Jeremiah Wright Steps Down From Obama Campaign

In the response to the controversies surrounding recently-aired videos of his sermons, Barack Obama's former pastor Jeremiah Wright has resigned his from honorary membership on the campaign's African American Religious Leadership Committee. NBC News says it's unclear whether Wright left of his own initiative, or if he was asked to leave.

Earlier today, Obama put up a long blog post explicitly condemning "any statement that disparages our great country" that Wright has made, while simultaneously standing by the man himself and his church — a delicate balancing act, to say the least, and probably not one that Obama was happy to find himself having to perform.

And hopefully this will be the end of this sad story. There's a reason why the founding fathers put in the separation of church and state.

Don't count on this to be the end of the story. Obama's blunder was to not distance himself from this loose cannon a long time ago. I'm a supporter but am terribly afraid this latest eruption might make his chances even slimmer of ultimately defeating Billary and the Clinton machine...

On the bright side, people know he's Christian.

Don't count on the "he's a Muslim" problem to go away. It was only politically convenient to acknowlege him as a Christian. Now you can expect the rhetoric to be "He must be a Mulsim because he repudiated a Christian leader".

Hey Bush, when Clinton is gone, and you're losing to McStain, it won't work to blame Clinton anymore. When will you stop practicing the politics of old and blaming Clinton for the smell of your shit and start practicing what Obama preaches.

Obama has known his hate-mongering pastor for 20 years. To say that he wasn't aware that Wright had this type of hate in him just isn't plausible. If he were a witness in a jury and gave the sort of pathetic answers he gave this evening while making the rounds on cable tv, no one on the jury with an IQ over 80 would believe it.

The awful truth is that he's supported the Church with his money, and has advocated their views by maintaining his loyalty and membership over the years. This man has married he and his wife and baptized their children. Obama himself has said he's a mentor, spiritual adviser and a highly influential person in his life.

It's clear that Obama lacks the judgement to become Commander-In-Chief. But look on the bright side obama bots; recent history has clearly demonstrated that good judgment isn't a necessity to becoming President.

Bah!

Too much melodrama in your protestations. This is a major nonissue. this won't and shouldn't hurt Obama in the slightest.

user-pic

Obama had such a fantastic "white" CV, with private high school in Hawaii then Columbia and Harvard, he was just trying to get a little "black" cred by attending Wright's church.

Listen to Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s sermons. Listen beyond the words. Try to hear the message. He is advocating radical humanism.

Perfect. We need to get away from this religion-political entanglement promulgated by the right wing and then spread to the liberal end of the spectrum.

I agree.

Yea, I'm sure this will be the last we'll hear about this. The Republicans would never bring this up again after Obama explicitly condemned the statements. They wouldn't sink that low. By next week they will have forgotten all about it, just like they've forgotten how his wife said she wasn't proud of America, how he doesn't wear the flag on his lapel, or put his hand over his heart during the national anthem. It would really be a stretch for the Republicans to try and make the case that Obama is some radical left-wing America hating liberal with ties to Louis Farrakahn. Obama's experience, his national reputation and his position on all the issues is too well established for them to try and re-define him like that. /sarcasm>

A truly masterful stroke. He has the aptitude of a most seasoned politician.

I still think this is a shame. I hope that they remain on good terms.

had to be done though, and iam sure wright knows that. Obama is doing what some of the posters here were hoping he would do which is to link the past of what caused Wright to have those views and to say we need to move on in the country pass them. Or something like that.

"A truly masterful stroke. He has the aptitude of a most seasoned politician."

Masterful? Hardly. Good? Sure.

Well now I'm confused. How can we spend all of this energy talking about Obama's pastor if Obama is a Muslim? Hmmm... Have you heard the one about the closet Muslim with the crazy pastor? What do you mean we can't have it both ways? Dang!

Wright may not be a Muslim but he's awfully tight with them. Farrakhan was his man of the year.

Obama would be better off trying to defend Wright. Too late to distance himself after twenty years.

"a delicate balancing act"?? Eric, it's called forgiveness, kinda a Christian thing...

Who asked for forgiveness? Or does it come without asking?

"I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit," - Barrack Obama

I guess that doesn't apply to Hillary Clinton?????? Why would he wait till now to discredit this pastor? How recently has he attended one of his services? It must not have been all that long ago if his kids were baptised by this man!

"You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when He hates all the same people that you do!"

When has Obama said one word to degrade HRC? I'd say it was pretty much the other way around.

Oh- this is that Rovian framing thing again, right? Sorry, didn't mean to get between you and a baseless smear.

When has Obama said one word to degrade HRC?

Um, Obama's pastor has uttered quite a few words to degrade Sen. Clinton. The problem with Wright's words is that Clinton has no more control over what her race is than Obama has.

I've watched all three of the news channels coverage of the story and I think CNN has done the most substantive job. I thinK Obama has a teachable moment here. Not just for Rev. Wright or African-Americans. But America.

America has a race issue. Has had one from its inception. And that problem has been exacerbated over time because of the unwillingess to engage in the hard discussion of not only the realities of our history, but the path for our future. No one group bears the blame. No group has clean hands. Until folks recognize that and start TALKING and LISTENING, this thing is only going to get worse.

There's an opportunity here. I just hope folks have an open enough mind to listen.

Yes, it was a teachable moment. Publicus, and the lesson was learned.

Not only must African Americans not dare speak to this country's continuing racism, but we must not dare to speak a simple truth (such as: Barack Obama knows what it is to be a young black man raised by a single mom, having been one, and Hillary Clinton does not).

Got it.

We get this to: this isn't the big bad Republicans making this demand. These are supporters of another candidate in the Democratic Party.. We get, too, that white people can say and do whatever they damned well please. White skin privileges has it's privileges.

I'll be changing my party registration. Democrats should no longer expect me to speak in November if they refuse to listen during the rest of the year.

I would love to hear what Cornell West thinks about all this. Or, Glenn Loury, for that matter.

Amazing. The only way to be "legitimately" called a racist in this country is to make white people uncomfortable. Maybe Michelle Obama will want to rethink that recently-found pride in "her country"... And the chutzpa to believe that it was ever even her country to begin with (I know, sister-girl: I was briefly operating under the same delusions myself. The white folks have set me straight).

Now it turns out that Rezko had raised much more money and played a bigger role than originally thought:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/chi-obama-rezkomar15,0,2968927.story

What is going on here?

Who is floating these stories?

Read the article, the only thing I think that's different is they put a final dollar amount on ALL of the money raised through fundraising. I think previously they've only referenced money that they identified as coming from Rezko or being DIRECTED by him.

But to answer your question, the campaign decided to get out ALL of it's remaining dirt in one news cycle. Smart move and given the nature of the information, it demonstrates (yet again) that there's nothing there.

