McCain Has Skipped Majority Of Senate Votes Since He Started Running
The New York Times notes this morning that John McCain has missed more than half the votes in the Senate since January 2007, between campaigning and touring the world in order to look presidential — a statistic that could potentially be exploited against his claims of being the most qualified leader.
McCain's 56% absentee numbers aren't as bad as John Kerry, who missed 72% of votes for the 2003-2004 cycle, but they are definitely the worst for the three remaining presidential candidates — Barack Obama has missed 37% of votes, and Hillary Clinton 27%.

I don't find this terribly surprising. This is it for McCain. This is his last chance for the Presidency and he put everything into it.
I also don't think people will care about this come November.

Let me guess, is he going to sit them down and demand they "Stop the bullshit"?

Perhaps he will ask John Kerry to be his running mate?

BeyondKen,
Lieberman has that slot locked up.
And on McCain's voting record, it's never been very good. Mavericks don't waste time doing the job they are paid for.

I can't get terribly excited about this absenteeism for two reasons. 1) It's important for Presidential candidates to actually make contact with voters. It is a vital part of democracy. I don't want people voting based on what CNN says or how many yard signs they see. 2) A non-vote is a NO vote. Since in almost all cases the Republicans have been on the "anti" side of votes this year, to actually fly back to DC to cast a NO is merely symbolic and a huge waste of fuel.
