Hillary Hits Airwaves In Indiana: "With Gas This Expensive, Talk Is Cheap"

Hillary goes up in Indiana with a gas prices spot, in keeping with her campaign's awareness that she's been outworking Obama among big-state blue-collar and lower-middle-class voters worried about the economy.

No mention at all of Obama, though there is this one line at the end: "With gas this expensive, talk is cheap."

The Hillary campaign has the same ad on tap for North Carolina.

In related news, Bill told Monica, "talk is cheap, let me stick this Cuban in you."

You forgot to mention that "HRC has gone negative"

LOL

Team Clinton, real creative bunch with good accountants!

Great ad.

It actually is a pretty good ad. It wouldn't make me vote for her but it might give me some confidence in her if I did not already have an opinion of her.

It's a good ad, but Obama's from earlier today -- hitting the same issue with more substantive suggestions for policy improvements -- was better, IMHO. Also, the "talk is cheap" line will fall flat when his ad was up first (and presumably will air more often), and poses better suggestions than "investigate oil giants."

Also, where can I move that it only costs $50 to fill up a tank! Can I get a refund for the extra $30 I had to pay for my $82.10 fill-up this morning?!

It must be great to be a Clinton, where one can claim, after being paid FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS for saying a few words, that "talk is cheap"

More of the same lying trash talk from the Clintons, America's Trailer Trash Royal Couple!!!

You are a hate filled wanker aren't you?

Are you a Dem?

Have you been diagnosed by a professional?

He does need it.

I think he is a wingnut.

No, you dear. Are you stupid as well as ill?

And what's Hillary and McSame's big idea to assuage the skyrocketing cost of gasoline? Suspending the federal gas tax. I'm sure the American people can sleep better at night with the 18 cents per gallon that will save. So instead of it costing $56 for me to fill my tank, it will cost $53.

Talk may be cheap, Sen. Clinton, but your ideas are even cheaper.

That is mcwar's idea.

Did you even bother to watch the ad?

CBS News said this evening she's considering it. Do you believe the tripe you type here, or do you just play a jackass for fun?

Gotalife has said previously that Clinton supports the gas tax holiday and that he thinks it's a great idea. He let his true colors show on that one.

Isn't funny how she's also stealing ideas from McCain and economic ones at that?!

It is indeed a goofy idea. Yeah suspend the gas tax so demand will go up a bit more.

This proposal is pandering at its worst.

Come on.

No one has done more for the American consumer than Barack Obama.

A Village in Clintonia has lost it's Idiot.

Gotalife; they say that they want you to return home!!!

gas is likely never going to be as cheap as it is right now.

Obama voted for cheney's energy bill, Clinton voted no.

Talk is cheap, so is the kool aid.

Actions speak louder than kool aid.

It wasn't "Cheney's energy bill", stop blindly following Hillary's talking points.

Contrary to her lies, it RAISED taxes on oil companies.

It also provided huge subsidies for alternative energy.

Was it perfect? No. Did Obama write it? No. Did it raise taxes for oil companies and support alternative energy? Yes, which is why Obama supported it.

I think you know all about how cheap kool aid is, you purchase a great deal yourself.

Oh, and Hillary's little war in Iraq she supported is the #1 cause for gas prices skyrocketing.

BS, the oil companies wrote the bill.

Get real, Obama voted for it Clinton did not.

Spin that.

Obama talks openly about why he voted for it. It's in his book. It makes sense for everybody with a braincell left.

I don't drink the kool aid troll.

I look at their actions and votes.

user-pic

Yes, dog forbid you actually read something. Facts and reality are nasty, scary things. They might hurt your poor little brain! You stick with the random nonsense attacks. I'm sure if you just yell Wright a few times and jump up and down, you'll feel better. Feel free to throw a few Ayers in there, too, just for variety.

Obama (and most other democratic supporters of the energy bill) voted for it because of corn subsidied for Illinois farmers. Earmarks are not the only way to bring home the pork or benefit the special interests. It wasn't on principle - it was politically expedient. Love that ""new politics". I would hope for a president that considers a sound energy policy more important than regional interests.

