Liberal Talker Ed Schultz To McCain: The "Warmonger" Label Sticks

In a sign that the rhetorical volleys have only just started for the general election campaign, liberal talk radio host Ed Schultz is not backing down from his words against John McCain at a North Dakota Democratic Party fundraiser.

McCain has been publicly calling upon Barack Obama, who was present at the party dinner, to condemn Schultz for calling McCain a "warmonger." "I'm sorry, John, the label sticks," Schultz said on CNN this morning. "John McCain is a warmonger."

Keep going, Ed! Finally somebody is trying to egg McCain on. This is a good test to see if McCain can hold his temper back. If he can't, then I am greatly anticipating these headlines:

Schultz Calls McCain “Warmonger”: McCain Declares War on Schultz

Or maybe:

Schultz Calls McCain “Warmonger”: McCain Punches Schultz in Face

Good on Ed for not backing down. Sometimes it's good to call a spade a spade.

:)

Why should he take it back? It's the truth and what does Obama have to do with it that McCain wants him to repudiate what Ed said? Too funny.

Truth hurts, I guess, John.

Not sure we need a new round of rejections and denunciations. I am so sick of this "gotcha" bullshit. It is kind of refreshing to hear someone stick by what they said, even if it is a bit over the top. Schulz is a talk radio host, after all. Plus, this was a Party fundraiser, not an Obama event...It's not as if he called McCain a hack or emphasized his Mulsim-sounding middle name!

While "warmonger" may be a bit inflammatory, there is no doubt that McCain has been Bush's #1 pitchman in Congress on the necessity of America's continued involvement there, and has supported the escalation of hostilities with Iran....So, as Schulz is saying, "the label sticks". If Obama wants to make a statement about the importance of remaining civil in this campaign, fine, but if he does, you can bet he will include reference to the fact that he wants to end the War in Iraq, whereas John McCain sees no end in sight.

Go Ed....tell that LOSER and warmonger ancient dinosaur the truth..Mc Bush IS A WARMONGER

I really hope Obama doesn't fall for this. It's already bad enough we're doing the denounce dance with the Clintons, I'm gonna go crazy if this continues forever. Let it ride, the dude's pro-war. Hes from a military family. He hearts Bush. The surge gives him a boner. What's the problem?

On another note, I hope McCain picks Condi. I think the Republicans will think it's sneaky, but that it will backfire pretty handsomely into a Bush third term campaign, and when the racial stuff comes into play, Condi will be forced to defend the offenders, and that would be something to see.

How is a liberal radio host calling McCain a "warmonger" any different from a conservative host calling Obama an "appeaser"? It seems that both moves are attempts to define the rhetorical terms in which the debate over foreign policy will be cast.

Moreover, it is more than a little hypocritical that McCain would call on Obama to denounce this statement when, if you listen to Hewitt, Hannity, Ingraham, Medved, Limbaugh, et al--they all regularly cast genuine foreign policy disagreements as a strategy of "appeasement" or, what is worse, "anti-patriotism".

There is most definitely going to be two distinct campaigns this election. The one between the Obama camp and the McCain camp, and the one between the many Obama supporters and those of McCain's.

The first one will be defined by issues as they relate to the differing ideologies of the two parties, and I have no doubt is one the Obama will win handily. The second will be a very bitter and personal battle between surrogates. To be honest, I don't feel comfortable with our throwing the first personal jabs in this battle, as it will eventually get very very ugly on both sides.

Personally, I'd much rather to be able to look back and say, "Well, at least they started it."

Go Ed! Don't back down.

Headline:
Schultz Calls Warmonger McCain by His Name.

Too bad Obama tossed him under the bus like Grandma and caved to McCain's demand to repudiate immediately.

Obama did so but this shows how weak and there is no fight in Obama.

Run him in the general, he will not fight back, he will cave, he will lose.

Need a fighter and Obama is not.

As a regular Ed listener, I wanted to make a couple of clarifications.

He's not a 'liberal' he would be better described as a mainstream Democrat. He's very pro-union, but also pro gun rights.

Also, some reports in the right-wing media (FAUXnews, UPI) have called him an Obama supporter and that he was speaking at an Obama event. He was speaking a Democratic Party event that Obama was also addressing and as far as I know he hasn't endorsed Obama, though he doesn't think Hillary has a chance to win at this point - I just call that being realistic.

That being said, I'm surprised CNN has picked up this story, as it was basically a nothing story that the right-wing media was trying to spin into something by. CNN should have let the story die.

I agree Ed is not a typical liberal. He's more of a Midwestern populist more comfortable talking the talk with the farmer or truck driver or small town businessman than with suburban or urban liberals, but I believe he has endorsed Obama. Obama is quite popular out here in the northern midwest which doesn't seem to be very receptive to Hillary's campaign. Possibly we're less rustbell working class and more small town anti-war.

This critic appreciates the effort, but with the recently resolved Writers Strike now resolved, will the TPM audience find enough meat in this latest installment to quench their voracious appetite?

Ed Schultz is a hick homophobe. And his attacks against Hillary were often disgusting. That Obama used such a man does not reflect well on Obama.

Speaking of homophobia, Obama has refused any interviews with gay papers, while Hillary has granted interviews. She is calling for gay rights. Obama is mum. Gays have not forgotten Donny McClurkin.

user-pic

Obama didn't "use" him. THe democratic party of North Dakota did. Obama just happened to be in the building.

Have gays forgotton DOMA, DADT, Bill telling John Kerry to throw us under the bus in 04 and embrace a federal marriage amendment? The Clintons records on gay rights is horrendous. They have a record of using us when they need our support and then throwing us under the bus when it would be better for them politically.

Obama talks about us EVERYWHERE he goes, not just in front of gay crowds, or to gay newspapers who happend to give Hillary Clinton money...

user-pic

And as for Obama's "refusal" to talk to gay media, here's an interview from The Advocate. But maybe, like all those states Obama won, The Advocate "doesn't count"...

That is a blatant lie by you Otto. Ed Schultz has had openly gay guests on his radio program many times. He had the gay man who outed Larry Craig, I believe the fellows name is Mike Rodgers, long before Craig got busted in the airport men's room. You are a right wing troll, and you have already revealed that you get your talking points off of Right Wing Radio. Go back to kissing the Arse of The Big Fat Pillbilly, you lying Ditto Head Scum.

Time for a shameless plug!

I wrote about this very subject here. John McCain is, by definition a warmonger.

I'm very glad he's not backing down. We need to get this out so people will start thinking about it: yes, John McCain is a warmonger.

McCain's whole campaign is based on keeping the Iraq War going, and how proud he still is for having rained death and destruction down on the people of Vietnam, where over 2 million people were killed, even though Vietnam had never done anything wrong to America.

If the shoe fits.... John McCain fits the profile of A Warmonger.

Hillary Rambo Clinton has endorsed Warmonger McCain for Commander in Chief, ahead of Senator Obama.

Hillary is the New Lieberman.