People like you concern troll. People like you.

There is nothing new in this article, but don't let that stop you.

user-pic

Right, except that the record shows Obama never really did Rezko any real favors either. SO, which candidate would you prefer? The guy who has lobbyists run their businesses on the 'Straight-Talk Express", or maybe the woman who's got more money and lobbyist issues than any other candidate in the campaign?

The Rezko horse is dead already.... you can stop kicking now.
Obama met with reporters for 90+ minutes for Q&A on this single issue the other day. The final word on Rezko:
http://tinyurl.com/2gncfb

Closing paragraph:
"Less protection, less control, would have meant less hassle for his campaign. That said, Barack Obama now has spoken about his ties to Tony Rezko in uncommon detail. That's a standard for candor by which other presidential candidates facing serious inquiries now can be judged."

When is the carnage going to end? At this rate we will all have been denounced and rejected for any of our free speech thoughts by the time November rolls around.

And be sure to blame Clinton in the fall for Obama's collapse. All Obama supporters do is whine and bellyache and blame Clinton. It won't wash in November ... and McStain won't just quit because Obama supporters want him to. Better learn to fight ... dirty if necessary.

This will never be over. Even if Obama is the nominee, 527s will play the REV's Greatest Hits just before the general election.

Who is really that thick to believe the left's hero, Senator Obama, has never heard the REV's going off on whites, the USA, Hillary, Bill, etc. I do not.

Fact checking is coming and if the left's hero, Senator Obama (D-IL) running for the POTUS is found to have know of the REV's statements, regular delegates will be running to Hillary.

Boomers and older vote McCain if Obama is on the ticket. An empty suit Senator Obama, now a trainwreck, finis.

I think you mean when Obama is the nominee. Speaker Pelosi put it in the fridge this evening.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/03/pelosis-delegat.html

Key quote: "'If the votes of the superdelegates overturn what's happened in the elections,' said Pelosi, 'it would be harmful to the Democratic Party'...'But what if one candidate has won the popular vote and the other candidate has won the delegates?' asked Stephanopoulos. 'But it's a delegate race,' Pelosi replied. 'The way the system works is that the delegates choose the nominee.'"

What has the great Speaker done since she's been Speaker? Let's see, end funding for the war, no. Bringing home troops, no. Control government spending, no. Pick a Democratic Pelosi campaign promise other than minimum wage, she's done zip. Pelosi is worthless as the prior GOP Speaker. Anyway there can only be one queen bee. Hillary's in, Pelosi's out.

Hoyer hates her, would love to be speaker, is pro-Clinton, this will be a wonderful food fight.

Please. Now I know that you're a GOP plant.

Just today, Pelosi along with Hoyer, gave impassioned speeches in front of the House that led to the passage of a FISA bill that contains protections for privacy.

Don't hate Nancy because she's acting the leader and attempting to reimpose some order in what has become an increasingly distorted process.

Tell me oh wise one, was Pelosi and Hoyer's speech as impassioned as the ones the good Rev. Wright doles out on a routine basis?

Hoyer voted for the Iraqi War. He will never be Speaker.

Ah yes, ad hominem is a great logical foundation to stand on, just fantastically strong.

You are a very interesting character......a little devilish.....but still interesting.

The supers are going to back Steny "this needs to end soon" Hoyer over Pelosi, Biden, Richardson, Clyburn, and Van Hollen, all of whom have said supers will back the pledged leader? Um, yeah.

Well, enjoy being delusional while you can, I suppose. Funny how they say it's the Obama people who "drink the Koolaid," and yet you get posts like this, in full defiance of both mathematical and political reality.

But if you're a supporter of Sen. Clinton then you really don't want all those things that Speaker Pelosi has failed to accomplish, do you? You should be celebrating our continued presence in Iraq and a total failure to bring troops home. You do want the US to win the War on Terror, don't you?

By the way . . . we all know you're not a GOP plant. You're really Ben Smith. Y'can't work enough pro-Clinton material into news accounts over at Politico (but lorrrrd, how you try) so you've resorted to the cheapest coin of propaganda in the realm: blog trolling.

In closing . . . bear with me a moment as I say something I've wanted to say for a long time (though not to you in particular):

Will you please stop referring to her as HILLARY!? I mean she's not your flipping sister . . . is she?

This is an election. Show some decorum, man.

user-pic

Pelosi didn't get her way with Murtha - she's not going to get her way on the nominee either ... not to mention Obama is in free fall now.

In freefall?

Delusional again.

Sorry, but being up +160 pledged delegates and with significant leads in both daily trackers, as well as in every poll ever taken comparing the two Dems to McCain, is emphatically not a "freefall."

Sorry. It's over.

Too bad he's damaged goods now. The media should have vetted this candidate long ago. He has had associations with too many unscrupulous people in his past, and it's catching up to him at the point in time where it will damage the democratic party more than any one candidate.

He's single-handedly destroying the democratic party.

Again, idiotic wishful thinking. Nice try, tho'.

user-pic

I think you have the vapors! Better take to your bed for a while and try to think of something else!

Oh dear, you *have* completely lost your grip on reality, haven't you? Go look at the delegate count, the national polls, the state by state polls, the McC vs polls, then go curl up with a soft blanky for awhile.

user-pic

Shorter Pelosi: Superdelegates are part of the system only if they vote the way I want them to vote.

Don't you have a cave you need to get back too before dawn comes and turns you to stone or a bridge to lurk under or something?

Maybe they will run the types of ads you reference--but what they won't have is Senator Obama endorsing those views through word or deed. But Senator McCain has, in his attempts to bolster his conservative credentials, has embraced some rather repugnant individuals. So these same types of ads could be run against Senator McCain.

Guiilt by association is a fun game to play until it's played with you or your candidate of choice. So by all means, yuck it up. None of the candidates survive the GBA unscathed.

oh rly?

and if the Republicans play that, we Democrats will lay out our own 527s ready to go after McCain and his reverend ties Hagee, Falwell, and Parsley.

Don't think for a second that McCain is Mr. innocent.

I don't think either candidate rather go at each other on personal issues rather than focusing on issues concerning America.

Love watching the Clinton Cultists salivate, drool pouring from their sharpened fangs.

Here's something to dig those teeth into: some MSM coverage of your breathless crusade.

Uh-oh. Anderson Cooper has now turned to Hagee and the other loons supporting McCain. But, of course, he's not putting out their most inflammatory statements.

Whoops, spoke too soon. Looks like it just shows what a great political strategist Straight Talkin' Hero John McCain is.

Dammit, I turned away from AC after his Obama segment. I was about to miss out.

