McCain Speech Today: We Have A "Genuine Prospect" Of A "Peaceful, Stable, Prosperous, Democratic" Iraq

John McCain is set to deliver a speech today to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, touting the perceived success of the surge — a sign that he is not even remotely trying to change the subject from Iraq.

McCain will say that America now has "the genuine prospect of success," defined thusly: "Success in Iraq is the establishment of a generally peaceful, stable, prosperous, democratic state that poses no threat to its neighbors and contributes to the defeat of terrorists."

How is Iraq a 'success' when the original advisors of the Iraq Study Group says:

A new assessment of U.S. policy in Iraq by the same experts who advised the original Iraq Study Group concludes that political progress is "so slow, halting and superficial" and political fragmentation "so pronounced" that the United States is no closer to being able to leave Iraq than it was a year ago.

The experts were reassembled by the U.S. Institute of Peace, which convened the congressionally mandated Iraq Study Group, a high-level panel that assessed U.S. policy in Iraq and offered recommendations in 2006. The new report predicts that lasting political development could take five to 10 years of "full, unconditional commitment" to Iraq, but also cautions that future progress may not be worth the "massive" human and financial costs to the United States.

He's not just remotely changing the subject, he's not remotely connected with reality.

"Success in Iraq is the establishment of a generally peaceful, stable, prosperous, democratic state that poses no threat to its neighbors and contributes to the defeat of terrorists."

Well he did leave out the part about posing no threat to the United States. Oh well, if you've invaded, occupied and destroyed a country, arrested their people without charges, imprisoned them without trial and illegally tortured them without even convicting them of anything you can't expect them to forgive and forget. I'm sure the Iraqis agree with everything in his statement though they define "terrorists" a little differently.

Let's hope McCain remains delusional.

"Success in Iraq is the establishment of a generally peaceful, stable, prosperous, democratic state that poses no threat to its neighbors and contributes to the defeat of terrorists."

Yup, the reasoning behind his 100 year plan for his 100 Year War.

Geeez! that must be some rare stuff that the Repukes are sniffing. So interesting that Repuke patriots think that America needs to disembowel itself economically and psychologically to bring to Iraq what they would deny to Americans.
