Poll: Mucky Alaska Rep. Don Young Trailing Dem Candidate
Rep. Don Young (R-AK), a TPMmuckraker all-star, may be in serious danger of defeat in the general election, even though Alaska hasn't voted to send a Democrat to either house of Congress since 1974.
The internal poll commssioned by Jake Metcalfe, one of the two Democratic candidates, finds Young trailing Metcalfe 45%-37%, and trailing a generic Democrat 41%-34%. Young also faces a primary challenge from Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell.
The poll was conducted from March 10-12 by Hays Research, a non-partisan Alaska pollster.

I agree. This is OUTSTANDING news for Democrats coming up this fall. With the right candidate at the top of the ticket, this could be a HUGE year for Democrats in the House. The RNCC is basically broke as it is, and losing longstanding House seats in heavily Republican areas. They can't defend everything that coming at them in November.
Even Young stepping down leaves them with the problem of finding a solid replacement and raising money in time for the election.

Young will never step down, he feels wholly entitled. But, I'm not so sure a Dem will gain any real traction. Sean Parnell, a repub and current lt. gov in AK announced AT the state repub convention his intent to challenge Young in the next election, with Sarah Palin's (very popular 1st woman governor of Alaska) blessing. The old republican guard in Alaska is being dismantled by the new republican guard, no democrats needed.