Ferraro is off the front page.
Mission Accomplished!
This will soon pass and resurface?
Yes, the deep inferno 527 folks, the routine!
More substance to Wright that current moment can
afford fro all parties.
Not have not seen the tapes, and don't care to, have seen such in the pass. Don't care for this style regardless of intensity, but these do often have great meaning beyond the presumed obvious. To paraphrase Justice Marshall a snake is a snake, whatever Wright maybe he is no snake, Justice Thomas or Ferraro, racist not relevant, stupid works! On Thomas, speechless!
RESULTS:
Clinton gets some much lack of attention.
Obama practice for the future!
BLOGS: Righting of the ship
MSM: Product for the weekend!
MONDAY: Sun shines, new day! NET GAIN: OBAMA!
POINT: DO NOT HOLD TOO LONG, IT IS TOXIC!
??? Ask Bill & Hill!

im sorry i cant believe he never heard these statements .....even if he wasnt in the church he just said on CNN that he only heard about most of the statements when he started his campaign....i hate to say this but there will be a huge number of reporter out there scrounging and snooping and will find out he is not being truthful....somebody had to tell him about these sermans even if he wasnt there ....i think he's in trouble .....these are unedited dvd's that his church sells,,,,undoctored ...and i heard there are hundreds of audio tapes around...he may be in big trouble

Ah, the power of your wishful thinking...

Ah, the power of a moron with a computer and internet access.

Aw, don't be so hard on yourself. But do try to contribute something next time.

Yes that is what Fox said, good for you for repeating.

Are you going to copy/paste this to every thread here today zumper?

user-pic

of course he is - good thing Keith gave him that chance to clear it all and and the bi%ch slapped him with an Rezko dessert. Wright = standing 8 count + Rezko = KO?

We'll see - the MSM has finally woken up.

Claiming he hadn't heard any of the bile coming from Wright is a lie - period.

Another Obama scandal brewing!

Obama buddy Tony "Rezko's role bigger than admitted." Barack Obama on Friday acknowledged that he had substantially underrepresented the cash raised for his earlier campaigns by indicted businessman Antoin “Tony” Rezko. Politico home page. Read all about it. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9049.html

Bad week for the empty suit.

Same question to you as to zumper.

Are you going to copy/paste this to every thread you can hit tonight?

Good for Obama. Tying up these loose ends and slowly taking the wind out of the sails of the Clinton smear machine and their parade of angry, embittered followers.

Soon there will be nothing left for them to feign indignation over. As Reverend Wright might say, "Hallelujah."

user-pic

Concern trolls are trolling... trolling.. trolling....trolling.. keep on trolling down the river...

Unless one of these videos Fraud news is running non-stop has Barack giving a shout out during one of these sermons, this story has a limited shelf life.

Not everyone can say they support any (political) thing their Pastor says so why would ANYONE hold Obama to a different standard WRIGHT or wrong?

http://OsiSpeaks.com

Cause he is Black, Americans are used to seeing white pastors say retarded things but they dont often see a black pastor say retarded things.

By the end of the election season we will call 2008 the "Denounce and Reject" election year.

I think that part of the push-back here needs to be the McCain embrace of Chuck Hagee and Rod Parsley. One wants to start a nuclear war with Iran, and has a theology that blames the holocaust on the Jews and condemns all Jews to hell for their rejection of Jesus. The other wants total war and destruction of Islam. At minimum McCain needs to walk the plank of "denounce and reject."

Here on his choice of Parsley as "spiritual advisor."

http://www.motherjones.com/washington_dispatch/2008/03/john-mccain-rod-parsley-spiritual-guide.html

Me no have to bunk with mr "DaRk CanDy bAr" if U bee-leave mine barking...

signed "Margarine Player"....

The pastor Wright thing has to be put into perspective. There is no perfect person, life, or candidate - so the American people have to choose.
Are you going to allow the man who preached at his church to turn you away from what is arguably the most magnificent candidate of this generation? I'm not. You have to pick your battles and issues, people - and I'm not going to let Wright dissuade me from the President I hope to have.

Obama '08!

Drop out Obama.

It is over.

It's not over, it just got interesting.

It will take over 5 weeks to find out if this means anything.

I'm sure you hope so.

Antonin Scalia. Bad at Justice. Worse at Math.

Distilling Fox & CNN:

So in 30 years of preaching, pastor Wright’s sermons have been distilled into a damning 30 second sound bites. He’s been found to be the evil.

Shorter Melanie Morgan, Ari Fleischer, Tony Blankly and Tony Perkins:--

Barack Obama should prove that he has nevah been there for any sermon we deem incendiary, which of course he cannot because he was there for every sermon ever delivered. We know! Barack Obama should renounce, reject, denounce, liquidate his pastor and then apologize to America for his pastor’s anger and for every possible angry black man in America and then should have a nice political death. That’s the only decent thing a black democrat is allowed to do. /sarcasm.

AC was the only one who did this with any substance. A commenter on Fox called this "high tech lynching." Can’t remember his name but he was introduced as a "democratic strategist." Never heard of him before. Also, I left the room for a bit and when I returned, KO was gone. Any ideas as to why?

He wasnt supposed to be on today, i think he said he was sick or something and he came in for the first part then had her fill in the rest.

We go as far as white peoples fear and no farther???
Its 2008 and I'll be 42, we need to speed this up OK?

Roman Catholic sex abuse cases
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clerical sexual deviancy allegations have been made against a variety of religious groups including but not exclusively Roman Catholic priests monks and nuns. An estimated 0.2% of Roman Catholic priests have been proven to be abusers.
Some incidents involved diocesan priests and members of the various Roman Catholic religious orders, with reports coming from the United States and Ireland and. Cases involved seminaries, schools, orphanages and other institutions (such as the Irish industrial schools) where children were in the care of clergy. Criticism of the Church and its leadership focused on the failure to act upon information, and often to move priests who had received complaints from church to church in order to protect them. Some allegations have led to successful prosecutions of the accused, as well as civil cases settling for millions of dollars.
The John Jay Report, commissioned by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, found accusations against 4,392 priests in the USA, equaling about 4% of all U.S. priests between 1950 and 2002. Figures supplied by the Catholic League promote the view that abuse statistics in the Catholic Church are similar to abuse in other institutions such as the preliminary estimate of education abuse statistics compiled by the U. S. Department of Education.

I’M CURIOUS. DID EVERY CATHOLIC LEAVE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AFTER HEARING THEIR PRIEST HAD ABUSED CHILDREN?

do you really not understand how this is not comparable? does someone really have to explain that to you?

*sigh*

i just can't be bothered.

Wait, I'm catholic and I need the difference explained to me. Please explain.

