rights Act of '64...etc.) combined with her LBJ statements and Bill's minimizing of Obama (fairy tale...Jesse won S.Carolina too...etc) blacks were first of all shocked...and then incredibly offended by these realities to a degree that can never be recovered. WE FEEL DECEIVED !!!! We hope that our friends of all races understand how we as blacks feel. This is the main story that needs to get out to the superdelegates. Hillary ABSOLUTELY KILLED HER ELECTABILTY. Simple as that !
