Report: Girl "Safe And Asleep" In Hillary's 3 A.M. Ad Is Supporting...Obama!

It turns out that one of the kids who was "safe and asleep" in Hillary's controversial red phone ad would prefer that Barack Obama answer that 3 A.M. phone call in the White House.

A new report from King5, an NBC affiliate in Washington State, says that the first sleeping girl shown in the ad is a young local resident named Casey Knowles. King5 adds that the footage of her asleep is eight-year-old stock footage -- and that she turns voting age next month.

And according to the report, she is supporting Obama...

"I think it would be really wonderful if me and Barack Obama could get together and make a nice counter ad," Knowles said.

One imagines that this just might happen.

Casey would, however, prefer that Hillary, rather than John McCain, answer that 3 A.M. call. She tells King5.com that she'll vote for Hillary in the general should she win the nomination.

So, a 17 yr old is supporting obama and that is a news story!

I know. The press is soooooo mean to Hillary.

17 year old girls are the most enlightened members of our once great society.

Sour grapes.

So are you really that clueless or just a troll? Girl whose image was featured in Hillary commercial turns out to be a 17.9-year-old Obama supporter who's willing to help make an Obama campaign ad that could easily prove more valuable to her candidate of choice.

i couldn't agree more. this story has been running on cnn all day.
i'm thrilled that a 17 year old has an opinion and is interested enough to make an intelligent choice. the problem is that someone thinks we should care because of who she is!

here's more...
http://kayobi.blogspot.com/2008/03/red-phone-girl-makes-endorsement.html

That's why she's sleeping so peacefully

user-pic

This is too funny.

Hilarious,

This is great news for Hillary!!
Notice she lives in Wash, and has been campaigning for a few months. Another blowout?

Washington State, Si Se Puede!

user-pic

Washington already voted. In fact, the girl was a precinct captain. And there had been an obama blowout, 68/31, netting 27 delegates. Obama netted more delegates in WA then the four states that voted last Tuesday.

This is newsworthy? You must be joking.

c'mon. it's funny. relax.

LOL! Hillary has a problem with this stuff. First the woman in NH that made her cry voted for Obama and now this. I PRAY Obama uses this.
I guess it is a metaphor for the illusion that her campaign is, her 35 years of experience, crossing the CIC 'threshold', that she is 'back in the race', her vote for the Iraq war being for more diplomacy...

Fortunately for us Obama supporters I think she overplayed her hand on the negativity and things appear to be swinging back Obama's direction. A nice sized win today followed by MS on Tues should put things back on track.

user-pic

This is so hilarious. That's what happens when you do crappy commercials on the cheap, by using stock footage. Obama can use it as well for his commercial and you have no idea who is in the commercial. I am laughing my a** off. If I were obama, I would hire her right now to do a commercial. Run the stock footage and then have her do a little statement about how she would feel safer with obama due to his judgment, experience and integrity. Too funny.

funny, the famous "how do you do it" NH lady made Hillary teary voted for Obama, too.

Obama blowout in the great state of Wyoming:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#WY

Haha, kind of like how the woman who started the whole NH tear fiasco went on to vote for Obama.

Haha, seriously? Is that true? Do you have a link? I see a commercial.

I'm really just glad Sinbad is here. I wish I could see his crazy pants though. Democrats need to wear more crazy pants.

Wow, this is really important. EYEROLL.

Sinbad is not impressed. Sinbad says: let's talk about issues!

Issue #1:

WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT HOW FUNNY I WAS IN KOSOVO??!

This is a great little story, hehe. Here's the commercial: They should totally have the phone ringing at 3am and she picks it up and says, "It's for you" and then hands it to Obama. :)

BREAKING: HRC on CNN: "I'm REALLY good at sliming".

Honest, she said that word for word on CNN a few minutes ago. Can we make this a headline?

user-pic

Unfortunately, the recognition that Hillary is good at sliming is a lot like the "dog bites man" sort of story.

But, it's still probably excellent news for Hillary.

No, this isn't really important or newsworthy.

It's interesting though.

Senator Obama actually has two young daughters that he will do every thing in his power to protect, unlike Hillary who just pretends to protect pretend children, and pretends that she brought peace to Northern Ireland, and pretends that being married to a President is just like being the President, and pretends that pretending to care about Healthcare is the same as actually fixing Healthcare. Well you know the rest of it.....

Senator Obama actually has two young daughters that he will do every thing in his power to protect?
Yes, running for President and putting a huge media bulleye on your family is a sure remedy for protecting them. He must be spending a lot of quality time with his young daughters, I sure he sees tham at least once a month or at least as often as holds a substantive hearing since becoming chairman of a Senate subcommittee on Europe, Nato, and Afghanistan. Oh wait, you say that Obama admits that he has held NOT One hearing Chairing his Committee? Your kidding right? Obama cannot even run a subcommittee, much less be President.