Zumper -- I know what you mean and I guess it's up to the ingenuity of some fair-minded but diligent reporters or opp research people to find out. On the other hand, there are two things that argue for Obama's account to be more or less accurate:

---- Wright was initially invited to give the invocation when Obama announced his candidacy in Springfield, about a year ago. This is the time period when Obama says (and has said before) that he first learned about the 9/11 statements. Wright was then un-invited - apparently the day before, beacuse of those statements. (There are two NYTimes articles and a Letter to the Editor from Wright in Mar and April of last year, and apparently Obama referenced a Rolling Stone article in his discussion with Wright) This is a pretty awkward sequence of events from someone who has shown himself to be a very smooth, controlled campaigner. If he knew that there was that much 'amunition' lying around, why would he ever have invited Wright in the first place? I remember reading about it at the time but (being a Biden supporter at the time) simply thought that Obama was going to be too unskilled if that's how he did things, or have too much baggage, and probably drop out soon. But he isn't unskilled, and he particularly doesn't easily do things that are going to shame someone, make them lose face - which happened there although apparently the hurt and distance was temporary.

That (the 9/11 comments) was the oldest offensive sermon featured in the recent videos and the one that Obama would most logically have known about - but who knows what one would 'normally' have done or known about at that particular time. I believe the other clips are from a sermon given in January of this year; clearly from its content it was after the campaign was well underway and it's easier to believe that that one was simply unknown to Obama.

----- The other thing, which I can't confirm because I don't have time (or interest) for listening to 12 long videos, was posted by someone on Huffington Post. They said that they had gotten all 12 sermons available from the church and that the 'greatest hits' tape which is now being shown everywhere drew from only 2 of the sermons and very selectively .. that, in fact, one of the apparently continuous statements was spliced together from two parts and, in other parts, contained pleas that one should "forgive your enemies above all" or something to that effect. The rest of the sermons, according to this person, were not objectionable.

So I guess the critical questions become (1) how 'typical' these snippest are of Wright's sermons? If typical, then it's hard to believe that Obama didn't hear something of the sort, no matter what he says. If they aren't typical, then it's (2) whether there is evidence that Obama was present for one of these sermons or another like them. He put his word on the line, so it's legit to try to find out.

I also think it's time to re-read The Audacity of Hope -- it will be interesting to see what he says against this newly-known background.

I'm one of those who believes that this could be huge .. and devastating. Oddly, it doesn't make me question Obama even though I am repulsed by the anger and (to my eyes) racism. But I've read his books and watched him as close as a political junkie can for over a year, and I simply trust my own eyes, ears, instincts and judgment. But depending on how this 'goes down' with the bulk of voters, then it may determine what happens with/to his candidacy.

If Obama was NOT aware that these statements had been made and had not seen those video clips, then he must have had a huge punch to the stomach! It's certainly good that he is dealing with this as quickly and as seriously as he is. There means there is a chance that he can make something good out of it. I think he made a good start on that tonight (saw 2 1/2 of the interviews). But it's going to be a high wire act for a couple of days, at least. We'll probably know a week from now if it's going to be surviveable.

If Obama was NOT aware that these statements had been made and had not seen those video clips, then he must have had a huge punch to the stomach!

I think he has felt it as a punch. Just my view. When AC asked him "how badly has this damaged you?" he just looked into the camera for a few seconds and the mask seemed to slip a bit for a nanosecond. He seemed upset and hurt. I think he very possibly did not know. That kind of divisiveness flies in the face of all that Obama's mother taught him.

And yet even more commentators, politicians, and ranting readers expose their own hypocrisy, racism and bigotry.

Obama wins another round!

Go Obama!

Well, what is done is done.
I hope this all will be over soon.

Well, I'm for one glad that this sorry mess is out in the open. If Obama survives this, the nomination is his.

Plus, it undermines one very important GOP (and Hillary) strategy: Reverend Wright is a pastor and not an Imam.

As much as it was painful watching Sean Hannity's smug face as he played and replayed Wright's sermon's, it kept pounding this salient point home: Obama's church is Christian.

This will be a net positive for Obama once the dust settles.

Survives this? With all due respect, I'm not understanding why everyone's freaking out about this.

Everyone's ratcheted up too tight...this will be meaningless by the middle of next week. As someone else noted, this is basically part of a planned dump -- the Friday after the last election in six weeks. It'll go the way of plagiarismgate and all the other "silly season"-gates we've seen thus far.

I agree. I think it goes away....until that debate in philly. I personally am not bothered by the reverend (yes, I'm white) and dont see it the same as if it was some white guy warning against integration.

Something intersting Tweety Matthews said this morning just as I was getting ready to run off to work. He said that this will give people who were wrestling with themselves about voting for Obama the permission to not vote for him. This will be used like a permission slip by them to not vote for him.

oh well.

Why has no one mentioned McCain and the radical MICHAEL SAVAGE. Go to his website, www.michaelsavage.com, and you see a PICTURE of McCain and this Bigot. If the media is going to do guilt by association, they should take a look at this. Go to media matters for some of this thugs comments.

http://mediamatters.org/issues_topics/tags/michael_savage

And I may be naive but Obama is not stupid enough to make a definitive statement like this if it is not true, since it is easily provable !

Believe this Obama supporters: This is just a taste of what is in store for Barak. His ties to Wright and the his church have been ongoing for twenty years. This church is a vicious hotbed of racism and anti-americanism that no presidential aspirant should have any affiliation with. There will be a lot more of this to come. Twenty years is a long time.

The Rezko relationship has been ongoing for all of Obama's political career. I'm from Chicago and their politics is about as corrupt as it gets. Whitewater was a myth and look what they did to Clinton's for most of his term. We don't know the half of Obama's involvement, but I smell shit.

I'd check your shoes. It would seem you brought the smell in with you.

Also, Sen. Obama's name is spelled "Barack."

And do not forget the comments made by Mrs. Barrack Obama. She said she had been Ashamed to be an American until the last 20 years, I presume under the guidance of Mr. Wright, their "right" leader and guider.

So Mrs. Obama was embarrassed to be an American. That is real nice. People from all over the world are risking life and limb to get into this fantastic country of opportunity and she was ashamed of it. She had the same opportunities that I had, and according to her collegiate records, she had a whole lot more, but still did not like America. And this woman wants to be sleeping in Our White House with us footing the Bill? In a country just has just learned to like.

There is a whole lot more that is going to come out about the both of them. The do some real smooching with some shady characters and Hate-mongers and I feel by Mrs. Obama's comments that she has a great deal of that hate inside her.

