Still Nothing From Hillary On Spitzer

He's a key supporter, and as Senator of his home state, Hillary will be expected to weigh in on Eliot Spitzer's travails.

But as of now, there's nothing from either her Senate office or her campaign.

"Mrs. Clinton! Mrs. Clinton," cried NPR reporter Audie Cornish.

"Yes, Audie?" Sen. Clinton replied.

"Do you have any comment on Gov. Spitzer's alleged connection to a prostitution ring?"

"You want ME to comment on marital infidelity and how it affects politics? You're joking, right?"

My guess is they won't have a comment until after he resigns.

Well his endorsement is gone from her website.

Wow, I guess she is rejecting his support. I don't get what the big deal is. Is what Spitzer did any worse than what Bill did? At least he didn't lie about it.

But has she denounced it?

user-pic

Except what Spitzer did is illegal in the act itself, not just lying about it under oath afterwards.

DENOUNCE AND REJECT

Superdelegate and ho hopper Eliot Spitzer

If spitzer is on the ropes, and reports that his resignation is imminent (read: tonight), HRC has no reason to comment on the matter until he's out of office, making any comments along the lines of "denounce or reject" moot.

Moving on... nothing to see here. :)

Sorry, spitzy-boy. We had high hopes for you.

user-pic

Maybe she's having flashbacks?

It's a great day to be an Obaman.

user-pic

No it isn't.

This is a bad day for Democrats no matter who you support for President, since Spitzer's actions have given the state of NY, and Democratic elected officials a collective black-eye.

I am an Obama supporter and I see nothing at all good about this.

You're right, Lestatdelc. This is bad news for Democrats. The feds went after him. And got him.

Is this excellent news? And if so, for whom?

Hillary's "comeback" is DOA.

tweety reports hillary has commented -- sympathy for spitzer and his family, that's it.

MSNBC just read Hillary statement, which was nothing more than a "thoughts and prayers" statement.

From the desk of:

Mark Poison Penn.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton did not have Political Relations with that man, Mr. Spitzer.

If you feel that this is such an urgent matter that Senator Clinton should address it, please place a call to her at 3.00AM only.

Who are all these federal law enforcement officials who are blabbing to the media? Is there going to be an investigation of THAT?

Obviously this case is a big deal, and if you are in the FBI or a federal prosecutor, it's hugely important for you to keep your big yap shut while these cases are developing in order to have an effective case against the person.

Regardless, you can be sure that corks are popping all over Wall Street tonight...(Greg, might be some fun reporting, scouting out a few high-end NYC restaurants to see who's out and about soaking this news up.)

Typical. The 'bots aren't concerned as to what this might do to the party but are just hoping to stick a sharp stick in Hillary's eye. Lovely.

The party will be fine with Obama on the top of the ticket in 08.

I live in NY State. I'm very concerned about what this will do to our hopes of retaking the state Senate in November.

But I'm also curious about Clinton's response, how far she'll be willing to throw him under the bus (his endorsement has already been expunged from her website), and how many campaign talking points she'll be able to slip into her condolences to Spitzer and his family once she finished focus testing her response?

Mean? Maybe, but after her behaviour over the past couple weeks, I honestly think she's about to cash in some of her negative karma points that have been building up.

Typical Clintonian whiner. You said nothing about it either. All you did was whine about what other's were saying.

user-pic

Come on. You know she needs time to conducts some polls on this first. Wouldn't want to say the wrong thing.

This is going to be a bad week for the Clintons

user-pic

Jesus, you people at TPM really are out for Hillary's blood, aren't you? Could you be more transparent?

I can't begin to see why Hillary has to make a major pronouncement on this issue in the first few hours after it comes to the public eye.

My guess is she's expecting he will resign, and very soon. There's not exactly a pressing need for her to demand it unless he makes it clear he's not going to do so, is there?

Why can't you just wait that out?

You guys got a problem with premature defenestration, or something? Maybe you should consult your physician for something that will slow down your impulses so that things are allowed to take their proper time.

Nice of you to come to the defense of your little "Denounce and Reject Now" hypocritical Hillary.

On how this affects the math IF Spitzer resigns:
- Lt. Governor David Paterson becomes NY Governor
- Paterson is a Clinton supporter and campaigned for her in Iowa
- But he's already a superdelegate as an at-large member of the DNC
- IF he remains an at-large member of the DNC, then there would be a net loss of 1 superdelegate for Hillary and a reduction of total SDs to 794.
- I would imagine that he will be asked by Clinton campaign to step down from DNC and be replaced by another Clinton supporter so that there is no net loss.

More from: http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/03/ny-governor-eliot-spitzer-linked-to.html

Who becomes the new Lt. Governor?

user-pic

Lt. Gov's are not given convention seats because of their office.

user-pic

Lt. Gov. Paterson is a declared DNC superdelegate for Clinton. I assume Spitzer loses his Superdelegate status if he resigns, and Paterson takes his spot--query what happens to that DNC position? Does it disappear or can Paterson be replaced?