C'mon...lighten up. Let TPM have their HuffPo moment.

Yeah but shrubbit--

Then you've got the black guy in the white girl's bedroom and thus, a Hillary commercial...

Haha. But she's an Obama adviser so they're in the Oval Office!

Yeah, I don't think that having an 18 year old girl in the Oval Office with Obama is quite the right image to project....

Mitch

Man it feels good to be an Obama supporter today. It's a beautiful day, and he's winning in a fabulous state like Wyoming. May the non- existant God bless Obama, Wyoming and his enlightened supporters.

user-pic

According to CNN's results tracker, Mitt Romney also won today. LOL.

MITTMENTUM!

Wait a minute. You guys thought that was a real family? Not actors? I'm beginning to understand the Obama phenomenom.

Sinbad wants to know what you have against actors! Sinbad is an actor and he solved the refugee crisis in Kosovo with Hillary!!

Apologize to actors now, Billy Glad!

hahahaha... that is the irony!

Yes Billy, we all thought it was a real family and we all think this is terribly newsworthy and not simply some lightly ironic bit of fluff that's perfect for a Saturday afternoon.

By the way, does your ponderousness create its own gravitational field? Just wonderin.

THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS!! FOR HILLARY!!!

God, it just never gets old!

So true.

In the parlance of the Clinton era, Idiotic is da bomb!

Hmmmm, who was it that said something about wisdom and praise coming out of the mouths of babes and children ? 8>)
GOBAMA O8

This is it, huh? I am not sure this even equates even closely to news.

yeah i can imagine obama doing the ad with this girl... the girl will say.. "I am 17 yrs old and i think obama will be a great commender-in-chief" .. DUH!

Fake Children for a Fake Democrat. Hillary has endorsed John McCain and Barry Goldwater. She left her Republican heart in Arizona, and it still beats fast for that state's Republican Senators. Hillary is the New Lieberman.

Ideally, his team will throw together an ad along the lines of "That was eight years ago. It's a different world, and today I am an active supporter of Barack Obama."

Something a little bit funny, maybe. And if her entire family is in support of Obama, all the better.

Obviously, we all know that stuff's stock footage. And I know it's not a policy point or anything substantial, but in a week when Hillary Clinton's claiming that a tea break with Irish ladies counts as foreign policy experience -- pfft. In that case, I can claim I trump her foreign experience.

Obama shouldn't spend too much time on this, but if his campaign wanted to put the ad together and then put it on his site, I suspect it would go viral.

Obama ad: Have a Hillery look alike, dressed in the same attire. Have one of the little girls wake up, and start screaming: Daddy, what is that creepy looking woman doing in our house.

user-pic

Ewwwwww!!!! She's a monster.

Oops, I appologize, that was off the record by the way.

user-pic

No you're not.

Oh, c'mon now...let TPM have their HuffPo moment.

one more time, third is always funniest

That wasn't on purpose...

There is a phrase that is often overused, but in this case it fits. This story about the little girl in the 3 AM ad who grew to become an Obama supporter is what I call "poetic justice."

It is a true omen of what is to come. Obama will defeat Hillary Clinton and become the nominee, and go on to become Commander in Chief.

Sinbad, when did you cross the hilarious threshold?

Have you or have you not seen "First Kid"?

I'd have to say that my performance in that film speaks for itself.

I actually think the most flippable part of this is the color of the initial getty stock footage and the "fear mongering filter" the clinton campaign ran it through. In itself, not that big of a deal but another bit of juice to add to the ever growing smoothie that is "she'll do anything to win".

user-pic

Absolutely!
The original tape is Quaker Oats or Sudafed Kids stock, and they threw some day-for-night filter on it and PRESTO-THE WORLD IS ENDING AT 3AM!

I'm sure the best part is Getty's profit margin. They've been selling that clip for 8 FREAKIN' YEARS! How much do you think they gouged HRC's media budget for a beta-cam clip they paid $100 for years ago?

Well the news in itself is not big deal. But if this young Lady is willing she could make an add saying something like: "The girl in the 3 am add was me when I was 8 yr. old. At that time I needed my mom to protect me. Well I've grown up since then, and bow I know that a vision good judgment and hope are more important than fear. That is why I support Barack Obama". How about that?

If you wish to be even slightly persuasive, you would do well to desist with the suggestion that we're stupid.

No, we're well aware that, shockingly enough, the family in the commercial were actually actors. We understood this, at least those of us that didn't drop dead from the shock, from the the get-go.

What's funny about this is that it reminds us that there's a difference between appearances and realities, and in this case the irony is as thick as tank armor.

This is the best response Obama could make -- the young woman in the ad pointing out the difference between appearances and reality, e.g., that she was a child actor in the footage but in reality she is now grown and active in working to make her own world safer and she supports Senator Obama...