In my lifetime, I have seen blacks have the same opportunities that Hispanics and Orientals and whites and everyone else has. They all have free Education in this Blessed Land. They all have free books at libraries, free transportation on buses to get to the libraries and free Internet at the libraries to get out there and learn what is all over the world. They've had parents who knew there were those opportunities out there because everyone knew about it in 1952. They were all over the place. As a matter of fact, I have to drive farther to get to one than any minority does. I'm not rich. I'm poor. But I had the same opportunities and I get goose bumps every time I hear our National Anthem and I stand up for it even if I am in my own house. I am so Proud of our Great Nation and why the media does not explain who our Government is to other countries is beyond me. Here it is. Our Government is ourselves. If we want the government to give us money we have to pay the government first. We pay the government part of our earnings. The more you make the more you pay in. The people that don't make much pay less taxes into the government and should not be having more children than they can feed or educate. There is a process by which you can keep your children fed and educated. You go to study hard, apply yourself, wait to have sex until you can afford to feed, house and have enough money to send your children to college. You don't unzip you pants randomly and expect some other man to pay for your children's food and shelter and college education or any kind of education. That is not a man that does that. Dogs do that, not men.

I have gone to the library (free you know) and I have seen men on the computers tending to children, perhaps their mothers have to work and these men have their little ones hanging onto their legs while their daddys' surf for sex on Library computers. It is disgusting.

How can Mrs. Obama Now Be Made Happy by a Minister named Mr. Wright when no one else in this great land has made her happy? Tell that to all the Hispanics that work themselves harder than anyone I've ever seen. They are very hard workers and very courteous, and most the I've ever had the pleasure to do business with have been pleasant.

And I cannot understand how our dear Hispanics can vote for anyone that has any shade of gray in the Muslim corner. The Muslim Extremists will make you choose to be a Muslim or you lose your head. You cannot be a Christian or a Catholic or a Buddhist, and we've heard from the President of Iran, there are no Gays, so they will lose their heads also. Why would a Hispanic vote for a culture that wants to destroy Israel and America and kill us all? Is no one paying attention?

1. They marched on Washington. That accomplished nothing, but because they are educated from places like Harvard, Oxford, Yale, Ivy League colleges, they go to plan 2.

2. The recommend giving books and movies to public schools and public libraries to educate about Islam. The ask public schools to accommodate their children to provide places for them to worship at the school. And if they decline they are recommended to be persistent until they attain their goal. What happened to Church and State? They made all the rest of us get it out of Public Schools, but the Muslims are demanding it in our schools and they are getting it.

3. Buy up as much of the Media as you can such as ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, ESPN, all of them, therefore you will no longer be hearing anti Muslim stories. They just won't get played because the Muslim Stock Holders will have a say in that.

4. Have aides in all our Senators and House of Representatives offices and while they are on Capitol Hill, be sure and accommodate their religion and give them breaks to go worship Allah in the room provided for them in the Capitol.

5. Take over our Government and then start the fun. Destroy Israel, get rid of the Jews (which Christians will never allow them to do that. It is our duty to protect the Jews as Jesus who was teaching the Elders in the Temples at the age of Eleven Years Old was a Jew and is the Christian Savior. But that is what the Muslim Extremists want, no more Jews, no more Christians and to Rule the World.

But we are going to protect the Jews.

You seem to have a great deal of anger toward those who are not like you.

It's time to have your meds adjusted again.

user-pic

"And do not forget the comments made by Mrs. Barrack Obama."

I didn't, and you're putting words in her mouth. The video I saw of her never mentioned being "ashamed to be an American" nor did she ever say or imply that she was embarrassed to be an American

It is one thing to choose one's words poorly - as she did - it is another to tell boldface lies and smear someone's reputation, as you just did.

user-pic

Wow. Where to start?

I'll just pick one.

"In my lifetime, I have seen blacks have the same opportunities that Hispanics and Orientals and whites and everyone else has. I'm not rich."

Instead of seeing the world only from your perspective, try wearing someone else's shoes for a while.

Are YOU African American?

Did you ever get hosed down, beaten, and attacked by dogs in the 60's while marching for equal rights?

Ever been called a nigger? Been passed by Taxis or pulled over by the cops, passed over for jobs or promotions simply because of your skin color?

Do you, or have you ever, lived in the projects? Ever attend a school near the projects (ain't the same as in the wealthy neighborhoods - I guarantee).

You seem to be a religious person. Didn't Jesus tend to sympathize with the poor, the underdog, the oppressed? Yes, maybe someday we'll all be judged. Think about it.

Repigs and their media mouths are unwilling to have ANY conversations regarding McSame and his bigots. BTW, McSame's bigots are, IMHO, real bigots with hate. Wright is just really very angry. I see a difference between them. Fox and their masters and alies want to keep the focus on Obama. I'm very curious as to this eruption and its ferocity, 5 weeks before the PA primaries. These are my questions -- Why now? What's the agenda? What coalition is behind this? How weak minded/unwilling will Obama's coalition be with regards to sticking with him and see this through to NC and IN?

I'm sticking with him. I gave him some $$ today. I think he deserved it.

Ill be voting in NC, I found it a bit odd on there timing as well, it gives Obama a lot of time to recover before the next primary and even a lot of time before the next debate. Since ABC is the one who first came out with this iam starting to think a pro clinton media person first brought this up then the Fox group had to unleash there videos that they already had stocked up earlier then they wanted to. Iam not saying i think Clinton was behind this but it is odd that ABC and Fox (both Pro Hillary) are the ones that ramped this up.

you obama-ites just tickle me pink with your unfailing devotion to your candidate, like a love-sick school girl swooning over the golden-boy star quarterback.

well, here's a little real-politik script for how this is actually going to play itself out:

1. we're going to be hearing or seeing new jeremiah wright caustic and controversial audio tapes and video tapes coming out for at least the next 6 weeks. this is what happens when you are so proud of your sermons and ministry as to create audio and video tapes of each that you sell to the public.

2. your golden-boy sen. obama's next dilemma will be backing off of his many comments today that he only knew pastor wright to speak about "social ministry" that was in no way as caustic or controversial as today's tapes, and had he ever heard such, he'd of addressed pastor wright right then and there.

well i'm willing to bet $100 to 100 doughnuts that sen. obama was in not one but many such sermons. he's professed proudly to be a regular attendee at his church. he's proudly spoken of pastor wright's mentorship to him. he even gave pastor wright the gift of all gifts which is significant ink and credit in his best-selling book.

if you think that he hasn't been an attending parishoner at MANY of pastor wright's firestorm sermons...well, i've got a good parcel of chicago land i'd like to sell you as an addition to your lot.

3. $250,000 from rezko is going to creep up to $300,000, maybe $350,000, maybe more. more significantly, the assertion that no favors done will strain believability as it comes out that many a letter to many a city agency having authority over real estate and zoning and bids were made and that they, oddly enough, were all contacts of the sort that would be beneficial for mr. rezko if sen. obama's urgings were followed.

and we haven't even discussed the inevitable drip, drip, drip and/or bombshell new information that is very likely to come forth from the ongoing rezko trial.

keep your heads in the sand if you like, but when realist like myself and the millions of other hrc supporters tell you that your golden-boy hasn't been vetted and would get eviscerated in the general election by the rnc and their 527s, this is just the tippy top of the iceberg.

