Clinton Campaign May Soon Be Getting Call From Collections Agency
Here's a fun little flap out of California: It's already been reported that the Hillary campaign is leaving behind some unpaid bills, but now they may be soon getting a call from a collections agency.
It seems Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary at the University of California's Davis campus earlier this year -- and since then his campaign has only paid a bit more than half the $11,000 it owes the school for the event.
TPM Reader JL sends in this little article about the flap from The Reporter of Vacaville. The paper reports that the school has now laid down a deadline of May 10th to get its money -- and if it doesn't, university officials are threatning, they're sending the matter to collections.
As TPM's Eric Kleefeld puts it, "forget the polls -- the Clinton campaign is about to get screwed on its credit rating."

It's things like this and like not planning for a real campaign or not planning for long term spending and the infighting and the top-down, 10 state strategy that makes me want to ask Greg & Erik:
Do you guys still think Hillary Clinton will make better President thank Barack Obama?
Don't you both think how he runs his campaign is indicative of how he will run his administration and vice verse with regards to Clinton's mess of one?

I think it's one of the most important things people should consider. Managerial and organizational skills on display, as well as hiring choices, firing decisions, finanical management -- the whole ball of wax.

Yeah, but you're not taking into account that she needs more time to prepare in the mornings, so that leaves considerably less time for actually running a campaign, so she HAS to resort to lying and slimeing. There IS NO OTHER WAY! Don't blame her, it's not her fault. There wasn't supposed to be anybody else running by now.

"There wasn't supposed to be anybody else running by now."
Right, I forgot that "planning ability" should have been in that list.

It is no secret that I'm no fan of Hillary. But you folks who are her supporters need to express to her campaign the need to get their finances in order. First it was small businesses complaining about a couple of thousand dollars she owes them, now a college with an even larger outstanding debt. Either she has to get her bills in order, or explain to the American people what she has against small businesses and higher education.

Haha, ready to lead from when?
If there is one thing this campaign has showed it is that Hillary is one terrible manager when it comes to running an organization. She surrounds herself with incompetent people, and doesn't keep herself in the loop enough, as was evidenced by her surprise that they were broke a few months ago. If I were a candidate I would be wanting daily, or at least weekly updates on revenue and expenditures, as those are the life blood of a campaign. It was inexcusable for her to not know about the many problems in her own campaign.

Hmmm.
I wrote in another thread that Hillary wouldn't drop out even if she won PA by less than 10%.
I forgot to calculate in the Money.

Actually, money is the main thing that could keep her in.
It's very hard to raise money to pay off your debts when you're not in the running any more.

Oh, and this also shows yet again that she was lying when her campaign said a few weeks ago that they pay their bills on time.

Well, you'd think she'd use that $2.5 mil for debt.
But she needs air-time to keep her campaign on life-support.

The Clinton campaign is one big Ponzi scheme. They are raising money that is being spent on what they want to spend it on (new ads, new states) and leaving those who already did work for them holding the bag. And they will be left holding the bag because it is mathematically impossible for the campaign to win and thus be solvent, raise new money to pay the old creditors, etc.
Here is what a bankruptcy lawyer friend tells me:
Three creditors owed more than $5,000 each could collectively force the campaign into involuntary bankruptcy.
Any creditor, depending on the state could force the campaign into receivership until it acts responsibly.
Also, aren't the corporations that are doing unreimbursed work for the Clinton campaign making illegal corporate contributions?

Wait. I think I get it. Hillary believes so much that it is her divine right to be President, that she is forcing small businesses and this college to make campaign contributions. Sort of like that staffer who's credit card she charged. Everyone keep an eye out on your banking records. The Clinton campaign seems to feel that it's everyone's responsibility to pay for her full-out assault on the Democratic party and its principles.

Here's a fun little flap out of California
Hilarious, Greg. Nothing says "wacky hijinx" like stiffing a public university in a cash-strapped state. What's next, defrauding small business owners?
With her personal fortune and her alleged fundraising successes, I see no reason for letting these debts remain outstanding. One way or another, pay them, Hillary -- now. It's the right thing to do.

It can't be lost on her creditors that she's been spending a ton of money on ads in Pa. If she owed me a lot of money, this would cause extreme peevishness on my part.
This isn't news because it's bad for her, by the way. This really does have a very direct bearing on what happens next.
sorry Greg, didn't mean to bitch at ya. The numbers going up and down have made me dizzy, I think. :)

A Modest Proposal.
Senator Clinton may be using this ploy to find some very effective collection staff to enforce her mandatory health care payments. Hillary, the dead beat, will find out who can collect from those who may try to do as she does, instead of doing as she says.
April 10, 2008 1:17 PM | Reply | Permalink
Is that why she left nearly $300,000 in health insurance premiums for her staff unpaid? Certainly a great example for that "universal" health care she keeps talking about.

Yeah, I quit listening after about the first month for just that reason. I'd much rather blather on myself about stuff everyone already knows than listen to someone else do it between 86 ads an hour.
;)
Then Chuck D left and I never considered turning it on again.

I guess it's Obama 's fault she can't pay her bills. If only she had dropped out of the race when everyone was "suggesting" it. I bet that mean ol' Obama made her spend all that money she doesn't seem to have anymore. She could always take more money from the oil companies. I hear they're doing pretty well these days.
Stop the Bush/Clinton regime!
I don't think I can stand another term of either one of these two families in the White House!

When will someone (anyone, please) in the media pin them down on their amount of outstanding debts and cash on hand? Amt available for the primary vs. general?
It seems highly likely that H. is staying in at this point purely to raise enough $ to cover some or most of her bills. But unless someone asks the question, we won't know. And this whole mess will continue ad nauseam.

I know this collection story must burn the eye sockets of Hillary trolls. In the spirit of fair play, here's something for you guys to go to town on:
"[Obama] posed for report pictures with the staff when he apparently felt his phone start to vibrate in his pocket on his right thigh – against which one woman was closely pressed.
"Now that’s my phone buzzing there," he said, drawing a laugh. "I don’t want you to think I’m getting fresh or anything."

Polls can be wrong, but the money tells the story.
I'm sure she'll use this as another fundraising plea, but I wonder how much she can generate at this point?
Reminds me I should make another donation to Obama and help him get this thing over and done with.

WHO DO YOU WORK FOR? IF YOU WORK FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA AT DAVIS, OR MCCAIN OR OBAMA? WHY DON'T YOU JUST SEND HER CAMPAIGN A BILL INSTEAD OF MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT IT IN THE PAPERS????? THANKS
April 10, 2008 7:28 PM | Reply | Permalink
If you're concerned about it, why don't you ask the campaign to pay their bills? They're not answering their phones or emails about outstanding bills. People want to be paid for their services. It's been three months. She's running one heck of a campaign.
April 10, 2008 7:31 PM | Reply | Permalink
See, I think they already have sent a bill. and it hasn't been paid. And then they sent another one. And that hasn't been paid. So they're probably on third notice and getting threatening. And, see, the small businesses and colleges and public schools Hillary is stiffing actually need that money to function. So, you have to take steps.
