Lieberman: I Could Keynote The GOP Convention
Get ready for Zell Miller, Part II. Joe Lieberman says that he is prepared to speak at the Republican National Convention this year, perhaps even give the keynote, in order to help John McCain appeal to independent voters.
"If Sen. McCain, who I support so strongly, asked me to do it, if he thinks it will help him, I will," Lieberman told The Hill.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that Lieberman would challenge Chris Matthews to a fight afterwards.

Not in the next congress. Reid confirmed that Lieberman will keep his leadership positions. That would be the first opportunity to exclude him from the majority, no changes can be made this session.
It's like the Democrats are abused spouses.

I believe Reid is just stringing Lieberman along. They don't want him to go full-on GOP now.
But if Dems get a significant margin in the Senate, Lieberman will be kicked to the curb - too many loyal Dems to reward to keep a traitor in a powerful position.

Is there any doubt now that the Democratic goal in 2008 should be not a veto-proof majority, but a Lieberman-proof majority? A couple more seats, and we can kick this clown out of the caucus and let him join his buddies on the other side of the aisle. I bet Connecticut voters are having a serious case of buyer's remorse right now.

That's too bad for them. They're the ones who voted for a WATB who was so desperate to cling to his little seat that he switched from Democrat to Ind. before the Democratic primary. That's low and nowhere in the neighborhood of honorable. They knew they were voting for a cheater. They got exactly the representative they deserve.

Republicans and DINOS voted for Lieberman
April 16, 2008 9:42 AM | Reply | Permalink
This is true and I had that in my original post, but took it out because it is common knowledge and is completely besides the point.
Those voters wanted Lieberman (I-Conn.). They wanted someone who refused to play fair. They wanted a sniveling crybaby who goes back on his word and they got him. So, it's hard for me to feel bad for them. They can take Joe with his Zellmemtum, it's up to the Democrats in the Senate to show some backbone and strip this tool of seniority.
It's utter bullshit that they let him keep his seats under the guise that he give the Democrats a majority in the Senate, when he votes with the GOP a majority of the time on major issues.

70% of CT's Republicans voted for Lieberman. 54% of Independents. He got only 33% of the Democratic vote.

Here here! We only need to pick up one seat to give BubsyBubsyBubsy the boot, correct? Then Joey can make his status as the GOP's bitch official and dismiss with the "Independent Democrat" nonsense. It'll be funny to watch how quickly he's ignored by the Democrats AND Republicans once his special majority-making status is gone.

THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS!! FOR MCCAIN!!!
Seriously, this would be AWESOME.
Dems HATE Lieberman, Independents would see he's not independent at all, and Republicans HATE Lieberman.
In fact, this will be McCain's biggest problem in the General:
He doesn't appeal to "liberals." He doesn't appeal to "conservatives."
He only appeals to "indepedendents", and once Obama is done with him, they'll realize he's not independent at all...

My question is a serious one.
What does it mean to the Democrats between now and November if they were to essentially kick him out of caucusing with them? I understand that control of the Senate would fall to the Republicans, but what does that mean on a practical level between now and November? Would this be harmful, or because this is a general election year, is the damage minimal?
Or is is better to wait until November when the Dems pick up a number of seats and can just toss him aside then?
Anyone have any thoughts?

It means Harry Reid becomes the Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell becomes the Senate Majority Leader, that no bill from the House gets to the Senate floor, and that Democrats get stamped with the "Obstructor" label as they use the filibuster to stop the more egregious "national security" nonsense (to the the extent that Harry can muster enough of the fearful DINO cringers to get forty votes once they're in the minority) that McConnell will be trying to get to the floor.
We just have to grit out teeth and bear his increasingly provocative behavior and look forward to the day, coming very soon now, when . . ., well, I have this whole elaborate fantasy about it:
January 3, 2009. HOly Joe breezes in to the Democratic Cloak Room for the first Democratic caucus of the 111th Congress, ready to gladhand the old pros and congratulate the the new freshmen, smiling his greasy smile and greeting people with that unctious voice like the guy who played the dad in "ALF." He suddenly stops as he senses a certain coldness from the assembled senators. He becomes uneasy as several of the freshmen close in behind him to block his retreat. Then the senators close in on him, pick him and, as a body, carry him out through the Rotunda to the front door of the Capitol where then heave his sorry ass down the marble stairs.

You really need to get over the Fla2000 thing. All of the media recounts (you know, the ones that actually counted all of the ballots Gore wanted to) showed Bush as the winner. Well, let's not forget Obama campaigned for this jerk. I knew at the time -- like many here -- that Lieberman would us Dems under the bus because of the results of the primary.
Honestly, I'd rather have a 50/50 split, with the thugs in charge of the Senate than have Lieberman in a chairmanship. But in fairness, if I were a Senator, I'd want control of the body....

Actually it would help if Mr. Obama made up his mind and let us know. I certainly don't think he's a Mulim. I do however have a few concerns with the teachings at the church he did attend. I also have concerns about his view of the 2nd Ammendment and his opposition to parental notification for minors seeking an abortion (but since his opinions on those keep "evolving" I may just end up concerned about his honesty).

Lieberman is beneath contempt. (For those that read my posts about Obama, he's just contemptible). Every time I see him I just want to puke. For what respect I have for McCain, I am tormented whenever I see him with Lieberman. My worst nightmare would be for Obama to secure Democratic nomination and for McCain to pick Lieberman as his running mate.
Personally, the Republicans would do well with Huckabee and Romney as their keynote speakers. McCain does not really need to pander to the now-old Republican party.

A committee ouster now? Don't think so.
If Reid announced such an ouster now then the Lie would just make a grandstand event of getting up and walking to the other side of the aisle while the GOP, as usual, exploited the resulting uproar to the max. Crossing over would be an act of political suicide, of course, but that is the destiny of the Lie no matter what... and he knows it.
And while Reid has screwed up massively on all too many issues... have you thought about exactly how much more damage the GOP could do to our country using a Senate majority as they face their inevitable final swirl down the toilet?
No... for better or worse Reid will keep up the charade for the sake of the Lie's ego... for now.