What taxes were RAISED on the oil companies? Did those outweigh the enormous subsidies? Perhaps you should brush up on the Energy Policy Act of 2005 before you post such nonsense.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_Policy_Act_of_2005

He voted for it to bring home the subsidies to Illinois farmers. Now that he is running for president, don't you think his vote against a sound energy policy in favor of regional interests deserves scrutiny? I do.

Hillary now says that how some one votes is what
people should pay attention to, and not what they say.

That is what she said today. Thanks Hillary.

OK people, Hillary wants you to only pay attention to how she voted to allow Bush to Invade Iraq, and she tells you to not pay any attention to the Bullshit that she is now saying about what she will do with the Iraq War.

Hillary admits that her Vote to go to War is the only thing that matters!!!.

Yeah, give w and cheney a free pass on Iraq and blame her.

She is talking about him taking money from oil companies, lying about it and voting on cheney's energy bill, the oil companies wrote.

you know, when you stop making sense, they might stop paying you...

"With gas this expensive, I should be getting MORE bribe money from the oil companies"

Obama is.

Gotalife,

Please stop throwing your cats at Marge Simpson!

Talk might be cheap. Too bad ads expensive...

You're asking WAY too much.

user-pic

But don't you all feel sad for Hillary. HRC's hubby's connections with the Caryle Group are helping to defray her personal exposure to the high price of fuel . . . Wait she forgot to inform the poor working folk about that. What a shame . . .

Quick quiz: Who is looking more like the third installment of Bush43 everyday . . . Senator Clinton or Senator McCain?

Why choose?

McCain-Clinton '08
Insuring the future of fascist plutocracy in America for the nexy sixteen years . . .

Look folks, Obama's talent is grassroot fundraising not politics.

You did not hear his interview today then. His "problem" is that he is SO intelligent his mind is working faster than he can even explain to some double-digit IQ's posting here. He is too bright for gotalife and Matthew.

Her pantsuits look cheap.

I have mixed feelings about the pantsuits. My mom hated to shop so until I went out and bought my own jeans in high school I wore not just pantsuits, but bright blocky polyester pantsuits. So I try not to notice Hillary's pantsuits because I bear the emotional scars of of pantsuits past.

user-pic

Hmmm. My mom loved to shop, and I still had to wear those polyester pantsuits.

The '70s were a scary time in so many ways.

user-pic

Pantsuits look awful on someone such as Hillary who spends tens of thousands of dollars at Dunkin' Donuts and who obviously doesn't do pilates or jazzercize.

Her talk is as cheap as his. Where's the difference? She offers no more detail than he does. No, wait--if you take out the earplugs and listen, even while stammering through capital gains answers in last week's "debate" Obama gave as good as she did, just not as smoothly.

What the hell is she doing but talking? It's just a tagline, and a cheap one at that.

Our gas is $3.98. On a local AM station in San Francisco they tell you where to find the cheapest prices. Today one station was selling regular at $3.86. That's the lowest you'll see. Many stations are above $4.00. We're expecting at least $4.25 by summer.

user-pic

Global crude oil production is less than it was in the year 2004. So it's no wonder why the prices are so high. It's too bad Hillary doesn't have a clue, but does always have cheap words to offer. Her whole quote, which I always keep handy is, "Some may say words are change. But you and I know words are cheap."

At least, he called KO and Clyburn's race card bs today.

I give him credit for not bashing the President like those two.

Rush calling for riots and KO with his bs.

Two peas in a pod.

Bashing the President?

Uh-oh. You're true colors are showing.

Sad.

President Clinton .

It is insane public policy to suspend gas tax. Suspend the income tax for low income people, but leave the gas tax alone. So Hilary has taken another page of the McCain play book. She is a Republican and it is time to be rid of her.

user-pic

The best part of Clinton's $10M dollar fundraising day after her single digit win in Rick Santorum's home state is that her campaign was $5M and change further in debt than they were telling people . . . SO:

While the Clintons are generating personal wealth from the Iraq inflated gas prices . . . the poor and statistically less educated folk are bearing the brunt of her inability to figure figures . . . Whether they be cash, gas OR delagate math.

In Senator Clinton's case, talk is expensive . . . very expensive.

