Fox News To Run DNC's Ad Attacking McCain
This is fun. A Democratic National Committee spokesperson confirms to me that the DNC, somewhat puckishly, asked Fox News if the network would run its ad attacking McCain over his 100-years Iraq talk -- and that Fox has agreed.
The reason this is amusing is that the Republican National Committee has been claiming that the ad is misleading and constitutes illegal coordination with the Dem campaigns, and has demanded that networks refrain from running it.
But the RNC's argument is apparently so specious that not even Fox accepted it.

Now this is funny.

RNC IS PUNKING FOX
It is only ploy to get them to see things their way for a change.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!
God I love my life sometimes.
The Republicans cannot catch a break. Poor poor things - they just had the whole enchilada and managed to fuck it all up so badly and piss off so many people that they are up against a force field in this election.
I love this.

A Clinton-run DNC would back down from the RNC bluster of lawsuits and threats.
Fire at will, Mr. Dean.

Huh. Maybe Fox does see the writing on the wall.
They want to remain relevant, obviously. The only way to do that during the next 8 years will be if they are less hostile to Democrats....
Nah. They aren't that smart. They just want the money from the DNC.

Very easy way of looking balanced, too. Takes much less effort than trying to convince Sean Hannity not to be a jackass.

Fox is changing in case a Dem wins for the ratings.
They are an alternative to the Obama hacks of CNN and MSNBC.
Smart move.

Did you just say CNN are "Obama hacks"?
You are lost.

DEMOCRATIC VOTERS MUST DO ALL WE CAN TO MARGINALIZE FOX. THEY ARE THE ENEMY. DO NOT WATCH THIS AD!

Fox's ratings are tanking.
They're not putting ideology before money. That's the thing with these right-wingers. They rarely do.

Joe Scarborough yesterday on "Road to the White House," after praising Obama's handling of Wright, questioned McCain's "100 year 'presence'" position and called this ad totally fair game.
He was in rare form.

My sense of Scarborough is that, after so shamelessly pitching for Bush all those years, that he's taken to being a general contrarian.
When Hillary was inevitable, he pitched for Obama, when Obama took the lead, he argued for Hillary...
Now that McCain is going untouched by the media, he'll start lobbing grenades that way, until things change and then he'll shift again.

All snark aside, I think what we're watching here is a shift in the power structure--not only at Fox, but within the Republican Party. "Real" Republicans are surveying the damage the Neocons have done to the party, and they're starting to push back toward core principles. The fact that neither Brit Hume nor Chris Wallace could come up with much negative to say about Obama on Sunday is a case in point. The fact is, many old-school Republicans agree with the ideas the Democrats are putting forth these days (fiscal responsibility and military non-interventionism, for example). And Obama is offering them a way to move back toward their core principles while not forcing them to accept humiliation in the process. Hillary promises to do battle with them. Obama clearly, clearly wants to work with them to find mutually agreeable solutions.

Good move on Fox's part. They take money from the DNC to run the ad, then their commentators tell the viewers how to feel about the ad. I doubt it will change the average fair-and-balanced mind.

Fox knows what's coming. They don't want to be *completely* frozen out for the next eight years.
