Corzine: If Hillary Doesn't Win Popular Vote, I Might Switch To Obama

During an interview on CNBC, New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine not only said it would be very tough to for Hillary Clinton to get super-delegate support if she loses the national popular vote — he himself is "reserving the right" to switch his own vote if she doesn't come out on top in that metric:

Corzine has been one of Hillary's biggest supporters, leading almost the whole party in his state to back her, so even this small bit of doubt from him could mean serious trouble ahead — though obviously, Corzine expressed his confidence she would win the popular vote, counting both Michigan and Florida.

Ouch. I imagine he'll be contacted by one of the Clinton thugs and he'll issue a clarifying statement soon.

Drip, drip, drip.

You know what would be news?

News would be when a Hillary superdelegate goes on the teevee and says, "Look, even if Hillary loses in PA, even if she trails in the popular vote count, even if she has 150 fewer pledged delegates, I'm still going to support her. Because the American people can go fuck themselves."

THAT would be news.

But this? This is just a smart politician being smart, knowing which way the wind is blowing, and making gestures to get behind the presumptive nominee.

Jack Murtha apparently agrees with him.

Judas! Flip-Flopper!

BTW, anyone at TPM called Carville of K Street for a quotable response yet?

If this were the Titanic, the band would be playing Nearer My God To Thee just about now.

James Carvillle will soon soon label Governor Corzine, as a Crypto Judas.

Corzine is objectively pro-Judas.

What the hell does "popular vote" have to do with it? Learn the rules of your own party, Corzine!

I think he knows the rules very well. Maybe you should brush up. Corzine has the right to throw his support for whichever candidate he chooses.

The popular vote is a way for him to show that he's voting with the will of the people.

Spin, spin. It's all spin. At least they're putting a definitive limit on things.

I'm ok with it as long as it puts an end to things before freaking August!

She isn't dead yet!

I say put a fork in her

Hmm...I thought all of her supporters have come to the conclusion by now that her path to the nomination is through the popular vote tally. I actually think this is more significant because it gets the idea of the popular vote out there as the true metric rather than pledged delegates. I don't think it says anything about her impending doom. She either wins the popular vote or Obama gets the nomination. I think she will win it.

Apparently Big Hill Dog raised $20MM last month. Not sure how much is for the primary or what her debt position is at month end (for those playing at home it was $13.7MM). A good haul by most standards. We'll have to see the details.

TPM, please post the story to the header above this one, about a new PA poll showing Clinton up by only 2.

Voters may not show up to vote if they think their candidate is a shoe-in. I wouldn't trust it, Obama camp must keep working it!

REGARDLESS OF WHAT POLLS SAY- GO OUT AND VOTE!!!
KEEP ON PUSHING!

"Corzine expressed his confidence she would win the popular vote, counting both Michigan and Florida."

As Carville would say, that dog don't hunt.

The majority of Supers are not going to count the beauty contests of FL and MI as any kind of deciding factor.

Wait, I just watched it.

The Headline should be: "Corzine: If Hillary doesn't win PA by a significant amount, it's over."

That's HUGE.

Correction: His exact words were "She needs a good.. big win... You gotta see a real cut into this popular vote."

And so there is only so far the goal posts can be moved. Everything has its natural limit, and Camp Hillary is approaching theirs. They all hold their breaths in vain.

Right, SCMadden has it down with the correction what he said, she needs a *huge* win. And he added chirpily, "I think she can do it!" As in, do it "by gum" or some blather.

He is really sticking the knife in. "Let's all get excited because to stay alive she needs a really gigantic, virtually impossible win, and I think she can get do it, yesiree!!"

"And if she can't, then my endorsement is out the window."

Corzine's so unpopular in New Jersey these days that I hope he sticks with Hillary.

Did anyone actually view this interview?