...and if any of you could actually pull yourself away from your obama kool-aid sippy cups long enough to read the nyt article on obama last weekend which detailed that, contrary to image, obama has been strategizing with a cadre of inside washington senate power brokers like tom daschle, john kerry and ted kennedy on how to fashion a "winning narrative" for his candidacy for president from literally his 1st day in the senate . karl rove and george w. would be proud of the thoughtful market-testing consciousness that the obama cabal showed in crafting the image of the "outside washington" senator with the "non-controversial voting record" who could be the "tabula rasa" for voters looking for a "fresh-faced candidate" to project their own desires and visions upon.

what could possibly be more "inside washington" than strategizing with a bunch of washington insiders about how to make the candidate-to-be look like he was "outside washington". the machiavellian irony is as beautiful as it is calculated.

to paraphrase jack (kevin bacon) in "a few good men":

"Jack: You got bullied into this election, obama-ites, by everybody. By Daschle. By Kerry. Sh*t, Kennedy practically dared you. You got bullied into this election by the memory of a dead president.

Kaffee: You're a lousy f*&king softball player, HRC!

Jack: Your boy's going down, obama-ites. I can't stop it anymore."

...and i have to admit, i think i'm going to kind of enjoy watching the slow demise.

sleep well.

What part of the math are you unable to comprehend? Sen. Obama has already won the nomination, as re-attested by Speaker Pelosi just this evening.

So, feel free to spin yourself into a fantastical delirium with regard to imaginary Rezko and Wright bombshells. Back here on Earth, the primary season is all over but the cryin'.

ok, kcm, if you say so.

in the meantime, i'll put a reminder in my outlook calendar to reach out to you after the convention to see where things actually ended up.

sleep well.

user-pic

You are wrong about BaraCk having already won the nomination. You and your Kool-Aid drinking buddies wish. Nobody has to vote for him. When all dirty laundry is aired, it will be clear as to how the delegates will vote, assuming they really want to win this election.

user-pic

Your screen name seems to reflect that which is lacking in your thought processes.

If there really were any "dirty laundry," the Clinton slime-team would have already tossed it out there.

Does this sway superdelegates? doubtful. Does it mean he'll lose NC, Oregon, Montana and South Dakota? doubtful. Does this even compare to the questions of integrity and honesty surrounding HRC's inventing of her whitehouse foreign policy experience, Schip heroism, supposed opposition to Nafta, her continued insistence that the Michigan vote was fair? Doubtful. She is as fake as they come and relies on an uninformed voter.
But this does expose our country's need to continue to confront racism. Obviously many blacks have different perceptions and views than whites and we need to do more to break down walls and try to see what other people see. Americans would do well to listen to Rev. Wright even if you dont agree with everything he says. I optimistically dont see this taking Obama down. Perhaps its an opportunity for people to see what others experience and why blacks might be more sympathetic to certain views than whites. I am white but happen to agree with certain comments I heard from Wright about America supporting Apartheid and some shady stuff with Cuba and Nicaragua (a topic for another board); those things are true and pointing them out is not anti-american.

right...can you pass me whatever it is that you're toking on at 2am in the morning, because the stuff is obviously damn good!

i live in nyc. i just watched a governor elected with 70% of the vote go down in 48 hours because of a sexscapade.

if you think, anti-america, anti-white, heavily racially-biased sermons from an acknowledge longtime confidant and mentor to your candidate, you are beyond delusional.

I listened to black radio in the District of Columbia to fight boredom a lot in the 80's and 90's. Indeed, it was never boring, and every day provided appalling hyperbole that you could easily call "Anti-Americanism." I remember an Independence Day show that the moderator cooed was about "the 4th of You Lie!" This "Goddamn America" stuff is/was routine excess in that vernacular, and the black community (at least then) was inured to it. If white America heard the daily drumbeat of abuse and bombast, they would really be shocked, but it was all very standard. Black churches were always close to the action, and the good Reverend is hardly alone.

If you want to "call" black politicians on having been around this, you'd net pretty much everybody, but it is a shame that Obama let this guy be a formal part of his campaign for so long. I wish, as so many do, that he'd had better foresight.

i'm african american, born in d.c. and lived there for 4 years as an adult, so i'm quite familiar with d.c. black radio and black church culture and the like.

and having lived in d.c., i'm also very familiar with politics.

nothing sinks a politician like hypocrisy.

one's campaign can't be lambasting a democratic historic female icon for responding to a question by stating that obama wouldn't be where he is today in the campaign if he weren't black, and then in the next breadth assert that a lifetime mentor and religious guide to sen. obama who regularly infuses his sunday sermons with racism, anti-americanism provides americans a "teaching moment" to learn about the "black american experience" and "examine black-white relations in the u.s."???

...well, if you think you and your candidate can sell that to anyone not in the 90%+ of african-americans reflexively support sen. obama right now, you need to come up here to nyc and head right to wall street, because it's clear that your salesmanship skills are noteworthy.

Really, Diddy? Your a native Washingtonian? A native Black Washingtonian?

LMAO!

Reality test, then: Describe a Proctor. And where one might go to find one.

Riiiiight.

Well, I'm due back on Planet Earth now. In the meantime, perhaps you should acquaint yourself with the math.

This got lost. Intended for the thread above. But, oh well. Events will make the case for me.

Perhaps you are the one who needs to acquaint themselves with reality/math/reading comprehension.

Pelosi isn't a queen issuing a proclamation; she's an Obama supporter stumping for her candidate.

Did Obama clinch the 2024 delegates needed when I wasn't looking? This comes down to the super delegates. Saying repeatedly that it's over won't make it so, sorry. Millions of people have yet to vote, and the super delegates will be watching.

And there's a lot of time between now and June 7th. I'm sure today did wonders for your confidence though!

Nah, my confidence didn't really need a boost. See, I can do math.

Also, I don't think Pelosi is a queen. But, she -- like Biden and Richardson, who've said exactly the same thing -- are the type of super-supers from which the remaining rest will take their cues. So, tell me, who's going to lead the superdelegate mutiny against the Speaker of the House?

It's over. Start wrapping your mind around it, for your own sake.

let me see if i can summarize your voluminous posts:

blah, blah, blah MATH, blah blah IT'S OVER.

dude, get a grip.

The Speaker of the House is acting like a total partisan hack by barely concealing her support of Obama. This is totally unethical. But she's a hack anyway, this we all knew; now she's trying to really damage her credibility.

There are many more contests to come. Should we cancel them, since according to you, it's over?

Super Delegates look at demographics of ALL the states after they've voted (PA will be a huge source of info for the SD). HRC could very well have a strong argument, should she continue to carry key demographics that will be essential to the GE.

