McCain Releases Tax Returns And Other Updates On The Forgotten Presidential Candidate

You may have forgotten that there's this other guy out there who's also running for President, and he happens to be the GOP nominee.

It's easy to lose sight of John McCain amid the constant crush of news about the Dem primary, but even as the Dems continue to bludgeon each other, McCain is quietly building up his campaign apparatus -- something we hope to be tracking here a bit more closely in the weeks ahead.

At any rate, there's a bit of McCain news today that you shouldn't miss:

* McCain released his tax returns, reporting an income of nearly $260,000 (not including that of his far richer wife). Hey, maybe that's a good "gotcha" question for George Stephanopoulos to ask McCain on Sunday -- why won't you release your heiress wife's tax returns?

* McCain continued building up his campaign today, adding a new pollster and a new campaign official to oversee the key battleground states of Pennsylvania and Ohio.

* Yet another national poll finds McCain closing the gap with the Dems.

I love the way McCain closes gaps. Very Mavericky. I have a feeling that his blowout loss in November will also be quite Mavericky.

I would be surprised if he wasn't closing the gap right now, but that doesn't mean much for November.

If Hillary-Joe would just go away, we could concentrate on one Republican instead of fighting two or three if you count Bill.

Do you guys get invited to the McCain barbecues like the mainstream press?

He collects Social Security and his wife will not release her records like Kerry's wife.

good thing you're not a republican or you'd be defending st. john and attacking democrats. oh wait, you are.

The tax returns are a joke!!! They include no infomation about his wife's fortune. The McCains file separately, apparently to avoid reporters and the public finding out his true wealth and the interests of his wife. Obamaites, Clintonista, Republicans -- we all should demand transparencyand point out the hypocrisy of the so called Straight Talk Express. What a fraud the man is.

Mavericks file separately. Quit yur complaining.

And I'm sorry to tell you, but there's going to be more wars. Oh, and the jobs aren't coming back.

Straight Talk. Maverick. Mavericky Straight Talk.

Hillary still undecided on if she will also address the GOP convention, but her surrogates have been telling the RNC that she has much more experience than Joe Lieberman when it comes to sliming the Democratic Nominee.

The are telling the RNC, that Hillary can do a better Zell Miller impression.

Yet one more reason why Hillary should get the fuck out of the way of the Democratic Party NOW and let Obama run directly against McCain without her distractions. Then Obama can challenge McCain's campaign on a daily basis and have it be a top news story - not low down the list after dealing with Hillary's mudslinging.

But that would mean putting the party and the country ahead of her/their egos and ambitions.

Never mind.

how much do you think Cindy McCain is worth...she runs a beer company? heww, never mind that I asked.

Owning a beer distributorship is literally like printing money. Economy is bad - you make money, economy is good - you make more money.
McMaverick chose the right lady for his 2nd wife.

Expect a love-fest with Steph.

Don't expect any questions about tax returns. Just soft balls like, "Are you too old?"
"No George, I'm fit as a fiddle."
"OK. Very good. Good luck senator."

Teresa Heinz Kerry was bullied by the press into releasing a portion of her 2003 tax return. Think the press will put any pressure at all on Cindy McCain? After all, as CBS noted in 2004:

>

Isn't John McSame just as "kept" by Cindy and her 8 houses?

The 2004 quote left out of my post above is:

One Republican lawyer says Heinz's returns would be a "treasure trove of opposition research." One thing the returns would show, this lawyer says, is the extent to which Kerry is a "kept man."