Hey! She's getting MORE farging numbers wrong! No wonder she's following Grandpa McCain's lead on economic issues.

The only thing that could make this ad any better would be for the blood of the 4,000+ soldiers who've died because of The Monster's idiocy to stream down the screen.

Great stuff, Hitlery. You go girl!

Here's an idea for a Hillary ad...

She floats down in Iran wearing a Mary Poppins outfit with children's eyeballs exploding and their flesh liquifying beneath the heat of her new "Obliteration Umbrella."

The Monster walks toward the camera, kicking charred bones out of her way as she goes, and cackles, "Kick their ass... STEAL THEIR GAS!"

user-pic

It's a decent ad. But Obama's is at least as good, if not better, and his will run more often. Because his campaign isn't drowning in debt.

Here's an idea for a Hillary ad...

Bill and Monica go into a room.

Only Bill emerges.

Greg
I feel sorry for you brother. This has GOT to be the shittiest writing gig for your talent level on the internet that includes a "comments" section.

Free yourself from the rusty shackles and the cumbersome bridles of TPM! In the stable since March 6th, 2008. For what!?!

Straight from the Horse's Mouth, Greg!

Run Greg! Run FREE!!

Yeee--ee--aa-chh-hh!!!

Here's an idea for a Hillary ad...

Hillary and Chelsea are running around a Bosnian air strip, dodging sniper fire.

The camera cuts to a shot of Bill in a tree with a Red Ryder BB gun.

Indiana I believe is much like pennsylvania & indiana..... Hillary will win that state too, but this time its going to be close....less blue-collar workers....SurveyUSA & ARG have her winning.

Obama had his chance in ohio & pennsylvania, he failed and he will fail in indiana too....

GO HILLARY!!!!!!!!

"Obama had his chance in ohio & pennsylvania, he failed and he will fail in indiana too....

Yeah, Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, Missouri and the entire African American vote won't mean anything in the next election because The Monster's going to win Indy.

You're late for your Mensa meeting, Corky...

Sorry, tags not working. That post wouldn't be the same without this for Greg:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/montserrat0/210799696/

Mark, instead of posting this pap, why don't you just roll over and whisper it in the Gregger's ear?

user-pic

Hillary will solve the high cost of energy the same way McSame would:

Bomb, bomb, bomb, Bomb Iran.

How's that working for us, by the way? Gotalife?
~

Well, Iamanutjob wants to talk now.

I would say, it worked.

Don't mess with her, she will bomb you.

Strong on national security.

"Don't mess with her, she will bomb you."

YEEEEEEEHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Okay, here's an idea for a Hillary ad...

Hillary and 4,000 U.S. servicemen go into a room.

Only Hillary comes out.

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/04/25/mccain-bush-better-off/

McCAIN IS OFF HIS ROCKER. HE DEFINITELY HAS DEMENTIA. CHECK THIS OUT.

You accept the assumption that he was on a rocker?

Really people, 4,000 dead soldiers is a small price to pay for Bill to return to his trophy room.

It's funny how everyone says this race is over and Clinton supporters still don't get it. I understand the elderly people who aren't online can be fooled by Hillary. But really, how could someone be online and be that uninformed? The election is a done deal, and everybody knows it but these silly Clinton supporters who think their emotions are all that matter. I imagine them sucking their thumb, rocking back and forth saying "It's not true, It's just not true. Mommy...I mean...Hillary tell me it's not true!"

I agree Debra, then you have Eleanor Cliff say HRC might pull it off. If the media keep repeating it over and over, maybe it will come true, follow the yellow-brick road. Basically, I think there are just some really not too bright people posting. If the tables were turned, I would admit Obama was out.

Before you king Obama, I would wait and let it play out.

2025 delegates are needed and they both need supers to win.

Too close for anybody to drop out so lets let the people and their votes count.

I don't think it is making him king.........I think it is acknowledging that he has it, short of a total "the fix is in" SD debacle.

user-pic

I read that Clift article.

Well - if she pulls it off because the media wants her to, and the Republicans want her to, and the special interests want her to, she cannot win the presidency. The next president will be John McCain.

That's just a given.