But stay positive and hopeful! Keep telling yourself it's over, and that they aren't any other scandals to worry about. I’m sure you’re right. Really.

The Speaker is watching HRC drag this thing out to the bitter end with no hope of winning clean. HRCs running a Huckabee campaign, hoping the winning candidate gets hit by a meteor. The HRC supporters on this thread (and probably all over the net tonight) are peeing themselves hoping this is it. Like they've peed themselves over every other piece of possibly bad news in the past.

Hope is a powerful thing. Thank God Obama uses it for good.

The wingnut contingent on the left and right has been beating the Obama is an Anti-American meme for a long time. The same people could watch McSame maul a goat on Faux and think nothing of it. No, actually they would all shout, in unison, that McSame had more experience from Day 1.

outahere.

Jeremiah Wright Steps Down From Obama Campaign.

Unbelievable.

At this rate, by the time the convention gets here, neither side will have any surrogates or advisers left.

Thats right !!!!

This is a sad day for politics, democrats and race relations.

on msnbc, obama said he just learned "recently" of the pastor's inflammatory remarks. he also said that he only knew of wright preaching a social gospel and did not know of the remarks he is "repudiating" today.

well then, why did obama not want wright at his campaign announcement event in march 2007? that was an entire year ago.

the next part of this story will be evidence that obama very much knew of these remarks.

i think it's over.

obama = the poor man's john edwards. send him back to the men's warehouse - somebody needs the suit!

send him back to the warehouse?

as a clinton supporter, i certainly hope that is not the desire of anyone. obama is much too talented a person to just cast aside, his supporters will not give up, i respect them for that, but this is all radioactive politically, shows some dubious strategery, or lack thereof, and judgement.

this certainly has changed the commonly accepted wisdom of the recent weeks...suddenly the superdelegates have something serious to think about, how much more of rezko and wright can the party carry to the gd american people

that was the crushing blow, the gd america line, repeated over and over....play that in an ad in ohio, pennslyvania, florida or wyoming prior to the general election, watch the mccain inaugural balls and cry

I find all the outrage mongering regarding the "controversial" remarks by Jeremiah Wright to be misplaced. I mean, how is it that when Rod Parsley and John Hagee teach that Jesus is to be the instrument of the mass genocide of jews and muslims, that this is somehow okay, yet a preacher who says, "God DAMN America" for it's indifference to the poor and marginalized is not okay?

Is some of the rhetoric of Mr. Wright inflammatory, you bet. Is it "unamerican". Only insofar as a preacher has a higher responsibility to upholding his or her understanding of God rather than suborning that understanding to a nationalistic impulse.

I watched Tony Perkins of FRC fame on CNN's 360 and was dismayed by his ideological rather than biblical framing of Wright's remarks. For instance, he condemned Mr. Wright's sermons as being "unpatriotic", because a pastor isn't supposed to say things like, "God damn America". Oh really? According to his understanding of the Christian Bible, specifically the 13th chapter of Romans, Christians are commanded to pray for their country rather than condemn it. This is some of the most selective biblical quoting I've heard in ages. Without boring people, anyone who's read ANY of the Old Testament Biblical prophets knows that a majority of their writings expressly condemns Israel for perceived moral lapses, the worst of which is the neglect of the poor and marginalized. Wright is on surer biblical ground than right wing spin maven Tony Perkins, when he judges America harshly.

Politically, of course, this is damaging to Obama. I found his remarks that he wasn't "sitting in the pews" during these fiery sermons to be insufficient (buy what else can he say since he attended for twenty years). Perhaps he didn't attend, but now you will have Fox News interviewing every past and former member of Trinity Church to find the ONE person that recalls seeing Obama there during the sermons in question. This becomes a political ticking bomb. It's just a matter of time. It's difficult to reject and denounce your pastor of twenty years for controversial remarks, and then state you were unaware of them prior to running for President. I don't think his media appearances will have helped him in the long run. Frankly, I don't see what he could have said differently to be more effective. He's damned if he does and he's damned if he doesn't.

The republican playbook on Obama is in clear view now--Guilt by Association. First Rezko, then his controversial pastor, the next line of attack will be William Ayers. A theme emerges, which could be politically lethal to Obama, like Gore's serial exaggerating, or Kerry's flip flopping. I don't see how this theme can be quashed.

You quoted:
John Hagee teach that Jesus is to be the instrument of the mass genocide of jews and muslims, that this is somehow okay, yet a preacher who says, "God DAMN America" for it's indifference to the poor and marginalized is not okay?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You misheard and misinterpreted this.
WOW big time !!! This is completely nutty.

Jesus is not going to kill the Jews and the Muslims, it is the Muslims that are going to kill the Christians and the Jews. Jesus is the son of God. It is our duty as Christians to Protect the Jews with our lives. We will never allow the Jews to Perish.

The morning Percolator must have been a bit loud when you were listening to him. I don't like his yelling either, but in no way does Jesus kill the Jews. He comes back and you will be judged, each one of us and that determines our future.
Not Hagee.
Not Osama Bin Laden.
And Not the President of the United States or the Speaker of the House or the President of Iran of Afghanistan. Non of them will judge us in the end. They will all be judged by God and many Christians believe in the Trinity.

Obama made the talk talk rounds and LIED so badly, so transparently, that he blew any gain from Wright's departure.
And by lying Obama has insured that this will not go away.

It is simply not believable that Obama did not know of Wright's Racial Grievance Christianity during 20 years of Barak's claiming Wright as friend, mentor, and minister.
Obama is lying.

What is not easily explicable is why Obama appointed the man to a position in his campaign. I suspect that this is the influence of Michele who has voiced a much much stronger sense of black grievance than Barak.
Wright's inflammatory and hate filled speech certainly puts Michele's finally-proud-of-America comment in clear focus now doesn't it?

Obama has run his campaign promising change and the judgement to lead that change.
Wright puts the lie to all of that.
Rather than change Michele and Barak simply want to return us to the racially charged politics of the 60's and 70's.
Obama has shown horrendous judgement by aligning himself with Wright these past 20 years, bringing him into his campaign.
Horrendous and fatal judgement.
Of course we know why Barak did it. Wright was invaluable to Obama's political career. It is Wright who plays the nexus between Rezco and Obama. And of course there is Michele's history of crying racism and discrimination even as she attended Yale for god's sake.

Obama fans want to equate Hagee with Wright. But McCain does not belong to Hagee's church and did not give Hagee a role in his campaign. McCain has not given Hagee 20K in the last year.
Those are critical and substantive differences.

Perhaps now ObaFans will understand why some of us were so alarmed when Obama appeared with and promoted those gay baiting black ministers in SC. Perhaps now they will understand why we called Obama out on his church's teachings a year ago.
We were dismissed then by being called racists, Obama's one size fits all answer to any criticism and yet another pernicious influence of his pastor.