The original ad was bullshit posturing, and this lucky break for Obama deflates any authenticity anyone may have credited to it by highlighting the artifice involved.

user-pic

So-called Sinbad,

Contrary to your racist assumptions, the real Sinbad happens to be another intelligent and articulate African-American. Skip the faux vernacular; we DO speak Standard American English.

And, as easy as it is to hate on Sinbad for a series of very bad movies and some very bad fashion sense, his stand up always was hilarious.

Sinbad asks you if you've ever solved a refugee crisis in Kosovo.

No?

Then Sinbad does not need to hear from you.

Sinbad needs some LOVE!

user-pic

This is not that remarkable in and of itself, but Obama could, if he wanted to, spin it into a greater narrative about his ability to bring new people into the process and contrast that with Hillary scare tactics. The money shot line can be something along the lines of "It is no longer 3 a.m. Your children are no longer asleep. The long dark night has passed, the sun has risen, and your children are awake, active, and engaged in the political process like they never have been before."

I've been missing the Obama rhetorical judo recently. Hillary's been throwing some wild punches, way overextending herself and just begging for Obama use her own momentum to put her on the mat.

user-pic

Of course the footage is 8 years old; everything about Hillary comes from the 1990s!

user-pic

Perfect!

No, but I have seen Jingle All the Way. Can a threshold be destroyed? It's hard to tell what the rules are when the metaphor is so nonsensical in the first place.

Oh, also Houseguest. Houseguest.

This is news? You're kidding, right? At best, this is a snarky post on Wonkette.

That was 5 January, d00d.

user-pic

This makes front page news on TPM?

As I've said many a time, you people are abject hacks.

Yeah this is news! Another waste of time. Nothing like discussing the real issues.

The comments of a 17 year old in an ad that impacted the election in Texas isn't relevant? Yet, a nonsensical appearance by HRC on The Daily Show and SNL is worth a 3-day news cycle?

I guess it depends on what "is" is..eh?

True enough. Hillary's fearmongering ad played very well in TX.

There's also the matter of whether the Obama campaign takes up Casey on her offer to make an ad on their behalf. It could be campaign gold!

I guess she wasn't happy enough with her previous 15 minutes of fame.

Garbage is garbage unless it's recycled. Hillary's beliefs and doings are a lot more significant than a 17 year old actress.

Unless it's recycled garbage is garbage. Hillary's doings and beliefs are a lot more significant than a 17 year old actress. But hey maybe she'll grow up and become a candidate for president someday.

Unlike garbage, though, your posts are just as useless after being recycled three times as they are the first time.

Oh no!

That's it. When can all just stay home now and stop bloggin. This settles the whole argument. This 17 year old really "identifies" with Obama.

Race is over.
Too bad Hillary.

I'll thank you to keep your sarcasm to yourself, Sir or Madam!

Say what you want about this gifted young woman, but the God-given, once-in-a-generation acting talent she put on display in that segment entitles her to a voice that must be heard by her admiring public.

Celebrities should not be denied their right to express their own political opinions, and fame combined with genius has its own special, designated role to play in our public life.

Well, at least this 17 year old girl understands what irony is. The story is interesting because it is ironic. I think an ad featuring her could potentially be good, though the script would have to be done quite carefully.

The point of the original ad was merely to induce a sort of false fear with stock footage of a generic little girl, dark lighting, scary music, a worried looking adult purporting to be the child's mom, etc. The point of an ad would be to demonstrate the phoniness of it all: not just the little girl, but the spooky music, etc. I think doing a similar ad that strips away those elements one at a time: then shows the reality a new voter and (ideally) her family supporting Barack Obama, could be quite effective. The message: Choose Hope, Not Fear.

Drat my little pretties!

I pass around a photo of him dressed in Muslim gear and what does he do that very night? He puts on a black cowboy hat and looks great!

http://matthewyglesias.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/02/photoblog.php

Now I try to fear-monger the masses with a little blond cherub and what happens? The little trollop is an Obama supporter!

Drat! Drat! Drat!
Where are my flying monkeys!
I'll get you yet my little pretty!

The Daily Show's wild witch laughter here...

Wyoming, you're well on your way to not counting. Congrats.

user-pic

I love that pic. Where did you find it?

The power of google, sir. I did a search of her photos and that gem popped up. I'll keep replacing it with others (trust me, there are many others).

user-pic

There cannot be a better one than that. It is priceless. I was going to use the seig heil pic myself, but I kinda like riding the nuke to oblivion which is the clintons' campaign in a nutshell.

Just saw the story on CNN. very funny stuff. I do think that they should do an ad together.

The day after he lost Samantha, Obama found Casey. Not bad I must say.