She will not see voter turnout at anything like record numbers. In fact, I suspect turnout will suck.

So if this happens - great - drag the country back to the 20th century, see if I care.

I'll just forget the whole thing and enjoy what I got while I can.

Totally true.

I would have figured it out by the end of February if it was reverse and expected Obama to suspend his campaign. And yes I would have been disappointed, but accepting disappointment = being an adult.

Too close???? Considering Hillary picked up 9 delegates out of Pennsylvania, and Obama has picked up 3 superdelegates since then, how do you see her catching up? It's not close at all. That's just the point. Do you see a lot of superdelegates running her way? How many has she picked up since Super Tuesday? The superdelegates are not going to come out and save her.

http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Joint_Chiefs_chair_US_prepping_military_0425.html

So how will McCain try to win via Karl's help, ramp it up.

good stuff

okay lets be serious, the reason our oil/gasoline is so damn high is because of this damn war.

The unstableness that we created in teh middle east in the last 6 years have made OPEC prices skyrocket.

and our continued effort to turn the Middle East into a democracy we now our resorting to alternate fuel methods using our crops for fuel and are now driving up the prices of our food in stores, 3rd world countries that we export goods to our now facing starvation due to the high prices set on the tarrifs.

Oh Noooo!!......the birth place of Democracy, the origin of our founding doucments -- Philadelphia PA, gets to vote?? Oh dear, where are my pearls.

STOP THIS WOMAN!!

Gracious sakes, a gas tax holiday is a horrible idea. Gas is becoming so expensive because demand is growing faster than supply. Price increases are the natural and healthy way that the market self-corrects. If you do an end run around the price increases you will perversely drive up demand even further, so that the root cause of the price hikes will only grow worse and come back to bite you hard in the @$$. In other words, this strikes me as a horrible ad. I hope that folks do not reward this sort of pandering, as it is in no one's long-term best interests.

no, if you look at the OPEC list of the prices of oil per barrel
http://www.ioga.com/Special/crudeoil_Hist.htm

you will see that the price trippled in the last 3 years compared to price it was back in 2002. There wasn't no gross exponential explosion in the population in the last 3 years. What there is, is an on going war in the middle east that our country has perpetuated that's keeping those barrels so high.

Whether or not there has been an explosion in population in the last few years, there has been an rapid growth in car ownership and in petroleum demand by Chinese factories. I am not saying that the war has nothing to do with the price increases (the two causes, after all, are not mutually exclusive), but the economists whom I have read all suggest that supply/demand is the biggest reason for the price hikes and the next largest reason - speculators bidding up the price - is a function of the supply/demand factor.

"Addressing concerns about the US military's capability of dealing with yet another conflict at a time when forces are purportedly stretched thin, Mullen said war with Iran "would be 'extremely stressing' but not impossible for U.S. forces."

Yeah after they reinstate the draft.

Yeah with 16 years of experience ...Still no solution..Good one Hillary...Ask a question and lock your self in.
Why not ask your pals Bush and the Gang...What they promised...We are Oil Men.. we know how to solve it...When Bill's VP and Kerry brought it up where were you....Noooooo The Bushes had the in with the Saudi's (Oh I forgot he got paid to speak for them)...You had your chance for the last 16 years...and now you have a solurion?
Please sit down.

Enough of your embellishments(sic) (and that is being kind)!

Talk is as cheap as Hillary's claim of electabilty...TIME TO FACE FACTS !!!! The media has diagnosed every demo there is....the old...the young...the rich....the poor...the educated....the uneducated....the bowlers, gun toters and beer drinkers.....And somehow ALWAYS finds a way to give the advantage to Clinton. But just today, the media is finally starting to raise the most incredible point in the whole race. HILLARY HAS LOST THE SUPPORT OF AN ENTIRE RACE OF PEOPLE !!!!!!!! Do you know how incredibly sad this fact is ? Hillary Clinton (who's husband was so loved as to have been called The First Black President) has alienated the black people of America to such a degree that there is no way blacks will support her EVER. This has nothing to do with Obama !!!! Keep in mind folks....Hillary started this campaign with close to 82% of the black support. But as blacks learned more about her (Goldwater Girl....Against Civil Rights Act of '64...etc.) combined with her LBJ statements and Bill's minimizing of Obama (fairy tale...Jesse won S.Carolina too...etc) blacks were first of all shocked...and then incredibly offended by these realities to a degree that can never be recovered. WE FEEL DECEIVED !!!! We hope that our friends of all races understand how we as blacks feel. This is the main story that needs to get out to the superdelegates. Now, people across America are contacting the DNC to let them (and superdelegates) know that Hillary ABSOLUTELY KILLED HER ELECTABILTY. You can too...Call the DNC 202-863-8000 TODAY. Let them know that there's no way Hillary can be electable since she has sadly alienated andd lost the support of an entire race of Americans. The truth is the truth !