DENOUNCE OR REJECT??!

DENOUNCE!!

REJECT!!!!

OMFG YOU HAVE TO DO IT!!!!!

Re: Spitzer Sex Scandal:

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton wants the voters to know that she has the most experience to deal with such a unexpected emergency. Senator Clinton has past the threshold of being qualified to deal with Bimbo Eruptions, from day one. Experience counts. At 3.00am who do you want answering those phone calls from the Red Light Zone.

Hillary Clinton has 35 years of experience dealing with Bimbo Eruptions, and Senator Obama has never even made a speech about them.

Who do you want taking that 3.00AM Red Light call!

OLD FORGE, Pennsylvania (CNN) — Sen. Hillary Clinton said she had no comment on New York Governor Eliot Spitzer's possible involvement in a prostitution ring.

"I obviously am sending my best wishes and thoughts to the governor and to his family," she told reporters after visiting with reporters in a local pizza parlor.

When asked whether Gov. Spitzer could survive politically she said "let's wait and see what comes out of the next few days. Right now I don't have any comment. I think it's appropriate to wish his family well and see how things develop."

Of course this is bad for Hillary. Spitzer is the Governor of her (current) home state and a big cheerleader.

It reminds the world of Bill's past sex scandal. It reminds us that Hillary "could not breathe" (her words) when confronted with the facts about Bill and Monica. It reminds us of her dreadful non-answer to the question about Spitzer's abandoned immigrant drivers license policy - in a debate stage in Philadelphia no less.

If Spitzer resigns, his action will be compared to Bill's refusal to go. If Spitzer clings on, he'll be a daily reminder to the world of one her most prominent supporters.

I am just so saddened to see that the hopes for really seriously needed reform of New York State's system of government seems to have been snuffed out for another decade. Why can't these guys keep their dicks in their pants?

Of course, it is very unusual for a John to get tangled up in these investigations. It looks like Spitzer is getting some very special treatment from the Bush Department of Justice. Stay tuned on that one.

HOOKER"gate" IS EXCELLENT NEWS!! FOR HILLARY!!!

Spitzer should be forced out now. Does anyone believe that he just started doing this in the past month. Of course not.

Those type of Prostitution rings are usually mob connected, so there is a good chance that he put himself in a position to be blackmailed into looking the other way on certain cases.

Throw the stupid jerk out now.

Blackmailed? He's already admitted guilt.

I meant that while he was doing it, and before he got caught he was exposing himself in a way that could have led to him being squeezed by the underworld. Read what I wrote please. CBS News is reporting that he has been doing this for sometime.

I did read what you wrote. I thought it was silly. Sorry!

It's premature for Clinton to make a statement at this point. Sorry, TPM, you're going to have to wait.

user-pic

Why is it too early?

Does a Governor being fingered in a prostitution ring sting breaking the law somehow have an automatic waiting period before someone can give a statement about him breaking the law?

Surely it was more than "fingered"?. That is not worth five grand plus travel expenses.

Can Hillery say something now. Read this from ABC News. CBS is reporting the same thing.

It Wasn't the Sex; Suspicious $$ Transfers Led to Spitzer
Officials Say Spitzer Is 'Client 9' in a Federal Complaint Against the Prostitution Ring
By BRIAN ROSS
March 10, 2008—

The federal investigation of a New York prostitution ring was triggered by Gov. Eliot Spitzer's suspicious money transfers, initially leading agents to believe Spitzer was hiding bribes, according to federal officials.

It was only months later that the IRS and the FBI determined that Spitzer wasn't hiding bribes but payments to a company called QAT, what prosecutors say is a prostitution operation operating under the name of the Emperors Club.

As recently as this past Valentine's Day, Feb. 13, Spitzer, who officials say is identified in a federal complaint as "Client 9," arranged for a prostitute "Kristen" to meet him in Washington, D.C.

The woman met Client 9 at the Mayflower Hotel, room 871, "for her tryst," according to the complaint. Client 9 also is alleged to have paid for the woman's train tickets, cab fare, mini bar and room service, travel time and hotel.

The suspicious financial activity was initially reported by a bank to the IRS which, under direction from the Justice Department, brought kin the FBI's Public Corruption Squad.

"We had no interest at all in the prostitution ring until the thing with Spitzer led us to learn about it," said one Justice Department official.

lol, the ad banner at the top this site says 'Hypocrisy'.

Here's Hill's comments. Basically, no comment

I'm no Clinton fan, but I don't see why she should take any stance on this. It's not going to have any impact on the campaign.

Ozz has a good point about special treatment. With this administration, if I were a Dem politician, I would be very careful of what I even said on the phone, let alone where I put my johnson.

Hey Hillary, what about your supporter, fundraiser and member of your financial committee who recently said Obama was only winning because he was a black man? She must resign, and you must denounce and reject!!

Geraldine Ferraro Must Resign Immediately!!
