North Carolina Governor To Endorse Hillary
Hillary Clinton is set to pick up a major North Carolina endorsement tomorrow, with popular two-term Governor Mike Easley coming on board in a primary where she's run way behind in the polls.
It's unclear whether Easley's endorsement will have enough time to be effective -- after all, the election is only a week away, and there's been a competitive primary to succeed him as governor between two candidates who are both pro-Obama. That said, it certainly couldn't hurt.

With everything that has happened so far, this is HUGE, not to mention the fact that it is also a SD pick up by Hillary.

Surely the SD status of the fellow is the really big news here, no? Clinton needs to win more supers than Obama and so far he is picking up 2-3 for every one she gets. This is indeed a big catch for her and something of which she should be justifiably pleased and proud.

Easley is also a Catholic, possibly strengthening her in that demographic, which has become a force in NC, even apart from the huge hispanic population (which is mostly not made up of citizens, I gather).

She told you the tide has turned.
So lets ride that tide right back to the White House.

Easley is not terribly popular anymore. He also has little in the way of organization that'll benefit Clinton. This is not an Ed Rendell kind of endorsement.

Easley has no real following within the Democratic Party in NC. He's be an absent Gov. who has shunned his owe party rank and file. His major claim to fame is passing a lottery here. Otherwise, he is mostly joked about as the do-nothing say-nothing Governor. There is no "Easley Political Machine" in NC.
His predecessor, Jim Hunt, was a much beloved figure in the Democratic Party in NC.
The only big news here is that he actually endorsed eother candidate - given his long and distinguished career at doing nothing. But this just adds to his sad legacy.

Mike Easley is a squirt of piss. I hope he has a painful heart attack and live to have another painful heart attack.

I know you're probably hurt and upset right now with the avalanche of bad news today with Obama. But lashing out against your fellow Democratic brothers and sisters is neither wise, or necessary. Get behind Hillary, with another 4-8 yrs of experience Barack can always run again?

Why don't we all get behind, say, Dodd? Or Gravel?

Alternately, Barack can win this election and maybe help old lady Hillary cross the sidewalk when he's finished running the country in eight years.

That's major news!
Also, if there is still any question that the GOP wants to run against Obama rather than Hillary, Carl Rove has just erased it. He is offering free advice to Obama on how to win.

Let me guess, you also think the Hamas "endorsement" of Obama is relevant.

Karl Rove is offering free advice to Obama? And I'm sure it's all sincere advice, and Karl only has our best interests at heart!
Karl Rove loves nothing more than messing with Democrats' minds.

It is okay.
Take a break Obama supporters like he did at the beach.
We will win with Clinton.

Endorsements really don't mean all that much. People aren't sheep; they tend to make up their own minds about who to vote for.
Oh wait, he's endorsing Hillary! Wow! It's a whole new primary season! This is HUGE!
It's even a two-fer -- an endorsement and a super-delegate! We're turning a corner, um, I mean, the tide is turning! Another several weeks like this and Hillary will be unstoppable!

This is in keeping with Hillary's roughly one superdelegate announcement every couple of weeks. Which puts her on pace to win clinch the nomination in 2012.

Note to Eric: He's not popular. In fact, he's being investigated for corruption and declined to run for Senator because of his staggering unpopularity.
Eric, you my friend, need to do better sourcing.

The War continues . . .
I've never seen anything like it. I'm actually a little surprised that Hillary isn't doing better in a state like North Carolina, considering that only 22% of North Carolinians are black - one of the lower percentages in the South - significantly lower than in South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama where Obama romped. It's closer to Tennessee or Arkansas where Hillary prevailed.
April 28, 2008 11:52 PM | Reply | Permalink
They're one-third of the Dem primary electorate (likely a bit higher this time). His support is also buttressed by a growing "creative class" here that states like Alabama/Mississippi lack.

People talk about how well Obama does among black voters, but remember that he does just as well among well educated young professionals, and NC has droves of well educated young professionals. All of those scientists and engineers working in the research triangle will come through for him just as strongly as the black voters of SC or GA came through for him.

I think education level (maybe even intellect) has a great deal to do with whom you support. "Working class white voter" is a euphemism for poor, uneducated white. I have nothing against that (it's my parents background), but Obama needs to do a better job explaining that we need someone a lot smarter than them to be in the WH.
I have advanced degrees, but still am hardly rich (I would say I'm 'working class') and everyone I know with graduate school education supports Obama. Maybe it's because we see "ideas" (maybe "ideals") as more important than short term pocketbook issues.

Obama dread turns to glee for the GOP:
"For months, GOP operatives spoke with dread of the prospects of running against Barack Obama in the fall. But after weeks of controversies over his former pastor, his views of blue-collar voters and even the sincerity of his patriotism, Republicans now are ready to place a $500,000 bet that Obama will be a heavy burden on down-ballot Democrats."

Sorry folks, Obama needs to drop out.

yawn, Obama will win North Carolina. If he wins Indiana he could end our misery now. If Hillabee wins Indiana then she gets to stay in it until June 15th. Obama will need to regain some momentum again before then but we'll probably have a couple more back and forths of momentum in the next couple of months. oh well, so it goes. wake me up when it is over...