Greg Jones
Blacks4Barack.org
(A Multi-Racial Organization...Dedicated To Truth)

Tell me Greg.

Who attended all AA events?

It was Clinton working for all votes and Obama could not be bothered.

Stop playing the race card.

This crap comes up every time Wright hits the news.

Obama is destroying the party with this crap and should drop out.

Mr. Jones,

With all due respect you do not speak for all Blacks or even "92%". I have heard and read the most deplorable things people have said about Hillary. You and your kind take anything the Clinton's say and make it a race issue that's your game and you have in fact played it well. KUDOS to you!!! The fairy tale comment about Obaaama being against the war is in fact very true.

Obaaama has made the "claim" he was against the war but never had an opportunity to vote. So how does one back up that claim...they vote to continue funding it... Seriously?

The fairy tale reference was in regards to Obama's stance on the war his claim is that he has always been against this war. The truth is he doesn't know and has admitted that he has no idea if we would have voted for the war. HE can say anything and everything after the fact but no one will ever know how he would have voted.

I can't even believe you are seriously trying to say the media is working for Hillary's advantage! If this is true then for the love of God please tell me which station because I can not watch another second of MSNBC with Keith Obamaerman...oh I mean Olberman.

Anyway my real point is don't generalize the black population and make the assumption that they are all voting for Obama. "Lost an entire race of Americans"...hilarious. Oh and by the way when you say blacks who do you include...
African Americans
Africans
Afro Caribbean

Yes these people can all be considered "black" but their politics are very different. The issues they face vary! Politics is not about race and you can not make broad statements about an "ENTIRE RACE OF PEOPLE"!!

I respect your right to vote for Obama but in return respect that there are people that may look like you who don't feel the same!

Quick shout out to my little sister Dijamo...thanks for introducing me to TPM!!!

user-pic

re the gas tax - she's not saying to suspend it, that's what McCain says, she is saying to have it be paid by the gas companies.

Rasmussen today has a poll showing that the average voter trusts McCain over either Democrat when it comes to handling the economy. What that means is that the average American doesn't want to pay higher taxes or higher capital gains tax, and they feel that voting Democratic will mean they will pay higher taxes. Never mind that Republican mismanagement leads to economic meltdowns that cost Americans more money in the end, and Republican arrogance in foreign affairs costs American lives and health, etc, etc... the fact is that if you don't pander you lose.

The average American doesn't want to pay a higher capital gains tax??? You mean all those "middle-class families" making $200,000 a year? Who are you, Charlie Gibson?

Anyway, I have no doubt that the latest poll says that just as I have no doubt that that will change once Obama has a chance to set his sights on McCain directly. McCain is a joke on the economy and Obama will make it known.

user-pic

Having oil companies pay for the gas tax is a WORSE idea than suspending it, which is a bad enough idea on its own!

"Using oil company windfalls" and having the oil companies pay the gas tax amounts to one thing: raising taxes on oil companies. In a market where the demand for gas is proving to be surpisingly inelastic, why would gas companies take that tax out of their profits when they can pass it on to the consumer? Additionally, having the gas company "pay the gas tax" does not change the fact that it is artificially lowering the price of gas, even though market conditions haven't changed to justify the lowering in price. Demand for gas will increase. Since the supply of gas will remain constant, prices will go up.

When the "gas tax holiday" is over, prices will be even higher than they were before, and higher than they would have been if the policy had never been implemented.