I am very happy that the "3 A.M." girl is coming out for Obama. Why did they not break this story during the week when everyone is paying close attention to the news versus the weekend? It's my understanding that those who are not heavily involved with Politics only get their news from nightly news stations.

Anyways, here is a report out on Billary and how she really did not have any invlovement in Ireland during Bill's time in Office.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/03/08/wuspols108.xml

Lost in all of this (though the irony IS delicious) is that Hilary had 2 chances to answer important phone calls.

In the 90s, the middle class placed a desperate call for help with health care, and she dropped the call.

In October 2002 she again answered the phone, and was asked "Do we go to war?" Her answer then was to join McSame and Bush in the most ill-advised, misguided adventure, which has cost countless Iraqi lives, many of our brave soldiers lives, and trillions of our treasure.

So the question isn't who answers that call at 3 AM, the question is, why would we ever let her near that telephone again knowing how she handles such calls?

But just saying.

A 17 year girl should decide who answer the phone? Give me a break. Another media bias try to attack Hillary.

Well, that convinces me!!! A 17 year old actress supports Obama? Slap my ass and call me Sally, I am now an Obamabot!!!!

What you Hillary folks on this post don't seem to get is that no one is arguing that this story is newsworthy because of the young woman's preference for Obama in and of itself. It is getting press because it's funny. Or don't you get irony?

I take it back - I'm waiting for the Lindsay Lohan endorsement before I switch to Obama.

user-pic

Faux Sinbad,

You're still a racist troll.

user-pic

Who cares?

Before anyone takes the easy route and dismisses someone's opinion simply because you feel they are too young, consider this 15 year old girl.

This is a cute story, but the reality is that 42% of voters want McCain answering that call. Neither Clinton nor Obama comes close.

What kind of parents sell pictures of their young daughter in bed? No wonder she turned out the way she did. You'll never see any pictures of Chelsey in bed. That's the difference between raising a child correctly, and raising an Obamaton.

That's-because-Chlesea-wasn't-a-child-MODEL.
If pictures of children in bed are bad, isn't Hillary a predator for USING said picture???

Logic not your strong suit?

Newsworthy? Only if by 'newsworthy' you mean 'hilarious'!

I love this story. Casey Knowles for VP. Make the counter-ad Obama, make the counter-ad?

This is very much a news story. What should be getting a lot more attention and focus though is Hillary's bare-faced lies about her fictional accomplishments in Northern Ireland and Kosovo.

People....this young lady is an ACTRESS who was paid to do the ad. What difference does it make what her politics are?

By the way, there is a wonderful profile of Obama in the NY Times that everyone should read...regarding Obama's behavior so far in the Senate. It is an eyeopener.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/09/us/politics/09obama.html?pagewanted=3&_r=1&hp&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1205040114-sr9rgqkP0PquPh2tqaPUqQ

This young lady did not sign on to do HRC's ad, she's an actress who did an ad 8 years ago for an entirely different product. And if you don't see how this absolutely delicious bit of irony couldn't be used in a counter-ad, then you're just not trying very hard.

Start a "3am Answer Line"!

My favorite:

"Hello, your president speaking."
"Hi, Hill, can I speak to Bill?"

Hilzoy has a nice little examination of HRC's recent claims about her foreign policy experience and the Rwandan genocide. She is completely full of sh**. http://obsidianwings.blogs.com/obsidian_wings/2008/03/hilary-clinton.html

user-pic

THIS JUST IN:
Beyonce doesn't really use L'Oreal. When asked why, she said, "I'm worth way more than that!"

It would be interesting to make an ad with her & Obama, though it's hard to make it compelling (rather than just a gotcha ad). Maybe something like this... Show her standing on one side of the screen & she starts talking, "When I was younger, I was made to support a politician (don't name your opponent), [show stock footage used by HRC] but now that I'm an adult, I can make my own choice. And I think that Barack Obama is the best choice for President." Obama walks in to fill the space where the footage had run to seal the deal...

I think when you're posting a quote from a video directly below the video block, it would be best to get the quote right.

She doesn't say "I think it would be really wonderful . . ."

She says, "I think it would be wonderful . . ."

Mistakes in reporting - particularly painfully obvious mistakes like this - raise questions in reader's minds about your commitment to accuracy.

Is it possible that the cameraman, the producer,or the director may be a McCain supporter? I need to know. Or is this "all you want to know about Obama?"

In response to the 3 A.M. red phone add I keep thinking about a particular issue that seems relevant but I haven't heard anyone bring it up. I don't want to sound sexist but I think it is definately a consideration worth looking into. It's 3 A.M. the red phone is ringing, where is President Hillary Clinton? Lying on the bed with hot flashes. There I said it don't get pissed. I'm just saying I know when my mom was going through menopause I would definately no want her any where near a red button or phone for that matter.
