New NRCC Ad Makes Fun Of Dem Candidate's Name
The new NRCC ad in a Louisiana special election for the House has an interesting motif against Democratic nominee Don Cazayoux (prounced CAZH-you) — some forced schoolyard-style word-play around his name:
"Cazayoux, 'Tax You,'" the announcer says, not quite getting the pronunciation just right. "Hard to spell, harder to pay for."
Of course, there's a pretty thin record of scoring political points by making a joke of someone's French surname in Louisiana. But we'll see how it plays this time on May 3rd.

Given that lots of the Cajuns are of French descent and have French names (remember Sen. John Breaux?), I think this may actually be a huge mistake that could really backfire on them!
It would be like making fun of someone's Italian name in an Italian-American district, just a really dumb thing to do!

Yes, they probably have been reading sites like TPM to see how common it is among folks to twist names around for insults and political gain. BTW, I notice you say "Repugs", guess maybe Bush's Democrat party instead of Democratic party isn't a big problem or disrespect either?

As a descendant of a Mayflower family, and a staunch Puritan, I find the Louisiana Purchase the most shameful chapter in our nation's history. Fun fact: Napoleon invented taxes-- damned liberal!

Oh? And Barak Hussein Obama is pretty solid Muslim name. Shall we deport him too?

Matthew: Did you lose your brain again? Your posts used to be simply annoying but now they are just plain pathetic. It's sad to imagine the life of a troll with no humanity; just the same xenophobic garbage spewing out every day.

At the risk of stooping to their level…
The party that put Bush and Dick in the White House should probably avoid making fun of people's names. Just sayin'…

It's silly, but not any more than McSame or General Betray-Us.

Yeah, seriously. When I saw that General Betray-us ad, I couldn't frikkin' believe it (well, actually I could because MoveOn has a history of that sort of sophomoric crap). I've been guilty of accidentally misspelling "evilangelical" a time or two, however. Oops--there I did it again. Sometimes I think I just type too fast...

This kind of garbage, unfortunately, works very well with Republicans. Remembers those rows of grinning idiots, waving their rubber flip-flops back and forth and saying, "flip-flop, flip-flop..." during the last presidential election? If you're a Republican, you tend to see the world in very simple, very stupid terms. Think gotalife or Matthew Weaver, only slightly worse.

We had this happen in my congressional district with Linda Stender. I can't count the number of times I heard the ridiculous "Linda Stender is a spender" line in my socially liberal fiscally conservative North Jersey district. The incumbent won, I'm not sure the ads were at all a factor as I don't think we've elected a democratic congressman in 40 years (my town had a run of not electing a Democrat for mayor for something like 80 years).

Mr. Weaver,
You read as if you are afeared that your mommy will have to wear a b-ur-ur-urka with her combat boots is Americans go tradegically SANE and vote for their nation.

You all seem to miss the point of my post. While your outrage over the name calling in the Louisana add is welcomed, it is not matched by your own words. Folks here constantly name call and twist candidates names. Even an earlier post here suggesting to deport someone for their French name. All I did was ask if this was acceptable, then shouldn't we also deport Barack Hussein Obama because of his Muslim name?
Now, if you reread the post, you'll see that this is what I wrote. Further, as many of you note my other posts, you know full well that I have repeatedly objected to the insults, name calling, and other derogatory language used by posters and used in the campaigns.
Why can't folks have a mature discussion?

Since blunt irony seems to be lost on you, it seems that it is necessary to point out the obvious, that the post calling for the deportation of people with French names was a joke. That is, it is making fun of people who would judge someone based on their name or their heritage by imitating the message but exaggerating the tone of such a person. The exaggeration is intended to reveal that the message is in jest, but it seems that you find the tone of the post to be perfectly normal and without irony. So please tell me, how is it possible to have a mature discussion with someone who thinks that calling people with certain names "etoufee-eating surrender monkeys" and calling for their deportation is not a joke but a serious part of the debate? But to answer your question, in case it still isn't clear to you, deporting someone with a Muslim or Arabic or African name would not be acceptable because no one here actually thinks deporting people with French names is acceptable.
It is also unclear whether you understand that Barack Obama is an African (Luo) name. Hussein came from his grandfather, who adopted it when he converted to Islam. However, to characterize the name "Barack Hussein Obama" as Muslim rather than African when only the given middle name represents an Islamic connection (from two generations ago) seems to be a deliberate attempt to perpetuate the rumor that Obama is himself a Muslim. But then again, you have already proven yourself inept enough at reading subtlety that perhaps you don't understand the political implications of this, and this is merely an indication of your ignorance about the origins of Obama's name rather than a deliberate smear. The distinction is moot however, since either scenario makes a mature discussion quite impossible.

Speaking as one whose surname is a French city and is the eldest son of a Cajun mother who traces her lineage back to Acadia: FUCK THOSE GUYS. They're just jealous because Cajuns remember our culture and history whereas they, by spreading lies, engaging in historical revisionism and then believing it themselves, have forgotten their own. What little they ever had.
I think I'll make jambalaya for dinner tonight.