This contest will go on until every state has voted, but that's been clear for a while now. Clinton wouldn't drop out even if she lost Indiana (which is still quite possible, SUSA notwithstanding). Obama has been damaged by the recent pile-on, but even a single-digit win NC will be sufficient to change the narrative. Clinton will get her wins in KY and WV. And Obama will win the last two states, which should answer any concerns about "momentum" going into the convention.

A great endorsment from the Governor.
Obama has done so much destruction to the Democratic party that he really should be ashamed of himself. Obamabots keep saying that whites are unwilling to vote for Obama because he’s black, and Obama surrogates keep claiming the Clintons are using race against him. Obama appropriated Malcolm X’s “hoodwinked, bamboozled, okie-doke” speech and sent a clear signal that racial politics was on the table. Why would the Clinton's want to pull the Race card when there are so many Black voters in the party?
The Obamabots Looking for racism in every moment of a white person’s political campaign is as bad as being racist. No, actually, it is racist. All Obamabots are doing is ticking off more white people who won’t vote for him. Somebody needs to explain to Barack Obama that in the General Election, the majority of the electorate does not consist of old hippies, college kids, worshipers on this blog like SCMaddan and Buckeye Nation, and African Americans.

She might've had a chance in North Carolina a few weeks ago, but unfortunately, it looks like the "anything that sticks", "kitchen-sink" negative campaigning that Hillary's campaign supported to such a degree has opened a HUGE can of worms.
Specifically, there is now both widespread gossip and serious media speculation, with numerous confirming accounts, that Hillary Clinton is either a closeted bisexual or lesbian... to the point that it seems inevitable that it will be seriously broken by the news, or perhaps introduced into the debates.
The problem here isn't that she's bisexual or lesbian. It's that she's closeted. If she actually had the courage to come out, I might be far more supportive of her... but otherwise, given the inappropriate nature of her reported passes at women and her apparent lover being given a highly-paid role on her campaign, She's acting Bill Clinton in a pantsuit.
Which makes you wonder... did she learn nothing?!
Meanwhile, the entire American pubic will see "HILLARY GAY LOVE SCANDAL" at the checkout counter, while her campaign goes lalala and pretends it doesn't exist. And the LGBT community will wonder how much longer she'll continue to quietly betray them by staying in the closet, aware that she'll probably turn on them and their agenda in a knee-jerk, toe-tapping Larry Craig kinda way the first chance she gets.

This is a nice pickup for Hillary, and I'm not gonna trash Easley, but, really, is this "HUGE", but Obama adding 6 supers to Hillary's 3 since Pennsylvania is not significant?

FWIW, I had a feeling this was going to happen. I know a guy from Easley's inner circle fairly well. At a Christmas party, I broached the subject of Obama. He said flatly that America wasn't ready for a black President. About two months ago, I kidded him about Easley being one of the undeclared superdelegates. His response (referring to my demographic's support of Obama - I'm 34) led me to believe that this guy had Easley's ear, and that there wasn't any hope of an Obama endorsement.
I would rather have the 15,000 screaming folks with me in the Dean Dome last night (we waited until almost 10:30 on a Monday night to hear Obama speak) on my side than Mike Easley. Almost nobody left before he arrived, even the numerous folks who brought their kids (like me).
He unveiled a line last night that was new to me, and quite effective. We have to stop figuring out how to win elections, and focus on reminding people why we SHOULD win elections. That's 100% correct. And Obama can do it.

I'm sure this will be every bit as significant as the Deval Patrick endorsement.

speaking of NC, a state I unfortunately know all too well because I have relatives who live there, it's almost as nasty a place as Indiana. Ever see the movie Deliverance? Bunch of dumb hicks.
But I still respect a dumb hick more than I respect that slimey weazel Edwards. It speaks well of Obama and Clinton that neither was willing to pay whatever his price is. so far anyway.
Although I am 100% sure if he had a choice between having his dumbass son back alive, or being President for a day even, he'd pick the latter in a heartbeat. I'm equally sure he'd pick being Prez over a cure for cancer.

First and foremost: DCSHUNGU! Welcome back! You will find you have an ally in gotalife . . . Although gotalife reads less than you and can't logically sting two thoughts together.
2nd: Silver Heron,
That's a bit strong. Easley is an ass with a tad of a race related issue or two but not death worthy . . . Unless you has facts not in evidence and are willing to share . . .
Third, this is an exericse in futility. In the case of the last 70 odd Super-delagtes to declare E-I-G-H-T (8) have been for Senator Clinton and they have all been flawed, old guard DEMs. Clinton can go ghost-write her next book.

Don't get your hopes up Hillariods. Easly is a cipher in this state's politics and his endorsement means diddly He's got the charisma of a Velveeta on white cheese sandwich, no organization to use for her, no favors to call, no popularity to draw on, and no record to highlight. He's been an adequate governor but everyone in the state laughed out loud back in early 06 when people were talking about him as a presidential candidate. Vilsack had a better chance.

This is Great News for Hillary.
This is much bigger than a congressman or senator endorsement, most of what Obama gets now and then.
Obama is on a slide.... he will soon be history! Him and his left wing nutty friends he's trying to hide now. We now know his true colors!
Hillary has the momentum!
Go girl!