What happens next?
To begin, where was Obama the Sunday after 9-11?
Assuming they were in Chicago it is inconceivable to me that the Obama's did not attend their church that day. And if they did they heard Wright blame the US for the attacks on the Towers.
Evidence that Obama was there that Sunday or any Sunday when Wright spewed his filth will destroy Obama's campaign.
Only latte sipping white liberals and Obama's 90% of the black community will support him despite his lies.
If the Dems are foolish enough to nominate him anyway they will destroy their party and lose the elections badly.

For the good of the people, the party, and the nation Obama must withdraw from the race sooner rather than later.
He must withdraw before it is proven that he has lied about his knowledge of Wright's hate and fear mongering "Christianity".
More clearly than ever Obama has demonstrated that he has neither the temperament nor judgement to be President.

And all the Olbermann ass kissing in the world won't put Barak Hussein Obama back together again.

and if Obama wins this nomination and go on to the general election and beat McCain, what would you do then? Leave the country in protest?

good riddance

BHO will not win the GE.
If you believe that middle America will support him and his race baiting Christianity then you are simply delusional.
What will you say when evidence emerges, as it must, that Obama has lied about what he knew of Wright's theology?
What new excuse will Obama have for his opportunistic politics of racial grievance?
Remember please that Obama has hoisted himself on his own petard.
Obama has promised us a new politics of unity.
Obama has promised us his sound judgement.
Obama has proven what a fraud his promises are.

Good Christ JTHB. Are you a republican? I usually don't see such dualistic thinking in democrats.

I'm an Independent.
One need not be a retarded Republican to see that Obama is lying.
Obama's embrace of those gay hating black ministers in SC told us all we needed to know about Obama and the political uses of his "Christianity" but his fans were willing to pretend it never happened. Hey, forget the queers, right?
His lies about Wright will be proven and there is no way he will survive that.
And that is not my fault nor his critics' fault.

JTHB is worse than a Republican. He/she probably lives in a shack on some mountainside, with only his/her rifle to talk to.

JTHB,

You seem to have a hangup regarding lying. Pray tell, of all the presidential candidates, whom do you support? Hillary lies. McCain lies. Obama lies.

Are you simply not voting this year, until you can find a politician who isn't ethically challenged? If that's the standard, you unfortunately will never have an opportunity to exercise your constitutional right to vote.

As an Obama supporter, do I think he's lying respecting Mr. Wright. Like you, I do. But I never thought Obama was the Messiah, either. I still think his integrity is of a quality that exceeds everyone else in the race, and he will continue to have my support.

Thank you, I understand you and agree 99.9%.
But then Obama has promised us not to lie to us for political gain hasn't he?
He has built his campaign on that and once you remove that prop what is left?
What good are his ermpty promises of a new politics?
What good are his empty promises of unity?
He is just another conniving and grasping politician but with less experience in DC.
I'm not impressed by lack of experience in DC.

Do you know what's shocked me most this morning? After visiting my usual places- the news networks, newspapers and my favorite blogs- I've found most poeple aren't all that worried about it. I've seen the arguments that we've all had pastors say stupendously stupid things and we all manage to get over it. The only people having coronaries are HRC supporters. I'm sure they'll keep flogging this as much as they can because it's all they got, but it's actually a little sad for them....

user-pic

Exactly. It's been HUGE on the online shops, and video ran on FOX, CNN, etc. But NY Times, Wash. Post, etc. have barely covered it.

If this was front-page news, I'd be really worried. But I suspect a lot of this, in the end, is echo-chamber crap. We're listening to each other pass it around, but it broke out into the mainstream in parallel with his denunciations.

We'll see how this plays in the voters' minds when we get to the PA primary. But good luck with that optimism!

The most worrisome thing is that Obama wasn't astute enough to know that having Wright on his advisory board and an unbroken association with him wouldn't reap this kind of hysteria, which brings out the worst in many people, and sparks another version of the politics of fear. Why didn't he just disconnect himself from this church in January of last year, knowing that black nationalist conspiracy-laden rants just won't go over well with many voters? That shows great naivete. Also, this will re-ignite the conspiracy email smears from the other side -- crypto-black Muslim in disguise and so on.

Overall, this is depressing. Clinton remains manipulative and a very unattractive candidate. I hope Obama has the wherewithal, and sage advice, to move beyond this, but of all the things that have happened with him (Rezko is small potatoes, the Clintons have more of such baggage), this is the most damaging.

I still support him. I've lived on the south side of Chicago and Oakland and these sermons, while I find them self-indulgent masculinist rants, certainly won't end my support for him, but I am concerned. There needs to be ongoing pushback on this, one statement and media round isn't going to do it.

What bothers me is how much intense criticism gets directed toward the ordinary personhood of really great potential leaders. By the time we are done, we will have transformed the politics of hope into the politics of mutative hypervigilance! Isn't that special.
Listen, we aren't ever going to find anyone who doesn't suffer from the nuances of humanity - and I think it is pretty clear to me that Senators Clinton, Obama and McCain have made some stellar contributions to public office, and I really doubt that any of them are racist or sexist. But they do have very different visions for how to run the country, and we need to know more about what they are thinking.
I'm not undermining the vetting process.Raise the issue, get a response, and then move on to a consideration of the issues that really matter in this race - the war, the economy, the environment. I would love the MSM or the bloggers to push the candidates to post a comment at TPM or HuffingtonPost responding to the news of the day so that we could get a sense of how they are thinking or would respond to the actual moments that constitute our national and international priorities. It is our job as citizens to resist the call to peurile gossip and to instead demand from all the candidates a discourse about the facts on the ground that are impacting people's lives today. PS: Anyone who has never said, participated in or been close to a person who has said or done outrageous things (including regrettable sexual adventures)- particularly in a moment of anger or frustration -please make yourself known!

Obama's race baiting politics are not gossip.
His campaign and his supporters have had no problem slamming his opponents for their past and current associations.
But now that Obama is in the cross hairs it becomes "Can't we all just move along now?".
Well no we can't.
Obama is proving himself just another manipulative politician.
Fine.
But let's all be aware of the lipstick on our pig in a poke.

Give me an example of Obama race baiting. I don't accuse HRC of it (just her supporters). But you don't have a problem accusing Obama. Give me an example.

Obama is still politically "green". What doesn't kill him will make him stronger. If he survives this, and I suspect he will, then he will become a much more polished politician.

Beyond "why didn't he disconnect from Wright a year ago?" is a more important question:

Why did Barak Hussein Obama, a man to whom much has been given by our very imperfect America, ever EVER associate himself with the hate and stupidity spewing from Wright?

The sad truth is that Obama must share Wright's beliefs.
Fine.
But Americans will not elect such a man to lead us.