Bad bad policy. It is populist pandering pure and simple, but awful economics.

user-pic

Gas prices per gallon:

April 2008 = $3.40

June 2008 = $3.80

August 2008 = $4.20

September 2008 = $3.60

October 2008 = $3.00

November 2008 (thru election day) = $2.60

December 2008 = $4.40

Happens every time and we, or a good percentage of us, fall for it.

When gas was cheap Obama was in Chicago helping slumlords. So it stands to reason he was responsible for cheap gas! He also never realized he was a politician when he attended Rev. Wright's sermons and thus has been sainted and well, he does now admit that his handwriting was on the Illinois gun control survey..but everyone has a slip of hand... and oh...his association with the leader of the Weathermen in Chicago...well you can't choose your family but you can choose your friends or was that pastor? Yu can go back in time and pick apart Clinton but don't dare mention anything questionable about Obama's past. and the race card...wow... isn't it true that the black voting block is solidly for Obama..If you really think Obama is more electable than Clinton go fill up your pipe and have at it!!

They play the race card when Wright hits the news.

Hillery can not win--its over.

user-pic

Take a deep breath, rayboat.

You're listing to the starboard.

It must be all those right wing talking points you're spewing.
~

user-pic

I think the right wing talking points have gotten to us all. As I've said before, reading some of these posts that are filled with venom remind me of the radio talk shows during the 1990's.

If I'm listing to starboard then the SS Obama has sunk! Those so called right wing talking points have indeed taken place. Hey who did you vote for in the '88 election primary?? I am so right wing and racist that I voted for Jesse Jackson. I still think he has his shit more together than Obama! Throw Obama a life jacket!

Just another reason to NOT vote for Hillary. Nearly everything here is *just* talk. I can almost hear her, when these "initiatives" fail, say things like "We are doing the best we can" and other 'it's not my fault' statements.

Hillary is correct, we don't just need talk --

We need straight talk.

And this commercial proves she isn't willing to give it on the energy situation.

There is a huge thread about this issue (focused on some Obama comments, but applies even more so for Hillary's here) at

http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/04/i-am-very-disappointed-in-obam.php

where many excellent points are being made on the commentary side.

user-pic

None of these policies will work, or will bring down the price of gas.

Investing in clean energy technology is great, but has little to do with the enormous amount of infrastructure and entrenched behavioral patterns that lead to a huge demand for gasoline, nor will it abate growing demand from the emerging BRIC economies. Not to mention that she talks about using the "windfalls" from oil compay profits to do this...how exactly?

As some have mentioned, suspending the gas tax is a bad idea. It will increase demand, and increased demand with a constant supply means that prices of gas will rise, so when the gas tax is re-instated the price of gas will actually be higher than it was. More importantly, the price increase can be tied directly to this policy initiative. So she wants a policy which will RAISE prices of gas in the future? Um...not good.

Investigating the oil compaines will lead nowhere, and she knows it. First of all, it may just be that the market for oil is creating that price, without any collusion from oil companies (if you're looking for collusion, look no further than the supply quotas of OPEC, and she can't do anything about that). Investigations are done by congress. Oil companies have bought and paid for enough congressional seats that nothing will come of this.

So, for such a "policy wog" it seems strange to me that she puts forward three BAD policies in one commercial.

Can someone clarify? If djamo says that subsidizing farmers for corn was part of that energy bill, well isn't that so we can have BIOFUEL? An alternative source? People, even Clinton supporters to percieve that she has attacked unfairly. Yes perhaps the fairy tale comment was spun, but I think that there were other things that the Clinton's have done that have been percieved as unfair in the African American community and even in PA (by working class whites who thought she unfairly attacked).

The American people are fair and good people. Yes they'll vote for someone like Clinton, but they know full-well her faults. I think going negative turns people off.

*do* percieve

Next time you fill up your tank ask yourself, how could Oilbama vote for Dick Cheney's Energy bill?Oilbama is directly to blame for the higher oil prices.

I prefer Hillary's endorsement of the George Bush Energy Plan... kill brown people till the price drops.

Ask Hilary, where do you fill your tank for only $50???

anywhere you are not driving a gas guzzling suv
